Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a non-invasive neuroimaging technique that can detect whole-brain neuroelectromagnetic signals in real-time in a single measurement. Due to excellent temporal and spatial resolution and integration of computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging data, MEG allows signal source analysis. It can pinpoint epileptic foci as well as functional brain regions, reducing the necessity for invasive electrode implantation.

Background Ascertaining the total body water (V), usually obtained by the Watson formula or bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS), is crucial for the calculation of Kt/V in patients with peritoneal dialysis (PD). The aim of our study was to compare two different methods of determining V and explore which one is suitable for clinical application.Methods This was a retrospective observational study. V was determined using the Watson formula (Vwat) and BIS (Vbis). The differences between Vbis and Vwat and between Kt/Vbis and Kt/Vwat were assessed. The patients were allocated to different groups according to the Kt/Vwat and Kt/Vbis values. Clinical parameters were compared between these groups to investigate which method of obtaining the Kt/V value was more suitable.Results 150 patients on PD were included. Vwat was significantly higher than Vbis, apart from in female patients with volume overload. Consequently, weekly Kt/Vwat was lower than Kt/Vbis in these patients. A significant negative correlation between mean Vwat-Vbis and overhydration values was also found. Moreover, through uniform manifold approximation and projection analysis, a clustering tendency between patients in the adequate group with both Kt/Vwat and Kt/Vbis > =1.7 and patients in the inconsistent group with Kt/Vwat =1.7 was identified, suggesting that their clinical features were similar.Conclusion There were significant differences between Vwat and Vbis and between Kt/Vwat and Kt/Vbis. Kt/Vwat may underestimate small-solute dialysis adequacy in most cases. Kt/Vbis instead of Kt/Vwat could be accounted for in creating individualized dialysis prescriptions if the patient has no obvious clinical symptoms.

Summary: In this study, 198 patients with low-grade gliomas (LGGs) undergoing primary resection were evaluated for seizure status at 24 months after primary resection with the Engel classification of seizures, and 120 patients had good seizure control (class I) while 78 patients had poor seizure control (class II–IV). Multivariate analysis showed that cortex involvement, subtotal resection, serum IL-6 concentration, and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were associated with poor seizure control. The area under curve (AUC) of serum IL-6 concentration, NLR and their combination applied in predicting poor seizure control was 0.756, 0.714, and 0.857, respectively. The AUC of combination prediction was significantly higher than those of individual prediction. Therefore, elevated serum IL-6 concentration was associated with poor seizure control in LLG patients undergoing primary resection and could be applied in predicting seizure control, and the predictive value could be elevated through adding other serum indices to IL-6.

The use of ferronickel slag powder (FNSP) as a cementitious additional material has been supported by numerous reports. FNSP concrete has the same shortcomings as ordinary concrete, including low hardness. In this study, in order to make FNSP concrete more durable, end-hooked type steel fibers were incorporated. To understand how various elements affect the mechanical properties of steel fibers, an experiment was carried out on the mechanical properties of steel FNSP concrete (SFNSPC). FNSP’s principal ingredients, with a particle size distribution ranging from 0.5 to 100 μm and a sheet-like powder shape, are CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, and others, according to tests conducted on the material’s microstructure and composition. Then, eighteen mix proportions were developed, comprising six distinct FNSP replacement rate types and three distinct steel fiber content types. Crucial metrics were evaluated and analyzed, including the relationship among the toughness, tensile strength, and compressive strength as well as slump, splitting tensile strength, compressive strength, and uniaxial compressive stress–strain curve of SFNSPC. The results showed that the slump of SFNSPC under different FNSP replacement rates decreased with increasing steel fiber volume. Steel fibers have a small but positive effect on SFNSPC’s compressive strength; nonetheless, as FNSP replacement rates increased, SFNSPC’s slump gradually decreased, though not by much. These results show that FNSP is a viable alternative cementitious material in terms of strength. Specifically, the splitting tensile strength of SFNSPC improves with an increase in steel fiber content, and the pace at which SFNSPC strength drops with an increase in the FNSP replacement rate. With varying mix proportions, the stress–strain curve trend of SFNSPC remains mostly constant, and steel fibers improve the compressive toughness of SFNSPC. After adding 0.5% and 1.0% steel fibers, the toughness index of concrete with different FNSP replacement rates increased by 8–30% and 12–43%, respectively.

