Abstract

The first search for the lepton number violating decay K+→π0π−μ+e+ and lepton flavour violating decays K+→π0π+μ−e+, K+→π0π+μ+e− has been performed using a dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016–2018. Upper limits of 2.9×10−10, 3.1×10−10 and 5.0×10−10, respectively, are obtained at 90% CL for the branching ratios of the three decays on the assumption of uniform phase-space distributions.

Abstract

Abstract Measurement of the ultra-rare K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ decay at the NA62 experiment at CERN requires high-performance particle identification to distinguish muons from pions. Calorimetric identification currently in use, based on a boosted decision tree algorithm, achieves a muon misidentification probability of 1.2 × 10 −5 for a pion identification efficiency of 75% in the momentum range of 15–40 GeV/c. In this work, calorimetric identification performance is improved by developing an algorithm based on a convolutional neural network classifier augmented by a filter. Muon misidentification probability is reduced by a factor of six with respect to the current value for a fixed pion-identification efficiency of 75%. Alternatively, pion identification efficiency is improved from 72% to 91% for a fixed muon misidentification probability of 10 −5.

Abstract

Abstract A sample of 1.3 × 105 K + → π 0 e + νγ candidates with less than 1% background was collected by the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS in 2017–2018. Branching fraction measurements are obtained at percent relative precision in three restricted kinematic regions, improving on existing results by a factor larger than two. An asymmetry, possibly related to T-violation, is investigated with no evidence observed within the achieved precision.

Abstract

Abstract The NA62 experiment at CERN, designed to study the ultra-rare decay K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ \nu \overline{\nu} $$ , has also collected data in beam-dump mode. In this configuration, dark photons may be produced by protons dumped on an absorber and reach a decay volume beginning 80 m downstream. A search for dark photons decaying in flight to μ + μ − pairs is reported, based on a sample of 1.4 × 1017 protons on dump collected in 2021. No evidence for a dark photon signal is observed. A region of the parameter space is excluded at 90% CL, improving on previous experimental limits for dark photon masses between 215 and 550 MeV/c 2.

Abstract

A sample of 3984 candidates of the K+→π+γγ decay, with an estimated background of 291±14 events, was collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN during 2017–2018. In order to describe the observed di-photon mass spectrum, the next-to-leading order contribution in chiral perturbation theory was found to be necessary. The decay branching ratio in the full kinematic range is measured to be (9.61±0.17)×10−7. The first search for production and prompt decay of an axion-like particle with gluon coupling in the process K+→π+a, a→γγ is also reported.

Abstract The NA62 experiment at CERN targets the measurement of the ultra-rare K + → π + ν ν ¯ $$ {K}^{+}\to {\pi}^{+}\nu \overline{\nu} $$ decay, and carries out a broad physics programme that includes probes for symmetry violations and searches for exotic particles. Data were collected in 2016–2018 using a multi-level trigger system, which is described highlighting performance studies based on 2018 data.

Abstract

The first search for ultra-rare K+ decays into the π+e+e−e+e− final state is reported, using a dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2017–2018. An upper limit of 1.4×10−8 at 90% CL is obtained for the branching ratio of the K+→π+e+e−e+e− decay, predicted in the Standard Model to be (7.2±0.7)×10−11. Upper limits at 90% CL are obtained at the level of 10−9 for the branching ratios of two prompt decay chains involving pair-production of hidden-sector mediators: K+→π+aa, a→e+e− and K+→π+S, S→A′A′, A′→e+e−.

Abstract

Abstract A sample of 2.8 × 104 K + → π + μ + μ − candidates with negligible background was collected by the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS in 2017–2018. The model-independent branching fraction is measured to be (9.15 ± 0.08) × 10 −8, a factor three more precise than previous measurements. The decay form factor is presented as a function of the squared dimuon mass. A measurement of the form factor parameters and their uncertainties is performed using a description based on Chiral Perturbation Theory at O $$ \mathcal{O} $$ (p 6).

