1. Two successive EUV waves and a transverse oscillation of a quiescent prominence

Abstract

In this paper, we carry out multiwavelength observations of two successive extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) waves originating from active region (AR) NOAA 13575 and a transverse oscillation of a columnar quiescent prominence on 2024 February 9. A hot channel eruption generates an X3.4 class flare and the associated full-halo coronal mass ejection (CME), which drives the first EUV wave front (WF1) at a speed of $\sim$835 km s$^{-1}$. WF1 propagates in the southeast direction and interacts with the prominence, causing an eastward displacement of the prominence immediately. Then, a second EUV wave front (WF2) is driven by a coronal jet at a speed of $\sim$831 km s$^{-1}$. WF2 follows WF1 and decelerates from $\sim$788 km s$^{-1}$ to $\sim$603 km s$^{-1}$ before arriving at and touching the prominence. After reaching the maximum displacement, the prominence turns back and swings for 1$-$3 cycles. The transverse oscillation of horizontal polarization is most evident in 304 {\AA}. The initial displacement amplitude, velocity in the plane of the sky, period, and damping time fall in the ranges of 12$-$34 Mm, 65$-$143 km s$^{-1}$, 18$-$27 minutes, and 33$-$108 minutes, respectively. There are strong correlations among the initial amplitude, velocity, period, and height of the prominence. Abstract

Whilst multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs) remain a promising class of materials owing to several attractive mechanical properties, their corrosion performance is also unique. In this concise review, we present an emerging overview of some of the general features related to MPEA corrosion, following a decade of work in the field. This includes highlighting some of the key aspects related to the electrochemical phenomena in MPEA corrosion, and the relevant future works required for a holistic mechanistic understanding. In addition, a comprehensive database of the reported corrosion performance of MPEAs is presented, based on works reported to date. The database is assembled to also allow users to undertake machine learning or their own data analysis, with a parsed representation of alloy composition, test electrolyte, and corrosion related parameters.

Abstract

Studies on the dynamics of solar filaments have significant implications for understanding their formation, evolution, and eruption, which are of great importance for space weather warning and forecasting. The H$\alpha$ Imaging Spectrograph (HIS) onboard the recently launched Chinese H$\alpha$ Solar Explorer (CHASE) can provide full-disk solar H$\alpha$ spectroscopic observations, which bring us an opportunity to systematically explore and analyze the plasma dynamics of filaments. The dramatically increased observation data require automate processing and analysis which are impossible if dealt with manually. In this paper, we utilize the U-Net model to identify filaments and implement the Channel and Spatial Reliability Tracking (CSRT) algorithm for automated filament tracking. In addition, we use the cloud model to invert the line-of-sight velocity of filaments and employ the graph theory algorithm to extract the filament spine, which can advance our understanding of the dynamics of filaments. 4. Can Channels be Fully Inferred Between Two Antenna Panels?

Abstract

This letter considers a two-panel massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system, where the base station (BS) is equipped with two antenna panels that may use different frequency bands for communication. By exploiting the geometric relationships between antenna panels, efficient channel inference methods across antenna panels are proposed to reduce the overhead of real-time channel estimation. Four scenarios are considered, namely far-field free-space, near-field free-space, multi-path sharing far-field scatterers, and multi-path sharing near-field scatterers. For both far-field and near-field free-space scenarios, we show that the channel of one panel can be fully inferred from that of the other panel, as long as the multi-path components (MPCs) composing the channel can be resolved. On the other hand, for the multi-path scenarios sharing far-field or near-field scatterers, only the angles or range of angles of the MPCs can be inferred, respectively. Abstract

We discuss applications of the study of the new and barely explored class of changing-look (CL) narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxies and comment on their detection with the space mission SVOM (Space Variable Objects Monitor). We highlight the case of NGC 1566, which is outstanding in many respects, for instance as one of the nearest known CL AGN undergoing exceptional outbursts. Its NLS1 nature is discussed, and we take it as a nearby prototype for systems that could be discovered and studied in the near future, including with SVOM. Finally, we briefly examine the broader implications and applications of CL events in NLS1 galaxies and show that such systems, once discovered in larger numbers, will greatly advance our understanding of the physics of the environment of rapidly growing supermassive black holes. Abstract

