Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide. Current treatments, including surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, are limited by severe side effects and the development of resistance. Objective: Therefore, it is important to find additional therapies to combat the problem. Ginsenoside Rb1 is the main active ingredient of ginseng, which is a well-known herb in traditional Chinese medicine. Ginsenoside is reported to play an important role in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Methods: We established Azoxymethane (AOM)/Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) colon cancer model based on inflammation, observed the beneficial effect of ginsenoside Rb1, and detected the changes in gut microbiota. Results: Our experimental results showed that ginsenoside Rb1 significantly reduced the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, IL- 17A, IL-33, IL-1β, and IL-22, increased the level of IL-10, and also changed the gut microbiota composition. These results suggested that ginsenoside Rb1 can be used to prevent inflammation-associated CRC development and may provide an effective therapeutic strategy for CRC by relieving chronic inflammation and restoring the gut microenvironment in the AOM/DSS-induced model of colitis-associated colorectal cancer in mice. Conclusion: Ginsenoside Rb1 significantly attenuated AOM/DSS-induced colon carcinogenesis.

To investigate the effect of Helicobacter pylori (HP) eradication therapy on salivary pepsin concentration in laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) patients with HP infection.A total of 477 patients with suspected LPR were enrolled from June 2020 to September 2021. Reflux symptom index, reflux finding score, the positive rates and disintegrations per minute values of HP infection detected byThe scores of nagging cough (0.88 vs. 0.50, P = 0.035), erythema or hyperemia (1.93 vs. 1.78, P = 0.035) and vocal fold edema (1.04 vs. 0.85, P = 0.025) were higher in the LPR (+) Hp (+) subgroup than in LPR (+) Hp (-) subgroup. The concentrations of salivary pepsin in the Hp (+) subgroup were higher than in the Hp (-) subgroup either in LPR patients (75.24 ng/ml vs. 61.39 ng/ml, P = 0.005) or the non-LPR patients (78.42 ng/ml vs. 48.96 ng/ml, P = 0.024). Compared to baseline (before treatment), scores of nagging cough (0.35 vs. 0.84, P = 0.019) and erythema or hyperemia (1.50 vs. 1.83, P = 0.039) and the concentrations of salivary pepsin (44.35 ng/ml vs. 74.15 ng/ml, P = 0.017) in LPR patients with HP infection decreased after HP treatment; yet, this was not observed for the LPR patients without HP infection treated with PPI only (P 0.05).HP infection may aggravate the symptoms and signs of LPR patients, partly by increasing their salivary pepsin concentration.

This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) by using narrow band imaging (NBI) endoscopy.A prospective study.A large-volume practice with tertiary care providers.A total of 67 patients with suspected LPR who underwent 24-hour multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring were included from June 2020 to March 2022. Manifestations of NBI endoscopy included submucosal clustered brownish microvessels (CBMs), spotted brownish microvessels, and no special microvessels; the latter 2 formed the non-CBM group. The manifestations of all patients and their changes were observed after 8 weeks of proton pump inhibitor and symptomatic treatment for patients with LPR, and symptomatic treatment for patients without LPR.According to the results of 24-hour multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring, the incidence of submucosal CBMs was significantly higher in patients with LPR (30 cases) than in those without LPR (37 cases,Submucosal CBMs in the posterior cricoid area under NBI endoscopy may be a characteristic of LPR.Level of Evidence: 4.

Protein gel of soy was formed immediately during polymerization of aniline initiated by certain amount of FeCl3. In order to obtain iron-doped carbon material, this composite was then carbonized at 700°C under nitrogen atmosphere for 5h. SEM, FT-IR, XRD, and isothermal desorption/adsorption technologies were employed to characterize morphology and structure of the material. Electrical capacitance of iron-doped carbon materials and performance of a prototype supercapacitor based on the material as its electrodes were measured by cyclic voltammetry, chronopotentiometry, and A.C. impedance respectively. Results show that morphology of as-obtained material is porous and hierachical, specific surface area of the material is 232.1m2/g, and specific capacitance of the material can reach 475.2F/g in 6 M KOH aqueous solution. Energy density and power density of the cell is 2.1Wh/kg and 2.0kW/kg, respectively. Capacity retention of the device is 100% after 5000 cycles at a current density of 2A/g. The above studies imply that this original iron-doped carbon material will have a good potential application in field of energy storage.