Abstract

A search for the K+→μ−νe+e+ decay, forbidden within the Standard Model by either lepton number or lepton flavour conservation depending on the flavour of the emitted neutrino, has been performed using the dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016–2018. An upper limit of 8.1×10−11 is obtained for the decay branching fraction at 90% CL, improving by a factor of 250 over the previous search.

Abstract

Searches for lepton number violating K+→π−e+e+ and K+→π−π0e+e+ decays have been performed using the complete dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016–2018. Upper limits of 5.3×10−11 and 8.5×10−10 are obtained on the decay branching fractions at 90% confidence level. The former result improves by a factor of four over the previous best limit, while the latter result represents the first limit on the K+→π−π0e+e+ decay rate.

23. Integration of a CAM Phaser on an Engine to Reduce Fuel Consumption: A Comprehensive Approach to the System

Abstract

The paper presented describes the application of a Continuously Variable Cam Phaser (CVCP) to an existing engine, with the scope of reducing significantly the engine specific fuel consumption at part load, through the reduction of pumping losses. A single vane-type cam phaser was adopted, which controls both intake and exhaust cam events simultaneously, thanks to the particular cam timing assembly used on the base engine (FIAT-GM Powertrain FIRE 1,4 16v). The cam phaser itself is powered by the same oil which lubricates the engine, through a three-way solenoid valve controlled by the Engine Management System (EMS) with an on-off duty cycle signal. The design and experimental activity done to introduce the CVCP on an existing engine is described, which must comply with a number of key features needed (advance and retard travel speed, precision in actuation, minimum oil leakage, no increase of oil pressure required, minimum additional oil mass flow required) and constraints required (reduced modifications of base engine and of production line, system cost). In particular the base engine structure, which features cam timing command through toothed belt, limited room in the cylinder head for oil and blow-by gases, hydraulic tappets, wide camshaft bearing diameter, no external oil/gas separator, determined the need to limit the overall oil mass flow within the cylinder head: this was required to avoid possible oil recirculation into the intake manifold through the crankcase venting system. For this and other reasons, an accurate and comprehensive optimization of all the components involved in the above described system was needed. An extensive experimental activity was performed, which included the cam phaser design optimization, the re-definition of camshaft bearing and hydraulic tappet clearances, the re-design of piston rings, some prescriptions for the cam phaser control strategies and calibration of the EMS. This development work achieved a system definition which solves all the main problems described above, with no additional costs with respect to (w.r.t.) the first version of the CVCP engine, since no additional parts have been required nor particular material or machining or configurations were prescribed. The described engine is currently in its industrialization phase: it is planned to produce about 1000 engines/day in the Italian FIRE engine manufacturing plant (Termoli).

Abstract

The tighter limits introduced by EURO3 and EURO4 regulations involve the adoption of exhaust configurations, in which the converter is located close to the manifold, in order to reduce light off time, and so to obtain lower emissions. This type of configuration introduces new problems relative to optimisation of the exhaust manifold geometry, which is no longer only linked to engine performance, but also has to guarantee the best possible operation of the exhaust gas treatment system. Critical parameters include lambda probe positioning and impingement of the gas flow, along with establishment of a flow field that corresponds to the catalytic converter intake area, as imposed by well known requests of reliability and functionality. The present work is aimed at integrated modelling and experimental optimisation of exhaust manifold geometry, with regard to oxygen sensor positioning and catalyst intake flow distribution, to find the best compromise between engine performance and exhaust emissions control.Copyright © 2002 by ASME

These studies include development and evaluation of atmospheric transport and dispersion models, interfacing of data processing and communications systems, supporting meteorological field experiments, and integration of radiological measurements and model results into real-time assessments.

Abstract

Engine exhaust emission limits have been subject to increasingly severe controls during the last few years. This has led to the need for a suitably structured systemic approach to the problem of exhaust gas treatment, instead of just focusing on improving catalytic converters efficiency, in other words, it has become increasingly more productive, and necessary, to carry out “global” optimization of the chemical conversion process generally present when gases are burnt, along with activities aimed directly at reduce the cause of their creation, acting on the engine geometric and operating parameters. 30. Conversion of VOC-derived CO 2 into sustainable products with a natural magnetic alginate composite.