The Fusion Evaluated Nuclear Data Library (FENDL) is a comprehensive and validated collection of nuclear cross section data coordinated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Nuclear Data Section (NDS). FENDL assembles the best nuclear data for fusion applications selected from available nuclear data libraries and has been under development for decades. FENDL contains sub-libraries for incident neutron, proton, and deuteron cross sections including general purpose and activation files used for particle transport and nuclide inventory calculations. We describe the history, selection of evaluations for the various sub-libraries (neutron, proton, deuteron) with the focus on transport and reactor dosimetry applications, the processing of the nuclear data for application codes, and the development of the TENDL-2017 library which is the currently recommended activation library for FENDL. We briefly describe the IAEA IRDFF library as the recommended library for dosimetry fusion applications. We also present work on validation of the neutron sub-library using a variety of fusion relevant computational and experimental benchmarks. A variety of cross section libraries are used for the validation work including FENDL-2.1, FENDL-3.1d, FENDL-3.2, ENDF/B-VIII.0, and JEFF-3.2 with the emphasis on the FENDL libraries. The results of the experimental validation showed that the performance of FENDL-3.2b is at least as good and in most cases better than FENDL-2.1. Future work will consider improved evaluations developed by the International Nuclear Data Evaluation Network (INDEN). Additional work will be needed to investigate differences in gas production in structural materials. Covariance matrices need to be updated to support the development of fusion technology. Abstract

Stellar and black hole feedback heat and disperse surrounding cold gas clouds, launching gas flows off circumnuclear and galactic disks and producing a dynamic interstellar medium. On large scales bordering the cosmic web, feedback drives enriched gas out of galaxies and groups, seeding the intergalactic medium with heavy elements. In this way, feedback shapes galaxy evolution by shutting down star formation and ultimately curtailing the growth of structure after the peak at redshift 2-3. To understand the complex interplay between gravity and feedback, we must resolve both the key physics within galaxies and map the impact of these processes over large scales, out into the cosmic web. The Advanced X-ray Imaging Satellite (AXIS) is a proposed X-ray probe mission for the 2030s with arcsecond spatial resolution, large effective area, and low background. AXIS will untangle the interactions of winds, radiation, jets, and supernovae with the surrounding ISM across the wide range of mass scales and large volumes driving galaxy evolution and trace the establishment of feedback back to the main event at cosmic noon., Comment: 29 pages, 18 figures; this white paper is part of a series commissioned for the AXIS Probe mission concept

Recently, neoadjuvant immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), combined with chemotherapy has shown promise in the treatment of locally advanced NSCLC. For NSCLC invading the main bronchus, sleeve resection has become the preferred modality to avoid pneumonectomy and reserve more cardiac or pulmonary function and to reduce postoperative morbidity and mortality. However, there has been a paucity of evidence to evaluate the safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy on bronchial-vascular reconstruction owing to the limited number of patients treated by sleeve lobectomy. Despite promising initial results, key knowledge gaps remain, including the impact on bronchial-vascular reconstruction, biomarkers predictive of ICI response, and the potential for specific perioperative complications associated with neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy in the context of sleeve resection. Based on NPS, a predictive nomogram was developed to estimate the long-term survival probabilities of patients with TNBC post-surgery.Patients and Methods: We retrospectively examined the clinical records of 223 women with TNBC treated at Ningbo Medical Center, Lihuili Hospital between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2020. Blood tests and biochemical analyses were conducted before surgery. The prognostic nutritional index (PNI), controlling nutritional status (CONUT), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, and NPS were determined based on blood-related markers. A Kaplan-Meier survival analysis assessed the association between NPS, PNI, CONUT score, overall survival (OS), and breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS). Predictive accuracy was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and C index. The patients were randomly divided into the training and the validation group (6:4 ratio). A nomogram prediction model was developed and evaluated using the R Software for Statistical Computing (RMS) package.Results: NPS outperformed other scores in predicting inflammation outcomes. Patients with an elevated NPS had a poorer prognosis (P< 0.001). Lymph node ratio (LNR), surgical method, postoperative chemotherapy, and NPS independently predicted OS, whereas M stage, LNR, and NPS independently predicted BCSS outcome. The OS and BCSS predicted by the nomogram model aligned well with the actual OS and BCSS. The decision curve analysis showed significant clinical utility for the nomogram model.Conclusion: In this study, NPS was an important prognostic indicator for patients with TNBC. The nomogram prognostic model based on NPS outperformed other prognostic scores for predicting patient prognosis. The model demonstrated a clear stratification ability for patient prognosis, which emphasized the potential benefits of early intervention for high-risk patients.Plain Language Summary: In this study, we aimed to understand how the Naples prognostic score (NPS) scoring system could predict the prognosis for patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). This study explored the validity of applying lumbar bone mineral density (LBMD) standards to thoracic vertebrae (T8-T10) for osteoporosis detection during CT lung cancer screenings. This study investigated the utility of thoracic BMD (BMD-T8-T10) for detecting osteoporosis in older persons during CT lung cancer screening.Methods: We studied 701 participants who underwent QCT scans for both LBMD and BMD-T8-T10. Osteoporosis was diagnosed using ACR criteria based on LBMD. We determined BMD-T8-T10 thresholds via a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and translated BMD-T8+T9+T10 to LBMD (TTBMD) using linear regression. Kappa test was used to evaluate the accuracy of BMD-T8-T10 thresholds and TTBMD in diagnosing osteoporosis.Results: Raw BMD-T8-T10 poorly identified osteoporosis (kappa = 0.51). ROC curve analysis identified BMD-T8-T10 thresholds for osteopenia (138 mg/cm3) and osteoporosis (97 mg/cm3) with areas under the curve of 0.97 and 0.99, respectively. We normalized BMD-T8-T10 to TTBMD based on the formula: TTBMD = 0.9 × BMD-T8-T10 - 2.56. These thresholds (kappa = 0.74) and TTBMD performed well in detecting osteoporosis/osteopenia (kappa = 0.74).Conclusion: Both calculating BMD-T8-T10 threshold (138.0 mg/cm3 for osteopenia and 97 mg/cm3 for osteoporosis) and normalizing BMD-T8-T10 to LBMD demonstrated good performance in identifying osteoporosis in older adults during CT lung cancer screening.Keywords: quantitative computed tomography, thoracic vertebral bone mineral density, osteoporosis, Computed tomography, lung cancer