This study investigated the effect of salidroside on phenotypic transformation of rat pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells(PASMCs) induced by hypoxia. Rat pulmonary arteries were isolated by tissue digestion and PASMCs were cultured. The OD values of cells treated with salidroside at different concentrations for 48 hours were measured by cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) to determine the appropriate concentration range of salidroside. The cells were divided into a normal(normoxia) group, a model(hypoxia) group, and three hypoxia + salidroside groups(40, 60, and 80 μg·mL~(-1)). Quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR) was used to detect the mRNA expression of cell contractile markers in each group, such as α-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA), smooth muscle 22(SM22), and calcium-binding protein(calponin), and synthetic marker vimentin. The expression levels of cell phenotypic markers and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) were detected by Western blot. The proliferation of cells in each group was detected by the 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine(EdU) assay. Cell migration was measured by Transwell assay. As revealed by results, compared with the normal group, the model group showed decreased mRNA and protein expression of contractile phenotypic markers of PASMCs and increased mRNA and protein expression of synthetic markers. Compared with the conditions in the model group, salidroside could down-regulate the mRNA and protein expression of synthetic markers in PASMCs and up-regulated the mRNA and protein expression of contractile phenotypic markers. Compared with the normal group, the model group showed potentiated proliferation and migration. Compared with the model group, the hypoxia + salidroside groups showed blunted proliferation and migration of cells after phenotypic transformation. The results suggest that salidroside can inhibit the expression of synthetic markers in PASMCs and promote the expression of contractile markers to inhibit the hypoxia-induced phenotypic transformation of PASMCs. The mechanism of salidroside in inhibiting the proliferation and migration of PASMCs is related to the inhibition of the phenotypic transformation of PASMCs.

It is crucial to identify DDIs and explore their underlying mechanism (e.g., DDIs types) for polypharmacy safety. However, the detection of DDIs in assays is still time-consuming and costly, due to the need for experimental search over a large space of drug combinations. Thus, many computational methods have been developed to predict DDIs, most of them focusing on whether a drug interacts with another or not. And a few deep learning-based methods address a more realistic screening task for identifying various DDI types, but they assume a DDI only triggers one pharmacological effect, while a DDI can trigger more types of pharmacological effects. Thus, here we proposed a novel end-to-end deep learning-based method (called deepMDDI) for the Multi-label prediction of Drug-Drug Interactions. deepMDDI contains an encoder derived from relational graph convolutional networks and a tensor-like decoder to uniformly model interactions. deepMDDI is not only efficient for DDI transductive prediction, but also inductive prediction. The experimental results show that our model is superior to other state-of-the-art deep learning-based methods. We also validated the power of deepMDDI in the DDIs multi-label prediction and found several new valid DDIs in the case study. In conclusion, deepMDDI is beneficial to uncover the mechanism and regularity of DDIs.

Although the polypharmacy has both higher therapeutic efficacy and less drug resistance in combating complex diseases, drug-drug interactions (DDIs) may trigger unexpected pharmacological effects, such as side effects, adverse reactions, or even serious toxicity. Thus, it is crucial to identify DDIs and explore its underlying mechanism (e.g., DDIs types) for polypharmacy safety. However, the detection of DDIs in assays is still time-consuming and costly, due to the need of experimental search over a large drug combinational space. Machine learning methods have been proved as a promising and efficient method for preliminary DDI screening. Most shallow learning-based predictive methods focus on whether a drug interacts with another or not. Although deep learning (DL)-based predictive methods address a more realistic screening task for identifying the DDI types, they only predict the DDI types of known DDI, ignoring the structural relationship between DDI entries, and they also cannot reveal the knowledge about the dependence between DDI types. Thus, here we proposed a novel end-to-end deep learning-based predictive method (called MTDDI) to predict DDIs as well as its types, exploring the underlying mechanism of DDIs. MTDDI designs an encoder derived from enhanced deep relational graph convolutional networks to capture the structural relationship between multi-type DDI entries, and adopts the tensor-like decoder to uniformly model both single-fold interactions and multi-fold interactions to reflect the relation between DDI types. The results show that our MTDDI is superior to other state-of-the-art deep learning-based methods. For predicting the multi-type DDIs with unknown DDIs in case of both single-fold DDIs and multi-fold DDIs, we validated the effectiveness and the practical capability of our MTDDI. More importantly, MTDDI can reveal the dependency between DDI types. These crucial observations are beneficial to uncover the mechanism and regularity of DDIs.

