The valorisation, protection and preservation policies for the underground building heritage are often difficult to implement due to an inadequate knowledge of hypogeal constructions. The complex and widespread underground structures of the vast “Cavo” Heritage (“horizontal wells”, “shelf wells” or “well tunnels”), so called qanāts, hidden underground and built over the centuries in Palermo, representing an evocative testimony to the history of water culture in the ancient city. Through the historical and constructive analyses and the implementation and development of measurement and 3D representation and visualization, first actions have been carried out. The paper will present the first results of the restoration project and the path of re-introduction in the fruition network of the qanāt “Gesuitico alto”, developed also in the field of “iHeritage. Mediterranean Platform for UNESCO Cultural Heritage” project, financed by ENI CBC MED Programme 2014–2020. The paper presents an experimentation of a procedural workflow of data acquisition, analysis and subsequent 3D virtual navigation of hypogeal environments. The methodology used is the SLAM with a last generation WMLS. The platform of virtual reality visualization, within UnReal Engine, allows the user to immerse and navigate in the anthropic environment by engaging it with a set of infographics that highlight the virtual visit.

Negli ultimi decenni si e assistito al progressivo innalzamento della temperatura globale del pia- neta causato dalle emissioni di gas serra nell’atmosfera: uno degli effetti più evidenti di tale sur- riscaldamento globale è il cosiddetto Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect che comporta un sensibile aumento delle temperature in corrispondenza delle aree urbane, con gravi danni sull’uomo e sull’ambiente. L’articolo riporta i risultati ottenuti attraverso la sperimentazione progettuale e le simulazioni analitiche condotte per valutare l’efficacia dell’utilizzo della vegetazione e dell’ac- qua nebulizzata come strategie combinate di mitigazione del microclima urbano in ambito Me- diterraneo, in cui sempre più frequentemente si verificano insostenibili ondate di calore durante la stagione estiva. La verifica di alcuni dei benefici derivabili dall’applicazione di tali strategie è stata condotta utilizzando software dedicati che hanno consentito di quantificare l’effettivo abbassamento delle temperature in uno spazio urbano coperto ottenuto grazie all’installazione di un “canopy verde”, una microarchitettura aperta, installabile in contesti urbani densamente edi- ficati qual è quello del centro storico di Palermo, luogo scelto per la sperimentazione. Lo studio è stato articolato in tre parti: la prima, dedicata ad una breve analisi del fenomeno dell’UHI e del surriscaldamento globale analizzando cause, conseguenze ed eventuali strategie utilizzabili per contrastarlo; la seconda, dedicata al progetto del “canopy verde”, una microarchitettura aperta – integrata con elementi vegetali e con nebulizzatori d’acqua – finalizzata al miglioramento del benessere outdoor delle utenze deboli durante le andate di calore estive; la terza, dedicata all’ana- lisi microclimatica dello scenario urbano ridefinito grazie all’inserimento della microarchitettura progettata e confrontato con lo stato di fatto, al fine di quantificare l’effettivo raffrescamento ottenuto e l’efficacia della soluzione progettuale proposta.

In this study, we evaluated the exposure of operating room personnel to non-coherent optical radiation by measuring the emission of blue light generated by operating lights. The values we obtained were largely below the exposure limit value of 100 W x m(-2) x sr(-1) provided by Legislative Decree no. 81/08 and European Directive 2006/25/EC, showing how workers can be exposed for longer than 8 hours without risk of acute health effects, confirming what was already said in literature. This work demonstrates, therefore, that the risk of acute nature of photochemical retinal damage, caused by exposure to blue light, is absent, if not exceeded the exposure limit values, on the basis of the current knowledge, however, respect for exposure level cannot protect against a possible retinal damage from chronic exposure, related to the total dose accumulated by the worker in the long-term.

In this paper we analyze the chemical composition of materials used daily in the field of Orthotics, Prosthetics and Assistive Technology, which act as the interface of contact between the prosthetic / orthotic element and the patient's skin. The methodology is experimental, using the wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence technique, applied to samples of wool and synthetic cloth. To perform these studies, we used special equipment belonging to the Management of Chemistry, National Atomic Energy Commission, and the measurements were made in collaboration with personnel of this institution.