Abstract

The Lobster Eye Imager for Astronomy (LEIA), a pathfinder of the Wide-field X-ray Telescope of the Einstein Probe (EP) mission, was successfully launched onboard the SATech-01 satellite of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on 27 July 2022. In this paper, we introduce the design and on-ground test results of the LEIA instrument. Using state-of-the-art Micro-Pore Optics (MPO), a wide field-of-view (FoV) of 346 square degrees (18.6 degrees * 18.6 degrees) of the X-ray imager is realized. An optical assembly composed of 36 MPO chips is used to focus incident X-ray photons, and four large-format complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensors, each of 6 cm * 6 cm, are used as the focal plane detectors. The instrument has an angular resolution of 4 - 8 arcmin (in FWHM) for the central focal spot of the point spread function, and an effective area of 2 - 3 cm2 at 1 keV in essentially all the directions within the field of view. The detection passband is 0.5 - 4 keV in the soft X-rays and the sensitivity is 2 - 3 * 10-11 erg s-1 cm-2 (about 1 mini-Crab) at 1,000 second observation. The total weight of LEIA is 56 kg and the power is 85 W. The satellite, with a design lifetime of 2 years, operates in a Sun-synchronous orbit of 500 km with an orbital period of 95 minutes. LEIA is paving the way for future missions by verifying in flight the technologies of both novel focusing imaging optics and CMOS sensors for X-ray observation, and by optimizing the working setups of the instrumental parameters. In addition, LEIA is able to carry out scientific observations to find new transients and to monitor known sources in the soft X-ray band, albeit limited useful observing time available., Comment: Accepted by RAA