To study the clinical effect of oral sirolimus in the treatment of children with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) in the gastrointestinal tract, a retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data and follow-up results of two children with BRBNS treated by sirolimus. The two children with BRBNS had gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia and were treated with sirolimus at a dose of 1 mg/day as part of treatment. The plasma concentration of the drug was maintained between 2.5-12.0 ng/mL. The children showed disappearance of gastrointestinal bleeding and improvements in anemia and coagulation function, and blood transfusion could be stopped during treatment, with no obvious adverse drug reactions. PubMed, Wanfang Data, and CNKI were searched for related articles on sirolimus in the treatment of BRBNS. A total of 26 cases of children with BRBNS, aged 0-18 years, were obtained. With the addition of the 2 cases in this study, sirolimus treatment achieved a satisfactory clinical effect in all 28 cases. Sirolimus may be effective and safe in the treatment of children with BRBNS, and further prospective studies are needed to evaluate the long-term efficacy of this drug.

To investigate the dynamic regulation of self-assembled aggregations (SAA) inThe effects of SAA on berberine (Ber) absorption were respectively analyzed in an in situ intestinal perfusion model and in an Ussing Chamber jejunum model with or without Peyer's patches (PPs). The expression levels of ZO-1, Occludin and Claudin-1 were detected by immunofluorescence to evaluate the tight junction (TJ) between intestinal epithelium cells. The expression levels of T-box-containing protein expressed in T cells, signal transducers and activators of tranion-6, retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor γt and forkhead box P3 in PPs were detected by the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and the secretions of interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-17 (IL-17) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) in PPs were evaluated by immunohistochemistry, to reflect the differentiation of T lymphocyte in PPs to helper T (Th) cell 1, Th2, Th17 and regulatory T (Treg) cell. To confirm the correlation between SAA inSAA inSAA can improve the Ber absorption in small intestine, through the PPs-associated immunity induced dynamic regulation on intestinal tissue permeability and TJ proteins expression. These findings might enlighten the research of traditional Chinese medicine decoction.

To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognostic influencing factors of adult AML patients with MLL rearrangement.Clinical data of 184 adult AML patients with MLL rearrangement treated in our hospital from January 2011 to December 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical features, immunophenotypic characteristics, cytogenetic characteristics, molecular biological characteristics and gene mutation characteristics were recorded, the survival and prognostic influencing factors of patients were analyzed.Among 184 patients, 94 cases were male, 90 cases were female, median age were 36.0 years, median WBC count were 22.0×10Adult AML patients with MLL rearrangement are mostly belong to acute monocytic leukemia, and MLL/AF9 is the most common associated gene. Patients with AML and MLL rearrangement are prone to recurrence after routine chemotherapy. Allo-HSCT treatment is helpful to improve clinical prognosis of patients.成人AML伴MLL重排患者临床特征及预后影响因素探讨.探讨成人急性髓系白血病（AML）伴混合谱系白血病（MLL）重排患者临床特征及预后影响因素.回顾性分析本院2011年1月-2017年12月收治的184例成人AML伴MLL重排患者的临床资料，记录其临床特征、免疫表型特征、细胞遗传学特征、分子生物学特征及基因突变特征，分析患者生存情况及预后影响因素.184例患者中男性94例，女性90例，中位年龄为36.0岁，中位白细胞（white blood cell，WBC）计数为22.0×10成人AML伴MLL重排患者多属于急性单核细胞白血病，伴随基因中以MLL/AF9最为常见；该类患者常规化疗后较易复发，行异基因造血干细胞移植（allo-HSCT）治疗有助于改善患者的临床预后.

