Aim: To explore the published evidence describing the impact of short‐notice accreditation assessments on hospitals' patient safety and quality culture. Design: Arksey and O'Malley (2005)'s scoping study framework and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analysis Extension for Scoping reviews (PRISMA‐ScR). Methods: A scoping review was conducted to identify papers that provided an evaluation of short‐notice accreditation processes. All reviewers independently reviewed included papers and thematic analysis methods were used to understand the data. Data Sources: PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, and ProQuest databases were searched to identify papers published after 2000. Results: Totally, 3317 records were initially identified with 64 full‐text studies screened by the reviewers. Five studies were deemed to meet this scoping review's inclusion criteria. All five studies reported variable evidence on the validity of health service or hospital accreditation processes and only three considered the concept of patient safety and quality culture in the context of accreditation. None of the five included studies report the impact of a short‐notice accreditation process on a hospital's patient safety and quality culture. Conclusions: Limited evidence exists to report on the effectiveness of hospital short‐notice accreditation models. No study has been undertaken to understand the impact of short‐notice accreditation on patient safety and quality cultures within hospital settings. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care: Understanding this topic will support improved hospital quality, safety, policy, and governance. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to describe the perception of real teamwork and sustainable quality culture as well as success factors for achieving a sustainable quality culture within an organisation, focusing on top management teams (TMTs). An additional purpose is to explore the relationship between real teamwork and sustainable quality culture. Design/methodology/approach: A mixed-methods design focusing on TMTs was used. Four TMTs were open-sampled and located in different parts of Sweden. The data were collected through questionnaires and focus group discussions between April 2022 and December 2022. Follow-up meetings were thereafter held with the participants. A meta-analysis was conducted of the data from the four TMTs. Findings: Two overarching conclusions of this study were: to follow the developed methodology can be one way to increase TMTs' abilities for real teamwork alongside a sustainable quality culture, and the results also showed the importance of a systems view, emotional commitment and continuous improvement for improving real teamwork and creating a sustainable quality culture. Practical implications: Practical implications were suggestions on how to increase the TMTs' abilities for real teamwork alongside a sustainable quality culture. A deepened understanding of real teamwork and a sustainable quality culture was also achieved by the participants. Originality/value: The novelty of this paper is the use of a new methodology for assessing teamwork and sustainable quality culture. This article examines how university students assess the coordination of the courses their programmes contain and how course coordination affects how content they are with their studies. The study is based on survey data from more than 5700 students, collected through Lund University's Student Barometer. The survey examines the students' views on course coordination based on content, workload, administrative procedures and whether or not teachers of different courses provide coherent information. The analysis shows that the coordination of courses has a significant impact on how students experience their studies. The better the course coordination, the more satisfaction students will get from their studies; and the correlation remains stable when several other factors of importance for student satisfaction are included in the analysis. The conclusion of the study is thus that course coordination clearly contributes to explaining variations in students' appreciation of their university studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Building a culture of quality is vital for sustaining high-quality healthcare, emphasising shared values and continuous improvement. The Quality Equity and Dignity (QED) network was a global initiative working toward this objective, focusing on maternal and newborn health. This paper aims to describe how QED influenced five identified attributes of quality culture in Ethiopia: leadership, people-centered interventions, collaboration, rewards, and ownership towards building and sustaining a culture of quality in healthcare establishments. Methods This qualitative study, conducted at two points six months apart, incorporated data from key informant interviews, observations, and document reviews. It included 18 national and 22 sub-national key informant interviews, seven facility observations, and one technical working group meeting observation. Data analysis was performed using NVivo 12 software, focusing on identified thematic areas related to quality culture. Result Leadership was crucial for building a quality culture in Ethiopia, and the QED network strengthened government leadership structures, although leadership capacity and staff turnover were challenges. QED enhanced people-centered care and data tracking, but the added data focus burdened healthcare workers. Opportunities for collaboration and shared learning were facilitated, although not accessible to all actors. Motivation and rewards encouraged good performance, but addressing intrinsic behavioral change remained a challenge. Conclusion Achieving high-quality healthcare involves more than tools and infrastructure; it requires a cultural shift with behavior change consistently demonstrated at various levels. The QED network faced challenges in building a culture of quality but serves as an exemplary initiative for other networks to learn from.