Abstract

In this study, we developed a sustainable nanocatalyst, AXFe, by functionalizing magnetite nanoparticles with an alginate-xanthine conjugate (AX). This hybrid material combines magnetite's adsorption and photocatalytic properties with the CO 2 fixation capabilities of alginate and xanthine. AXFe exhibited exceptional performance in the photocatalytic mineralization of toluene under simulated solar irradiation, achieving a 61.5 % conversion to CO 2 . Furthermore, the catalyst facilitated efficient CO 2 fixation into cyclic carbonates, achieving high yields under mild conditions (70 °C, 1 atm CO 2 ). CO 2 adsorption studies revealed enhanced capture efficiency due to the synergistic interaction between AX and magnetite. The material also demonstrated excellent reusability, enabling magnetic recovery and maintaining over 90 % catalytic activity for four cycles. This straightforward synthesis from natural substrates and its versatility in tackling VOCs and CO 2 highlight AXFe as a promising tool for sustainable pollution mitigation and resource recovery. This dual-functionality catalysis significantly enhances the overall process efficiency while adhering to the core principles of green chemistry. Abstract

The current environmental consciousness of the world's population encourages researchers to work on new materials that are environmentally benign and able to display the appropriate features for the needed application. To develop high-performing, inexpensive eco-materials, scientists have frequently turned to nature, attempting to mimic its processes' excellent performance at a reasonable price. In this regard, we decided to focus on alginic acid (AA), a polysaccharide widely found in brown algae, and kojic acid (KA), a chelating agent fungi produces. This study proposes rapidly synthesizing a sustainable, biocompatible material (AK) based on AA and KA, employing chlorokojic acid (CKA). The material has a dual function: antibacterial activity on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, without any cytotoxic action on human cells in vitro, and catalytic ability to convert CO 2 into cyclic carbonates at atmospheric pressure, without solvents, with high yields, and without the use of metals. Furthermore, the material's insolubility in organic solvents allows it to be easily separated from the reaction product and reused for other catalytic cycles. Abstract

The NA62 experiment at CERN, configured in beam-dump mode, has searched for dark photon decays in flight to electron-positron pairs using a sample of 1.4×10^{17} protons on dump collected in 2021. No evidence for a dark photon signal is observed. The combined result for dark photon searches in lepton-antilepton final states is presented and a region of the parameter space is excluded at 90% confidence level, improving on previous experimental limits for dark photon mass values between 50 and 600  MeV/c^{2} and coupling values in the range 10^{-6} to 4×10^{-5}. An interpretation of the e^{+}e^{-} search result in terms of the emission and decay of an axionlike particle is also presented.

33. TiO 2 /Loofah-Halloysite Bio-Hybrid Composites as Efficient Systems for VOCs Removal.

Abstract

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), recognized as hazardous air contaminants, prompt the exploration of sustainable air purification methods. Solar photocatalytic oxidation emerges as a promising solution, utilizing semiconductor photocatalysts like titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ). However, the raw material crisis necessitates reduced TiO 2 usage, leading to investigations into TiO 2 modification techniques. The study introduces a novel approach by employing natural fibers, specifically loofah sponge, as a TiO 2 support. This method aims to maintain photocatalytic activity while minimizing TiO 2 content. The article explores using halloysite, a natural clay mineral, as a supportive material, enhancing mechanical strength and adsorption properties. The resulting TiO 2 /loofah-halloysite composites are evaluated for their efficacy in gas-phase photocatalytic oxidation of toluene and ethanol, chosen as representative VOCs. The conversion of toluene and ethanol on the composite was 88 % and 39 %, respectively, with high selectivity toward CO 2 . In addition to its high performance, the bio-composite was stable for several conversion cycles, keeping the conversion activity unchanged. 34. Toxicity of Titanium Dioxide-Cerium Oxide Nanocomposites to Zebrafish Embryos: A Preliminary Evaluation.