By using the principles of porous media seepage mechanics and solute transport theories, a seepage–erosion theory model was developed to uncover the dynamics of mud and water inrush in fault rupture zones during the construction of tunnels. This model consists of a mass conservation equation, a flow transformation equation, a porosity evolution equation, and a permeability evolution equation. These components illustrate the interaction between seepage–erosion particle loss and the transformation of seepage flow patterns throughout the mud and water inrush evolution in the fault fracture zone. This model proves to be effective in illustrating the catastrophic process of mud and water inrushes within tunnels located in fault rupture zones. To address the spatial and temporal variations, the implicit difference and Galerkin finite element schemes were utilized, and the Newton–Raphson iteration method was applied to handle the nonlinear attributes of the equations. The theoretical model underwent further development and numerical simulations were performed using COMSOL multi-field coupling software. A comparison with existing indoor water inrush mud model test results validated the effectiveness of our model. The theoretical model was then applied to the Yong Lian tunnel scenario within the fault rupture zone. This computational analysis exposed the sequence of flow pattern transformations and the instability in seepage–erosion evolution within the fault rupture zone, ultimately leading to the emergence of mud and water inrush disasters. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for addressing tunnel engineering challenges related to underwater inrush disasters.

Brain extraction is an important prerequisite for the automated diagnosis of intracranial lesions and determines, to a certain extent, the accuracy of subsequent lesion identification, localization, and segmentation. To address the problem that the current traditional image segmentation methods are fast in extraction but poor in robustness, while the Full Convolutional Neural Network (FCN) is robust and accurate but relatively slow in extraction, this paper proposes an adaptive mask-based brain extraction method, namely AMBBEM, to achieve brain extraction better. The method first uses threshold segmentation, median filtering, and closed operations for segmentation, generates a mask for the first time, then combines the ResNet50 model, region growing algorithm, and image properties analysis to further segment the mask, and finally complete brain extraction by multiplying the original image and the mask. The algorithm was tested on 22 test sets containing different lesions, and the results showed MPA = 0.9963, MIoU = 0.9924, and MBF = 0.9914, which were equivalent to the extraction effect of the Deeplabv3+ model. However, the method can complete brain extraction of approximately 6.16 head CT images in 1 second, much faster than Deeplabv3+, U-net, and SegNet models. In summary, this method can achieve accurate brain extraction from head CT images more quickly, creating good conditions for subsequent brain volume measurement and feature extraction of intracranial lesions.

IntroductionFurfural, a main inhibitor produced during pretreatment of lignocellulose, has shown inhibitory effects on S. cerevisiae.MethodIn the present study, new strains named 12–1 with enhanced resistance to furfural were obtained through adaptive laboratory evolution, which exhibited a shortened lag phase by 36 h, and an increased ethanol conversion rate by 6.67% under 4 g/L furfural.Results and DiscussionTo further explore the mechanism of enhanced furfural tolerance, ADR1_1802 mutant was constructed by CRISPR/Cas9 technology, based on whole genome re-sequencing data. The results indicated that the time when ADR1_1802 begin to grow was shortened by 20 h compared with reference strain (S. cerevisiae CEN.PK113-5D) when furfural was 4 g/L. Additionally, the transcription levels of GRE2 and ADH6 in ADR1_ 1802 mutant were increased by 53.69 and 44.95%, respectively, according to real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR analysis. These findings suggest that the enhanced furfural tolerance of mutant is due to accelerated furfural degradation. Importance: Renewable carbon worldwide is vital to achieve “zero carbon” target. Bioethanol obtained from biomass is one of them. To make bioethanol price competitive to fossil fuel, higher ethanol yield is necessary, therefore, monosaccharide produced during biomass pretreatment should be effectively converted to ethanol by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. However, inhibitors formed by glucose or xylose oxidation could make ethanol yield lower. Thus, inhibitor tolerant Saccharomyces cerevisiae is important to this process. As one of the main component of pretreatment hydrolysate, furfural shows obvious impact on growth and ethanol production of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. To get furfural tolerant Saccharomyces cerevisiae and find the underlying mechanism, adaptive laboratory evolution and CRISPR/Cas9 technology were applied in the present study

