Search

To support the "people-centered" chronic disease health management work, Shanghai has developed a community chronic disease health management information system. This system provides an efficient tool for achieving integrated medical care and disease prevention, as well as collaborative management between doctors and patients, through functions such as information registration and management, risk assessment, chronic disease screening, patient evaluation, and categorized follow-up. It delivers comprehensive, precise, and high-quality health management services for various chronic diseases, effectively promoting the implementation of comprehensive chronic disease prevention and control strategies and the transformative development of chronic disease health management services. However, the system currently requires the inclusion of a broader range of chronic diseases and the enhancement of interactive integration between clinic-based doctor follow-ups and home-based self-management. Future improvements may include the integration of additional disease types and the fusion of complex interaction scenarios to continuously adapt to the new situations and challenges in chronic disease prevention and control.

To accurately diagnose and evaluate the degree of myocardial injury and predict myocardial infarction disease, the rapid and sensitive detection of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) is required. Therefore, a label-less electrochemical aptasensor was prepared for cTnI determination. Ionic liquid 1-hydroxyethy l-3- methyl imidazole four fluorine boric acid salt (IL)-reduced graphene oxide − four ethylene oxidation reduction five amine (rGO-TEPA)/silica (SiO2)- gold platinum (AuPt) (IL-rGO-TEPA/SiO2-AuPt) nanocomposites were synthetized as the substrate nanocomposite and were characterized using a series of characterization methods. The performance of the prepared aptasensor was characterized through electrochemical methods. Result displayed that better substrate materials were synthesized, and the prepared electrochemical aptasensor showed excellent electrochemical performance. Under optimal conditions, the electrochemical aptasensor had a salient analytical performance. The electrochemical signals linearly decreased with the logarithm of the cTnI concentration between the 0.5 pg·mL−1 and 1 × 106 pg·mL−1 concentration range (R2 value = 0.9955) and the aptasensor had a wide detection range (0.5 ∼ 1 × 106 pg·mL−1) and a low detection limit of 0.4 pg·mL−1. At the same time, the aptasensor had good selectivity, repeatability and stability. Relative standard deviation (RSD) values ranged from 3.45 % ∼ 4.97 % and the recovery rate was 97.5 % ∼ 103 % in human serum samples, the RSD values of the spiked recovery and ELISA method were less than 5 %. This study provides a new theoretical basis and method for the clinical detection of cTnI.

ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the association of obesity with CKD among hypertension patients registered at community health service centers in suburb of Shanghai. MethodsThe participants of the study were 3 600 hypertensive patients randomly recruited from chronic disease patients registered at two community health service centers in a suburban district of Shanghai city. Face-to-face interview with a self-designed questionnaire and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, physical examination, laboratory tests were conducted among the participants during October – December 2021. Unconditional multivariate logistics regression model was adopted to analyze the association between body mass index [BMI] and CKD. ResultsOf the 2 991 participants finally included in the analysis, 1 037 (34.67%) were identified as having CKD and the number (proportion) of the participants with decreased estimated glomerular filtration (eGFR), proteinuria, and hematuria were 464 (15.51%), 677 (22.63%), and 99 (3.31%), respectively. After adjusting for age, sex, education, smoking, alcohol drinking, physical activity, diabetes, blood lipids and blood pressure control, unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the participants with obesity (BMI ≥ 28.0) were at a significantly increased risk of having CKD (odds ratio [OR] = 1.498，95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 1.203 – 1.866), decreased estimated glomerular filtration (OR = 1.340，95%CI: 1.001 – 1.793), and proteinuria (OR = 1.388，95%CI: 1.088 – 1.771) compared to those with normal or low body weight (≤ 23.9). Conclusion The prevalence of CKD was high and positively correlated with obesity among hypertension patients registered at community health service centers in suburb of Shanghai.