Two new thymol derivatives (compounds 1–2) were isolated from the roots of Eupatorium chinense. Their structures were elucidated by analysis of MS data and extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy (1H-1H COSY, HMBC, HSQC and NOESY). The absolute configuration of compound 1 was assigned based on a comparison of calculated and experimental ECD. Compounds 1–2 were tested in vitro for their cytotoxic activities against three cancer cell lines CNE 2, Caski and HGC-27. Among them, compound 1 showed notable cytotoxic activities against the three cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 4.2 to 11.9 μM.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to introduce a new narrow band imaging (NBI) endoscopic classification for the diagnosis of vocal cord leukoplakia. Study design Case series. Methods From January 2010 to February 2018, a total of 120 cases of vocal cord leukoplakia were enrolled in this study. The NBI endoscopic system was used to examine the vocal cords. Each lesion was observed by NBI endoscopy and evaluated according to the detailed morphologic findings of intraepithelial papillary capillary loop (IPCL). The superficial IPCL patterns were classified into six types (types I-VI). The differential diagnosis abilities of NBI classification for benign and malignant leukoplakia were investigated. Results Out of the 120 cases of vocal cord leukoplakia, 81% (97 of 120) related to benign lesions (including inflammation, epithelial proliferation, hyperkeratosis, dyskeratosis, mild dysplasia, and moderate dysplasia); the remaining 19% (23 of 120) consisted of malignant lesions (including severe dysplasia, carcinoma in situ, and invasive carcinoma). The accuracy of differential diagnosis for vocal cord leukoplakia using NBI endoscopy was up to 90.8% (109 of 120), significantly higher than that of white light imaging (70.0%, 84 of 120) (χ2 = 16.536, P = 0.000). The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the diagnosis for malignant vocal cord leukoplakia under the NBI endoscope were 82.6%, 92.8%, 73.1%, and 95.7%, respectively. There is relatively good consistency between the NBI endoscopic diagnosis and pathological diagnosis (kappa = 0.718, P = 0.000). Conclusion The new NBI endoscopic classification of vocal cord leukoplakia can improve the accuracy of distinguishing benign and malignant leukoplakia. The potential energy curves and transition dipole moments of 12Σ+ and 12Π states of GaH+ and InH+ cations are performed by employing ab initio calculations. Based on the potential energy curves, the rotational and vibrational energy levels of the two states are obtained by solving the Schrodinger equation of nuclear movement. The spectroscopic parameters are deduced with the obtained rovibrational energy levels. The spin-orbit coupling effect of the 2Π states for both the GaH+ and InH+ cations are also calculated. The feasibility of laser cooling of GaH+ and InH+ cations are examined by using the results of the electronic and spectroscopic properties. The highly diagonal Franck-Condon factors and appropriate radiative lifetimes are determined by using the potential energy curves and transition dipole moments for the 2Π1/2, 3/2 ↔ 12Σ+ transitions. The results indicate that the 2Π1/2, 3/2 ↔ 12Σ+ transitions of both GaH+ and InH+ cations are appropriate for the close cycle transition of laser cooling. The optical scheme of the laser cooling is constructed for the GaH+ and InH+ cations.

A new highly porous mixed-valence metal–organic framework, Co-pydc, was synthesized and characterized. Upon guest loss, Co-pydc irreversibly transformed to a closed structure and lost pore functionality. Then an auxiliary ligand was introduced as a girder to support the framework in the synthesis process, and successfully afforded a new porous MOF, Co-pydc–TPB. This displays a considerably enhanced robust framework which is resistant to guest loss and stable up to 400 °C, retains single-crystallinity at 300 °C, shows good water and alkali resistance, and selective adsorption of CO2 over N2 at room temperature.

Metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived transition metal/carbon nanotubes composites (TM/CNTs) have been developed as a promising oxygen electrocatalyst for energy conversion devices. However, relatively complicated synthesis limits current research to a handful of MOFs precursors. Herein, we used a single-source dicyanamide-based Co-MOF to prepare cobalt nanoparticles-wrapped bamboo-like nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (Co@BNCNTs) by a short-term (3 h) one-step pyrolysis at a lower temperature (as low as 700 °C). Organic dicyanamide linkers on the framework of Co-MOF not only served as the nitrogen source but also conduced to the formation of CNTs, and inorganic Co nanoparticles are enclosed in situ in graphitic carbon shells. Co@BNCNTs exhibited comparable oxygen reduction electrocatalytic activity and enhanced stability to commercial 20 wt% Pt/C catalyst in alkaline solution. Remarkably, rechargeable Zn–air batteries based on Co@BNCNTs as the air cathode demonstrated excellent cycling stability with no increase in polarization even after 65 h. The single-source MOF as precursor offers more facile and designable method for highly active and durable catalysts for various specific reactions.