The smooth implementation of internal quality assurance is challenging: it requires an effective quality culture. The purpose of this research was to explore models of quality culture that are effective enough to be implemented for internal quality assurance. The vice principal, the head of the skill competence programs, the head of the laboratory, technicians, teachers, administrative staff, students, student's parents, businesses, industries, and the workplace were all participating in this study project at Public Vocational School (SMKN) 8 Malang. Adopting the descriptive-qualitative research method, the research found that the role of the principal is influential in developing an effective quality culture by performing transformational and transactional functions. . It was also known that the development of models for quality culture consisted of the phase of optimization (the school principal's coordination with the internal quality assurance team, evaluation of the internal quality assurance implementation, identification of some problems, and preparation for the prioritized work plans) with the support of the development of quality culture at the school); the phase of the preparation for the internal quality assurance (self-analysis and SWOT analysis); the phase of the implementation of internal quality assurance (the establishment of standards, quality mapping, quality improvement planning, and evaluation/audit); and the phase of the evaluation of internal quality assurance performed throughout the processes which include planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling. Eventually, it can be said that models for implementing internal quality assurance at vocational school (SMK) can be integrally formed by the quality culture effectively implemented by the school components. The objective study aims to describe in full and comprehensively related to the implementation of quality culture at Ibnu Chaldun University in Jakarta, the oldest Islamic Higher Education institution in Jakarta. Quality culture is expressed by starting with the development of the Internal Quality Assurance System, independently conducting Internal Quality Audit and External Quality Audit by authorized institutions, Independent Accreditation Institutions, according to the Study Program and the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education. This research was conducted using the Research and Development (R&D) method, developing the Borg and Borg stages, namely the ten Borg steps for Research and Development (R&D), so that in the end the researcher concluded that Quality Culture was created from the commitment of all parties to implement, implement and control the Internal Quality Assurance System in all institutional units that work continuously and collaboratively, so that sustainable quality is created to get the best. The quality of life (QoL) of workers during the Covid-19 pandemic is an important issue that must be considered. Unfortunately, research related to the QoL of workers during the Covid-19 pandemic for the non-health sector is still very limited. Moreover, no one has comprehensively investigated QoL involving not only the perceived threat of Covid-19, Covid-19-related workplace policy, and job insecurity but also digital literacy, perceived organizational support (POS) during Covid-19, quality culture, and safety culture. Therefore, to fill the gap in the literature, this study studied QoL by involving perceived threat of Covid-19, Covid-19 related workplace policy, job insecurity, digital literacy, POS, quality culture, and safety culture. Quantitative research method was carried out in this research. Data collection was conducted through an online survey. The research respondents were 181 non-health sector workers in Indonesia. SEM-PLS was used as an analytical tool. The results showed that QoL was directly and positively affected by POS and safety culture. In addition, QoL was also indirectly affected by Covid-19-related workplace policy, quality culture and safety culture by post. However, several factors, namely the perceived threat of Covid-19, job insecurity, and digital literacy did not have a significant effect on the QoL of non-health sector workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, this research also found that quality culture did not affect Covid-19 related workplace policy and job insecurity. This study aimed to investigate common features and ways of understanding quality culture (QC) within higher education institutions (HEIs) in Nordic countries. While the concept of QC is commonly accepted and often used, its meaning is not always clear. This paper focuses on how Nordic universities frame QC in their internal documentation. The Nordic context was chosen due to the close cooperation on quality issues that characterise HEIs within the Nordic region. The discussion section of this paper outlines QC in relation to quality assurance (QA) among HEIs within the European and Nordic regions. Sixteen universities participated in the study by sharing documents describing their QCs. The data were analysed using qualitative content analysis and discussed from different perspectives, such as regarding how the universities use the concept of QC and how QC is created. Based on the results, a model was created that provides an overview of how QC emerges and how the concept is implemented in documentation. It is hoped that the results will both contribute useful input to the ongoing collaboration on quality issues among HEIs in the Nordic region and will also be useful in enhancing QC at universities in other regions. Through a case study of Jerash University, the study seeks to clarify the impact of internal quality assurance standards in promoting the concept of quality culture. The data are analyzed using