Introduction: An intelligent office blood pressure measurement (IOBPM) model for community-based hypertension management was piloted in Shanghai, China, to overcome the conventional blood pressure management (CBPM) model’s deficiencies. Methods: We selected adults aged 35–89 years who were being treated and managed for hypertension in two community health centers for the IOBPM and CBPM models. The IOBPM model consisted of two or three consecutive blood pressure (BP) measurements using a pre-programmed and validated automatic device. The BP data for the CBPM model were obtained from the routine follow-up records of hypertensive patients and derived from the Shanghai Non-communicable Diseases Management Information System. Subjects in the IOBPM model were selected by a simple random sampling method, and propensity score matching was used to select a comparable control population from the CBPM model based on important covariables. The BP levels, end-digit preferences, frequency distribution, and BP control were compared between the two models. Results: We selected 2,909 patients for the IOBPM model and 5,744 for the CBPM model. The systolic BP in the CBPM model was 12.3 mmHg lower than in the IOBPM model. In the CBPM model, there were statistically significant end-digit preferences (P < 0.001), with zero being the most reported end-digit (23.3% for systolic BP and 27.7% for diastolic BP). There was no significant end-digit preference in the IOBPM model. Certain BP values below 140/90 mmHg in the CBPM model were more frequent, while the IOBPM model showed a normal distribution. The BP control in the CBPM model was significantly higher than the IOBPM model (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The IOBPM model appears to overcome the deficiencies of the CBPM model, leading to more accurate and reliable BP measurements.

ObjectiveTo explore the prevalence and determinants of hyperuricemia (HUA) among hypertensive patients registered at community health service centers in suburb of Shanghai for promoting prevention and management of HUA in primary health institutions. MethodsThe participants of the study were 3 600 hypertensive patients randomly recruited from chronic disease patients registered at two community health service centers in a suburban district of Shanghai city. Face-to-face interview with a self-designed questionnaire and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, physical examination, laboratory tests were conducted among the participants during October − December 2021. The prevalence of HUA was described and unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to analyze determinants of HUA. ResultsAmong the 2 899 eligible participants, 882 were identified as having HUA, with an overall prevalence of 30.42% and not significantly different gender-specific prevalence of 31.96% for the males and 29.15% for the females (P > 0.05). The results of unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease, overweight, and obesity were risk factors for HUA but suffering from diabetes, medication with angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) or with calcium channel blockers (CCBs) were protective factors against HUA for all the participants; while for the male participants, hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease, overweight, obesity were risk factors and suffering from diabetes was a protective factor; for the female participants, aged 80 years and above, hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease, overweight, obesity were risk factors but medication with ARBs or with CCBs were protective factors. ConclusionThe prevalence of HUA was relatively high in hypertensive patients at community health service centers in suburb of Shanghai. The result suggests that uric acid should be monitored among the hypertensive patients with chronic kidney disease, hyperlipidemia, overweight or obesity and antihypertensive drugs should be selected carefully for hypertensive patients complicated with HUA.

Abstract Background Quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic may have created great psychological stress among vulnerable populations. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety and explore the association between physical activities (PA) and anxiety risk in people with non-communicable diseases during the period of COVID-19 lockdown. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional telephone survey from February 25 to April 20, 2020, the period of COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai. Up to 8000 patients with type 2 diabetes and/or hypertension were selected using multi-stage cluster random sampling. PA level was measured based on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire using Metabolic Equivalent for Task scores, while symptoms of anxiety were assessed by the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the associations of type and level of PA with the risk of anxiety. Results Of a total 4877 eligible patients, 2602 (53.4%) reported with anxiety, and 2463 (50.5%), 123 (2.5%) and 16 (0.3%) reported with mild, moderate, and severe anxiety. The prevalence of anxiety was higher in the females, the elders, non-smokers, non-drinkers, and patients with diabetes, and the associations of anxiety with sex, age, smoking, drinking and diagnosis of diabetes were significant. BackgroundChronic disease management (CDM) falls under production relations, and digital technology belongs to the realm of productivity. Production relations must adapt to the development of productivity. Simultaneously, the prevalence and burden of chronic diseases are becoming increasingly severe, leveraging digital technology to innovate chronic disease management model is essential.MethodsThe model was built to cover experts in a number of fields, including administrative officials, public health experts, information technology staff, clinical experts, general practitioners, nurses, metrologists. Integration of multiple big data platforms such as General Practitioner Contract Platform, Integrated Community Multimorbidity Management System and Municipal and District-Level Health Information Comprehensive Platform. This study fully analyzes the organizational structure, participants, service objects, facilities and equipment, digital technology, operation process, etc., required for new model in the era of big data.ResultsBased on information technology, we build Integrated Community Multimorbidity Care Model (ICMCM). This model is based on big data, is driven by “technology + mechanism,” and uses digital technology as a tool to achieve the integration of services, technology integration, and data integration, thereby providing patients with comprehensive people-centered services. In order to promote the implementation of the ICMCM, Shanghai has established an integrated chronic disease management information system, clarified the role of each module and institution, and achieved horizontal and vertical integration of data and services. Moreover, we adopt standardized service processes and accurate blood pressure and blood glucose measurement equipment to provide services for patients and upload data in real time. On the basis of Integrated Community Multimorbidity Care Model, a platform and index system have been established, and the platform's multidimensional cross-evaluation and indicators are used for management and visual display.ConclusionsThe Integrated Community Multimorbidity Care Model guides chronic disease management in other countries and regions. We have utilized models to achieve a combination of services and management that provide a grip on chronic disease management.