In various EVs, tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (TEVs) are secreted by different tumor cells and are abundant in many molecular components, such as proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates. TEVs play a crucial role in forming and advancing various cancer processes. Therefore, TEVs are regarded as promising biomarkers for the early detection of cancer in liquid biopsy. However, the currently developed TEV detection methods still face several key scientific problems that need to be solved, such as low sensitivity, poor specificity, and poor accuracy. To overcome these limitations, DNA walkers have emerged as one of the most popular nanodevices that exhibit better signal amplification capability and enable highly sensitive and specific detection of the analytes. Due to their unique properties of high directionality, flexibility, and efficiency, DNA walkers hold great potential for detecting TEVs. This paper provides an introduction to EVs and DNA walker, additionally, it summarizes recent advances in DNA walker-based detection of TEVs (2018– 2024). The review highlights the close relationship between TEVs and DNA walkers, aims to offer valuable insights into TEV detection and to inspire the development of reliable, efficient, simple, and innovative methods for detecting TEVs based on DNA walker in the future. The aim of this study was to measure and explore the homesickness of Chinese elderly.Methods: A total of 355 non-local Chinese elderly in Shenzhen were recruited to measure demographic information and homesickness. and tested for reliability and validity. Patterns and influences of homesickness among Chinese elderly were explored through latent profile analysis and One-way ANOVA on the basis of EHQ.Results: A three-factor structure was verified in the 19-item elderly homesickness questionnaire (EHQ), namely “positive contact”, “refusal to separate” and “homesickness behavior”. The EHQ reports high validity and reliability. Chinese elderly had a high degree of homesickness, and homesickness among Chinese elderly varied significantly across variables such as age, occupation, and education level. Four homesickness patterns were found in Chinese elderly, named low homesick group, moderate homesick group, middle-high homesick group, and high homesick group. Coming from rural/urban areas and living with grandchildren are factors that affect classification.Conclusion: The present study reveals the high validity and reliability of the EHQ among Chinese elderly. The Chinese elderly reported high levels of homesickness, which varied significantly across levels of demographic factors. Four patterns of homesickness were found among the Chinese elderly, coming from rural/urban areas and living with grandchildren are the factors that affect classification. There may be a masking of the male contribution to the main effect due to the larger female sample.Keywords: homesickness, elderly, questionnaire development

This study aims to establish a new scoring system for the accurate diagnosis of ALL damage.Methods: The imaging data of the consecutive patients was measured and scored by four radiologists. Intraoperative exploration was performed by three surgeons. The crude and adjusted odds ratios (cOR and aOR) and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) were constructed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the scoring system.Results: A total of 255 patients with cervical spine trauma were included in this study. There was no statistical difference in the relationship between demographics and ALL injuries (P > 0.05). Thickness of prevertebral soft tissue (aOR = 11.922, P = 0.004), intervertebral disk angle (aOR = 13.21, P = 0.002), avulsion fracture of the anterior edge of the vertebral body (aOR = 13.844, P = 0.029), ALL disrupted in T1-weighted sequence (aOR = 18.349, P < 0.001), and high signal area in T2-weighted sequence (aOR = 20.898, P = 0.002) had significantly higher diagnostic accuracy. The scoring system’s sensitivity and specificity were 94.0% and 88.1%, respectively, and the accuracy was 90.8%.Conclusion: The study established a new scoring system for ALL injuries based on the analysis of a series of clinical data and statistics. A total of five scoring items, a total score of 7 points, and an ALL injury may be diagnosed when the score is not less than 3 points. A total of 269 adult patients (18– 94 years old) with chronic wounds residing in Wuxi, China participated in this study. Participants completed the Chinese version of the Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire, 16-item Chinese version of the Fatalism Scale, and Self-Management Scale of Chronic Wound Patients. We conducted correlation and mediation analyses using SPSS 27.0 and PROCESS 4.0.Results: The results indicated family resilience was a significant positive predictor of self-management (β = 0.7101, p < 0.0001), and the pathway between family resilience and self-management was partially mediated by fatalism (Effect = 0.1432, 95% confidence interval [0.0625, 0.2341]).Conclusion: The results indicated that incorporating spiritual interventions into future person-centered self-management programs could align with the motivation of patients with chronic wounds and their families, and reduce the negative impact of fatalism on health outcomes.Keywords: chronic wounds, fatalism, family resilience, self-management, mediation

We hypothesized that the elevation of serum cortisol or ACTH levels may be correlated with the severity of the acute gastrointestinal injury grade (AGI).Methods: This study was an observational study. All patients were admitted to the ICU between 2019.1.1 and 2020.1.1.. Serum ACTH and cortisol levels and clinical data were collected from the electronic medication records. The highest AGI grade during the ICU stay was the major endpoint to observe. The patient was treated in a standard procedure in the ICU.Results: A total of 235 patients were included in our study, 132 of whom developed AGI. In univariate regression, cortisol level was found to be a risk factor for 28-day mortality. Serum cortisol and ACTH levels correlated with APACHE II, AGI grade, PCT, and CRP levels. Spearman analysis and partial correlation analysis indicated that cortisol and ACTH levels were correlated with AGI grade.Conclusion: The ACTH and cortisol levels were positively correlated with the higher severity of AGI grade. Patients who recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection were eligible for enrollment. Peripheral blood samples were taken prior to the restart of intravenous anti-cancer therapy to examine hematologic parameters.Results: A total of 131 patients were included in the final analysis. Cough (74.0%), fever (62.6%), and expectoration (46.6%) were identified as the most presenting symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection in breast cancer. The average nucleic acid conversion time and delayed treatment time was 13.4 days and 13.9 days, respectively. 25. cardiGAN: A Generative Adversarial Network Model for Design and Discovery of Multi Principal Element Alloys