both the quantitative and qualitative methods. The study sample includes (7) employers of graduate student, (384) students, and (104) university faculty members. The research design utilizes both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The strategic development plan, yearly reports, and accreditation reports are among the internal papers that the Deanship of Quality and Accreditation used to compile the data for the study's internal analysis of points of strength and shortcomings. A questionnaire with two major sections on quality assurance and quality culture is used to design the study tool, and its validity and stability are confirmed. The study's findings show how quality assurance guidelines might help the University of Jerash foster a culture of excellence. When compared to its contemporaries, the field of strategic planning has the highest average in terms of quality assurance requirements. The study found a connection between quality assurance and quality culture that has a common outcome, and it advocates enhancing channels of communication between the university and students in order to utilize student feedback realistically. The qualitative research study conducted in the Polish higher education context confirms that students' vision of an ideal university strongly embraces the concept of quality as transformation. The enhancement and empowerment are manifested by multiple facets of transformation that the students look for at an ideal university, including intellectual, critical, personal, emotional and physical development. Quality culture and transformative pedagogies form important enablers for operationalising quality as transformation. Purpose: Organizations have released the importance of lean manufacturing practices (LMPs) and total quality management (TQM) in enhancing competitiveness. However, the implementation of LMPs and TQM becomes more complex when discerning the environmental sustainability position. The complexity stems from the fact that LMPs and TQM are more intricate because of cultural differences. Thus, this study aims to tackle the aforementioned phenomenon by investigating the impact of LMPs and TQM on environmental sustainability moderated by quality culture. Design/methodology/approach: A survey was distributed among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Jordan; thus, 315 valid responses were received. Partial least square structural equation modelling was used to analyze the data and test hypotheses. Findings: The findings showed that environmental sustainability was significantly impacted by all the LMP practices except Kanban and all the TQM practices except statistical process control. Moreover, quality culture significantly and negatively moderated the relationship between TQM and environmental sustainability. However, the influence of LMPs on environmental sustainability was not significantly moderated by quality culture. Practical implications: This study has implications for policymakers in SMEs, supply chain managers and academics regarding the importance of LMPs and TQM systems for implementing environmental sustainability and the role of quality culture. Social implications: This study provides guidelines for decision-makers on the pathways that enable them to sustain the environment to safeguard the natural ecosystem and natural resources for upcoming generations. Originality/value: The originality of this study stems from the alignment of LMPs and TQM in enhancing environmental sustainability, taking into consideration the role of quality culture in SMEs, where previous studies failed short to investigate this phenomenon. This paper presents an analysis of quality culture (QC) development in Taiwan which has recently undergone major reforms of quality assurance (QA) policies. The implementation of internal quality assurance (IQA) initiatives has been an indispensable condition to form a QC in higher education which contributes to a fundamental and comprehensive evolution of Taiwanese higher education. To explore the government's policy strategies and transformation of QA approaches, this paper interviews policymakers, QA experts and academics. This paper identifies common features and distinct characteristics of QC in Taiwan's higher education, and its relations to QA mechanisms. These perspectives offer a different way of conceptualising QC in QA policies. AbstractAn organization improves its performance by implementing ISO 9001, but there are not many scientific journals that discuss this. The purpose of this article is to examine the effect of the quality management system (ISO) 9001 on organizational performance to achieve business sustainability. This study examines four variables, namely ISO 9001 certification planning, organizational commitment, application of procedures on organizational performance and quality culture as mediating variable. Data collection was conducted in the form of a survey by e-mailing the questionnaire to 1000 ISO 9001 certified organizations selected using the purpose sampling technique. This research used a closed questionnaire and a Likert scale of 1–5. Data calculation utilized a Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis to distinguish outer and inner model analyses, as well as to test the hypotheses. The results show that ISO 9001 certification planning, organizational commitment, and application of procedures have a significant effect on quality culture. ISO 9001 certification planning and organizational commitment do not have a significant effect on operational performance, but the application of procedures and quality culture significantly influence operational performance. It is clear that an increase in organizational performance greatly influences by ISO 9001 implementation and a quality culture as a mediating variable.