Accurate detection of cancer antigen 72-4 (CA72-4), a tumor-associated glycoprotein, is of great significance for gastric cancer diagnosis and immunotherapy monitoring. Modification of noble metal nanoparticles on transition metal dichalcogenides can significantly enhance functions, such as electron transport. Molybdenum disulfide gold nanoparticles nanocomposites (MoS2-Au NPs) were prepared in this study and a series of characterization studies were carried out. In addition, a label-free, highly sensitive electrochemical immunosensor molybdenum disulfide -Au nanoparticles/Glassy carbon electrode (MoS2-Au NPs/GCE) was also prepared and used for the detection of CA72-4. The electrochemical performance of the immunosensor was characterized by electrochemical techniques, such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results indicated that better MoS2-Au NPs nanomaterials have been synthesized, and the prepared electrochemical immunosensor, MoS2-Au NPs/GCE, showed excellent electrochemical performance. The sensor exhibited high detection sensitivity under optimal conditions, including an incubation time of 30 min, an incubation temperature of 25 °C, and a pH of 7.0. The electrochemical immunosensor also had a low detection limit of 2.0 × 10−5 U/mL (S/N = 3) in a concentration range of 0.001–200 U/mL, with good selectivity, stability, and repeatability. In conclusion, this study provided a theoretical basis for the highly sensitive detection of tumor markers in clinical biological samples.

Abstract Background Adults with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, or lung disease are more likely to develop complications from a number of vaccine-preventable diseases, including influenza and pneumonia. In this study, we use the data from a chronic disease management information system in Shanghai to estimate vaccination coverage and characterize predictors of seasonal influenza and 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) vaccination among people with chronic disease in Shanghai. Methods The Shanghai Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have information systems related to chronic disease management, hospital records, and immunizations. Data from individuals with hypertension, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were abstracted during July 2017. The main outcome was coverage of pneumococcal and influenza vaccination. Vaccination coverage was calculated across demographic groups. Significance in bivariate associations was assessed through Pearson’s chi-square tests, and in multivariable models through logistic regression models with a forward stepwise method to select variables. Results In the sample of 2,531,227 individuals ≥15 years, 22.8% were vaccinated for pneumonia from January 2013 to July 2017, and the vaccination coverage of influenza in the 2016/17 influenza season was 0.4%. Vaccination coverage was highest in those 70–79 and lowest in those younger than 60. Compared to urban areas, uptake in rural areas was higher for pneumonia vaccination (OR: 2.43, 95% CI: 2.41, 2.45), but lower for influenza vaccination (OR: 0.55, 95% CI: 0.51, 0.59). Having a greater number of chronic diseases was associated with higher likelihood of pneumonia vaccination (3 vs 1: OR: 1.68, 95% CI: 1.64, 1.71), but this relationship was not statistically significant for influenza vaccination. Conclusions We found low levels with of pneumococcal vaccination, and extremely low uptake of influenza vaccination among individuals with high risk conditions in Shanghai who should be priority groups targeted for vaccination. Interventions could be designed to target groups with low uptake – like younger adults, and individuals who have not yet retired.

To solve the problem of the harsh midlow frequency noise of rocket fairing, the cylindrical section of the protective precision instrument fairing is simplified as cylindrical shells, and different lining strategies of melamine foam (MF) are studied experimentally and numerically. Based on Virtual.Lab Acoustic software, a finite element model of the cylindrical cavity is established, and the correctness is verified by comparison with the measured data. On that basis, the influences of the lining position of different thickness MF on the noise reduction of cylindrical shells are investigated. It is shown that the thickness and location of the laying material have a significant effect on the noise reduction at the same specific gravity.