Abstract

Multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs), inclusive of high entropy alloys (HEAs), continue to attract significant research attention owing to their potentially desirable properties. Although MPEAs remain under extensive research, traditional (i.e. empirical) alloy production and testing is both costly and time-consuming, partly due to the inefficiency of the early discovery process which involves experiments on a large number of alloy compositions. It is intuitive to apply machine learning in the discovery of this novel class of materials, of which only a small number of potential alloys has been probed to date. In this work, a proof-of-concept is proposed, combining generative adversarial networks (GANs) with discriminative neural networks (NNs), to accelerate the exploration of novel MPEAs. By applying the GAN model herein, it was possible to directly generate novel compositions for MPEAs, and to predict their phases. To verify the predictability of the model, alloys designed by the model are presented and a candidate produced; as validation. This suggests that the model herein offers an approach that can significantly enhance the capacity and efficiency of development of novel MPEAs.

Herein, we report a novel anti-biofilm strategy of mucus-permeable sonodynamic therapy (mp-SDT) based on ultrasound (US)-mediated amphotericin B-loaded PEGylated PLGA nanoparticles (AmB-NPs) to overcome mucus barrier and enable the eradication of C. albicans biofilm.Methods: AmB-NPs were fabricated using ultrasonic double emulsion method, and their physicochemical and sonodynamic properties were determined. The mucus and biofilm permeability of US-mediated AmB-NPs were further investigated. Moreover, the anti-biofilm effect of US-mediated AmB-NPs treatment was thoroughly evaluated on mucus barrier abiotic biofilm, epithelium-associated biotic biofilm, and C. albicans-induced rabbit vaginal biofilms model. In addition, the ultrastructure and secreted cytokines of epithelial cells and the polarization of macrophages were analyzed to investigate the regulation of local cellular immune function by US-mediated AmB-NPs treatment.Results: Polymeric AmB-NPs display excellent sonodynamic performance with massive singlet oxygen (1O2) generation. US-mediated AmB-NPs could rapidly transport through mucus and promote permeability in biofilms, which exhibited excellent eradicating ability to C. albicans biofilms. Furthermore, in the vaginal epithelial cells (VECs)-associated C. albicans biofilm model, the mp-SDT scheme showed the strongest biofilm eradication effect, with up to 98% biofilm re-formation inhibition rate, improved the ultrastructural damage, promoted local immune defense enhancement of VECs, and regulated the polarization of macrophages to the M1 phenotype to enhance macrophage-associated antifungal immune responses. In addition, mp-SDT treatment exhibited excellent therapeutic efficacy against C. albicans-induced rabbit vaginitis, promoted the recovery of mucosal epithelial ultrastructure, and contributed to the reshaping of a healthier vaginal microbiome.Conclusion: The synergistic anti-biofilm strategies of mp-SDT effectively eradicated C. albicans biofilm and simultaneously regulated local antifungal immunity enhancement, which may provide a new approach to treat refractory drug-resistant biofilm-associated mucosal candidiasis.Keywords: C. albicans biofilm, PEGylated nanoparticles, mucus penetration, sonodynamic therapy