Abstract Background Cancer stem cells (CSCs) play an important role in endometrial cancer progression and it is potential to isolate CSCs from spheroid cells. Further understanding of spheroid cells at protein level would help find novel CSC markers. Methods Spheroid cells from endometrial cancer cell lines, Ishikawa and HEC1A, exhibited increased colony forming, subsphere forming, chemo-drug resistance, migration, invasion ability and tumorigenicity, verifying their cancer stem-like cell properties. The up-regulated CD90, CD117, CD133 and W5C5 expression also indicated stemness of spheroid cells. TMT-based quantitative proteomic analysis was performed to explore the potential alterations between parent cells and cancer stem-like spheroid cells. HK2-siRNA was transfected to Ishikawa and HEC1A cells to explore the roles and molecular mechanism of HK2 in endometrial cancer. Results We identified and quantified a total of 5735 proteins and 167 overlapped differentially expressed proteins of two cell types, 43 proteins were up-regulated and 124 were down-regulated in spheroid cells comparing with parent cells. KEGG pathway revealed a significant role of HIF-1 pathway in spheroid cells. qRT-PCR and western blot results of GPRC5A, PFKFB3 and HK2 of HIF-1 pathway confirmed their elevated expressions in spheroid cells which were consistent with proteomic results. HK2 promoted cancer stemness in endometrial cancer. Conclusion These findings indicate that spheroid cells from endometrial cancer cell lines possess cancer stem-like cell properties and enrich CSCs. HIF-1 pathway is activated in endometrial cancer stem-like spheroid cells.

Inverse lithography technologies (ILTs) are critical for improving the imaging performance of lithography in advanced technology nodes. Pixel-based source optimization (SO), as an efficient part of ILTs, can be implemented via heuristic approaches to achieve high-performance lithographic imaging. In this paper, a SO approach based on a combination of the particle-swarm optimization and genetic algorithms (PSO–GA) is proposed to determine the optimal intensity distribution of the source via iterations. The pixelated source can be decoded into the optimized variables of the merit functions in the SO model. The proposed PSO–GA algorithm, as a high-efficiency hybrid algorithm, can transform the discrete SO problem into the optimal search solution for the merit function, thereby inversely enhancing the lithographic-imaging performance. In the forward-imaging model in the lithography, the extraction of the mask's effective diffraction spectrum is implemented to calculate the layout of resist patterns. The simulation results highlight the superior performance of the proposed approach in achieving pixelated SO over the traditional GA and PSO algorithm in terms of convergence capacity.

AbstractStephania cepharantha Hayata (S. cepharantha) is a common folk medicine herb in China with many therapeutic activities. This study used Illumina sequencing technology to construct a circular chloroplast genome map and compared it with that of other Stephania species. The genome of S. cepharantha is 158,052 bp in length, including a large single-copy region of 88,770 bp, a small single-copy region of 19,760 bp, and two reverse repeat regions of 49,522 bp. The genome encodes eight ribosomal ribonucleic acid (RNA) genes, 37 transfer RNA genes, and 85 protein-coding genes. Nucleotide variation analysis revealed that six highly variable regions of Stephania can be used as potential molecular markers for taxonomic research and evolutionary analysis. This study is the first chloroplast genome report on S. cepharantha, and it provides rich and valuable genetic information for understanding the evolutionary relationships and population inheritance of the species.