The outer-planar anti-Ramsey number of graph H, denoted by ar(On,H), is defined as max{ar(On,H)|On∈On}. It seems nontrivial to determine the exact values for ar(On,H) because most maximal outer-planar graphs are asymmetry. In this paper, we obtain that ar(On,kK2)≤n+3k−8 for all n≥2k and k≥6, which improves the existing upper bound for ar(On,kK2), and prove that ar(On,kK2)=n+2k−5 for n=2k and k≥5. We also obtain that ar(On,6K2)=n+6 for all n≥29.

Objective. To establish a method for analysis of microelements in five kinds of traditional Chinese medicine in high blood pressure medicinal food, mainly including manganese, cobalt, selenium, iron, magnesium, and other 15 elements. Methods. The samples were digested using a microwave digestion instrument through NHO3-H2O2 solution, and then, the elements were synthesized by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Results. The content of cobalt, manganese, zinc, copper, and nickel in the high blood pressure diet foods is higher, the RSD is between 0.005% and 4.82%, and the recovery rate ranges from 93.40% to 106.5%. The precision and recovery of the detection method are higher. Conclusion. The experiment result is better. Medicinal foods curing high blood pressure contain a number of micronutrients that are beneficial to the human body. This experiment provides some meaningful basis for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension.

The effect of the hardness of a steel matrix by heat treatment on the impact abrasive wear of ZTAp/40Cr steel architecture composites is investigated. Of these composites, the ZTA particles-reinforced 40Cr steel matrix composite and pure 40Cr steel formed a 3D network interpenetrating structure. The results show that the architecture composites with the martensite matrix demonstrate the best wear resistance, which is 32.76% higher than that with the troostite matrix and 163.60% higher than that with the pearlite matrix. Under the same Under the same quenching + 460 °C tempering conditions, the wear resistance of the architecture composites is 79.0% higher than that of the homogeneous composites. The wear mechanism analysis shows that the wear performance of composites depends on the interaction between the matrix and the reinforced particles. As the hardness of the composites matrix increases, the reinforcement particles are more strongly supported by the matrix. Conversely, the matrix is preferentially worn, and the ZTA particles are shed due to the lack of protection. The main wear mechanisms include micro-cutting, plastic fatigue wear, and particle crushing and spalling.

This paper investigates a type of linear vibration isolator which incorporates two passive devices, negative stiffness elements and an inerter, into the conventional isolator (massstiffnessdamper). Two configurations of the passive devices are considered, respectively: (1) the direct parallel connection of the inerter and the negative stiffness element; (2) the series connection of the inerter with the viscous damper, which, together, is then connected with the negative stiffness element in parallel. Numerical evaluations are presented for the isolators subject to base harmonic and shock excitation, in terms of the natural frequency, the displacement transmissibility and shock isolation performance. Compared with other corresponding linear isolators, it is found that in the majority of the excitation situations, the presented isolator with the second configuration has a better performance for some isolator parameter values, that is, the inertance-to-mass ratio, the ratio of negative to positive stiffness and the damping coefficient ratio of the two dampers.

To determinate the mineral elements contents in millet，maise，oat，buckwheat，sorghum and purple rice, microwave digestion procedure optimized was applied for digesting six coarse grains. Nineteen mineral element concentrations were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Results displayed the limits of detection (LODs) and the limits of quantification (LOQs) range from 0.0047 to 0.1250 μg/mL and 0.0155 to 0.4125 μg/mL. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) range from 0.83% to 5.03%, which showed that this proposed method was accurate and precise to detect mineral elements in coarse grains simultaneously. Correlation coefficients (r) were calculated in the range of 0.999096-0.999989. The sufficient dada obtained described that the coarse grains selected were abundant in mineral element contents in the human body on daily diet. The success of combining the microwave digestion technology with the ICP-AES was a simple and precise method to determine many mineral elements in coarse grains simultaneously.