One of the main obstacles to effective treatment is the heterogeneous microenvironment of TB granulomas. This study aimed to investigate the potential of a hypoxic remission-based strategy to enhance the outcome of tuberculosis treatment when implemented in combination with ultrasound.Methods: A PLGA nanoparticle (LEV@CAT-NPs) loaded with levofloxacin (LEV) and catalase (CAT) was fabricated by a double emulsification method, and its physical characteristics, oxygen production capacity, drug release capacity, and biosafety were thoroughly investigated. The synergistic therapeutic effects of ultrasound (US)-mediated LEV@CAT-NPs were evaluated using an experimental mouse model of subcutaneous tuberculosis granuloma induced by Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) as a substitute for MTB.Results: LEV@CAT-NPs exhibited excellent oxygen production capacity, biosafety, and biocompatibility. Histological analysis revealed that ultrasound-mediated LEV@CAT-NPs could effectively remove bacteria from tuberculous granulomas, significantly alleviate the hypoxia state, reduce the necrotic area and inflammatory cells within the granuloma, and increase the penetration of dyes in granuloma tissues. The combined treatment also reduced the serum levels of inflammatory cytokines (eg, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8), and significantly downregulated the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These results suggested that the synergistic treatment of ultrasound-mediated LEV@CAT-NPs effectively eradicated the bacterial infection and reversed the hypoxic microenvironment of tuberculous granulomas, further promoting tissue repair.Conclusion: This study provides a non-invasive and new avenue for treating refractory tuberculosis infections. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of food on the single-dose pharmacokinetic properties of TMF.Patients and Methods: In this open-label, randomized, crossover study, after an overnight fast, eligible subjects received a single 25 mg dose of TMF tablet, either under fasted conditions or following consumption of a high-fat, high-calorie meal, followed by a two-week washout period. Blood samples were collected until 144 h after administration. TMF and its metabolite, tenofovir (TFV), were analyzed using validated liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry methods. The geometric mean ratio (GMR) and the corresponding 90% confidence interval (CI) values of AUC0–t, AUC0–∞, and Cmax were acquired for analysis. The absence of an effect of food was indicated if the 90% CI values were within the predefined equivalence limits of 80%– 125%. Safety and tolerability were also assessed.Results: For TMF, adjusted GMR (90% CI) values for the fed versus fasted states were 150.28% (125.36%– 180.16%), 158.24% (130.42%– 192.00%), and 57.65% (45.68%– 72.76%) for AUC0–t, AUC0–∞, and Cmax, respectively. For TFV, the GMR (90% CI) of Cmax was 82.00% (74.30%– 90.49%) after administration under fed conditions, slightly outside the bioequivalence boundary of 80%– 125%, while the corresponding values for AUC0–t and AUC0–∞ were within range. The absorption of TMF was delayed by food, with median Tmax values of 0.33 and 1.00 h in fasted and fed conditions, respectively. The adverse events observed in subjects were all mild.Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that TMF tablets were well-tolerated in healthy volunteers. When TMF tablets were taken with food, Tmax was delayed and exposures of TMF and TFV were higher than under fasted conditions. Abstract

In the lacunar spinel GaV4S8, the interplay of spin, charge, and orbital degrees of freedom produces a rich phase diagram that includes an unusual Neel-type skyrmion phase composed of molecular spins. To provide insight into the interactions underlying this complex phase diagram, we study the spin excitations in GaV4S8 through inelastic neutron scattering measurements on polycrystalline and single-crystal samples. Using linear spin-wave theory, we describe the spin-wave excitations using a model where V4 clusters decorate an FCC lattice. The effective cluster model includes a ferromagnetic interaction and a weaker antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction between the neighboring molecular spins. Abstract

Non-yrast, excited states in neutron-rich $^{186}$W were populated via inelastic-scattering reactions using beams of $^{136}$Xe nuclei accelerated to 725 and 800 MeV. Levels populated in the reactions were investigated via particle-$ \gamma $ coincidence techniques using the Gammasphere array of High-Purity Germanium detectors and the compact heavy-ion counter, CHICO2. The $ K^{\pi} = 2 ^{+} $ ($\gamma$), $ K^{\pi} = 0^{+}$ and $ K^{\pi} = 2^{-} $ (octupole) rotational side bands were extended to spins $ 14\hbar $, $ 12\hbar $, and $ 13\hbar $, respectively. A staggering pattern observed in the energies of levels in the $ K^{\pi} = 2^{+} $ band was found to be consistent with a potential that gets softer to vibration in the $ \gamma $ degree of freedom with increasing spin. The odd-even staggering of states in the $ K^{\pi} = 2^{-}$ band was found to exhibit a phase opposite to that seen in the $ \gamma $ band; an effect most probably associated with Coriolis coupling to other, unobserved octupole vibrational bands in $^{186}$W., Comment: 14 pages, 16 figures