Furfural produced during lignocellulose pretreatment to reduce the recalcitrance inhibits the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and reduces ethanol yield. To reduce the adverse effect of furfural on S. cerevisiae, exogenous ergosterol was supplemented and the impact on S. cerevisiae under furfural stress was studied. The lag phage was shortened by 50%, and the maximum ethanol yield was increased by 158% with 50 mg/L ergosterol supplementation under 4 g/L furfural stress. Flow cytometry analysis results showed that permeable cells and intracellular reactive oxygen species were decreased by 45 and 53%, respectively with the addition of ergosterol under furfural stress. The fatty acid composition of S. cerevisiae was changed; the intracellular glycerol and ergosterol content was increased after ergosterol supplementation. The saturation of fatty acid was increased. Addition of ergosterol promoted cell growth by decreasing oxidative stress. Under 4 g/L furfural stress, the lag phage of S. cerevisiae BY4741 (erg3△) and S. cerevisiae BY4741 (erg5△) was longer than that of S. cerevisiae BY4741, and the maximum ethanol concentration was decreased.

BackgroundDiabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains the primary cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) globally, but treatment options are limited. Kunxian capsule (KXC) has been utilized for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and IgA nephropathy in China. However, its effect on DKD remains poorly investigated. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the protective effect of KXC in db/db mice and elucidate its underlying mechanism.MethodsThe renoprotective effects of KXC were assessed in a DKD mouse model using male BKS db/db diabetic mice. After 8 weeks of treatment, the urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR), blood biochemical parameters, renal histopathological manifestation, and podocyte ultrastructural changes were evaluated. Additionally, the expression of podocyte epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers [WT1, ZO-1, and collogen I (Col1a1)] was quantitatively analyzed. Furthermore, we explored the role of KXC in the β-catenin signaling pathway to elucidate the underlying mechanism of KXC’s renoprotective effect.ResultsKXC treatment effectively reduced albuminuria and attenuated renal structural abnormalities in db/db mice. Additionally, KXC restored the protein and mRNA expression of WT1 and ZO-1 while suppressing the expression of Col1a1 in db/db mice, indicating its ability to alleviate podocyte EMT. Mechanistically, KXC exerted a significant suppressive effect on the activation of β-catenin signaling in diabetic kidneys.ConclusionKXC has the potential to protect podocytes during DKD by alleviating podocyte EMT through inactivating β-catenin signaling.

Source mask optimization (SMO), a primary resolution enhancement technology, is one of the most pivotal technologies for enhancing lithography imaging quality. Due to the high computation complexity of SMO, patterns should be selected by a selection algorithm before optimization. However, the limitations of existing selection methods are twofold: they are computationally intensive and they produce biased selection results. The representative method having the former limitation is the diffraction signature method. And IBM’s method utilizing the rigid transfer function tends to cause biased selection results. To address this problem, this study proposes a novel pattern cluster and selection algorithm architecture based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). The proposed method provides a paradigm for solving the critical pattern selection problem by CNN to transfer patterns from the source image domain to unified embeddings in a K-dimensional feature space, exhibiting higher efficiency and maintaining high accuracy.

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to assess the predictive value of five different intrauterine adhesion (IUA) evaluation systems for live birth rate following transcervical resection of adhesion (TCRA). Method This retrospective study included 128 women with IUA who desired for spontaneous conception after TCRA. All the patients were retrospectively scored by the American Fertility Society (AFS) classification, European Society of Gynecological Endoscopy (ESGE) classification, March’s classification (March), Nasr classification (Nasr) and Chinese IUA diagnosis classification criteria (Chinese). The predictive value of these evaluation systems was determined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under a ROC curve (AUC). Results The correlation coefficients of AFS, ESGE, March, Nasr and Chinese classification and the live birth rate were 0.313, 0.313, 0.288, 0.380, and 0.336, respectively. Abstract Background Intestinal perforation from peritoneal dialysis is rare, but the resulting complications are serious. Some patients do not necessarily have symptoms, and it can be difficult to differentiate their condition from PD-related (peritoneal dialysis-related) peritonitis, which may lead to misdiagnosis. Here we report a peritoneal dialysis patient with intestinal fistula associated with recurrent peritonitis. Case presentation A 44-year-old man had been treated for more than 6 years with peritoneal dialysis for chronic kidney disease stage-V. Abdominal computed tomography and electronic colonoscopy revealed an appendiceal fossa with adjacent fistula. The peritoneal dialysis catheter was removed, and the patient recovered with no recurrence of complications. Conclusion We report a case of a rare complication of peritoneal dialysis. The intestinal fistula in this patient was mainly caused by recurrent peritonitis and removal of the catheter could control the peritonitis.