Abstract

The widespread use of metal nanoparticles in different fields has raised many doubts regarding their possible toxicity to living organisms and the accumulation and discharge of metals in fish species. Among these nanoparticles, titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) and cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) nanoparticles have mainly been employed in photocatalysis and water depuration. The aim of this research was to evaluate the potential toxic effects, after a co-exposure of TiO 2 -3%CeO 2 nanoparticles, on zebrafish development, using an acute toxicity test. Increasing concentrations of TiO 2 -3%CeO 2 nanoparticles were used (0.1-1-10-20 mg/L). The heartbeat rate was assessed using Danioscope TM software (version 1.2) (Noldus, Leesburg, VA, USA), and the responses to two biomarkers of exposure (Heat shock proteins-70 and Metallothioneins) were evaluated through immunofluorescence. Our results showed that the co-exposure to TiO 2 -3%CeO 2 nanoparticles did not affect the embryos' development compared to the control group; a significant difference ( p < 0.05) at 48 hpf heartbeat for the 1, 10, and 20 mg/L groups was found compared to the unexposed group. A statistically significant response ( p < 0.05) to Heat shock proteins-70 (Hsp70) was shown for the 0.1 and 1 mg/L groups, while no positivity was observed in all the exposed groups for Metallothioneins (MTs). These results suggest that TiO 2 -3%CeO 2 nanocomposites do not induce developmental toxicity; instead, when considered separately, TiO 2 and CeO 2 NPs are harmful to zebrafish embryos, as previously shown.

35. Total Bio-Based Material for Drug Delivery and Iron Chelation to Fight Cancer through Antimicrobial Activity.

Abstract

Bacterial involvement in cancer's development, along with their impact on therapeutic interventions, has been increasingly recognized. This has prompted the development of novel strategies to disrupt essential biological processes in microbial cells. Among these approaches, metal-chelating agents have gained attention for their ability to hinder microbial metal metabolism and impede critical reactions. Nanotechnology has also contributed to the antibacterial field by offering various nanomaterials, including antimicrobial nanoparticles with potential therapeutic and drug-delivery applications. Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are naturally occurring tubular clay nanomaterials composed of aluminosilicate kaolin sheets rolled multiple times. The aluminum and siloxane groups on the surface of HNTs enable hydrogen bonding with biomaterials, making them versatile in various domains, such as environmental sciences, wastewater treatment, nanoelectronics, catalytic studies, and cosmetics. This study aimed to create an antibacterial material by combining the unique properties of halloysite nanotubes with the iron-chelating capability of kojic acid. A nucleophilic substitution reaction involving the hydroxyl groups on the nanotubes' surface was employed to functionalize the material using kojic acid. The resulting material was characterized using infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and its iron-chelating ability was assessed. Furthermore, the potential for drug loading-specifically, with resveratrol and curcumin-was evaluated through ultraviolet (UV) analysis. The antibacterial assay was evaluated following CLSI guidelines. The results suggested that the HNTs-kojic acid formulation had great antibacterial activity against all tested pathogens. The outcome of this work yielded a novel bio-based material with dual functionality as a drug carrier and an antimicrobial agent. This innovative approach holds promise for addressing challenges related to bacterial infections, antibiotic resistance, and the development of advanced therapeutic interventions.

Abstract

A nanodelivery system based on palladium nanoparticles (PdNP) and cisplatin (CisPt) was developed by physisorption of the drug onto the PdNP synthesized via a green redox process, using d-glucose and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as reducing and stabilizing/capping agents, respectively. UV-vis analysis and H 2 -evolution measurements were carried out to prove the nanoparticles' capability to act as bimodal theranostic nanomedicine, i.e., having both plasmonic and photocatalytic properties. XPS, XRD, and TEM allowed light to be shed on the chemical composition and morphology of the PdNP. The analysis of the UV-visible spectra evidenced plasmonic peak changes for the hybrid nanoparticle-drug assembly (Pd@CisPt), which pointed to a significant interaction of CisPt with the NP surface. The drug loading was quantitatively estimated by ICP-OES measurements, while DLS and AFM confirmed the strong association of the drug with the nanoparticle surface. The test of SOD-like activity in a cell-free environment proved the maintenance of the antioxidant capability of PdNP also in the Pd@CisPt systems. Finally, Pd@CisPt tested in prostate cancer cells (PC-3 line) unveiled the antitumoral action of the developed nanomedicine, related to reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, with a condition of protein misfolding/unfolding and DNA damage, as evidenced by cytotoxicity and MitoSOX assays, as well as Raman microspectroscopy, respectively. Cell imaging by confocal microscopy evidenced cellular uptake of the nanoparticles, as well as dynamic processes of copper ion accumulation at the level of subcellular compartments. Finally, cell migration studies upon treatment with Pd@CisPt evidenced a tunable response between the inhibitory effect of CisPt and the enhanced rate of cell migration for the metal NP alone, which pointed out the promising potential of the developed theranostic nanomedicine in tissue regeneration.

