In this paper, a fixed support method for a cryogenic monocrystalline silicon Fabry-Pérot cavity of an ultra-stable laser for space applications is proposed. Through finite element analysis, the vibration sensitivity at the center of the cavity is below 10E-12/g; the fundamental frequency is 381 Hz; the thermal deformation is compensated by applying a preload force of about 3 N*m for a variation of 300 K to 124 K. Based on these analyses, an equal-mass cavity simulator was machined and mounted. The mounting process was then explored to keep its support angle mounting error within 40′. Next, the simulator was vibration tested, and the deviation of the cavity after the test was within 10″. Finally, the thermal deformation of the simulator and the support performance of the PEEK cylinders at 77 K was briefly verified. • There is concern about trustworthiness of RCTs on hysteroscopy. • Concerns include retrospective registration and participant dropout. The objective of this study was to assess the publication status of RCTs studying hysteroscopy registered on clinical trial registries, and the trustworthiness of these studies. We systematically searched 23 clinical trial registries and MEDLine for studies on hysteroscopy registered between March 2012 and 25 March 2022. Published RCTs were assessed for trustworthiness using the Trustworthiness in RAndomised Controlled Trials (TRACT) checklist. Authors of studies with an unknown outcome were contacted. In total, 576 registered and/or published RCTs were identified. We excluded 13 studies not reported in English, 100 studies which were not RCTs, 118 that did not investigate hysteroscopy, 8 studies that were terminated or withdrawn, 2 that were retracted, 64 studies that were ongoing, 5 conference abstracts and 96 studies with an unknown outcome. We therefore assessed 170 published articles for trustworthiness. The most prolific countries were China (n = 26), Egypt (n = 24), Turkey (n = 14) and Iran (n = 13), which were responsible for 45 % of studies. The average trustworthiness score across all 170 papers was 1.9 out of 7 with a range of 0–5 (higher values indicating more concerns regarding trustworthiness). Areas with highest concern for trustworthiness were zero dropout (n = 90, 53 %) and having exactly the same number of participants in each group (n = 75, 44 %). Other significant areas of concern were studies having absent (n = 42, 25 %) or retrospective registration (n = 24, 14 %) and authors or institutions with retracted papers or large numbers of RCTs in a short period (n = 28, 16 %). There were 46 studies (27 %) with concerns regarding trustworthiness across three different domains, 12 studies (7 %) with concerns across four domains and 3 studies (1.7 %) with concerns across five domains. In research on hysteroscopy, many registered trials do not get published, in most cases for an unknown reason. A small number of countries are responsible for the majority of published hysteroscopy RCTs and registered trials with an unknown outcome. There is concern about the trustworthiness of RCTs published on hysteroscopy, with domains such as drop-out of participants, reporting participant characteristics and retrospective registration being areas for future methodological research. Purpose: Retraction is the removal of published material due to flaws in research that cannot be corrected. Our aim was to perform a systematic review of all retracted literature in Ear Nose and Throat to understand the characteristics of retraction and the citations of retracted literature. Methods: The Retraction Watch, EMBASE and MEDLINE databases were systematically searched to yield relevant retractions. Two independent authors performed abstract and full-text screening. Non-relevant texts, articles in non-English languages, and articles that were neither published (protocols) or retracted (expression of concern) were excluded. Results: We found 225 retractions in Ear Nose and Throat literature from 1992 to 2023. The number of retractions increased with time, and the average time-to-retraction was 1 year (range 0–29). Most articles were retracted due to misconduct (72%). In total, 191/225 of retractions were signposted with a retraction notice; 90.6% of notices were linked to the original manuscript; 96.9% specified the reason for retraction and 100% were freely accessible. Publications were cited more after retraction (median 2, range 0–215 vs median 0, range 0–78, Z –1.78, p = 0.075), however this was not significant, and appeared to improve with a shorter retraction time (RS 0.67, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Retractions, although rare, are increasing across all scientific disciplines. Our data suggests that retractions are both efficiently and transparently publicised in the Ear Nose and Throat Literature. Investigators should be veracious when conducting their own research and regularly appraise manuscripts to ensure that misinformation is not perpetuated, remaining aware that retracted articles continue to be cited. Retractions are becoming increasingly common but still account for a small minority of published papers. It would be useful to generate databases where the presence of retractions can be linked to impact metrics of each scientist. We have thus incorporated retraction data in an updated Scopus-based database of highly cited scientists (top 2% in each scientific subfield according to a composite citation indicator). Using data from the Retraction Watch database (RWDB), retraction records were linked to Scopus citation data. Of 55,237 items in RWDB as of August 15, 2024, we excluded non-retractions, retractions clearly not due to any author error, retractions where the paper had been republished, and items not linkable to Scopus records. Eventually, 39,468 eligible retractions were linked to Scopus. Among 217,097 top-cited scientists in career-long impact and 223,152 in single recent year (2023) impact, 7,083 (3.3%) and 8,747 (4.0%), respectively, had at least 1 retraction. Scientists with retracted publications had younger publication age, higher self-citation rates, and larger publication volume than those without any retracted publications. Retractions were more common in the life sciences and rare or nonexistent in several other disciplines. In several developing countries, very high proportions of top-cited scientists had retractions (highest in Senegal (66.7%), Ecuador (28.6%), and Pakistan (27.8%) in career-long citation impact lists). Variability in retraction rates across fields and countries suggests differences in research practices, scrutiny, and ease of retraction. Addition of retraction data enhances the granularity of top-cited scientists' profiles, aiding in responsible research evaluation. However, caution is needed when interpreting retractions, as they do not always signify misconduct; further analysis on a case-by-case basis is essential. The database should hopefully provide a resource for meta-research and deeper insights into scientific practices. An increasing number of retractions have been published in the recent past which may be conforming to the large number publications being added on a daily basis. Concerns have been flagged time and again regarding comprehensiveness and utility of retraction notices. Retraction notices published in PubMed in Jan 23 were analyzed for journal, publisher, article, country affiliation of