ObjectiveAlthough frontline clinicians are crucial in implementing and spreading innovations, their engagement in quality improvement remains suboptimal. Our goal was to identify facilitators and barriers to the development and engagement of clinicians in quality improvement.DesignA 25-item questionnaire informed by theoretical frameworks was developed, tested and disseminated by email.SettingsMembers and fellows of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare.Participants1010 eligible participants (380 fellows and 647 members).InterventionsNone.Main outcome measuresSelf-efficacy and effectiveness in conducting and leading quality improvement activities.ResultsWe received 212 responses from 50 countries, a response rate of 21%. Dedicated time for quality improvement, mentorship and coaching and a professional quality improvement network were significantly related to higher self-efficacy. Factors enhancing effectiveness were dedicated time for quality improvement, multidisciplinary improvement teams, professional development in quality improvement, ability to select areas for improvement and organizational values and culture. Inadequate time, mentorship, organizational support and access to professional development resources were key barriers. Personal strengths contributing to effectiveness were the ability to identify problems that need to be fixed, reflecting on and learning from experiences and facilitating sharing of ideas. Key quality improvement implementation challenges were adopting new payment models, demonstrating the business case for quality and safety and building a culture of accountability and transparency.ConclusionsOur findings highlight areas that organizations and professional development programs should focus on to promote clinician development and engagement in quality improvement. Barriers related to training, time, mentorship, organizational support and implementation must be concurrently addressed to augment the effectiveness of other approaches.

Quality is a factor that significantly determines the competitiveness and success of any organization on the market in today's business conditions. Customers' increasing degree and level of information, as well as their increasing demands and wishes, have presented organizations with the challenge of ensuring and nurturing top quality. Quality culture is a type of organizational culture that incorporates key assumptions, values, principles, and fundamental concepts of quality management. The findings of a 2022 study in which 21 managers and 80 employees of the company Šinvoz, Zrenjanin took part revealed that managers, on average, expressed more positive attitudes toward the aforementioned claims than employees who were more reserved. Statistically significant differences in the responses of managers and employees were identified in terms of leadership, quality as a key value in the company, focus on the customer, and employee empowerment and participation. These segments received significantly higher ratings from managers, compared to employee ratings. Leadership, working conditions, and employee motivation are the key areas that need to be improved, as they received the lowest average scores. The findings of the research can help leaders and managers make decisions about the quality culture and, more broadly, about the necessary organizational changes.

This study aims to analyze the futurology of education through the cultural understanding of the quality of madrasah Aliyah in Yogyakarta. This research applies qualitative research with the type of case study approach. In collecting data this study uses three techniques, namely: 1) in-depth interview; 2) participant observation, and 3) documentation study. The informants in the study were principals, teachers, educational staff, and development teams. In this study to obtain the validity of the data, triangulation was used. The results showed that the cultivation of quality culture to achieve a glorious educational future in Madrasah Aliyah was carried out by applying educational futurology from a total quality management (TQM) perspective, including continuous improvement, cultural change, reverse organization, maintaining relationships with customers, professionalism and focus on customers, as well as quality of learning.

Background & Objective: To recognize the challenges and obstacles of academic culture in institutionalizing the quality culture in higher education, the Grounded Theory research method helped us to provide a conceptual model in higher education. This model would provide a correct understanding of the challenges and obstacles of academic culture for the beneficiaries. Materials & Methods: The present qualitative study was conducted using Strauss and Corbin's Grounded Theory approach and carried out on 20 clinical and basic science faculty members of Iran's medical sciences universities, in 2022. The process of selecting participants was based on the objective method. Results: The results showed that academic culture was recognized as a central category; infrastructures, educational and research challenges, academic independence, and scientific freedom as causal conditions; individual, cultural, and social factors, communication, and global knowledge as intervening conditions; management challenges, monitoring, evaluation, strategy, and leadership as the context of the formation of the most important challenges and obstacles of academic culture in institutionalizing the quality culture in higher education. The strategies to solve the challenges were divided into three levels, namely micro, mid, and macro, each of which with different subclasses. Conclusion: The results of the present study showed a deeper understanding of the direct and indirect challenges and obstacles of academic culture in institutionalizing the quality culture in higher education, which should be taken into consideration by the beneficiaries.