37. CeO 2 -rGO Composites for Photocatalytic H 2 Evolution by Glycerol Photoreforming.

Abstract

The interaction between CeO 2 -GO or CeO 2 -rGO and gold as co-catalysts were here investigated for solar H 2 production by photoreforming of glycerol. The materials were prepared by a solar photoreduction/deposition method, where in addition to the activation of CeO 2 the excited electrons were able to reduce the gold precursor to metallic gold and the GO into rGO. The presence of gold was fundamental to boost the H 2 production, whereas the GO or the rGO extended the visible-light activity of cerium oxide (as confirmed by UV-DRS). Furthermore, the strong interaction between CeO 2 and Au (verified by XPS and TEM) led to good stability of the CeO 2 -rGO-Au sample with the evolved H 2 that increased during five consecutive runs of glycerol photoreforming. This catalytic behaviour was ascribed to the progressive reduction of GO into rGO, as shown by Raman measurements of the photocatalytic runs. The good charge carrier separation obtained with the CeO 2 -rGO-Au system allowed the simultaneous production of H 2 and reduction of GO in the course of the photoreforming reaction. These peculiar features exhibited by these unconventional photocatalysts are promising to propose new solar-light-driven photocatalysts for green hydrogen production.

Abstract

A set of metals modified TiO 2 photocatalysts were prepared starting from titanium tetraisopropoxyde and different metal precursors to study the influence of the addition of the various foreign agents on the physico-chemical and photocatalytic properties of the catalysts. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, specific surface area measurements, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence, temperature programmed desorption after CO 2 adsorption. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated using as probe reactions the partial oxidation of three aromatic alcohols: benzyl alcohol (BA), 4-methoxy benzyl alcohol (4-MBA), and 4-hydroxy benzyl alcohol (4-HBA) under simulated solar light irradiation. Different oxidation and selectivity values were obtained for the three substrates depending not only on the type of metals but also on the nature and position of the substituent in the phenyl ring of benzyl alcohol. As a general behaviour, the doped samples allowed the achievement of a greater selectivity especially for 4-MBA even if sometimes with minor conversions. 40. One-Pot Synthesis of TiO 2 -rGO Photocatalysts for the Degradation of Groundwater Pollutants.

Abstract

A non-conventional approach to prepare titanium dioxide-reduced graphene oxide (TiO 2 -rGO) nanocomposites based on solar photoreduction is here presented. The standard hydro-solvothermal synthesis of the TiO 2 -rGO composites requires high temperatures and several steps, whereas the proposed one-pot preparation allows one to obtain the photocatalysts with a simple and green procedure, by exploiting the photocatalytic properties of titania activated by the solar irradiation. The TiO 2 -rGO catalysts were tested in the solar photodegradation of a widely adopted toxic herbicide (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2,4-D), obtaining the 97% of degradation after 3 h of irradiation. The as-prepared TiO 2 -rGO composites were more active compared to the same photocatalysts prepared through the conventional thermal route. The structural, optical, and textural properties of the composites, determined by Raman, Photoluminescence, Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR), UV-vis diffuse reflectance (DRS) spectroscopies, and N 2 absorption-desorption measurements, showed as the solar irradiation favors the reduction of graphene oxide with higher efficiency compared to the thermal-driven synthesis. Furthermore, the possible toxicity of the as-synthesized composites was measured exposing nauplii of microcrustacean Artemia sp. to solutions containing TiO 2 -rGO. The good results in the 2,4-D degradation process and the easiness of the TiO 2 -rGO synthesis allow to consider the proposed approach a promising strategy to obtain performing photocatalysts.

