In this article we examine ways in which gender performativity may be recognized by young children, looking at a drag queen’s mediation of literary encounters. The theoretical-analytical framework we employ comes from Gender Studies and Cultural Studies of post-structuralist inspiration. Our text recounts experiences from readings, conversation circles and play activities we organized in a small city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Analyzing children’s play and interactions, we observe that from an early age they begin to recognize and question certain expectations about bodies. Contact with art, through literature and other modes of gender performance, can contribute to this reflexive process. RÉSUMÉ Dans cet article, nous étudions comment la performativité de genre est reconnue par les jeunes enfants à travers la médiation de la lecture littéraire par une drag queen, ayant comme base théorique et analytique les études de genre et les études culturelles d'inspiration post-structuraliste. Nous organisons des rencontres avec des lectures de livres, des cercles de conversation et des activités ludiques dans une bibliothèque à l'intérieur du Rio Grande do Sul. En analysant les scènes réalisées par les enfants, nous observons que dès leur plus jeune âge, ils apprennent à (re) connaître et à tendre certaines attentes sur les corps. Le contact avec l'art, à travers la littérature et d'autres modèles performatifs de genre, peut contribuer au processus de réflexion. Analisando cenas protagonizadas pelas crianças, observamos que desde cedo elas aprendem a (re)conhecer, (re)produzir e a tensionar certas expectativas sobre os corpos. O contato com a arte, por meio da literatura e de outros modelos performativos de gênero, pode contribuir no processo de reflexão.

This article proposes that Charles Williams’s mid-twentieth-century noir fiction reshapes post-war representations of gender roles and paves the way for various renditions and developments of noir. Williams’s works are narratives of transgression meeting domesticity, crime meeting docility, and cunning meeting conformity; they portray a deadly recipe that comprises different, even conflicting ingredients of a fusion between domesticity, crime, and suspense. By examining the recurring figure of the criminal housewife in his work, especially Hell Hath No Fury (1953), this article argues that Williams brings forth a complex and subversive gender schema to trouble both the creed of domesticity popular in the 1950s and the stereotyping of the lethal seductress prevalent in noir fiction. By so doing, Williams’s noir not only brings the transgression of women to the fore but also displays a compelling picture of post-war gender roles in the US under McCarthyism.

Humanity is sporadically subjected to leaders with deviant behavior, ego problems, or psychiatric disorders, potentially leading to social instability. Bipolar disorder is not common in all populations, but coincidentally, studies suggest that it affected two sovereigns that were contemporaries, King George III of England, who died 201 years ago, and Queen Maria I of Portugal, who died 205 years ago. They lived during a time of European turmoil with the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, coinciding with the rise of psychiatry. Both monarchs were forced to have prince regents to rule in their place, due to their emotional decline, and they shared the same medical consultant, Francis Willis.

Vibro-acoustic communication is used by honey bees in many different social contexts. Our previous research showed that workers interact with their queen outside of the swarming period by means of wing-beating behaviour. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify the hypothesis that the wing-beating behaviour of workers attending the queen stimulates her to lay eggs. The behaviour of workers and the queen was recorded using a high-speed camera, at first in the presence of uncapped brood in the nest and then without one. None of the queens performed wing-beating behaviour. On the other hand, the workers attending the queen demonstrated this behaviour two times per minute, on average, even in the presence of uncapped brood in the nest. After removing the combs with the uncapped brood, the incidence of wing-beating behaviour increased significantly to an average of four times per minute. Wing-beating behaviour did not differ significantly in its characteristics when uncapped brood was present or absent in the nest. During 3 days after removing the combs with the uncapped brood, there was no significant increase in the rate of egg lying by the queen. Therefore, the results presented here do not convincingly confirm that the wing-beating behaviour of workers affects the rate of queen's egg-lying. This negative result can be related to colony disturbance and longer time required by the queen to increase egg production.