Abstract Fruit color is a crucial trait for bell pepper. To investigate the mechanism of color formation, three bell pepper lines with different color (yellow, orange and red) were used as materials to conduct comprehensive targeted metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses. During the process of fruit development, 54 carotenoids metabolites were discovered, exhibiting unique accumulation patterns and notable variety specificity. The types and content of carotenoids in orange fruit (OM) were notably greater compared to the other two varieties. Red pigment (capsanthin and capsorubin) was specifically enriched in red fruit (RM), and yellow pigment (lutein and zeaxanthin) is the highest in yellow fruit (YM) and OM. Five modules positively correlated with carotenoid accumulation and one negative module was determined by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Additionally, transcription factors (TFs) and hub genes related to carotenoid synthesis were predicted. By elucidating the regulation of 7 key carotenoid metabolites by 14 critical genes and 5 key TFs, we constructed a comprehensive carotenoid biosynthesis metabolic network that comprehensively explains the pigment changes observed in green and mature pepper fruit. Overall, the results not only provide important insights into carotenoid synthesis pathway, but also lay a solid base for revealing the mechanism of bell pepper color transformation.

Abstract Optical fiber sensors (OFSs) have attracted more and more attention in the field of in-situ ocean observation because of their advantages of the small size, light weight, low cost, and intrinsic immunity to electromagnetic interference. Here, we comprehensively reviewed the development of various advanced physical and chemical OFSs for in-situ measurement of ocean key parameters, including temperature, salinity, pressure, acoustics, flow velocity and turbulence, potential of hydrogen (pH), heavy metal ions, nitrates, and gases. Moreover, the performances of different kinds of OFSs and their practical sea trial reports for in-situ measurement in the marine environment are provided. As we discussed, the field of OFS is rapidly evolving and is poised to make essential breakthroughs in marine monitoring, leading to better utility of marine resources.

Abstract Polynyas play a critical role in the formation of Antarctic Bottom Water and the enhancement of polar primary productivity. Accurate and exhaustive identification of Antarctic polynyas is fundamental to advancing in-depth research. However, due to methodological limitations, previous studies paid more attention to frequent polynyas and infrequent polynyas have not been investigated much despite that they could be vulnerable to climate change. Inspired by a cyclone tracking algorithm, we develop a novel method to overcome challenges identifying all types of polynyas satisfying spatiotemporal criteria and tracing their daily evolution, extracting from an extensive amount of sea ice concentration data. Based on it, we establish a dataset called “Daily Edge of Each Polynya in Antarctica” (DEEP-AA). Validation against remote sensing and ship-based observations confirms DEEP-AA’s reliability. Compared to existing maps, the DEEP-AA identifies a threefold number of polynyas and reveals the seasonal area recovery of infrequent polynyas is earlier than frequent ones.

Magnetic fields, as a form of physical energy, exert an influence on biological activities. However, our current understanding of the impact of magnetic fields on wheat yield remains limited. In this study, our objective was to investigate the effects of magnetic field treatment of wheat plants on their yield, root growth, absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus and soil bacterial diversity. The experiments were conducted at two agricultural research stations in China, Zhengzhou and Xuchang. Plants were treated with magnetic fields of 20, 40, 60, and 80 mT induced by permanent magnets for chronic exposure. Untreated plants were considered as controls. Our result showed that soil nutrients were found to have a substantial impact on wheat nitrogen and phosphorus absorption, and wheat nitrogen and phosphorus absorption significantly affected wheat yield. The change in soil nutrient content was caused by the change in soil bacterial community diversity and abundance, and increased soil nutrients increased wheat yield. The results suggest that magnetic field treatment stimulated wheat plant growth and yield, and changed soil nutrient content through improved soil bacterial community diversity and increased soil nitrogen and phosphorous absorption.

Abstract Background Refractory exit-site infections (ESIs) and tunnel infections (TIs) are challenging complications for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). This study compared the outcomes of surgical intervention, notably the cuff-shaving (CS) procedure coupled with negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT), and conservative management strategies for patients with refractory ESI and TI. Methods We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent PD at our center, focusing on the incidence and management of ESI and TI. We evaluated and compared treatment outcomes, including ESI scores, frequency of ESI and/or TI, identification of causative microorganisms, and duration of catheter survival or time until removal. Results We identified 97 episodes of catheter-related ESI and/or TI across 71 patients with an incidence rate of 0.15 episodes per patient-year. Of the 23 patients with refractory ESI and/or TI, surgical intervention was performed in 8, while 15 chose conservative management. In the one-month follow-up, patients who underwent CS combined with NPWT showed no complications such as leakage, and their local symptoms resolved completely. The mean PD catheter survival time was significantly longer in the surgical group (29.38 ± 7.25 months) than in the conservative group (7.86 ± 2.13 months). Surgical intervention demonstrated a significantly higher therapeutic efficacy and extended catheter survival. Conclusions The combination of CS and NPWT as a surgical approach is crucial for eradicating infectious foci and significantly improving the longevity of PD catheter function. This integrated surgical strategy offers a promising solution for the management of refractory ESI and TI in patients undergoing PD.