Ten new germacrane-type sesquiterpenoids (1–10) were isolated from a whole plant extract of Eupatorium chinense. The structures were elucidated by analysis of their NMR and MS data as well as by comparison with literature values. The absolute configuration of eupachinsin A (1) was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compounds 3 and 4 exhibited cytotoxicity against a human breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231), with IC50 values of 0.8 and 3.4 μM, respectively. In addition, compounds 3–5 showed cytotoxicity against the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (HepG2), with IC50 values ranging from 3.6 to 7.6 μM.

The potential energy curves and transition dipole moments of 1 2 Σ + , 2 2 Σ + , 1 2 Π and 2 2 Π states of NH + cation and NH − anion are calculated by using multi-reference configuration interaction method and large all-electron basis sets. Based on the obtained potential energy curves, the rotational and vibrational energy levels of the states are obtained by solving the Schrodinger equation of nuclear movement. The calculated spectroscopic parameters for NH + cation and NH − anion are in good agreement with available theoretical and experimental results. The spin orbit coupling effect of the 2 Π states for both NH + cation and NH − anion are calculated. The feasibility of laser cooling of the two molecules is examined by using the results of the molecular structure and spectroscopy. The highly diagonal Franck-Condon factors for the 1 2 Π (v″ = 0) ↔ 1 2 Σ + (v′ = 0) transition of NH + and NH − are 0.821 and 0.999, while the radiative lifetimes of the 1 2 Σ + (v′ = 0) state for the two molecules are 384 ns and 52.4 ns, respectively. The results indicate that NH + cation and NH − anion are good candidate molecules for laser cooling. The cooling scheme via Sisyphus process for the NH + cation and NH − anion are proposed in the paper. The laser wavelengths for the close cycles of the absorption and radiation are also determined. Unfortunately, the potential energy curve of the ground state of the neutral NH molecule shows that the auto-detachment of NH − anion is possible, implying the optical scheme of laser cooling for NH − anion is not easy to achieve in the experiment although it has larger Franck-Condon factor.

The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-contacting nucleus is implicated in the descending inhibitory pathway in pain processing, whereas the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning CSF-contacting nucleus regulating pain signals remains largely elusive. ATP is evidenced to inhibit pain transmission at supraspinal level by the mediation of the receptor P2X, wherein its subtype P2X3 is identified as the most potent. Our present experiment investigated the functionality of P2X3 receptors in CSF-contacting nucleus in the formalin-evoked inflammatory pain. Immunofluorescence and western blot revealed the expression of P2X3 receptors in the CSF-contacting nucleus and their upregulated expression subsequent to administration of formalin in rat model. ATP (a P2X3 receptor agonist, 100nmol/5µl) by intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) administration ameliorated pain behaviors and enhanced c-Fos immunoreactivity in the neurons of the periaqueductal gray (PAG), both of which were discounted by pre-administration of A-317491 (a selective P2X3 receptor antagonist, 25nmol/5µl). After the CSF-contacting nucleus was ablated by cholera toxin subunit B-saporin, ATP failed to induce analgesia, with the c-Fos immunoreactivity in the PAG neurons remaining intact. Our results validated that P2X3 receptors in the CSF-contacting nucleus are pivotal in inflammatory pain processing via the activation of PAG neurons.

Novel phenothiazine–dithiocarbamate analogues were designed by molecular hybridization strategy and synthesized and evaluated for their anticancer activity in vitro against three selected cancer cell lines (EC-109, MGC-803, and PC-3). The preliminary structure–activity relationship (SAR) for this phenothiazine–dithiocarbamate hybrids is explored. Among all analogues, 2-oxo-2-(10H-phenothiazin-10-yl)ethyl 4-ethylpiperazine-1-carbodithioate (8a) showed the most potent inhibitory activity with an $$\hbox {IC}_{50}$$ value of $$11.59\,\upmu \hbox {M}$$ against PC-3 cells. In addition, compound 8a could arrest the cell cycle at the G1 phase and regulate the expression of G1 checkpoint-related proteins, suggesting that phenothiazine–dithiocarbamate hybrids might be useful as cell cycle blockers.