41. Nanosponges based on self-assembled starfish-shaped cucurbit[6]urils functionalized with imidazolium arms.

Abstract

A new porous material based on the first supramolecular cucurbituril-based nanosponge was synthesized by the functionalization of cucurbit[6]uril with twelve 1-(2-bromoethyl)-3-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium arms. The porous structure and the high adsorption capacity were demonstrated through surface area measurements and carbon dioxide adsorption. The new supramolecular sponge showed attractive properties such as (i) a highly porous structure that allowed CO 2 capture, (ii) the possibility to reuse the adsorbed CO 2 for organic synthesis, and (iii) an exciting thermal stability up to around 800 °C, with the potential use of this material in high temperature reactions. Finally, the reuse of CO 2 was successfully investigated in the carboxylation reaction of phenylacetylene.

42. A Facile One-Pot Approach to the Synthesis of Gd-Eu Based Metal-Organic Frameworks and Applications to Sensing of Fe 3+ and Cr 2 O 7 2- Ions.

Abstract

Gadolinium metal-organic frameworks (Gd-MOFs) and Eu-doped Gd-MOFs have been synthesized through a one-pot green approach using commercially available reagents. The 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H 2 -BDC) and 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H 2 -NDC) were chosen as ditopic organic linkers to build the 3D structure of the network. The Gd-MOFs were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and N 2 adsorption-desorption analysis. The Gd-MOF structures were attributed comparing the XRD patterns, supported by the FT-IR spectra, with data reported in the literature for Ln-MOFs of similar lanthanide ionic radius. FE-SEM characterization points to the effect of the duration of the synthesis to a more crystalline and organized structure, with grain dimensions increasing upon increasing reaction time. The total surface area of the MOFs has been determined from the application of the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. The study allowed us to correlate the processing conditions and ditopic linker dimension to the network surface area. Both Gd-MOF and Eu-doped Gd-MOF have been tested for sensing of the inorganic ions such as Fe 3+ and Cr 2 O 7 2- .

Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials have received much attention in recent years, because of their unusual properties associated with their ultra-thin thickness and 2D morphology. Besides graphene, a new 2D material, molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ), has attracted immense interest in various applications. On the other hand, ball-milling process provides an original strategy to modify materials at the nanometer scale. This methodology represents a smart solution for the fabrication of MoS 2 nanopowders extremely-efficient in adsorbing water contaminants in aqueous solution. This work reports a comprehensive morphological, structural, and physicochemical investigation of MoS 2 nanopowders treated with dry ball-milling. The adsorption performances of the produced nanopowders were tested using methylene blue (MB) dye and phenol in aqueous solution. The adsorption capacity as a function of ball-milling time was deeply studied and explained. Importantly, the ball-milled MoS 2 nanopowders can be easily and efficiently regenerated without compromising their adsorption capacity, so to be reusable for dye adsorption. The eventual toxic effects of the prepared materials on microcrustacean Artemia salina were also studied. The present results demonstrate that ball-milling of MoS 2 offers a valid method for large-scale production of extremely efficient adsorbent for the decontamination of wastewaters from several pollutants.

45. Laser processing of TiO 2 colloids for an enhanced photocatalytic water splitting activity.

Abstract

We have measured the photocatalytic water splitting activity of several titania colloids, modified by nanosecond pulsed laser irradiation. Photocatalysis has been tested using UV and visible light. We have found that laser irradiation increases the hydrogen production efficiency up to a factor of three for anatase, rutile and P25. A hydrogen production rate as high as 30mmolg -1 h -1 has been obtained with good stability, tested by repeated runs. The chemical and morphological properties of the nanoparticles have been studied by electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, showing that laser irradiation promotes the formation of disordered surface state and lattice distortion which could be responsible for the observed enhanced photocatalytic activity., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier Inc.