The importance of the "quality culture" has been increasing more and more in the efforts aiming internalizing quality in managerial and organizationalactivities. The main purposes of this study are to reveal the way and frequency of the quality culture issue in the academic literature, to identify the characteristics of the studies carried 849out, and in addition, to contribute to the literature by compiling national-scale studies on the subject. For these purposes, the studies titled "quality culture" were searched in Dergipark, Google Scholar and YÖK National Thesis Center and scientific studies titled "quality culture" published in academic research journals, master's and doctoral theses in Türkiye between 1990-2022 (October). Source types of publications, publication year, publication frequency, author information, universities and institutes, and breakdown of publications by departments, etc. properties were examined using the bibliometric analysis method. A total of 29 scientific studies, including 14 master's theses, 3 doctoral theses, 9 articles and 3 conference publications were reached and studied. It has been revealed that studies on quality culture are mostly carried out at the master's thesis level, the distribution of publications by years is uneven, and these studies are very inadequate compared to studies in both the field of business and social sciences and education. It is expected that this study will raise the awareness about the quality culture and provide an overview of the relevant national literature and serve as a roadmap for future research. The paper addresses the quality approach in public administration from a cultural perspective and presents: theoretical considerations on the “quality culture (QC)”; a review of the publications on cultural aspects in administrative institutions; the management process of QC in public institutions and the conclusion. As the publications’ review shows, the management of the QC must be a task of the top management in any administrative institution, in order to identify the factors that impede the effective functioning of quality system and to make improvements. The aim of the article is to support critical consideration about what quality is and might be in ECEC. It argues that two different quality cultures – understandings of what quality is, how it may be understood and supported – intersect and create tensions in relation to the ECEC area in Denmark. One is analyzed as influenced by a transnational quality discourse, a specific regime of truth regarding quality as a phenomenon "out there" that must be defined and assessed to improve. This technical-instrumental quality culture needs to be balanced by a quality culture founded in pedagogy as a distinct perspective foundational for ECEC. Drawing on a continental tradition of pedagogy as a human science discipline the article offers a language and understanding of pedagogical qualities. Such qualities refer to the attributes of pedagogy and go beyond what is easily disregarded as subjective in the prevailing quality culture. To identify such pedagogic qualities the article revisits empirical data from a narrative research project that explored pedagogic knowledge at play in ECEC professionals' practice. The article argues that a critical quality culture founded in thoughtful consideration and ethical balancing of pedagogical qualities is crucial for the sake of the children and our democratic society. Quality assurance (QA) in higher education institutions is influenced by their stakeholders' understanding of this concept. The emerging discussions on the engagement of stakeholders in QA highlight the need to understand their notion of QA and the diversity of constructs may contribute to the ongoing discourse of quality assurance in HEIs. Therefore, this article describes the stakeholders' concept of quality assurance. Using the qualitative method, the article explores quality assurance as practiced and experienced in Batangas State University in Luzon, Philippines. Interviews of 13 different stakeholders of the university were conducted and the transcripts were analyzed to determine the themes abstracted from the identified categories based on codes. The results show that quality assurance is a process; involves the continuous improvement of the institution; requires accountability and commitment; needs participation from all levels, especially from leadership; strengthens the culture of quality of the institution and its constituents; and is facilitated by communication. The purpose of this study was to offer a new approach to evaluate the index of ISO 9001 standard, as so far countries are listed for the ISO 9001 standard based only on the number of ISO 9001 certificates issued for each country, and this perception does not correspond to reality, because some countries that are listed per alphabetic order on top, doesn’t enjoy the property of having a better ranking when it comes to rank countries per number of ISO 9001 certificates issues, or when it comes to rank countries about their weight on the issue. On the other side, listing countries simply by the number of ISO 9001 certificates issued, doesn’t reflect the real weight of countries on the issue, because this rank should be adjusted with the number of businesses of countries taken into consideration, better understanding of ranking models used. A new approach to ranking countries about this issue is needed, reflecting the issue of taking into consideration the number of ISO 9001 certificates issued in a country per number of businesses in that country, as a better way of evaluating the index of ISO 9001 standard. The methodology/method used to conduct this study were (1) the data collection on the number of ISO 9001 certificates issued per country, (2) the data collection on the number of businesses in each country, (3) the division of the number of ISO 9001 certificates issued with the number of businesses, (4) construction of a new ranking list of countries based on the ISO 9001 standard index, (5) inversing the list to give the right value/rank of countries, and graphics draw of the new approach for better visualization and understanding the issue. The main conclusion of this study is that a new approach is needed to evaluate the index of ISO 9001 standard as a more appropriate indicator for listing/ranking countries and this serves all those interested in the academic field, public administration, and the reports and studies of the national and international level of organizations, to create a better perception of doing business in general and on the aspects of quality management in particular, especially when it comes to making the most appropriate comparisons between countries on these issues, weighting them numerically and graphically, as well as helps on understanding, and for a better approaching of socio and economic issues related to ISO standards and continuous improvement of people and organizations.

