Aim: The aim of this study is to explore the association between red blood cell distribution width-to-albumin ratio (RAR) and the risk of peripheral artery disease (PAD) in patients with diabetes. Methods: This cross-sectional study extracted the data of 1,125 participants with diabetes from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database. A weighted univariable logistic regression model was used to explore variables associated with PAD. With PAD as the outcome variable, a weighted logistic regression model was established. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were effect size. Results: After adjusting for covariates, the risk of PAD in patients with diabetes was observed in those with higher RAR (OR = 1.83; 95% CI: 1.06-3.15). In addition, RAR =3.25 was related to increased risk of PAD in patients with diabetes (OR = 2.04; 95% CI: 1.05-3.95). In people with diabetes aged =65, RAR was a risk factor for PAD with an OR value of 2.67 (95% CI: 1.30-5.46). RAR =3.25 was associated with increased risk of PAD (OR = 3.06; 95% CI: 1.15-8.11) relative to RAR <2.80. In people with diabetes who smoked, the risk of PAD was elevated in those with RAR =3.25 (OR = 2.85; 95% CI: 1.28-6.32). As for patients with cardiovascular disease, the risk of PAD was elevated as the increase of RAR (OR = 2.31; 95% CI: 1.05-5.10). RAR =3.25 was correlated with increased risk of PAD (OR = 3.75; 95% CI: 1.42-9.87). The area under the curve of RAR for the risk of PAD in patients with diabetes was 0.631 (95% CI: 0.588-0.675). Conclusion: A higher RAR was related to increased risk of PAD in patients with diabetes. The findings might offer a reference for the management of PAD in patients with diabetes. Objective:There is a need for inexpensive, reliable and readily available biomarkers in the early diagnosis and prediction of mortality, morbidity and treatment response in colorectal cancer (CRC). In our study, it was aimed to compare mean platelet volume (MPV), red cell distribution width (RDW) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) measurements in operated and non-operated patients with the diagnosis of CRC.Method:In our study, we retrospectively reviewed 52 patients (including 26 operated patients and 26 non-operated patients) diagnosed as CRC with colonoscopic biopsy at endoscopy unit of gastroenterology department between 2016 and 2019. We extracted and compared demographic, colonoscopy, clinical, laboratory and surgical data in both groups.Results:In our study, the mean age (60.04 years and 64.19 years, respectively) and gender distribution (female: male, 12: 14 and 11: 15, respectively) were comparable in operated and non-operated patients with CRC. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is known for its dismal prognosis, though its dependence on patients' readily available RBCs parameters is not fully established. In this work, 170 GBM patients, diagnosed and treated in Soroka University Medical Center (SUMC) over the last 12 years were retrospectively inspected for their survival dependency on pre-operative RBCs parameters. Besides KPS and tumor resection supplemented by oncological treatment, age under 70 (HR = 0.4, 95% CI 0.24–0.65, p = 0.00073), low hemoglobin level (HR = 1.79, 95% CI 1.06–2.99, p = 0.031), and Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) < 14% (HR = 0.57, 95% CI 0.37–0.88, p = 0.018) were found to be prognostic of patients' overall survival in multivariate analysis, accounting for a false discovery rate of < 5% due to multiple hypothesis testing. According to these results, a stratification tree was made, from which a favorable route highlighted a subgroup of nearly 30% of the cohorts' patients whose median overall survival was 21.1 months (95% CI 16.2–27.2)—higher than the established chemo-radiation standard first-line treatment regimen overall median survival average of about 15 months. The beneficial or detrimental effect of RBCs parameters on GBM prognosis and its possible causes is discussed.

Studies have shown that it is a prognostic marker in non - anemic diabetic patients with symptomatic cardiovascular disease but its correlation with cardiac failure in diabetics has not been studied so far. Moreover, studies have also shown that a higher RDW may reflect an underlying inflammatory state. Since Diabetes is a pro inflammatory state there is a possibility that it might have an influence on the RDW values even when there is no cardiac failure, but research data on this aspect is lacking. B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a proven marker for cardiac failure whose values are comparable with echo cardio graphic findings in assessing the left ventricular dysfunction. Aim and Objectives: This study aimed to find out the correlation between RDW% and serum BNP levels in Diabetics with heart failure (cases) when compared to those without failure (controls). Further, we compared the RDW % values of the cases with controls. Settings and Design : The study was approved by institutional ethical and research committee. A cross-sectional study was conducted with patients attending the Diabetes clinic of a tertiary care hospital in Chennai, India, during the period of October to December 2013. Hundred age and gender matched diabetics with negative history of cardiovascular disease and with normal Echo cardio graphic features were included as controls. Further, RDW% showed a statistically significant difference between cases and controls., Conclusion: RDW% can be used as a screening parameter to identify cardiac failure in Diabetic patients similar to non-diabetic cardiac failure. RDW% values are significantly higher in cases of Diabetes with failure in comparison to uncomplicated Diabetes.
