This study explores the synergistic integration of remote sensing (RS) and Historical Landscape Characterisation (HLC) methodology as an innovative, multi-scalar and holistic approach to enhance archaeological planning. The goal is to maximize the effectiveness of the investigations, optimizing data collection and improving the contextual understanding of the sites. In fact, these methodologies can significantly contribute to the documentation, conservation, planning and valorisation of archaeological areas. By integrating RS data with features detected by HLC, a complete picture is obtained that facilitates a deeper understanding of the landscape and historical dynamics. This article will explain the combined approach of RS and HLC, presenting some methodologies key to improving the precision and effectiveness of archaeological planning. This integration facilitates the sustainable preservation of archaeological resources and contributes to the conscious management of cultural heritage in the context of contemporary development. The paper demonstrates, through a case study, how the application of the two methodologies (RS and HLC) in an integrated form can provide an exhaustive interpretation of the territory in which the archaeological area is located, which can represent an exhaustive knowledge base on which to set up effective processes for the strategic territorial planning of archaeological areas. The urban accessibility and connectivity are enormously important factors to measure the convenience of life and the territorial liveability for residents, and they are also the most essential prerequisites for planning satellite cities in periphery near the metropolitan cities and for promoting satellite cities' inclusive progression. Previously relative contributions demonstrated that although the metropolitan cities and their satellite cities are located quite close, but still existing the defeat of accessibility and connectivity. The article identified the need for improvements in innovating the way of eco-friendly mobility to realize the new generation green transportation under the context of all societies facing the dual pressure of environmental pollution and energy crisis. Therefore, the article presented a conceptual framework for connecting the boundary of the metropolitan cities and their satellite cities in the periphery. Through a qualitative analysis of the structure and composition, operation mechanism and the comparative advantages of the solar-powered aerial funicular and the case of Milan-Cusago, results from the research showed that it had potential as a new initiative for clean and green mode of urban mobility to further achieve accessibility and connectivity between the metropolitan cities and their satellite cities that contributes to transition for Smart Sustainable Cities. This article firstly presents evidence of the guiding role of new institutional economics and urban planning for Shenzhen's historical development, and their significant influence on Shenzhen's all-round development, especially from the socio-economic, urban and environmental aspects in a descriptive approach. To be specific, Shenzhen's development achievements over the past 40 years of reform and opening up have concretely proved the enormous contributions of transaction cost theory, property rights theory and urban planning, relevant policy and governance. Then, we question Shenzhen how to fulfil the new mission that entrusted by the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. It's extremely important to rethink the future development direction of Shenzhen by taking its fruitful reform and opening up as a new starting point. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the strong potential of Earth-observation (EO) data and techniques in support of migration policies, and to propose actions to fill the existing structural gaps. The work was carried out within the "Smart URBan Solutions for air quality, disasters and city growth" (SMURBS, ERA-PLANET/H2020) project. The novelties introduced by the implemented solutions are based on the exploitation and synergy of data from different EO platforms (satellite, aerial, and in situ). The migration theme is approached from different perspectives. Among these, this study focuses on the design process of an EO-based solution for tailoring and monitoring the SDG 11 indicators in support of those stakeholders involved in migration issues, evaluating the consistency of the obtained results by their compliance with the pursued objective and the current policy framework. Considering the city of Bari (southern Italy) as a case study, significant conclusions were derived with respect to good practices and obstacles during the implementation and application phases. These were considered to deliver an EO-based proposal to address migrants' inclusion in urban areas, and to unfold the steps needed for replicating the solution in other cities within and outside Europe in a standardized manner.