This article is an attempt to detail which logistical, economic and human implications had the itinerancy of the medieval monarchy. For this reason, the paper focuses on the characteristics of the itinerancy of Eleanor of Sicily, third wife of Pedro the Ceremonious and queen of the Crown of Aragon between 1349 and 1375. Through the analysis of her documentation, from chancery and treasury resources, it has been possible to establish an itinerary of the queen for three years, from 1354 to 1357. The analysis of this itinerary allows us to see the confluence of the royal couple entourages and the consequences of the beginning of the Dos Pedros war. At the same time, the paper focuses on the period the Queen stayed in Perpignan and it discusses the composition of her Household, the logistics of transport and accommodation. For all of that, it is feasible to measure the symbolic value of royal itinerancy, quantifying the real cost of it for the Queen. El presente artículo detalla las implicaciones logísticas, económicas y humanas que tenía la itinerancia de la monarquía medieval, analizando el caso de Leonor de Sicilia, tercera esposa de Pedro el Ceremonioso y reina de la Corona de Aragón entre 1349 y 1375. Mediante el análisis de su documentación de cancillería y tesorería se ha confeccionado un itinerario de la reina durante tres años, de 1354 y 1357. El análisis de este itinerario permite ver la confluencia de los séquitos de la pareja regia y las consecuencias del inicio de la guerra de los Dos Pedros. Asimismo, y centrándonos en la estancia en Perpiñán entre 1355 y 1356, en el artículo se analiza la composición de la Casa que se desplazó con la reina, la logística del transporte y del alojamiento. Con todo ello, cuantificaremos el valor simbólico de la itinerancia regia, viendo el coste real de la misma para la reina.

S’hi transcriuen les dedicatòries dels autors —en català, la major part d’elles—, entre els quals destaca, pel nombre de volums, Jacint Verdaguer. Alphonse II King of Aragon (1164–1196). He was the first king of the Crown of Aragon and son of the Queen Petronila of Aragon (1157–1164) and the count of Barcelona, Ramon Berenguer IV (1137–1162). Aware of the new political reality that he embodied as King of Aragon and Count of Barcelona, Alphonse II made significant changes to his iconography. Among the most important of these is the binomial that he incorporated to his pendent seals; that is, a portrayal of Alphonse enthroned as king on the obverse and Alphonse as count and mounted on a horse on the reverse. As a known bibliophile and as a result of his desire to reorganise his chancellery following the union of various political entities, he ordered the compilation of the Liber Feudorum Maior, the folios of which demonstrate his potestas regia through their lavish iconography. He was no less innovative in his coinage, on which he included, for the first time, the image of his head wearing the crown.

Questi territori, mai visitati dalla loro signora, furono sede di una complessa macchina istituzionale e amministrativa che si impiantò su scala locale in stretta connessione con la curia centrale. La creazione di una corte a Siracusa e le manifestazioni di potere dei palazzi e dei castelli dove risiedevano i più alti ufficiali della signoria erano infatti i modi in cui si materializzava e si rendeva visibile il suo dominio nel patrimonio di sua pertinenza. In questo studio, si esaminano gli spazi in cui si muovevano questi funzionari e le cure prestate dalla sovrana a queste strutture.

This study aimed to examine the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccines among HCP at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Barbados.Design and Methods: A cross-sectional survey of HCP was conducted between February 14 and 27, 2021 using an online questionnaire. The questionnaire included demographic information, knowledge of novel coronavirus, intention to accept the COVID-19 vaccination, vaccine literacy (VL), and perceptions and attitudes regarding COVID-19 vaccines. Mean VL scores were calculated. The relationship between socio-demographic variables and vaccine intent was assessed using a multivariable logistic regression model.Results: Of 343 HCPs, 55.1% indicated they would accept the COVID-19 vaccine if it were available; 44.9% expressed hesitancy towards the COVID-19 vaccine. We assessed the impact of socio-demographic factors and previous vaccine behavior on vaccine intent; after adjustment of the multivariable logistic regression model, non-Barbadian nationality and previous flu vaccine uptake were statistically significant predictors of reported intent to take the COVID-19 vaccine. Persons who indicated that they would take the vaccine had a higher mean vaccine literacy score [3.46 95% CI (3.40, 3.52)] than those who were not ready to take the vaccine immediately [3.23 95% CI (3.15, 3.30)]. VL scores were higher among the 29.5% of HCPs who believed vaccines should be mandatory.Conclusion: This study highlighted vaccine hesitancy among HCPs in the sole public tertiary hospital of Barbados. As HCP perceptions may help or hinder the campaign to promote vaccine uptake in Barbados, vaccine promotion programs targeting HCPs are needed to ensure the success of the country’s COVID-19 vaccination drive.Keywords: vaccine intake, vaccine hesitancy, vaccine literacy, healthcare professionals, COVID-19, Barbados