NAC (NAM/ATAF1/2/CUC2) transcription factors regulate plant growth and development and stress responses. Because NAC transcription factors are known to play important roles in the regulation of salt tolerance in many plants, we aimed to explore their roles in the halophyte Suaeda glauca. Based on transcriptome sequencing data, we identified 25 NAC transcription factor gene family members. In a phylogenetic tree analysis with Arabidopsis thaliana NAC transcription factors, the SgNACs were divided into 10 groups. The physicochemical properties and conserved domains of the putative proteins, as well as the transcript profiles of their encoding genes, were determined for the 25 SgNAC genes using bioinformatic methods. Most of the S. glauca NAC genes were upregulated to some extent after 24 h of salt stress, suggesting that they play an important role in regulating the salt tolerance of S. glauca. These findings lay the foundation for further research on the functions and mechanisms of the NAC gene family in S. glauca.

Abstract Antarctic sea ice extent (SIE) reached a new record low in February 2023. Here we examine the evolution of the coupled ocean-atmosphere-sea ice system during the 12 months preceding the record. The impact of preceding conditions is assessed with observations, reanalyses, and output from the regional ocean-sea ice coupled model NEMO3.6-LIM3. We find that the 2022-2023 sea ice annual cycle was characterized by consistently low SIE throughout the year, anomalously rapid sea ice retreat in December 2022, and nearly circumpolar negative SIE anomalies in February 2023. While advection-induced positive air temperature anomalies inhibited the sea ice growth in most regions, strong southerly winds in the Amundsen-Ross Sea caused by an anomalously deep Amundsen Sea Low in spring transported notable volumes of sea ice northward, triggering an unusually active ice-albedo feedback onshore and favoring accelerated melt towards the minimum. This study highlights the impacts of multifactorial processes during the preceding seasons to explain the recent summer sea ice minima.

PurposeThis study presents a novel randomized controlled trial investigating photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy as an intervention method for color vision deficiency (CVD).MethodsA total of 74 participants with CVD were assigned to either the PBM group or the control group. In the PBM group, participants wore virtual reality (VR) goggles twice daily, with a 12-h interval, over a four-week period. The VR video consisted of alternating red and green images, each presented for 5 s, totaling 6 min and 20 s. No treatment was administered to the control group. Color vision improvement was assessed using Yu’s, Ishihara’s pseudoachromatic plates, Color Blindness Check (CBC), and FM-100 Hue total error score (TES).ResultsAfter 4 weeks, in terms of Yu’s and Ishihara’s Plates, the patients in PBM group could identify increasing pieces (before: 1.6 ± 1.6, 2.3 ± 2.2; 4 weeks: 6.5 ± 4.4, 5.4 ± 2.9), while in control group, the number was before: 2.6 ± 3.4, 2.6 ± 2.5; 4 weeks: 3.3 ± 3.6, 2.9 ± 2.2. As for CBC scores, the patients in PBM also showed improved high scores (before: 2353.3 ± 700.0; 4 weeks: 2693.6 ± 642.5). Moreover, PBM treatment resulted in a significant reduction of FM-100 scores (before: 298.0 ± 211.3; 4 weeks: 202.1 ± 114.4).ConclusionThese findings suggest that PBM therapy holds promise as a potential treatment option for individuals with CVD.Clinical trial registrationThe study received approval from the Ethics Committee of PLA General Hospital, China (KY2021-017). Rapid decline in Arctic summer sea ice cover has brought new opportunities for shipping and resource exploitation in the Arctic, and accurate determination of summer sea ice conditions has become increasingly important. Knowledge of sea ice velocity (SIV) is crucial for ice engineering and navigation in the Arctic. This study retrieved SIV in summer based on the polarization difference (PD) of brightness temperatures (TBs) at 36 GHz derived from the recalibrated FY-3D satellite microwave radiometer data FY-3D/MWRI. Compared with swath TB data, swath PD data can better suppress the noise associated with atmospheric wetness (cloud liquid water and water vapor). Moreover, different from the arbitrary template selection scheme used in current algorithms, we propose an optimized template selection scheme based on the image texture, which considers the frequent deformation processes of sea ice in summer. Determination of SIV using templates with irregular distribution presents lower uncertainty and higher computational efficiency compared with templates with regular distribution. Based on the improved algorithm, this study obtained either swath irregular SIV fields with nominal spatial resolution of 30 km or daily gridded SIV fields with 50-km spatial resolution in summer 2019 using 36-GHz PDs.