The traditional discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) strategy is very suitable for reducing the switching losses of three-level inverter (TLI). However, large neutral point voltage (NPV) fluctuation is usually caused, which results in low frequency harmonics (LFHs) in the output line voltage. Therefore, a DPWM modulation strategy that can suppress LFHs is presented in this paper, and it is recorded as low frequency harmonic reduction DPWM (LFHRDPWM). The proposed LFHRDPWM can be seen as an improvement of traditional DPWM, which modifies the duty ratios according to voltages of the two DC-link capacitors. For LFHRDPWM, due to the suppressed LFHs, the self-balancing ability of NPV is thus lost, and gradually increased DC offset on NPV is caused. To overcome that, an active neutral point voltage control (ANPVC) method is also proposed. The proposed methods not only can achieve switching loss (SL) reduction almost as the same as traditional DPWM strategy, but also can realize NPV control and LFHs reduction. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experiments.

In recent years, T-type three-level inverter (TLI) has attracted attentions due to its advantages, such as simple structure and higher efficiency. Neutral point voltage (NPV) is very critical for its normal operation, and the necessary conditions of maintaining NPV balance respectively in a switching cycle and in a fundamental cycle are simply reviewed in this paper. With the increment of power switches, the reliability of T-type TLI becomes particularly important. When switch faults occur, fault-tolerant control strategies are usually adopted. However, in existing literatures, it is unknown whether the NPV balance can be still maintained under different fault types. Therefore, the application range of a fault-tolerant control is also unknown. In this paper, based on the necessary conditions of maintaining NPV balance, the application ranges of two representative fault-tolerant control strategies are revealed under different open-circuit (OC) fault types in inner switch. It found that the application ranges are closely related to the modulation index, load power factor (PF) and OC fault type. Finally, the correctness of the theoretical analysis is verified by the experimental results.

Tubular cell senescence is a common biologic process and contributes to the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD); however, the molecular mechanisms regulating tubular cell senescence are poorly understood. Here, we report that integrin β3 (ITGB3) expression was increased in tubular cells and positively correlated with fibrosis degree in CKD patients. ITGB3 overexpression could induce p53 pathway activation and the secretion of TGF-β, which, in turn, resulted in senescent and profibrotic phenotype change in cultured tubular cells. Moreover, according to the CMAP database, we identified isoliquiritigenin (ISL) as an agent to inhibit ITGB3. ISL treatment could suppress Itgb3 expression, attenuate cellular senescence, and prevent renal fibrosis in mice. These results reveal a crucial role for integrin signaling in cellular senescence, potentially identifying a new therapeutic direction for kidney fibrosis.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a relatively common complication after surgery for type A acute aortic dissection (ATAAD) and is associated with a poor prognosis. Preclinical models suggest that toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) may participate in the pathogenesis of AKI. However, the correlation of serum TLR4 and post-operative AKI has not been studied in ATAAD patients. This study aimed to explore the possibility of using serum TLR4 levels to predict AKI and 30-day mortality in patients undergoing ATAAD surgery. Methods: A prospective, single-center cohort study was conducted and enrolled a total of 64 patients undergoing ATAAD surgery. The level of serum TLR4 was measured and compared before and within 24 hours after the completion of surgery. Results: Thirty-five (54.7%) patients developed AKI, including 7 (10.9%) diagnosed with severe AKI (Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) stage 3). TLR4 levels at 0-hour,1-hour, 3-hour, and 6-hour after intensive care unit (ICU) admission were significantly different between patients with or without AKI. Further analysis showed that the difference was most significant at 0-hour after ICU admission which corresponded to an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.886 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.800 to 0.973). For severe AKI, the AUC of TLR4 was the highest with 0.923 (0.852 to 0.995) at 1-hour after ICU admission. TLR4 levels before surgery and at 0-hour, 1-hour, as well as 3-hour after ICU admission were significantly different between survivors and non-survivors. Furthermore, we found that the serum level of TLR4 upon ICU admission could be used to predict the 30-day mortality with AUC of 0.805 (0.648 to 0.962). Conclusions: Serum TLR4 levels can be used as a biomarker to predict the occurrence of AKI and 30-day mortality in patients undergoing ATAAD surgery. Abstract Pin1, a polypeptide proline isomerase parvulin, plays a key role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), common tumors and cancers. Two conservative histidine residues, His59 and His157, are important for maintaining the stability of the PPIase domain. Hence multiple spectral and computational techniques were performed to investigate the potential mechanism of two histidine residues. Thermal denaturation indicated that both residues His59 and His157 are not sensitive to the lower temperatures, while residue His59 is more sensitive to the higher temperatures than residue His157. Acidic denaturation suggested that influences of both residues His59 and His157 to acidic stability were the difference from Pin1-WT. ANS and RLS spectra hinted that there was no significant effect on hydrophobic change and aggregation by histidine mutations. The GndHCl-induced denaturation implied that residues His59 and His157 contributed the most to the chemical stability. MD simulations revealed that residues His59 and His157 mutations resulted in that the hydrogen bond network of the dual histidine motif was destroyed wholly. In summary, these histidine residues play an important role in maintaining the structural stability of the PPIase domain.