Abstract

With the motivation to study how non-magnetic ion site disorder affects the quantum magnetism of Ba3CoSb2O9, a spin-1/2 equilateral triangular lattice antiferromagnet, we performed DC and AC susceptibility, specific heat, elastic and inelastic neutron scattering measurements on single crystalline samples of Ba2.87Sr0.13CoSb2O9 with Sr doping on non-magnetic Ba2+ ion sites. The results show that Ba2.87Sr0.13CoSb2O9 exhibits (i) a two-step magnetic transition at 2.7 K and 3.3 K, respectively; (ii) a possible canted 120-degree spin structure at zero field with reduced ordered moment as 1.24{\mu}B/Co; (iii) a series of spin state transitions for both H // ab-plane and H // c-axis. For H // ab-plane, the magnetization plateau feature related to the up-up-down phase is significantly suppressed; (iv) an inelastic neutron scattering spectrum with only one gapped mode at zero field, which splits to one gapless and one gapped mode at 9 T. All these features are distinctly different from those observed for the parent compound Ba3CoSb2O9, which demonstrates that the non-magnetic ion site disorder (the Sr doping) plays a complex role on the magnetic properties beyond the conventionally expected randomization of the exchange interactions. Abstract

Multi-wavelength simultaneous observations are essential to the constraints on the origin of fast radio bursts (FRBs). However, it is a significant observational challenge due to the nature of FRBs as transients with a radio millisecond duration, which occur randomly in the sky regardless of time and position. Here, we report the search for short-time fast optical bursts in the GWAC archived data associated with FRB 20181130B, which were detected by the Five Hundred Meter Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) and recently reported. No new credible sources were detected in all single GWAC images with an exposure time of 10 s, including image with coverage of the expected arrival time in optical wavelength by taking the high dispersion measurements into account. Our results provide a limiting magnitude of 15.43$\pm0.04$ mag in R band, corresponding to a flux density of 1.66 Jy or 8.35 mag in AB system by assuming that the duration of the optical band is similar to that of the radio band of about 10 ms. This limiting magnitude makes the spectral index of $\alpha<0.367$ from optical to radio wavelength. The possible existence of longer duration optical emission was also investigated with an upper limits of 0.33 Jy (10.10 mag), 1.74 mJy (15.80 mag) and 0.16 mJy (18.39 mag) for the duration of 50 ms, 10 s and 6060 s, respectively. This undetected scenario could be partially attributed to the shallow detection capability, as well as the high inferred distance of FRB 20181130B and the low fluence in radio wavelength. Natural products continue to serve as crucial resources for drug discovery. Among them, Withaferin A (WA), the most active phytocompound extracted from the renowned dietary supplement Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal, exhibits remarkable anti-tumor efficacy. In this manuscript, we aim to comprehensively summarize the pharmacological characteristics of WA as a potential anti-tumor drug candidate, with the objective of contributing to its further development and the discovery of prospective drugs. Through an extensive review of literature from PubMed, Science Direct, and Web of Science, we have gathered substantial evidence showcasing WA’s significant anti-tumor effects against a wide range of cancers in both in vitro and in vivo studies. Mechanistically, WA exerts its anti-tumor influence by inducing cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, autophagy, and ferroptosis. Additionally, it inhibits cell proliferation, cancer stem cells, tumor metastasis, and also suppresses epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and angiogenesis. Several studies have identified direct target proteins of WA, such as vimentin, Hsp90, annexin II and mFAM72A, while BCR-ABL, Mortalin (mtHsp70), Nrf2, and c-MYB are potential targets of WA. Notwithstanding its remarkable anti-tumor efficacy, there are some limitations associated with WA, including potential toxicity and poor oral bioavailability, which need to be addressed when considering it as an anti-tumor candidate agent. Nevertheless, I given its promising anti-tumor attributes, WA remains an encouraging candidate for future drug development. Self-developed Scale of Demographics were used to collect demographic and clinical data, Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), De Jong Gierveld Scale (DJGLS), and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) were used to measure respondents’ depression, anxiety, resilience, loneliness and worry, respectively.Results: The prevalence rate of depression in male patients was significantly higher than in female patients (42.2% versus 31.9%; χ2 = 5.64, p = 0.018). Regression analysis showed that in female patients, depression was associated with anxiety [OR = 1.26, 95% CI (1.16– 1.36), p < 0.001], and resilience [OR = 0.98, 95% CI (0.96– 1.00), p < 0.05], while in male patients, depression was associated with anxiety [OR = 1.24, 95% CI (1.15– 1.33), p < 0.001].Conclusion: This on-site study demonstrates that depression is more frequent in male than female Omicron-infected patients and suggests that sex differences should be considered in prevention and treatment strategies for depression during the Omicron pandemic.Keywords: depression, sex difference, Omicron-infected, China