ABSTRACTInformation on Arctic sea-ice motion in summer is critical for operational sea-ice monitoring and prediction and commercial navigation. Affected by the melting of the sea-ice surface, the accuracy and spatial coverage of the sea-ice velocity (SIV) retrieved by brightness temperature (TB) during the melting period are always lower than in winter. Our research indicates that the lack of ice–water discrimination in summer for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) 36 GHz TB is the main reason for the poor quality of its SIV results. We propose a new SIV retrieval scheme based on the polarization difference (P) of the 36 GHz TB. The 36-P SIV has a higher spatial coverage than that derived from 18-H, 36-H and 36-V SIVs and a higher maximum cross-correlation coefficient than 36 GH TB-derived SIVs. Compared with buoy and Synthetic Aperture Radar SIVs, the 36-P SIV’s error is close to that of 18-H SIV and significantly lower than that of 36 TB SIV. Therefore, our results indicate that 36-P is more competitive than the 36 GHz TB in SIV retrieval in summer. Further analysis shows that our proposed scheme is compatible with the two current mainstream SIV tracking algorithms, demonstrating its great potential for future summer SIV retrieval.

Abstract Atmospheric turbulence over the Arctic sea‐ice surface has been understudied due to the lack of observational data. In this study, we focus on the turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) over sea ice and distinguish its two different vertical structures, the “Surface” type and the “Elevated” type, using observations during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate expedition (MOSAiC). The “Surface” type has the maximum TKE near the surface (at 2 m), while the “Elevated” type has the maximum TKE at a higher level (6 m). The TKE budget analysis indicates that the “Elevated” type is caused by the increased shear production of TKE at 6 m. In addition, spectral analysis reveals that the contribution to TKE by horizontal large eddies is enhanced in the “Elevated” type. Finally, how the vertical structure of TKE affects the parameterization of turbulent momentum flux is discussed.

Abstract Background The use of gene therapy to deliver microRNAs (miRNAs) has gradually translated to preclinical application for the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). However, the effects of miRNAs are hindered by the short half-life time and the poor cellular uptake, owing to the lack of efficient delivery systems. Here, we investigated nucleus pulposus cell (NPC) specific aptamer-decorated polymeric nanoparticles that can load miR-150-5p for IDD treatment. Methods The role of miR-150-5p during disc development and degeneration was examined by miR-150-5p knockout (KO) mice. Histological analysis was undertaken in disc specimens. The functional mechanism of miR-150-5p in IDD development was investigated by qRT-PCR assay, Western blot, coimmunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence. NPC specific aptamer-decorated nanoparticles was designed, and its penetration, stability and safety were evaluated. IDD progression was assessed by radiological analysis including X-ray and MRI, after the annulus fibrosus needle puncture surgery with miR-150-5p manipulation by intradiscal injection of nanoparticles. The investigations into the interaction between aptamer and receptor were conducted using mass spectrometry, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. Results We investigated NPC-specific aptamer-decorated polymeric nanoparticles that can bind to miR-150-5p for IDD treatment. Furthermore, we detected that nanoparticle-loaded miR-150-5p inhibitors alleviated NPC senescence in vitro, and the effects of the nanoparticles were sustained for more than 3 months in vivo. The microenvironment of NPCs improves the endo/lysosomal escape of miRNAs, greatly inhibiting the secretion of senescence-associated factors and the subsequent degeneration of NPCs. Importantly, nanoparticles delivering miR-150-5p inhibitors attenuated needle puncture-induced IDD in mouse models by targeting FBXW11 and inhibiting TAK1 ubiquitination, resulting in the downregulation of NF-kB signaling pathway activity. Conclusions NPC-targeting nanoparticles delivering miR-150-5p show favorable therapeutic efficacy and safety and may constitute a promising treatment for IDD. Graphical Abstract