James I, King of Aragon (1213–1276). He was the third king of the Crown of Aragon, which had come into existence through the union between Queen Petronila of Aragon (1157–1164) and the Count of Barcelona Ramon Berenguer IV (1137–1162). James I represents a milestone in the iconography of the Kings of Aragon, although this is due more to his successors’ promotion of him rather than to his own efforts. In order to organise and unify his dominions after the conquests of Mallorca and Valencia, he immersed himself in legal work that consolidated his legislative power whilst still allowing his territories to retain a certain degree of autonomy. He carried out an essential monetary reorganisation in which his coinage retained its obverse but altered its reverse according to the place of issue. He never succeeded in being crowned, although he featured the crown prominently in his stamps and seals and, on some coins, he added the term rex gratia Dei. In addition, he revived the sword as a royal insignia, having proclaimed the right of conquest as the basis of his sovereignty.

This article focuses on the study of the spaces occupied by the Castilian queens, inside and outside their chambers, and how they become involved in the courtly politics. This article aligns the 1605, 1606, and 1609 court sermons of Lancelot Andrewes with Ben Jonson's Masque of Blackness and Masque of Beauty (performed in 1605 and 1608, respectively) in order to argue that both genres politicize James VI and I's domestic life by commenting on Queen Anne's political and domestic roles. Scholars have examined the ways in which Anne's performance in the court masques allowed her to claim a sense of authority and agency over her body. Recent research on sermons has demonstrated how they were another form of court entertainment, more akin to masques and plays than we might expect, and that the sermon genre often commented on ongoing political and domestic situations in the Stuart court. Yet, scholars have not considered how the masques prompted a response from another popular court genre, the sermon. In placing these two genres—sermon and masque—alongside one another, I argue that Andrewes's patriarchal downplaying of the woman's body in the Biblical Nativity narrative is actually a response to Jonson's masques, rather than the normative touchstone of early modern understandings of gender and maternity. Considering Andrewes's view of the female body as a contrast to Jonson's display and celebration of the female body reveals multiple models for understanding maternity in the early modern period.

The culture wars, or battle between American conservatives and progressives to define national values, appeared to be in abeyance until they were seemingly reignited by Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” rally cry. Yet, contemporary culture wars are different from those of previous decades because, instead of being driven by political and intellectual elites, they are often fought by populist voices on social media platforms. Additionally, whereas culture wars have traditionally been understood as reactionary to changes in local communities, social media may redefine community such that threats emerging in one geographic area reverberate across the country. In this study, we analyze 1658 comments posted to four ideologically divergent Reddit communities in response to Drag Queen Story Hour, which entails drag performers reading books to children in libraries. Our analysis demonstrates ways that different communities grapple with cultural threat, with those who have historically influenced American values exhibiting fear over the power they stand to lose. Additionally, in our analysis, members of online communities responded to threats that materialized in geographic communities to which they did not necessarily have a tangible connection. Thus, the diffuse nature of digital age culture wars may render distinctions between abstract and tangible threats obsolete.

The development of neurology as an independent discipline in the mid-19th century was considerably influenced by the almost simultaneous foundation of the Charcot School at the Salpetriere Hospital in Paris and the National Hospital for the Paralysed and Epileptic and it's School at Queen Square in London in the 1860's. We have reviewed the early interactions between Charcot's school and the leading neurologists at the National Hospital and also discussed their neurological antecedents and subsequent links up to the outbreak of World War 1 in 1914. Earlier interactions involved Trousseau and Duchenne in France and Graves, Todd, Laycock and Allbutt in Britain. The French Brown–Sequard was one of the first two physicians appointed to the National Hospital. Charcot was a frequent visitor to Britain culminating in his influential role in the 1881 International Medical Congress in London. He first suggested the terms “Parkinson's Disease” and “Jacksonian Epilepsy”. He attracted numerous British visitors to Paris and his studies of hysteria were influenced by Laycock, Todd and Russell Reynolds. Hughlings Jackson drew upon the anatomical studies of Gratiolet in his interactions with Broca and Charcot which influenced French views on aphasia , epilepsy and cortical localisation. Ball, an Englishman, was the first Professor of mental and brain diseases in Paris in 1877. Bruce in Edinburgh and Kinnier Wilson in London both maintained frequent contacts with Paris, where the latter first presented his studies of hepatolenticular degeneration in 1912. The Entente Cordiale of 1904 led to further interactions with the leading role of the French and British physicians Raymond and Duckworth. Two outstanding British women, Elizabeth Garrett and Blanche Edwards, qualified in Medicine in Paris with neurological interests. Our review emphasises the constructive influence of the French and British Schools on each other and thus on the development of neurology. The French influence was primarily the establishment of the anatomo-clinical method and the use of photographic illustrations in publications. The British School influence was its Clinical Assessment Skills and scientific studies of newly recognised diseases and concepts and its early development of neurosurgery .

