Hydrogen isotopes, such as protium(H), deuterium(D), and tritium(T), are widely used in medical treatment, nuclear energy, national defense, and other fields. Under the background of the "double carbon" target with carbon peak and carbon neutralization, deuterium-tritium fusion energy is considered to be an important energy strategy in China. However, the relative abundance of deuterium and tritium in nature is extremely low, and it is of great significance to separate hydrogen isotopes economically and effectively. This paper presents the research on water hydrogen isotope separation technology. Firstly, the methods and the principles of hydrogen isotope separation in water are summarized. Then, two perspectives of separation methods were reviewed. From the perspective of engineering application, the electrolysis, distillation and chemical exchange method are focused. From the perspective of laboratory research and development, the membrane separation method and porous material adsorption method are focused. Finally, the separation factors and energy consumption of typical separation technologies are compared. Moreover, to provide a certain reference for the water hydrogen isotope separation technology, several future research directions are prospected.

Rapid urbanization has led to changes in the urban land surface thermal environment. However, there are still much unknown about the urban land surface thermal conditions in permafrost regions. Permafrost is a unique geological environment, changes in the urban land surface thermal environment may trigger geological disasters caused by permafrost degradation. This study utilized remote sensing data and geographic detectors to identify the dynamic changes in land surface temperature (LST) and land use/land cover (LU/LC) in Yakutsk, as well as the potential factors contributing to LST variations. Between 1992 and 2020, the built-up area in Yakutsk increased by 36%, and the annual average LST in Yakutsk has risen by 6.67 °C, accompanied by an expansion of high-temperature areas. Despite ongoing greening efforts, rapid urbanization poses a threat to these green spaces. Changes in the normalized difference built-up index (NDBI) and land use transfer (LDT) were identified as the primary drivers of urban LST changes. By integrating geographic detector technology and artificial neural network models, we optimized the selection of input factors in the prediction model and used it to explore the future changes in LST in Yakutsk. The average LST in Yakutsk is expected to reach 23.4 °C and 25.1 °C in 2030 and 2040, respectively, with a further increase in high-temperature areas. This study provides a reference for ecological, hydrological, and geological assessments of cities in permafrost regions.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the diagnostic values of serum platelet count (PC), mean platelet volume ratio (MPV), platelet count to mean platelet volume ratio (PVR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), platelet to neutrophil ratio (PNR), PC/Albumin-globulin ratio (PC/AGR), and PC/C-reactive protein (PC/ CRP) in the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Methods The medical records were retrospectively analyzed of the 158 patients who had undergone hip or knee revisions from January 2018 to May 2022. Of them, 79 cases were diagnosed with PJI and 79 with aseptic loosening (AL). PJI was defined using the Musculoskeletal Infection Society criteria. The plasma levels of CRP, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), PC, MPV, PVR, PLR, PNR, PC/AGR, and PC/CRP in the 2 groups were recorded and analyzed. In addition, tests were performed according to different joint types. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to calculate the sensitivity and specificity of each indicator. The diagnostic value for each indicator was calculated according to the area under the curve (AUC). Abstract Background Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetic disorder involving multiple systems, with an incidence of about 1/10000–25000. Ovarian torsion (OT) is not commonly found in children. Ovarian cyst acts as one of the primary factors resulting in OT. While ovarian cyst torsion with Prader-Willi Syndrome has not been reported before. Case presentation A 12-years old female was admitted to Emergency Department of our hospital with the chief complaint of abdominal pain. The outcomes of physical examination revealed the height of 150 cm, weight of 103 kg, BMI of 45.77 kg/m2. The patient manifested the special facial features, an obese body, with the abdomen distended into a spherical shape. The fat accumulation in the abdomen significantly embarrassed the palpation. The abdominal CT scan indicated a huge cystic mass in the abdominal cavity, sized about 138 mm × 118 mm. According to medical history, the patient was born with low crying and hypotonia, who has developed the uncontrollable eating behavior since 3-years old. These abnormalities led to a speculation of PWS syndrome, so a genetic test was performed and finally confirmed it, concluding a torsion of ovarian cyst with PWS. With the multidisciplinary consultation, a careful treatment strategy containing the control of blood pressure and blood sugar, coenzyme Q10 was administrated to nourish the myocardium and the application of Growth Hormone was developed. All the above preoperative treatments have brought great benefits to patients. Thus promising the successful completion of operation. The postoperative follow-up till now indicated that the abdominal incision was well healed, without operative complications. Conclusions This may be the first case report. In the treatment of ovarian cyst torsion, PWS syndrome requires fully consideration, as the latter can lead to multisystem abnormalities, especially the relation to perioperative management, and even fatalities. Genetic testing should be conducted early when PWS was suspected, accompanied with adequate preparation for the perioperative period, the follow-ups of patients should be maintained for a long time after surgery.

