Abstract

A long-term new experimental program has begun at GANIL, i.e. search for new super heavy nuclei and their structure. The first part consists in studying the structure of the 273110 isotope which involves the development of high intensity Se beam. In parallel, reactions involving Inverse Kinematics will be studied allowing to have a versatileness set-up. By adding germanium and electron detectors, spectroscopic studies could be made on trans-fermium elements. Preliminary results showed that the Wien Filter has a suppression of the incident beam with a 1010 factor, which is comparable with results elsewhere. We show recent results with the present set-up at GANIL in producing Fr isotopes in the Kr+Sb reaction. We present also the result of our Kr+Pb experiment, which tried to reproduce the Berkeley result of the element 118.

Abstract

Experiments on the production and study of superheavy nuclei have been undertaken at GANIL taking advantages of the powerful velocity filter LISE3 and the high intensity ECR ion sources. A complete set-up has been built: - reaction chamber containing large rotating wheels, - slits and beam profiler at mid-filter, - detection chamber with time-of-flight and Silicon detectors for identifying evaporation residues and their decay products. The response was checked via fusion reactions with known cross sections producing known alpha-decay chains and fission fragments. Excellent transmission of evaporation residues and rejection factor for the primary beam were obtained. This device is presented together with the results obtained in our last experiments and our future plans are discussed., proceeding to the ASR2001 Conference, Tokai, Japan, november 2001, to be published in the Journal of Nuclear and Radiiochemical Sciences (june 2002)

7. Third-order perturbation calculations in nuclear matter for realistic potentials

Abstract

The particle-ladder diagrams up to third order in the basic interaction are calculated for nuclear matter with some recent local soft-core potentials. A detailed comparison to the G-matrix results is carried out. The prescription of zero potential energy for states above the Fermi sea is used. For the de Tourreil-Sprung (dTS) interaction the total third order contribution is 17% of the second order. The de Tourreil-Rouben-Sprung (TRS) potential shows poor convergence in the triplet-odd subspace. A new set of triplet-odd parameters is defined, and the overall convergence for the modified TRS is only slightly less rapid than that for dTS.

Abstract

In view of practical nuclear structure calculations the Paris $N\ensuremath{-}N$ potential is parametrized in a simple analytical form. This parametrization consists of a regularized discrete superposition of Yukawa-type terms. Results for phase shifts and deuteron parameters are presented as well as nuclear matter binding energy obtained with this potential.NUCLEAR REACTIONS Nucleon-nucleon interaction, parametrization of the Paris $N\ensuremath{-}N$ potential. 0 to 330 MeV $N\ensuremath{-}N$ phase shifts.

Abstract

An improved version of the super-soft-core interaction is presented. The known π-, ρ- and gw-exchange contributions are incorporated, while the core and the remainder of the intermediate range are treated phenomenologically. The potential gives a high-quality fit to the two-body bound-state and scattering data up to 350 MeV. The amplitudes are weak in the sense that in nuclear matter, the ratio of second-order to first-order energy perturbations (for the scalar components) are in the region 20–30%. The wound integral κ = 0.077 at kF = 1.4 fm−1. The triplet-even tensor component is weaker than in other phenomenological potentials, but the deuteron form factor is well reproduced. The percentage D-state is 5.92%.

Abstract

Resume L'influence des differentes proprietes du nucleide fissile et de ses produits de fission sur l'activite de ces derniers a ete testee. Dans ce but le systeme d'equations differentielles couplees decrivant le probleme a ete resolu exactement en tenant compte des sections efficaces de capture neutronique des produits de fission. La comparison directe avec les resultats experimentaux de 235U dans le cas d'une ‘fission e1ementaire' a permis de mettre notamment en evidence l'influence de la distribution de charge et celle des produits de fission dont seul la periode est connue. I1 a měme ete possible de donner avec precision les criteres de validite des calculs. Les activtes des produits de fission de 235U et 233Pu ont ensuite ete calculees pour differentes durees d'irradiation et de desactivation. L'influence des sections efficaces de capture neutronique des produits de fission est mice en evidence en faisant varier le niveau de flux neutronique. On montre alors qu'a partir d'un niveau de flux de l'ordre de 1014 n/cm2 s, l'influence des sections efficaces de capture neutronique des produits de fission peut devenir importante.