authors, month of publication, who raised concern, main and additional reason for retraction, completeness of retraction notice, editors/authors requesting for retraction, agreement between authors and editors, and the number of citations received. A total of 295 retraction notices published in PubMed in Jan 2023 by 110 journals (which included 24 publishers and 9 standalone journals) were analyzed. Sixty-four percent of journals published single retraction notice. The highest number of retractions by a single journal was 70. Only 31% of retraction notices gave complete details. Editors requested for retraction in 88% cases. Eighty-four percent of the articles received at least one citation. In 71% of cases, it is not known who raised the concern. Reasons for retraction were compromised peer review (37%), plagiarism (20%), image manipulation (13%), data reliability (8%), authorship dispute (6%), methodology issues (4%), and so on. Twenty-seven percent of cases had more than one reason. Plagiarism of figures constituted 84% of total plagiarism cases. Fifty-eight of 59 plagiarism cases were described indirectly despite clear evidence. Authors and editors agreed for retraction in 25% of cases, and no information was available in 36% cases. MicroRNAs (miRs) have shown tremendous potential to act as therapeutic targets for cancer treatment. In this context, the present study was designed to investigate the potential of miR-143 in the treatment of breast cancer. Results showed that miR-143 to be significantly (P < 0.05) downregulated in breast cancer tissues and cell lines. The miR-143 has inhibitory effect on CAMA-1cell growth which was manifested as significant (P < 0.05) decline in loss of viability of cancer cells. The loss of cell viability was revealed to be due to the induction of apoptotic cell death as evident from acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) and 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining assays. The apoptotic cell percentage was found to be 35.7% in miR-143 mimics transfected in comparison to 6.4% in miR-NC transfected cells. The western blot analysis showed that miR-143 caused enhancement in Bax and suppression in Bcl-2 expression in CAMA-1 cells. The miR-143 also suppressed the bone metastasis of the CAMA-1 cells by suppressing the expression of Jag1 and deactivation of the Rho-signalling pathway. The transwell assays also showed considerable anti-metastatic effects of miR-143 on CAMA-1 cells. Taken together, miR-143 has growth inhibitory anti-metastatic effect on breast cancer and thus may prove beneficial in breast cancer treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Research Integrity is based on fundamental principles, including reliability, honesty, respect and accountability. Practices that threaten these standards are classified as research misconduct and fraud and the resulting publications must lead to retraction. Although research in medical education impacts university policies and influences professionals' behavior, publication retraction in this field has never been explicitly investigated. The main aim of this study is to examine the characteristics of retracted publications in medical education. Methodology: An eletronic search was performed during June 2023 in three databases: PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus, to identify all the retracted publications in medical education research. We extracted the characteristics of the authors, publication journals, citations and retraction notices. Results: A total of 12 publications were included in this systematic review. Fifty percent of the publications were published after 2020, being 42% of the studies from China. The average impact factor of the journals was 3.1. Among all the citations found, 54% happened after retraction date and none of them was used as an example of misconduct or to refer to the retraction process. The most common reasons for retraction were duplicate publication (25%) and systematic manipulation of the publication process (25%), followed by peer review concerns (17%). Conclusion: This study shows evidence that the number of retracted publications in medical education is increasing. Retraction notices tend to be ambiguous and unclear without enough information regarding the request or the reasons of retraction. All of these findings affect the truthfulness and transparency of medical education research. More efforts need to be done to standardize and improve the retraction notice availability, and researchers, journals, academic institutions and funders have to be more aware and publicise this growing problem, playing a key role to prevent the dissemination of misconduct and fraud in medical education research among the academic and scientific communities. The purpose of this research was to examine the viability of applying a flawless polyaniline coating on steel spearheads to preserve them and protect them from corrosion. The spearpoints, thought to be archaeologically significant, were acquired from the Military Museum in Al-Qala, Egypt. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were used to characterize the spearheads chemical composition and microstructure (EDX). The spearheads were determined to be constructed of steel and to have a coating of ferric oxide and other corrosion products on their exteriors. After that, a flawless polyaniline coating was electrochemically deposited onto the spearpoints in a way that was both quick and cheap. Many types of corrosion tests, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) readings, were used to determine the coating's effectiveness. The steel spearheads' findings revealed a significant improvement in their resistance to corrosion after being coated with flawless polyaniline. The coating served as a barrier, blocking out water and other corrosive substances and slowing the buildup of corrosion byproducts on the spearpoints. In conclusion, our research shows that a flawless polyaniline coating may be an effective anti-corrosion treatment for ancient steel artifacts. Background: China is one of the top countries with the most significant number or proportion of retracted publications, which has garnered significant attention. Methods: Using the Retraction Watch Database, we collected retracted articles written by Chinese authors from 31 provinces in mainland China, spanning the period between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2023. We used Geographical Information Science to analyze spatial distribution characteristics of retracted articles by Chinese authors and identify high-risk clusters of retracted areas. Results: A total of 14,445 retracted articles authored by researchers from 31 provinces in China between 2012 and 2023 were analyzed. The Spatial trend surface analysis and Gravity center movement indicated a gradual increase in the number of retracted articles from the west to the east. The spatial autocorrelation analysis showed that revealed significant spatial clustering in the distribution of retracted articles across the 31 provinces. The results of the spatial-temporal clustering analysis showed that the hotspots were primarily concentrated in Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Henan, and Anhui. Conclusion: There is a discernible spatial clustering among these retractions, with a gradual increase in the number of retracted articles from west to east.