In order to reduce switching loss of neutral-point clamped (NPC) three-level inverter (TLI), a switching loss minimized discontinuous PWM (SLMDPWM) strategy is proposed firstly. There are DC offset and AC ripple on the neutral-point (NP) voltage when SLMDPWM is used, which causes an appearance of low frequency harmonics (LFHs) in the output voltage. Aiming at this drawback, reduced LFHs (RLFHs) method is then proposed. While using RLFHs, the self-equilibrium ability of NP voltage is thus lost. So, active neutral-point voltage control (ANPVC) is also proposed. The performances of NPC TLI with the proposed DPWM and other DPWMs are compared by simulation and experimental results. The results show that switching loss, LFHs can be reduced significantly and the NP voltage can be controlled within an allowable range. Therefore, the multiple control objectives of reduced switching loss, no LFHs and allowable NP voltage are achieved.

Objectives: To improve the mouse model of relief for unilateral ureteral obstruction (RUUO) and explore the pathological process of renal fibrosis after the obstruction was relieved. Methods: C57BL/6 mice in model group were randomly divided into RUUO group, improved RUUO group, and UUO group. After leaving Unilateral Ureteral Obstruction (UUO) for 3 days, the obstruction was released by reimplantation way in RUUO group and in reimplantation + catheter way in improved RUUO group. C57BL/6 mice in observation group were randomly divided into 1d RUUO group, 3d RUUO group, 7d RUUO group, and 14d RUUO group. Three days after UUO, the obstruction was released by reimplantation + catheter in four groups. We detected the renal volume, H&E, Masson staining, and immunohistochemistry of kidney pathology on the seventh day after RUUO in model group and on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, and 14th day after RUUO in observation group. Results: Comparing with mice in RUUO group, mice in improved RUUO group had lower renal volume, tubular damage score, and collagen area percentage. After the obstruction was relieved, the renal volume decreased gradually within 2 weeks. The tubular damage score in 7d RUUO group was lower than that in 1d RUUO and 3d RUUO group. However, the tubular damage score in 14d RUUO group was higher than that in 7d RUUO group. The tendency of collagen area percentage and α-SMA IOD value were consistent with the tubular damage score. Conclusions: Using the method of reimplantation + catheter, a reliable mice model of RUUO can be got. After RUUO, the de-obstructed kidneys are still in damage and fibrosis state.