Este artículo pretende llevar a cabo un primer estado de la cuestión en español sobre los embarazos y partos de una reina castellana de Inglaterra: Leonor de Castilla (1240-1291). En primer lugar, se presenta al personaje, remarcándose la importancia que tuvieron la maternidad y su rol como “proveedora de herederos” en su vida política y en su recuerdo. Sorprendentemente —aunque en consonancia con los estudios historiográficos generales sobre el personaje—, los trabajos sobre la primera etapa de la maternidad de esta reina se revelan escasos, limitados y con carencias, algo en lo que sin duda han influido las dificultades que plantean las fuentes primarias directas para el conocimiento del personaje. En este artículo se presentan algunas fuentes generales que otros historiadores han manejado desde diversas perspectivas por sus posibilidades y potencial, valorándose de qué modo podrían ayudar al conocimiento de la reginalidad de Leonor de Castilla.

An experiment was carried out to determine the effect of pinching practice and different concentrations of Paclobutrazol (PBZ) on the flowering of Henckelia Royal Queen plants.Completely randomized design with eight treatment combinations of pinching or non-pinching and different concentrations of Paclobutrazol (0, 15, 30and 60 ppm) soil drenchwas usedwith eight replicates for each treatment. Pinching was practiced twice at two weeks intervals. Flowering parameters viz. number of flower buds, days taken to flowering, number of flowers, pedicel length, corolla length and corolla width were measured at two weeks intervals from 9thweek after the treatment application. The twentieth century marks the beginning of a new period in England during which the norms and the traditions pertaining to the Victorian age start to be questioned. While the echoes of this change have been audible from the 1890s onwards, they reach their climax with the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 because it announces not only the physical death of the Queen but also the symbolic death of the Victorian mindset. With the reign of King Edward VII, therefore, the literary texts of the period illustrate a liberal outlook that questions the outdated ideals of the previous era. Within this context, this article examines E. M. Forster’s Howards End (1910) by foregrounding and analysing the clash between the ideals of the past and those of the present, which in the wider perspective demonstrates Forster’s modernist agenda to go beyond the strict dualities and to introduce a totally fresh synthesis. Epitomising the cultural inheritance of the country, Howards End is more than a house; it represents the future of England. Thus, it is important that Howards End should function as a unifying force that will bring these opposite ends together – as represented through different socio-economic classes embodied through three families whose lives get connected to one another at the end of the novel. Thereby, Forster aptly weaves the stories of the Schlegels, the Wilcoxes, and the Bast family by counterbalancing the intellectual and the material; the spiritual and the physical; the feminine and the masculine; the past and the present, and he presents a modern synthesis that, he believes, will shape England in the future.

This study focuses on the reasons of mother-daughter conflicts in Martin McDonagh's The Beauty Queen of Leenane. As the twenty-first century was approaching, a new movement of young playwrights emerged on the UK theatre scene. One of the most controversial and beloved representatives of this wave is Martin McDonagh. The author was born and raised in London as the son of an Irish family. In 1996, McDonagh's first play The Beauty Queen of Leenane was staged in Ireland, and then found its place in London and New York, fascinating much attention. Also staged in Turkey, this play of four characters has become the starting point of McDonagh's extraordinary theatrical career. In the play, Maureen, a forty-year-old single woman, still lives with her domineering mother Mag. For years, Maureen has spent her time by cooking, feeding the chickens, and shopping while taking care of her ailing and grumpy mother on her own. In The Beauty Queen of Leenane Maureen and Mag live an isolated life due to their physical location and relationships with each other. Maureen dreams of escaping her mother's house and her town called Leenane. She blames her mother and sisters for her miserable situation. The harsh, rude and hurtful conversations between mother and daughter always continue with conflict. As the play progresses it becomes obvious that this relationship between the two characters is completely disintegrated.