However, the expression pattern, prognostic value, and treatment response of ZPR1 in pan-cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear.Patients and Methods: Pan-cancer expression profiles and relevant clinical data were acquired from UCSC Xena platform. Pan-cancer expression, epigenetic profile, and clinical correlation analysis for ZPR1 were performed. We next explored the prognostic significance and potential biological functions of ZPR1 in HCC. Furthermore, the relationship between ZPR1 and immune infiltration and treatment response was investigated. Finally, quantitative immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis was applied to assess the correlation of ZPR1 expression and immune microenvironment in HCC tissues using Qupath software.Results: ZPR1 was differentially expressed in most tumor types and significantly up-regulated in HCC. ZPR1 showed hypo-methylated status in most tumors. Pan-cancer correlation analysis indicated that ZPR1 was closely associated with clinicopathological factors and TMB, MSI, and stemness index in HCC. High ZPR1 expression could be an independent risk factor for adverse prognosis in HCC. ZPR1 correlated with immune cell infiltration and therapeutic response. The performance of nomogram was assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, calibration curves and decision curve analysis (DCA).Results: A total of 1019 CHB patients with a median age of 39.0 years were included. Alanine aminotransaminase (ALT, P = 0.018), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (P = 0.013), prothrombin time (P < 0.001), and HBV DNA level (P = 0.030) were identified as independent predictors of significant liver inflammation in the development set. A model namely AGPD-nomogram was developed based on the above parameters. The area under the ROC curve in predicting significant inflammation was 0.765 (95% CI: 0.727– 0.803) and 0.766 (95% CI: 0.711– 0.821) in the development and validation sets, which were significantly higher than other indexes. The AGPD-nomogram had a high predictive value in patients with normal ALT. Moreover, the nomogram was proven to be clinically useful by DCA.Conclusion: A visualized AGPD-nomogram which incorporated routine clinical parameters was proposed to facilitate the prediction of significant liver inflammation in CHB patients. This nomogram had high accuracy in the identification of significant liver inflammation and would be a useful tool for the better management of CHB patients, especially for those with normal ALT.Keywords: chronic hepatitis B, liver inflammation, prediction, nomogram, alanine aminotransferase

The clinical features of children with TBG deficiency and their family members were summarised and the Serpina7 gene mutation was analysed, providing a reference for the differentiation of TBG deficiency.Methods: Thyroid function was detected in TBG deficient patients, and genetic analysis was performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and direct DNA sequencing to detect the characteristics of TBG mutants. Using “thyroxine binding globulin, gene and mutation” as keywords, PubMed (biomedical literature database), Web of Science and other databases were searched for relevant studies to collect and summarise relevant information.Results: The TBG (14.7 μg/mL), 70% triiodothyronine (T3) (< 0.3 nmol/L), total T3 (Tr3) (< 0.05 ng/mL) and thyroxine (T4) (14.72 nmol/L) values were lower than normal, while the thyrotropin (TSH) (2.33 uIU/mL), free T3 (FT3) (1.62 pmol/L), and free T4 (FT4) (11.39 pmol/L) values were normal. These values indicate a TBG partially deficient phenotype. Using PCR amplification and direct sequencing of the target gene, a missense mutation in exon 4 of the Serpina7 gene was found in the patient and the father, and the nucleic acid variant was C.909 (exon 4) g > T; the patient was heterozygous and the father was hemizygous. The literature search retrieved a total of 45 studies, most of which were related to mutations in the Serpina7 gene. The mutation locations included exons, introns, enhancers and promoters, with exons the predominant location. A total of 49 variants of the Serpina7 gene were identified.Conclusion: Serpina7 C.909G (P.L303F) is a mutation acquired from the father by X-linked recessive inheritance. The main clinical features of TBG deficiency patients are low serum T4, T3 and TBG levels, normal TSH, FT3 and FT4 levels, and no clinical manifestations.Keywords: thyroxine-binding globulin, deficiency, genes, mutation

Abstract

Single crystal inelastic neutron scattering is used to study spin wave excitations in the fully polarized state of the frustrated quantum ferro-antiferromagnet BaCdVO(PO$_4$)$_2$. The data analysis is based on a Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian that includes as many distinct nearest-neighbor and next-nearest neighbor interactions as allowed by crystal symmetry. All 8 such exchange constants are obtained in a simultaneous fit to over 150 scans across the dispersion manifold. This establishes a definitive quantitative model of this material.
