In this study, Boron carbide was synthesized using Mesoporous Carbon CMK-1, Boron oxide, and magnesiothermic reduction process. The Effects of temperature and magnesium grain size on the formation of boron carbide were studied using nano composite precurser containg mesoporous carbon. Samples were leached in 2M Hydrochloric acid to separate Mg, MgO and magnesium-borat phases. SEM, XRD and Xray map analysis were caried out on the leached samples to characterize the boron carbide. results showed that the reaction efficiency developed in samples with weight ratio of B2O3:C:Mg = 11:1.5:12, by increasing the temperature from 550 to 650 °C and magnesium powder size from 0.3 m to 3 m.

Effect of CaO and SiO2 additions on the grain growth and magnetic and electrical properties of a Ni–Zn ferrite was studied. The common oxides (x = 0.4CaO + 0.8SiO2) were added in different moles (x = 0, 0.02, 0.06, 0.012, 0.24 and 0.48) to Fe2O3, Zn, and NiO. The mixed powders were mechanically alloyed for 12 h using a high energy ball mill before heating at 1200 °C for 240 min. The products were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer and static hysteresisgraph, and later by an impedance analyzer with a frequency range from 1 MHz to 1.8 GHz. The XRD results indicate a formation of single phase spinel structure in all the samples. The average grain size was affected by the additive contents so that their sizes grew, up to x = 0.06, and after that their sizes reduced from 0.631 to 0.371 μ at x = 0.48. The experimental density of the samples displayed an upward trend for x < 0.06, increasing from 5.39 g cm−3 (x = 0) to 5.51 g cm−3 (x = 0.06): afterwards, their values presented a downward trend, reducing to 4.01 g cm−3 at x = 0.48. Magnetic behaviors such as saturation magnetization () and induction magnetization () degraded as well as the real permeability of the samples by increasing the x content. The loss factor i.e. hysteresis loss also remarkably decreased by accumulation of SiO2 and CaO in the grain boundaries. The electrical resistivity was determined in the order of 6.9  ×  1010 Ω cm for x = 0 and 6.4  ×  1011 Ω cm for x = 0.48. Therefore, low relative loss factor and high resistivity make these ferrites particularly useful as inductor and transformer materials for high frequency applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Corrosion is a harmful processes which by definition is a chemical or electrochemical reaction between a substance (usually a metal) and the environment which leads to a change in the properties of the substance and has destructive effects. In this study, new composites consisting of Al/WS 2 /ZnTerp-2TH with 5 and 10 wt.% ZnTerp-2TH were prepared and the results were fully compared. Al/WS 2 played the role of matrix and ZnTerp-2TH played the role of reinforcement. In other words, as a novelty to prevent the corrosion of Al/WS 2 , ZnTerp-2TH is designed and synthesized and showed good results when the corrosion ratio was reduced by the existence of ZnTerp-2TH. Furthermore, the NMR and mass analysis of ZnTerp-2TH were carried out, and the thermal properties, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, morphology, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis and corrosion behavior of the composites were also discussed in detail. The crystal size values of composites were calculated by the modified Scherrer method 34, 26 and 27 nm for Al/WS 2 , Al/WS 2 /5 wt.% ZnTerp-2TH and Al/WS 2 /10 wt.% ZnTerp-2TH, respectively. The microstructural examination of the specimens showed that the reinforcing phase (ZnTerp-2TH) has a favorable distribution on the surface of Al/WS 2 when it covers the cracks and holes. In addition, the corrosion investigation results showed that the addition of ZnTerp-2TH to Al/WS 2 can improve the corrosion resistance when the E corr and I corr values of Al/WS 2 /10 wt.% ZnTerp-2TH were recorded in tandem -724 mV/decade and 5 uA cm -2 .

In this paper, a novel nanocrystalline composite material of hydroxyapatite (HA)/polyvinyltrimethoxysilane (PVTMS)/iron(II)chloride tetrahydrate (Cl 2 FeH 8 -O 4 ) with hexagonal structure is proposed for the fabrication of a gas/temperature sensor. Taking into account the sensitivity of HA to high temperatures, to prevent the collapse and breakdown of bonds and the leakage of volatiles without damaging the composite structure, a freeze-drying machine is designed and fabricated. X-ray diffraction, FTIR, SEM, EDAX, TEM, absorption and photoluminescence analyses of composite are studied. XRD is used to confirm the material structure and the crystallite size of the composite is calculated by the Monshi-Scherrer method, and a value of 81.60 ± 0.06 nm is obtained. The influence of the oxygen environment on the absorption and photoluminescence measurements of the composite and the influence of vaporized ethanol, N 2 and CO on the SiO 2 /composite/Ag sensor device are investigated. The sensor with a 30 nm-thick layer of composite shows the highest response to vaporized ethanol, N 2 and ambient CO. Overall, the composite and sensor exhibit a good selectivity to oxygen, vaporized ethanol, N 2 and CO environments.