Numerous historical monuments in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, such as the King’s and Queen’s tomb, are immersed in a complex web of conflict. These are places where, beyond the building itself, we find the presence of inhabitants with very different notions of what the concept of heritage means, so that dispute and resistance are more than guaranteed. The article looks at these extremely heterogeneous and controversial territories through a method —“narrative cartographies”— capable of making the space, its history and social strata visible from an ethnographic point of view. A method that brings to the surface the tensions and disputes between citizens who are marginalised by the institutional power, but who share a spatial reality that is usually ignored and made invisible. In this way, the cartographic analysis presented in both the King’s Tomb and the Queen’s Tomb redefines the way in which these places can be understood and studied, suppressing a dominant and/or imposing vision for one that is much more sensitive to the voices ofthe inhabitants. The aim is to disseminate a process that can help reveal different narratives that lead to heritage practices that are as inclusive as emancipatory.

Shobashakti is one of the most important migrant creators of today's Eelam. He has created novels including Gorilla, M and BOX. This paper deals with BOX. The new day brings to the fore the geological and social and historical references to the village of Palankulam, the central domain of the story, and the various war-related situations of Eelam. This study reveals them critically. Moreover, the story is told under a separate title from Mayyakakatha to Forty in the novel. In addition, the final version of the story has been set up. Under some headings subsection symmesis sub-copies 1 and 2 are also included. The subsection of the subcopies is centered on the statement of the characters and the textual record of the heart queen and the text language record of Roman Bhaktadas are the new techniques and methods in the new system. They are also discussed in the article.

Presidents are considered as caring and sensitive fathers of their nations whose words of condolences are usually needed in times of grief. One medium through which they express their condolences is through the delivery of tributes to eulogize the dead and sympathize with bereaved families. There is therefore the need to examine how presidents employ the faculties of language to eulogize the dead in their tributes. Premised on the transitivity framework postulated by Halliday and Matthiessen, the present study investigates the use of transitivity patterns in Ghanaian presidential tributes to unearth various experiences and also unveil the implicit relationships that exist between politicians and traditional rulers. The sample for the study is composed of four tributes delivered by Akuffo Addo, Mahama, Kufour and Rawlings to the late Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Apem II. The data were manually coded using the consensual coding strategy. The results indicate a preponderant use of relational processes to identify the unique qualities possessed by the late Queen Mother which further unveil the varied relationships between her and the presidents. Other process types such as material, mental, verbal and behavioural processes are used to construe the positive actions carried out by the late Queen Mother during her lifetime, activate the minds and emotions of mourners and sympathizers regarding the loss, posthumously project the late Queen Mother as a legend who needs to be modelled after and present a collective purgation of emotions of pain and agony. The study concludes that, despite the apolitical status of traditional rulers, they still have a latent but cordial relationship with politicians. open access article This article reads The Crown, Series Three, Episode Three, ‘Aberfan’, as an adaptation of The Queen, both of which were written by Peter Morgan. Each focuses on a crisis in public relations emerging from Elizabeth II’s delayed reaction to a tragedy: the mining disaster in The Crown and the death of Princess Diana in The Queen. Both are double portraits, in which the monarch’s affective failure is contrasted with the more humane response of the prime minister, Harold Wilson and Tony Blair respectively. And both texts explore the tension between private grief and public performance. By reading these texts in dialogue, their relevance to their contemporary contexts is magnified. The Queen uses Elizabeth II’s nadir in public relations to comment on Blair’s fall from grace as a result of the Iraq War, while ‘Aberfan’, by emphasising the avoidable nature of the disaster, comments on the Grenfell Tower fire of 2017. While neither text shrinks from criticising the monarch for her breakdown in empathy, the resonances between Aberfan and Grenfell allow the Queen’s immediate and humane response in 2017 to redeem her delayed reactions in the past. This demonstrates the capacity of fictional texts to intervene in the popular perception of their subjects.