In this article we define the concept of quality culture in a complex higher education context. The article aims to start a creative dialogue on the conceptual continuity of the concept of quality culture in the form of a literature review. The concept analysis follows the method of Walker and Avant. We present the method first and thereafter the literature review (&2). The first step of the method is a broad general search on the internet (&2.1.) and a literature review. Numerous articles were selected based on the snowballing strategy and berry picking. The special interest in quality culture in a complex context called for three extra searches. Fifty-eight articles were selected. Two concepts of Quality culture are discovered: quality culture as the creation of shared values and quality culture as ownership of all. There is little literature on quality culture and complexity. In the literature review, little is found about quality culture in a complex context. Only when the definition of the concept of quality culture is known and agreed upon, can we effectively facilitate a quality culture in the complex context of higher education. There is no concept analysis on quality culture available and little research done on the phenomenon of quality culture in a complex context.

This study intends to investigate the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of faculty on higher education performance through quality culture in public and private universities of Pakistan. The study uses a nationwide survey approach, while data are collected from administrative managers through online and in-person questionnaires using stratified random sampling techniques. Of the 150 questionnaires distributed, 111 were received, however, 105 are considered valid while the data are analyzed by PLS-SEM. The results revealed the significant effect of intrinsic motivation and quality culture on higher education performance, and of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on quality culture; however, the effect of extrinsic motivation on higher education performance is not empirically supported. Besides, quality culture is found to be a statistically significant mediator in the relationship between intrinsic motivation and higher education performance, and extrinsic motivation and higher education performance. The relatively smaller sample size and reliance on administrative managers as the sole respondents are the possible weaknesses of this study. This study has expanded the theoretical and empirical understanding by introducing intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation as predictor variables in relation to higher education performance and implicating quality culture as a mediator. This study has important implications for policymakers, administrators, and quality managers to focus on employees’ motivation to create a quality culture, which in turn will improve the performance of their respective organizations.

The lack of concern for teachers and students to understand holistically the meaning of a school's quality culture results in a loss of values that must be understood, internalized, and practiced jointly by all individuals or groups involved. In the process of developing a quality culture, it requires a leadership model of a school principal who is firm, has integrity and has quality so that the existing quality culture can be actualized again. This study aims to identify the school principal's leadership model in developing a quality culture at SMAN 2 Tanggul. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type of research. Primary data was obtained from information on school principals, vice principals, teachers, staff, and students. Then secondary data was obtained from archives and documents from data from SMAN 2 Tanggul. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validation techniques used in this study included participatory counseling, observation persistence, and triangulation. The results of this study state that there are four models of leadership for the principal of SMAN 2 Tangul, namely a leadership model by improving the quality of teacher resources, a leadership model by increasing discipline, a leadership model by developing academic and non-academic qualities of students, and a leadership model by transforming the school digitalization program. This article approaches quality assurance in higher education from the perspective of quality culture. We present a concept model of quality culture that incorporates both the structural/managerial elements of the educational context as well as individual and interpersonal dynamics. The model highlights the importance of leadership, communication and information in connecting both sides of the educational praice. Our approach is unique in that it provides an interactive instrument to map, discuss and advance the existing quality cultures in cocreation with the educational actors. This instrument consists of a face-valid blueprint of the concept of quality culture. This blueprint is enriched by identifying the characteristics for less and more mature quality cultures. The feasibility of the instrument was tested in a pilot study with 13 appreciative in-depth interviews. We found that this instrument allowed faculty members and programme directors to grasp and co-create the profile of their existing quality culture. By using the appreciative approach, stimulating dialogue and reflection, our concept of quality culture aims to structure, scaffold and strengthen the continuous strive for educational quality. Internal quality assurance (IQA) is one of the core support systems on which schools in the health professions rely to ensure the quality of their educational processes. Through IQA they demonstrate being in control of their educational quality to accrediting bodies and continuously improve and enhance their educational programmes. Although its need is acknowledged by all stakeholders, creating a system of quality assurance has often led to establishing a 'tick-box' exercise overly focusing on quality control while neglecting quality improvement and enhancement. This AMEE Guide uses the concept of quality culture to describe the various dimensions that need to be addressed to move beyond the tick-box exercise. Quality culture can be defined as an organisational culture which consists of a structural/managerial aspect and a cultural/psychological aspect. As such this AMEE Guide addresses tools and processes to further an educational quality culture while also addressing ways in which individual and collective awareness of and commitment to educational quality can be fostered. By using cases within health professions education of both formal and informal learning settings, examples will be provided of how the diverse dimensions of a quality culture can be addressed in practice.