Mg-based alloys have several suitable properties for biomaterials, but they have major problems of being less antibacterial and have a low mechanical strength. To solve these problems, a new combination of Ag/Zn/Mg was prepared in this study, where the presence of Zn and Ag can help to increase the bioactivity. The use of 5 wt.% polymers consisting of PolyCaproLactone (PCL), PolyHydroxyButyrate (PHB) and PolyVinylTriMethoxySilane (PVTMS) is also investigated. DSC, XRD, TEM, FTIR, SEM, and EDAX analysis, as well as mechanical and bioactive behavior, were investigated to characterize the prepared composites. In the comparison, the best behavior was found when PHB was used. The results show that the strength values ranged from ~201 to 261 MPa.

Recently, researchers have focused on the biocompatibility and mechanical properties of highly porous structures of biomaterials products. Porous composites are a new category of bioengineering that possess excellent functional and structural properties. In this study, the physical and mechanical properties of prepared doped silver (Ag)-hydroxyapatite (HA) by the mechanochemical and spark plasma sintering (SPS) methods were investigated. The influence of dopant on phase formation, structural properties, mechanical properties and morphological characteristics was investigated. Furthermore, in this case, as a new approach to produce a porous scaffold with an average size of >100 µm, the hair band was used as a mold. According to the Monshi-Scherrer method, the crystal size of scaffold was calculated 38 ± 2 nm and this value was in the good agreement with average value from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. In addition, the stress-strain compression test of scaffold was considered, and the maximum value of compressive strength was recorded ~15.71 MPa. Taking into account the XRD, TEM, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-Ray analysis (EDAX) analysis, the prepared scaffold was bioactive and the effects of doped Ag-HA and the use of polyvinyltrimethoxysilane (PVTMS) as an additive were desirable. The results showed that the effect of thermal treatment on composed of Ag and HA were impressive while no change in transformation was observed at 850 °C. In addition, PVTMS plays an important role as an additive for preventing the decomposition and creating open-microporous in the scaffold that these porosities can be helpful for increasing bioactivity.

One of the major challenges facing researchers of tissue engineering is scaffold design with desirable physical and mechanical properties for growth and proliferation of cells and tissue formation. In this research, firstly, nano-bioglass powder with grain sizes of 55-56 nm was prepared by melting method of industrial raw materials at 1,400 °C. Then the porous ceramic scaffold of bioglass with 30, 40 and 50 wt% was prepared by using the polyurethane sponge replication method. The scaffolds were coated with poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (P3HB) for 30 s and 1 min in order to increase the scaffold's mechanical properties. XRD, XRF, SEM, FE-SEM and FT-IR were used for phase and component studies, morphology, particle size and determination of functional groups, respectively. XRD and XRF results showed that the type of the produced bioglass was 45S5. The results of XRD and FT-IR showed that the best temperature to produce bioglass scaffold was 600 °C, in which Na2Ca2Si3O9 crystal is obtained. By coating the scaffolds with P3HB, a composite scaffold with optimal porosity of 80-87% in 200-600 μm and compression strength of 0.1-0.53 MPa was obtained. According to the results of compressive strength and porosity tests, the best kind of scaffold was produced with 30 wt% of bioglass immersed for 1 min in P3HB. To evaluate the bioactivity of the scaffold, the SBF solution was used. The selected scaffold (30 wt% bioglass/6 wt% P3HB) was maintained for up to 4 weeks in this solution at an incubation temperature of 37 °C. The XRD, SEM EDXA and AAS tests were indicative of hydroxyapatite formation on the surface of bioactive scaffold. This scaffold has some potential to use in bone tissue engineering.

Regeneration of bone, cartilage and osteochondral tissues by tissue engineering has attracted intense attention due to its potential advantages over the traditional replacement of tissues with synthetic implants. Nevertheless, there is still a dearth of ideal or suitable scaffolds based on porous biomaterials, and the present study was undertaken to develop and evaluate a useful porous composite scaffold system. In this study, nano hydroxyapatite (nHAp) powder made (about 35-45 nm) by heating at temperature of 900 degrees C and porous hydroxyapatite (40, 50 and 60 wt% solution) for making scaffold, by using Polyurethane sponge replication method. In order to increase the scaffolds mechanical properties, they coated with 2, 4 and 6 wt% Poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (P3HB) for 30 sec and 60 sec, respectively; after the scaffold coated by Polymer and survey results, this scaffold is nHAp/P3HB composite. Based on these results, this scaffold is an optimized one among three tested above mentioned composition and can be utilized in bone tissue engineering. In the result, the best of scaffold is with 50 wt% HAp and 6 wt% P3HB and porosity of present is between 80-90% with compressive strength and modulus 1.51 MPa and 22.73 MPa, respectively, that it can be application in bone tissue engineering.