This review complements Hughes’s book by reflecting on the development of the Department of Religious Studies at Queen’s University to the present. It validates his claim that the growth of religious studies in Canadian universities was dependent on administrative cultures often idiosyncratic to particular institutions. In the case of Queen’s, a pattern of administrative interaction and shared faculty between the University and Queen’s Theological College persisted much longer than in comparable organizations. This can be explained by three considerations: the ethos of the United Church of Canada, growing awareness of multiculturalism from the 1970s onward, and the influence of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. Although the first two of these factors are identified by Hughes, the last has been overlooked. It explains why, however, the Masters of Theological Studies could act as a de facto graduate degree in Religious Studies at Queen’s until the department developed its M.A. in 2001.

Christopher Goodman and John Knox were 16th century famous theologians and reformers, who were well-known for their radical resistence against the authority of English Queen Mary Tudor and Scottish Queen-Regent Mary de Guise. During the years they spent in exile, they wrote their most famoust works – How Superior Powers Ought To Be Obeyed By Their Subjects: And Wherein They May Lawfully By God´s Word Be Disobeyed And Resisted and The First Blast of Trumpet against the Monstrous Regiment of Women. The main subject of this research is a comparison of already mentioned writings, while the main emphasis is placed on the comparison of common topics – that means criticism of women rulers, their illegitimate origins, succession rights and relationship with foreigners, and theory of legitimate defence against bad rulers.

Director David Wagner says Trade Queen ‘was never intended to be a period film’. However, the suitability of black-and-white 35 mm for the story points to the inflection between markers of analogue and digital registration as one that also codes the boundary between queer and straight experience. This article argues that while Trade Queen is tagged as a film without dialogue, the use of sound design and music in the film is critical to a narrative told aurally as well as visually. Furthermore, it is the use of sound in this film ‐ which ends with vinyl interference ‐ that articulates the tension between analogue and digital, and between heteronormative and queer experience. In punchlines, the synthesized reverb of Ruby Treasure’s score, and in interiors heard from the gated picket fence, we hear as well as see the transitions between public and private selves.

This paper presents the development of an automated tool called QuEEN PyService, aimed to the extraction of events voltage signals from the QuEEN distribution network monitoring system database, for advanced Power Quality analysis. The application has allowed the integration of the DELFI classifier (DEep Learning for False voltage dips Identification), recently developed by RSE, making it possible for the first time the intensive validation of the latter on a large number of voltage dips. Thanks to this tool, a comparison between the performance of DELFI and those of an older criterion based on the 2nd voltage harmonic measurement has been performed using data recorded by 61 measurement units in the period 2015-2020 The analysis has been focused on traditional PQ voltage dips counting indices as N2a e N3b. Results show that the usage of the DELFI classifier increases the N2a and the N3b by respectively the 20.6 % and 38.8% with respect to the QuEEN criterion.

Background There is one queen in each honey bee, Apis mellifera L., colony under normal conditions. This queen performs egg laying and pheromonal control in the colony. All genetic characteristics of bee workers and drones depend on the queen. This reflects the importance of bee queen in the colony. In this review, behaviors of honey bee queens are presented and further studies are suggested to fill in gaps in knowledge. Main body The major studies about behaviors of honey bee queens either inside or outside the colony were reviewed. Some behavioral aspects especially egg laying pattern, sperm storage and utilization, conflict between queens, and the role of the queens in swarming and absconding have gained relatively few attention. Also, some other points such as the ability of a queen to transmit parasites after mating to her offspring and effects of pesticides on queen rearing and characteristics of emerged queens were highlighted. Conclusion This study highlighted the points that require further detailed studies. This review article may stimulate others toward performing specific future studies on bee queens.

Scholars of religion today understand that the scientific basis of religious studies lies in the fact that religion is a multifarious historical phenomenon accessible through empirical research, and that this study therefore differs fundamentally from theology premised on the acceptance of supernaturally revealed truths and faith traditions. Meanwhile, it has been broadly believed that theology once occupied the preeminent position in the medieval university, as expressed by the well-known sobriquet “queen of the sciences.” By surveying the early history of the university, this article shows that most medieval universities did not have a theology faculty until the fourteenth century. With the notable exception of Paris and its immediate offspring (Oxford and Cambridge), the relation between theology and the university was far more tangential and temporizing than is generally assumed—a point worth bearing in mind as we consider the question of the secularization of learning, which is said to have taken place since the early modern period.