The potential energy curves and transition dipole moments for the 12Σ+, 22Σ+, 12Π and 22Π electronic states of the two molecules are calculated using multi-reference configuration interaction and the large basis sets aug-cc-pwCV5Z. Based on the obtained potential energy curves, the rotational and vibrational energy levels of the states are obtained by solving the Schrodinger equation of nuclear motion, and the spectroscopic parameters are then obtained by fitting the energy levels to Dunham series expansions. The spin-orbit coupling effect of the 2Π states for both the BH+ cation and BH- anion are calculated. Highly diagonally distributed Franck-Condon factors are determined for the 12Σ+ (v″=0)↔12Π (v'=0) transition, ƒ00 (BH+)=0.943, while the Franck-Condon factors for the 12Π (v″=0)↔12Σ+ (v'=0) transition is ƒ00 (BH-)=0.942. Moreover, the radiative lifetime of 38.2ns for the excited 12Π state of the BH+ and 91.8ns for the 12Σ+ state of the BH- are obtained, which are short enough for rapid laser cooling. A three-step optical scheme of the laser cooling is constructed for either the BH+ cation or the BH- anion.

Three new terpenoids compounds ( 1–3 ) were obtained from ethyl acetate fraction, which was yielded from Eupatorium chinense ’ s ethanol extract . Their structures were determined on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, including 1 H- 1 H COSY, HMBC, HSQC and NOESY experiments. All of the isolated compounds were tested in vitro for their cytotoxic activities against the HepG 2 , HGC-27 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines.

Diabetes (especially Type II) is one of the primary threats to cardiovascular health. Wound healing defects and vascular dysfunction are common in diabetic patients, and the primary cause of deterioration is sustained high plasma glucose. microRNA, a noncoding RNA, has regulatory functions that are critical to maintaining homeostasis. MicroRNA (miR)-126-3p is a potential diabetes biomarker and a proangiogenic factor, and its plasma level decreases in diabetic patients. Previous studies have revealed the proangiogenic character of the gasotransmitter hydrogen sulfide (H2S). However, little is known about the relationship between H2S and miR-126-3p when the extracellular glucose level is high, let alone their influences on deteriorated endothelial cell migration, a key component of angiogenesis, which is crucial for wound healing. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with high glucose (33.3 mmol/L) or normal glucose (5.5 mmol/L) for 48 h. Affymetrix miRNA profiling and real-time PCR were used to validate the miRNA expression. An H2S probe (HSip-1) was used to detect endogenous H2S. Scratch wound-healing assays were used to evaluate HUVEC migration. The protein levels were quantified by Western blot. Both exogenous and endogenous H2S could upregulate the miR-126-3p levels in HUVECs or muscle tissue. High glucose decreased the H2S level and the protein expression of the H2S-producing enzyme cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) in HUVECs; however, the DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) protein level was upregulated. CSE overexpression not only increased the miR-126-3p level by decreasing the DNMT1 protein level but also rescued the deteriorated cell migration in HUVECs treated with high glucose. DNMT1 overexpression decreased the miR-126-3p level and inhibited the migration of HUVECs, whereas silencing DNMT1 improved cell migration. High glucose decreased the endogenous H2S and miR-126-3p levels and increased the DNMT1 expression, thus inducing the migration dysfunction of HUVECs. Treatment with exogenous H2S or the overexpression of the endogenously produced enzyme CSE would rescue this migration dysfunction through H2S-DNMT1-miR-126-3p.

This study explores the safety and effect of acute cerebral infarction treatment by microcatheter injection of tirofiban combined with a Solitaire AB stent and/or stent implantation. Emergency cerebral angiograms showing the responsible vascular occlusion of 120 acute cerebral infarction patients who underwent emergency endovascular thrombectomy were included in the study. These patients were randomly divided into two groups using the random number table method: treatment group (n=60) that received thrombectomy (with cerebral artery stents) combined with intracerebral injection of tirofiban and control group (n=60) that only received thrombectomy (with cerebral artery stents alone). The baseline data, cerebral angiography before and after surgery, hospitalization, and follow-up results of patients in these two groups were compared. Furthermore, the incidence of major adverse cerebrovascular events of these two groups was compared (90-day modified Rankin scale, a score of 0–2 indicates a good prognosis). The difference between baseline clinical data and brain angiography between these two groups was not statistically significant. Patients in the treatment group had a higher prevalence of thrombolysis in cerebral infarction grade 2b/3 than patients in the control group (88.3% (53/60) vs 66.7% (40/60), P=0.036). Moreover, the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores 7 days after surgery and the 90-day prognosis were all better for the patients who received tirofiban (P=0.048 and P=0.024). Mechanical thrombectomy with Solitaire AB stents in combination with the injection of tirofiban through a microcatheter appears to be safe and effective for the endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke.