Historically, building shape and structure have been designed, in solid construction, at the same moment. Their relationship is evident in the organization of the building inner space. On the contrary, in filigree construction, the interior space isn't often directly defined by the structure and the separation between building's interior and exterior is much more clear especially if we consider contemporary architectures where filigree structures are frequently used. The paper points out the role of structure in relation to the building shape in the contemporary age. Different architectures have been analysed (such as high-rise and free-form buildings) in order to put in evidence the criteria and the technologies used to build them and in order to underline the differences or similarities of the design approach used by the architects with the aim to re-veal -or not- the relation between structure and architecture.

The accidents have been esteemed that are verified in four years in a group of 824 employees. The study has underlined a meaningful percentage (30.1%) of road accidents. This suggests the opportunity of contemplate preventive actions: corrected maintenance of the ambulance, control of the conditions of environmental comfort, organization of the job, individualization of conditions that reduces the attention and the concentration, as the use of alcohol and of other substances.

And' is studied the noise exposure (with the calculation of the Lep,d) and the auditory function (with the method MPB 2002) in employed to the coffee's workmanship. The purpose was double. To deepen aspects a little studied thin to today and to compare the results with the "values limit of exposure" and the "values of exposure that make to go off the action" foreseen by the European directive 2003 of February 6th 2003. The data have underlined levels of noise below the inferior values of exposure that make to go off the action (80 dBAs) and absence of auditory effects from noise. The results suggest therefore the opportunity to extend the observations in other similar technological cycles, also to appraise other risks reported in literature as the cutaneous and respiratory allergies.

A noise level dosimetry and audiometric testing were conducted in a cellulose factory to determine the hazardous noise level and the prevalence of noise induced hearing loss among the exposed workers. The noise level was recorded up to 90 db (A) in several working areas. 18 workers, potentially exposed to noise injury, evidenced a significant hearing loss. While no evidence of noise injury was recorded in a control group of 100 subjects. This finding suggest a strict relationship between audiometric tests, the noise level recorded in the working place and the working seniority of exposed employers.

Fanconi's anaemia (FA) is an autosomal recessive mutation associated with constitutional chromosome aberrations. Patient's cells show increased susceptibility to different mutagens, especially bifunctional alkylating agents. Asymptomatic heterozygotes have a population prevalence of 1 in 300, and have been considered at risk for cancers. It has also been shown that their cells are especially sensitive to some chemicals in vitro. Laboratory tests are presented and discussed which are adequate for FA heterozygotes identification and for understandings the basic defect of this mutation.

OBJECTIVES: Based on the results of randomized clinical trials, bevacizumab plus chemotherapy is currently recommended as first­line treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). However, scant real­world data are available about effectiveness of bevacizumab­containing therapy used in patients with mCRC in Italy. The GRETA observational cohort study was designed for comparing overall survival (OS) of mCRC patients treated with first­line bevacizumab plus chemotherapy (B+CT), as compared to CT alone, in the real­world setting of Italian clinical practice, by linking cancer registries and healthcare utilization (HCU) databases. METHODS: Incident mCRC patients were identified during the period 2010­2012 from five population­based cancer registries, representing the 5.4% of the entire Italian population. Cases were linked to Regional HCU databases, in order to obtain the entire pathway of health services provided to each patient. Patients who started a first­line treatment with either B+CT or CT alone were included in the study cohort. A propensity score (PS) method was applied in order to take into account residual confounding. RESULTS: A study cohort of 480 subjects was selected, of which 101 received first­line B+CT and 379 CT alone. The median OS was 22.5 and 14.6 months in patients treated with or without bevacizumab, respectively (p=0.011). The corresponding adjusted hazard ratio (HR) was 0.82 (95% CI 0.62­1.08). The HR resulting from the PS matched analysis was 0.86 (95% CI 0.56­1.33). The gain in median OS was 8.3 months among patients aged less than 70 years (p=0.087) and 4.3 months among those aged 70 years or older (p=0.221). CONCLUSIONS: Despite not statistically significant, the addition of bevacizumab to CT showed a beneficial effect on OS, in the real­world clinical practice of mCRC patients in Italy. The gain in OS is comparable to that from the pivotal trial.