Objective: In the present study, we report a retrospective analysis of 23 cases of conjunctival congestion after laparoscopic operation in children and try to explore the causes and intervention measures. Methods and Results: This is a retrospective, single-centre and observational study, and all patients with conjunctival congestion after laparoscopic operation admitted to our institution between August 2021 and December 2021 were included in this study. Records of 23 patients including 16 male patients and 7 female patients were retrospectively analysed. These patients were in the age group of 2–12 years. Their primary symptom was different degrees of conjunctival congestion, and the symptom onset was between 2 and 7 days after laparoscopic operation, including laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, laparoscopic appendectomies, laparoscopic Meckel's diverticulectomy, laparoscopic removal of foreign body ingestions and laparoscopic choledochal cystectomy, and the duration of operations varies from 20 min to 255 min. The symptom disappeared from 5 to 21 days after the operation, and the duration of the symptom ranged from 2 to 14 days. A total of 1718 operations were performed, of which 461 were laparoscopic and 1257 were general operations, the incidence of conjunctival congestion after laparoscopic surgery was 23/461, and compared with 0/1257 after ordinary surgery, there was a significant difference between them. Of these 23 patients, 5 patients received no treatment and the other 18 patients were intervened with steroid-containing eye drops. Although eye drops containing steroids can significantly relieve eye discomfort, the duration of conjunctival congestion between the two groups (i.e. steroid-containing eye drop treated vs. non-steroid-containing eye drop treated) did not differ significantly. All patients recovered well. In the follow-up till the end of February 2022, no serious complications had occurred. Conclusion: Conjunctival congestion after laparoscopic operation is extremely rare in children, and the underlying causes are still unclear. We speculate that the pressure of pneumoperitoneum may be the main cause of this phenomenon. Symptoms may be self-limiting, and steroid-containing eye drops can relieve effectively the discomfort.

Abstract Background Cryptocaryon irritans is a fatal parasite for marine teleosts and causes severe economic loss for aquaculture. Galvanized materials have shown efficacy in controlling this parasite infestation through the release of zinc ions to induce oxidative stress. Methods In this study, the resistance mechanism in C. irritans against oxidative stress induced by zinc ions was investigated. Untargeted metabolomics analysis was used to determine metabolic regulation in C. irritans in response to zinc ion treatment by the immersion of protomonts in ZnSO4 solution at a sublethal dose (20 μmol). Eight differential metabolites were selected to assess the efficacy of defense against zinc ion stimulation in protomonts of C. irritans. Furthermore, the mRNA relative levels of glutathione metabolism-associated enzymes were measured in protomonts following treatment with ZnSO4 solution at sublethal dose. Results The results showed that zinc ion exposure disrupted amino acid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, and nucleotide metabolism in C. irritans. Abstract Background Long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase-4 (ACSL4) is involved in fatty acid metabolism, and aberrant ACSL4 expression could be either tumorigenic or tumor-suppressive in different tumor types. However, the function and clinical significance of ACSL4 in lung adenocarcinoma remain elusive. Results ACSL4 was frequently downregulated in lung adenocarcinoma when analyzing both the TCGA database and the validation samples, and the lower ACSL4 expression was correlated with a worse prognosis. Using gene set enrichment analysis, we found that high ACSL4 expression was frequently associated with the oxidative stress pathway, especially ferroptosis-related proteins. In vitro functional studies showed that knockdown of ACSL4 increased tumor survival/invasiveness and inhibited ferroptosis, while ACSL4 overexpression exhibited the opposite effects. Moreover, high-fat treatment could also inhibit erastin-induced ferroptosis by affecting ACSL4 expression. The anti-tumor effects of ferroptosis inducers and the anti-ferroptosis effects of the high-fat diet were further validated using the mouse xenograft model. Conclusions ACSL4 plays a tumor-suppressive role in lung adenocarcinoma by suppressing tumor survival/invasiveness and promoting ferroptosis. Our study provided a theoretical reference for the application of ferroptotic inducers and dietary guidance for lung adenocarcinoma patients.

Twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) has been extensively studied because of its novel physical properties and potential application in electronic devices. Here we report the synthesis and characterization of 30° TBG naturally grown on Cu0.75Ni0.25 (111) film and investigate the electronic structure by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Compared with other substrates, our TBG with a wafer scale is acquired with a shorter growth time. The Fermi velocity and energy gap of Dirac cones of TBG are comparable with those of a monolayer on Cu0.85Ni0.15 (111). The signature of moiré lattices has not been observed in either the low-energy electron diffraction patterns or the Fermi surface map within experimental resolution, possibly due to different Cu and Ni contents in the substrates enhancing the different couplings between the substrate and the first/second layers and hindering the formation of a quasiperiodic structure. Abstract. Background:. It has been a global trend that increasing complications related to pelvic floor surgeries have been reported over time. The current study aimed to outline the development of Chinese pelvic floor surgeries related to pelvic organ prolapse (POP) over the past 14 years and investigate the potential influence of enhanced monitoring conducted by the Chinese Association of Urogynecology since 2011. Methods:. A total of 44,594 women with POP who underwent pelvic floor surgeries between October 1, 2004 and September 30, 2018 were included from 22 tertiary academic medical centers. The data were reported voluntarily and obtained from a database. We compared the proportion of each procedure in the 7 years before and 7 years after September 30, 2011. The data were analyzed by performing Z test (one-sided). Results:. The number of different procedures during October 1, 2011−September 30, 2018 was more than twice that during October 1, 2004−September 30, 2011. Regarding pelvic floor surgeries related to POP, the rate of synthetic mesh procedures increased from 38.1% (5298/13,906) during October 1, 2004–September 30, 2011 to 46.0% (14,107/30,688) during October 1, 2011–September 30, 2018, whereas the rate of non-mesh procedures decreased from 61.9% (8608/13,906) to 54.0% (16,581/30,688) (Z = 15.53, P

AIM: To investigate the foveal pit morphology changes in unaffected carriers and affected Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) patients with the G11778A mutation from one family. METHODS: This study was a prospective cross-sectional study. Both eyes from 16 family members (age from 9 to 47y) with the G11778A mutation were analyzed and compared with 1 eye from 20 normal control subjects. Eleven family members with the G11778A mutation but without optic neuropathy were classified as unaffected carriers (n=22 eyes). Five family members (n=10 eyes) expressed the LHON phenotype and were classified as affected patients. Retinal images of all the subjects were taken by optical coherence tomography (OCT), and an automatic algorithm was used to segment the retina to eight layers. Horizontal and vertical OCT images centered on the fovea were used to measure intra-retinal layer thicknesses and foveal morphometry. RESULTS: Thicker foveal thickness, thinner foveal pit depth, and flatter foveal slopes were observed in unaffected carriers and affected LHON patients (all P
