A bone conduction screening test was developed utilizing frontal bone oscillator placement. One hundred and fourteen preschool children were tested using a pure-tone air-conduction screening procedure, an impedance audiometry screening procedure (automatic tympanometry and ipsilateral reflex stimulation at 1000Hz), and the unoccluded bone conduction screening test. Unoccluded frontal bone conduction testing produced screening results that were not significantly different from results obtained utilizing impedance audometry.

Masking Level Difference (MLD) testing has become an important addition to clinical audiology test batteries. Although data are available relating the MLD to a variety of pathological conditions, little information exists dealing with learning disabled individuals. This study presents normative MLD data for a population of 90 learning disabled individuals. Implications for the auditory assessment of the Learning Disabled as well as for the establishment of "local" MLD norms are discussed.

The Masking Level Difference (MLD) is a difference score which measures binaural release from masking. Masking level differences have been studied extensively in both normal and abnormal populations over the past decade and a half. Only recently has the effect of suspected auditory perceptual problems on MLD's been investigated. Profiles of three patients having extremely reduced masking level difference results are reported. It is suggested that tests of the MLD appear to be a useful adjunct of an evaluation battery for patients with presumed auditory perceptual problems.

A dysynchronous child, according to Battin and Kraft (1971), is one who is out of phase with his/her environments: home, school, or peers. Although this condition may be present even before birth, repeated middle ear infection may exacerbate it. A case study is reported describing various test results obtained from this type of child. The importance of audiologic testing in such cases is explained.

Vestibular, audiological and X-ray findings on 25 surgically confirmed neurinoma cases were reviewed to determine the diagnostic sensitivity of each in the neurinoma test battery. A comprehensive, retrocochlear audiological and vestibular work-up was run. X-ray procedures included posterior fossa myelograms in all but one instance, with all of the patients complaining of some auditory difficulties; progressive hearing loss and tinnitus were the most common complaints with tinnitus as the earliest symptom. Thirty-six percent of the cases had a retrocochlear audiological pattern, while 60 percent manifested a mixed cochlear and retrocochlear pattern, the remaining 4 percent presented cochlear findings. A correlation between audiological findings and standard X-ray views revealed that 32 percent of the cases presented equivocal audiometric and negative X-ray findings, while myelogram were performed on 24 percent of the patients, and all but two. cases were positive. One of these cases revealed negative findings, and the other was equivocal. Our clinical findings indicated that a routine vestibular work-up provided the indication for a more progressive neurinoma evaluation.