Wind regime is one of the main natural factors controlling the evolution and distribution of aeolian sand landforms, and sand drift potential (DP) is usually used to study the capacity of aeolian sand transport. The Badain Jaran Desert (BJD) is located where polar cold air frequently enters China. Based on wind data of eight nearby meteorological stations, this research is intended to explore the temporal variation and spatial distribution features of wind speed and DP using linear regression and cumulative anomaly method, and reveal the relationship between atmospheric circulation and wind speed with correlation analysis. We found that the wind speed and frequency of sand-blowing wind in the BJD decreased significantly during 1971–2016, and the wind speed obviously mutated in 1987. The regional wind speed change was affected by the Asian polar vortex, the northern hemisphere polar vortex and the Tibet Plateau circulation. The wind rose of the annual sand-blowing wind in this region was the “acute bimodal” type. Most of the annual wind directions clustered into the W-NW, and the prevailing wind direction was WNW. During 1971–2016, the annual DP, the resultant drift potential (RDP) and the directional variability (PDP/DP) in the desert showed an obvious downtrend, with a “cliff-like” decline in the 1980s and relative stable fluctuation thereafter. The BJD was under a low-energy wind environment with the acute bimodal wind regime. Wind speed, sand-blowing wind frequency and DP were high in the northeast and low in the southwest.

Summary: Protein drugs own a large share in the market and hold great prospects for the treatment of many diseases. However, the available protein drugs are limited to the extracellular target, owing to the inefficient transduction and activity modulation of proteins targeting intracellular environment. In this study, we constructed ATP-charged platforms to overcome the above-mentioned barriers for cancer theranostics. The phenylboronic acid-modified polycations (PCD) were synthesized to assemble with enzymes and shield its activity in the blood circulation. When the PCD nanoclusters reached tumor site, they effectively transported the enzymes into the cells, followed by recovering its catalytic activity after being charged with ATP. Importantly, the cascaded enzyme systems (GOx&HRPA) selectively induced starvation therapy as well as photoacoustic imaging of tumor. In this work, Cr2O3 nanoparticles, and SnO2 nanofibers were fabricated by a sol–gel process and an electrospinning method, respectively. Gas sensitive materials with high sensitivity to C2H2 gas were obtained by coating Cr2O3 nanoparticles on SnO2 nanofibers. The prepared Cr2O3 nanoparticle-coated SnO2 nanofibers (Cr2O3 NPs. coated SnO2 NFs.) were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and the gas sensing behaviors to C2H2 were studied. The Cr2O3 NPs. coated SnO2 NFs. exhibited low optimal operating temperature, high sensing response, excellent response-recovery time, and long-term stability to C2H2. The optimal operating temperature of the measured material to 20 ppm C2H2 was about 220°C and the C2H2 concentration had a good linear relationship with the response value when the concentration was 60 ppm. In addition, a reasonable gas sensing mechanism was proposed which may enhance the gas sensing performances for the Cr2O3 NPs. coated SnO2 NFs. to C2H2.

Flooding is one of the most destructive natural events that severely damage the ground and inundate underground infrastructure. Subway systems in metropolitan areas are susceptible to flooding, which may be exacerbated when land subsidence occurs. However, previous studies have focused on flood risk evaluation on regional/watershed-scales and land subsidence monitoring in plains, instead of on subway flood risk evaluation and how land subsidence aggravates the flood risk in subway systems. Using the proposed risk indicators and field survey data, we present a method assessing the flood risk of metropolitan subway systems under a subsidence condition based on the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) combined with a geographic information system (GIS). We use the regional risk level within the 500 m buffer zone of the subway line to depict the flood risk of the subway system. The proposed method was used to evaluate the flood risk of the Beijing subway system. The results show that the flood risks of the Beijing subway show a ring-like distribution pattern—risk levels decreasing from the central urban area to the suburbs. Very high and high risks are mainly located within third and fourth ring roads, accounting for 63.58% (29.40 km2) and 63.83% (81.19 km2) of the total area. Land subsidence exacerbated the Beijing subway system’s flood risk level—the moderate to very high risk increased by 46.88 km2 (16.33%), indicating that land subsidence is an essential factor affecting the flood risk level of subway systems. In addition to enhancing flood warnings, future subway flooding could be reduced by elevating the height of the stations’ exit (entrance) and installing water stop plates and watertight doors. This study is of great significance for flood warning and prevention in the Beijing subway system; it provides a theoretical basis for flood risk evaluation in other metropolitan areas.