13. Pairing approximation in spherical nuclei — II

Abstract

The pairing theory (BCS-method) is applied to spherical nuclei in order to calculate some characteristic physical properties. The main points are: i) insertion of an effective (realistic) two-nucleon force in the pairing matrix elements; ii) definition of a phenomenological nuclear potential in order to determine the single-particle states. The effective two-nucleon interaction was obtained from the Hamada-Johnston expression by means of a Scott-Moszkowski procedure; the complete set of nuclear potentials (of Saxon-Woods type) contains 5 constants which were determined from specific nuclear properties (empirical determination of the self-consistent field occurring in a Hartree-Bogoliubov treatment). The gap equation was solved numerically taking into account all relevant single-particle states. The final results (separation energies and quasi-particle excitations) as well as the corresponding empirical data are plotted simultaneously as functions of the nucleon numbers (Fig. 4 and 5). There is a satisfactory agreement just within the spherical regions; in particular the correspondence between the typical irregularities at the magic numbers and between the characteristic variations of the quasi-particle levels and of the pairing energies should be emphasized.

A phenomenologieal local nucleon-nucleon potential has been constructed satisfying the following criteria: a high-quality fit to two-body bound-state and scattering data up to 350 MeV; the amplitudes of all components are weak in the sense that perturbation theory in nuclear matter converges rapidly; the tensor force in the triplet even state is much weaker than in other potential models. Close agreement is found between Brueckner-theory and perturbation-theory calculations in nuclear matter. The deuteron form factor is well reproduced with PD = 5.5%.

Abstract

Resume Dans ce travail nous presentons une etude comparative entre les differentes mesures experimentales concernant les taux de desintegration et les puissances residuelles β et γ avec les predictions theoriques obtenues a partir des proprietes des produits de fission dans le cas le plus sensible d'une seule fission thermique de 235 U et 239 Pu. De cette etude nous pouvons conclure que (i) meme dans le cas le mieux etudie ( 235 U) les divergences entre les differents resultats experimentaux sont considerablement plus grandes que les erreurs estimees ceci etant du aux difficultes de normalisation; (ii) les resultats theoriques obtenus a partir des proprietes des produits de fission presentent une precision meilleure que 30 pour cent et 15 pour cent respectivement pour les puissances residuelles β et γ pour des temps de refroidissement 10 2 ⩽ τ ⩽ 10 3 sec et meilleure que queluqes pour cent pour ces memes puissances residuelles lorsque τ > 10 3 sec.

Resume Dans ce travail nous presentons une nouvelle mesure, ainsi qu'une comparaison avec un calcul theorique base sur les proprietes des produits de fission se rapportant aux puissances residuelles (β + γ), γ et β dues a une fission elementaire produite par un spectre d'un reacteur rapide. Ces resultats nous permettent de conclure que: (1) De nouvelles mesures sont necessaires afin de confirmer la precision des evaluations theoriques pour des temps de refoidissement τ ⩽ 108 sec. (2) Le bon accord avec les mesures calorimetriques montre que la precision du calcul theorique est meilleure que 5 per cent lorsque le temps de refroidissement τ ⩾ 103 secondes. Tenant compte du fait que la connaissance des proprietes des produits de fission est la meme lorsque τ ⩾ 103 secondes, nous pouvons esperer la meme conclusion dans l'intervalle de refroidissement 103 ⩽ τ ⩽ 106 secondes, malgre l'absence de mesures precises durant cette periode de refroidissement. (3) Lorsque la duree de refroidissement τ ⩽ 103 secondes, les memes conclusions que daps la publication II restent valables.

Abstract

Separation energies as determined from nuclidic masses exhibit in a striking way the characteristic features of shell structure if plotted in a suitable three-dimensional scheme1. Our aim is to check this experimental behaviour numerically with the help of explicit shell-model calculations. It is shown that a rather good agreement is actually obtained if the independent particle levels of shell-structure are corrected with the help of the BCS pairing theory. This means that the direct interactions between individual nucleons are taken into account in a suitable approximation.

Abstract

It is by now well known that the elastic scattering data do not require the nucleon-nucleon potential to contain infinite or even strong finite repulsion at short distance. This was shown in the 1S0 state by Srivastava and Sprung1 who constructed a number of ‘super soft core’ potentials whose maximum repulsion ranged from 70 MeV to 260 MeV. A rough criterion for an SSC potential is that in nuclear matter the second order perturbation theory terms are 10 to 20% of the corresponding first order ones. At about the same time, Pires, de Tourreil and Gogny (PDG)2 presented a complete potential, choosing as radial form a sum of gaussians. Their intention was to fit not only the elastic scattering data, but also nuclear matter saturation properties and the radii of finite nuclei in the Hartree Fock approximation. Modest agreement with all three criteria was obtained, but at the expense of a high quality fit to phase shifts, especially in the singlet odd state.

Abstract

We have constructed a nucleon-nucleon potentiel(1) which possesses: i) a fundamental theoretical long and medium range part. ii) a short range soft core, the parameters of which are adjusted to fit all the nucleon nucleon phases (J ≤ 6) up to 350 MeV as well as the deuteron parameters. iii) an energy dependence which, to a good approximation, is linear. This simple energy dependence can be, in turn, easily transformed into a velocity dependence.