Using the logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) method, we decomposed factors affecting the national carbon intensity (NCI) in China at a multi-regional level. A comparative analysis of regional contributions in different Five-Year Plan (5YP) periods revealed that the energy structure had inhibitory effects on NCI during the 9th and 10th 5YP periods, but had promoting effects during the 11th and start of the 12th 5YP periods. The energy structure had a strong inhibitory impact in eastern, north-eastern, and northern regions of China, but only a slight impact in central, northern, south-western, and north-western regions. Energy intensity is a major factor and had a strong inhibitory effect on NCI except during the 10th 5YP period. Energy intensity had a strong inhibitory effect in eastern and northern regions, but only a slight impact in north-western and southern regions, especially in Hainan, Ningxia, Xinjiang, and Qinghai provinces. Overall, proportional output in China had a promoting effect on NCI, which indicates regional economic development was not coordinated. The combined effects of regional carbon intensity (RCI) and proportional output determined changes in NCI, and RCI had a strong effect on NCI. Regions with high proportional output and large carbon emissions had a great impact on NCI. The total effect in developed areas such as eastern, northern, and north-eastern regions was strongly inhibitory, while the impact was slight in relatively less developed areas such as northwestern and southern regions. Some policy implications arising from our study results are discussed.

The new NBI classification of nasopharyngeal mucosal microvessels was helpful in differential diagnosis for benign and malignant lesions of the nasopharyngeal region. NBI endoscopy facilitates the detection of superficial nasopharyngeal lesions and might enable early diagnoses of NPC.To propose a new microvessel diagnostic classification using narrow band imaging (NBI) endoscopy and to investigate the role of an NBI classification in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Between January 2009 and December 2010, a total of 290 patients with a suspected nasopharyngeal tumor were enrolled in this study. The NBI endoscopic system was used to examine the nasopharynx. Each lesion was observed by NBI endoscopy and judged according to the detailed morphologic findings of epithelial microvessels. The superficial microvessel patterns were classified into five types (types I-V). The diagnostic effectiveness of NBI for benign and malignant nasopharyngeal lesions was evaluated.Approximately 93.5% (29/31) of lymphoid hyperplasia appeared as the type II microvessel pattern under NBI endoscopy, whereas 96.2% (51/53) of nasopharyngeal radiation-induced inflammation exhibited the type III or IV microvessel pattern. The characteristics of NPC under NBI endoscopy mainly appeared as a type V microvessel pattern (79.5%, 167/210), and the sensitivity, specificity, predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of type V in the diagnosis of NPC were 79.5%, 91.3%, 96.0%, and 62.9%, respectively. Objectives:This study aimed to compare the diagnostic effectiveness of narrow band imaging and autofluorescence imaging for malignant laryngopharyngeal tumours.Methods:Between May 2010 and October 2010, 50 consecutive patients with suspected laryngopharyngeal tumour underwent endoscopic laryngopharynx examination. The morphological characteristics of laryngopharyngeal lesions were analysed using high performance endoscopic systems equipped with narrow band imaging and autofluorescence imaging modes. The diagnostic effectiveness of white light image, narrow band imaging and autofluorescence imaging endoscopy for benign and malignant laryngopharyngeal lesions was evaluated.Results:Under narrow band imaging endoscopy, the superficial microvessels of squamous cell carcinomas appeared as dark brown spots or twisted cords. Under autofluorescence imaging endoscopy, malignant lesions appeared as bright purple. The sensitivity of malignant lesion diagnosis was not significantly different between narrow band imaging and autofluorescence imaging modes, but was better than for white light image endoscopy (χ2 = 12.676, p = 0.002).