Built-up land in floodplains (BLF) is a driver and a disaster-bearing body of flood risk from a socio-hydrological perspective. The relationship between BLF growth and flood vulnerability is the key to understanding and managing flood risk. However, previous studies have focused more on the relationship between BLF growth and flood exposure, ignoring flood vulnerability. We examined the BLF expansion pattern (patch size and expansion type) in the North China Plain Area from 1975 to 2014 (1975–1990–2000–2014) using GIS (geographic information system)-based landscape analysis and revealed its relationship with flood vulnerability. The results show that the BLF area experienced rapid growth (288.26%) from dispersion to coalescence. Small patches dominated the number and area of BLF growth, and edge-expansion patches were the expansion type with the most area growth. We discovered that flood vulnerability was significantly correlated with the growth in small (R = 0.36, p < 0.01), edge-expansion (R = 0.53, p < 0.01), and outlying patches (R = 0.51, p < 0.01). Large patches were not significantly correlated with flood vulnerability (R = 0.18, p > 0.1), but there was a negative trend. Infilling patch growth was significantly associated with flood vulnerability over a long period (R = 0.27, p < 0.05). In addition, we suggest nature-based soft adaptations or village merging for small patches and outlying patches. Our findings have important scientific significance for adequately understanding the interplay between BLF growth and flood risk. It has practical implications for the formulation of integrated flood risk management strategy and the sustainable development of floodplains.

Tin oxide SnO2-based gas sensors have been widely used for detecting typical fault characteristic gases extracted from power transformer oil, namely, H2, CO, CO2, CH4, C2H2, C2H4, and C2H6, due to the remarkable advantages of high sensitivity, fast response, long-term stability, and so on. Herein, we present an overview of the recent significant improvement in fabrication and application of high performance SnO2-based sensors for detecting these fault characteristic gases. Promising materials for the sensitive and selective detection of each kind of fault characteristic gas have been identified. Meanwhile, the corresponding sensing mechanisms of SnO2-based gas sensors of these fault characteristic gases are comprehensively discussed. In the final section of this review, the major challenges and promising developments in this domain are also given.

The detection of partial discharge and analysis of the composition and content of sulfur hexafluoride SF6 gas components are important to evaluate the operating state and insulation level of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) equipment. This paper reported a novel sensing material made of pure ZnO and NiO-decorated ZnO nanoflowers which were synthesized by a facile and environment friendly hydrothermal process for the detection of SF6 decomposition byproducts. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to characterize the structural and morphological properties of the prepared gas-sensitive materials. Planar-type chemical gas sensors were fabricated and their gas sensing performances toward the SF6 decomposition byproducts SO2, SO2F2, and SOF2 were systemically investigated. Interestingly, the sensing behaviors of the fabricated ZnO nanoflowers-based sensor to SO2, SO2F2, and SOF2 gases can be obviously enhanced in terms of lower optimal operating temperature, higher gas response and shorter response-recovery time by introducing NiO. Finally, a possible gas sensing mechanism for the formation of the p–n junctions between NiO and ZnO is proposed to explain the enhanced gas response. All results demonstrate a promising approach to fabricate high-performance gas sensors to detect SF6 decomposition byproducts.

The goal of this study was to identify mutations in 25 known causative genes in 47 unrelated Chinese families with cone-rod dystrophy (CORD).Forty-seven probands from unrelated families with CORD were recruited. Genomic DNA prepared from leukocytes was analyzed by whole exome sequencing. Variants in the 25 genes were selected and then validated by Sanger sequencing.Fourteen potential pathogenic mutations, including nine novel and five known, were identified in 10 of the 47 families (21.28%). Homozygous, compound heterozygous, and hemizygous mutations were detected in three, four, or three families, respectively. The 14 mutations in the 10 families were distributed among CNGB3 (three families), PDE6C (two families), ABCA4 (one family), RPGRIP1 (one family), RPGR (two families), and CACNA1F (one family).This study provides a brief view on mutation spectrum of the 25 genes in a Chinese cohort with CORD. Identification of novel mutations enriched our understanding of variations in these genes and their associated phenotypes. To our knowledge, this is the first systemic exome-sequencing analysis of all of the 25 CORD-associated genes.
