Prairie cropping systems face several challenges, including high input costs and climate change. Research to address these challenges has focused on above-ground agronomic parameters while completely ignoring the role roots play below ground. The objectives of this review study are to (i) synthesize past root studies carried out in the Canadian Prairies, (ii) provide a context for prairie root research, and (iii) identify gaps for future research. This review reports that root architectural traits of major crops have been assessed under field and greenhouse conditions in soil, artificial media, and a mixture of both soil and media, mostly under natural/well-watered and drought conditions. Several root traits have been compared for major crops grown with respect to moisture levels and nutrient uptake. A dearth of research exists on the complex relationship between root traits, soil microbiome, nutrient uptake, carbon sequestration, and photosynthetic efficiency. No studies were found relating root traits, fertilizer placement, and nitrogen and water use efficiencies, carbon sequestration, soil microbiome dynamics, and common root diseases. This review also reports that more research and funding are needed to exploit the benefits that root research will bring to further sustainability goals and ensure food security in the Canadian Prairies. The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is vulnerable to infections by various fungal pathogens. White root disease infection is one of the most prevalent diseases of rubber in Malaysia. This disease is caused by the fungus Rigidoporus microporus. Delayed management of this disease can cause considerable reduction in total tree stand and ultimately decreased land productivity. The utilisation of elicitor proteins to heighten host plant resistance represents a sustainable approach to disease control by reducing the use of chemical fungicides. The cerato-platanin protein family is the most widely reported class of elicitor proteins. This study isolated a member of the cerato-platanin family from R. microporus and evaluated its expression during H. brasiliensis infection. Total RNA was extracted from the mycelial sample of R. microporus followed by cDNA synthesis, isolation and cloning of the cerato-platanin transcript referred to as rmcp. In silico characterisation of the obtained sequence was then conducted and the relative expression of the gene was evaluated using RT-qPCR. A transcript of 438 bp encoding 145 amino acids protein, denoted as RmCP, was isolated and cloned. RmCP is composed of a cerato-platanin domain and a predicted N-terminal signal peptide. Phylogenetic analysis grouped RmCP into a cluster together with cerato-platanin proteins originating from basidiomycetes. The expression of rmcp gene was consistent throughout the study period and was not significantly different from axenic culture. Strawberry red core root rot disease affects the growth and yield of strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch), which leads to economic losses in China. The study employed a tissue separation method to isolate and identify the causal agent responsible for strawberry red core root rot. This was achieved by the observation of its morphological characteristics, sequencing analyses, and pathogenicity tests. The sensitivity of five chemical fungicides against the two species of Fusarium was determined using the mycelial growth rate method, and the biological characteristics of the two species were examined. The pathogens were identified as Fusarium solani and Fusarium oxysporum. The optimal conditions for the mycelial growth of F. solani and F. oxysporum were determined to be potato sucrose agar at 25 °C and pH 6, and potato dextrose agar at 30 °C and pH 8, respectively, with a 24:24 light cycle. The most suitable carbon and nitrogen sources for the mycelial growth of F. solani were sucrose and sodium nitrate (NaNO3), while for F. oxysporum, they were glucose and peptone. A fungicide sensitivity test indicated that Prochloraz had a good inhibitory effect on the growth of F. solani and F. oxysporum with EC50 values of 0.088 mg L−1 and 0.162 mg. The growth inhibition effect of Azoxystrobin to F. solani and Carbendazim to F. oxysporum was not obvious. The study investigated the effectiveness of seed dressing and foliar spray with indole acetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA) and Trichoderma harzianum, either alone or in combination, to manage root rot in green beans. The application of GA at concentrations of 40 ppm, 20 ppm, IAA at 20 ppm, 40 ppm and a combination of IAA at 40 ppm and GA at 40 ppm significantly reduced the incidence of pre-emergence root rot. Additionally, the use of IAA at concentrations of 10, 20 and 40 ppm completely suppressed post-emergence root rot in green beans. Furthermore, the application of tested growth regulators IAA and GA at different concentrations along with T. harzianum in combination induced higher chitinase polyphenol oxidase and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activities compared to control. Gene therapies are designed to address the root cause of disease. As scientific understanding of disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment improves in tandem with technological innovation, gene therapies have the potential to become safe and effective treatment options for a wide range of genetic and nongenetic diseases. However, as the medical scope of gene therapies expands, consideration must be given to those who will benefit and what proactive steps must be taken to widen development and access potential, particularly in regions carrying a high disease burden. Pink root disease (PRD) caused by Setophoma terrestris is a major disease in onion‐producing regions. The fungus primarily infects onion, but occasionally causes disease on other plant species such as cereals, corn, cucurbits, pepper, spinach, and soybean. In this study, we analysed the efficacy of three commercially available fungicides at low dose in two successive years (2020–2021) in the field. These included Priaxor Xemium Brand (fluxapyroxad + pyraclostrobin) at 1.0 or 1.5 L/ha, Lamardor 400 FS (propiconazole + tebuconazole) at 2.5 kg/ha, and Rovral TS (iprodione) at 5.0 kg/ha applied via soil surface irrigation, and also Priaxor as foliar application (1.0 L/ha) against PRD on three onion cultivars: white, red, and yellow. All fungicides were applied thrice within 3‐week intervals from the onset of PRD (mid‐February), and fungicidal efficacy was determined 2 weeks prior to harvest (mid‐May). The lowest PRD severity was recorded for Priaxor 1.5 L/ha at 9.5%, followed by Lamardo at 10.1%, and the remaining treatments compared with the untreated control at 47.7% severity. The highest production (per 100 bulbs) was recorded for Priaxor 1.5 L/ha with 7.36 kg, followed by Lamardo with 6.86 kg and the remaining treatments compared with untreated at 4.33 kg. When treatment effects on soil enzymes were examined prior to harvest, there was no substantial change in urease activity, whereas soil application of Priaxor increased alkaline phosphatase activity by 50% and decreased acidic phosphatase by 42% compared with the untreated control. Diabetes is a chronic disease and a major public health concern all over the world, even when made feasible to learn about the root cause of the disease by awareness along with the methods of prevention. This study introduces a mathematical deterministic model that describes the progression of type 2 diabetes, integrating a component of awareness and a saturation treatment function named Holling type II. The presented work investigates and numerically analyzes the impact of various treatment strategies, such as consistent physical activity, a healthy diet, access to medical services, and the efficacy of treatments. Objective / Background. Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is one of Mexico's main crops. In the years 2017 and 2018, symptoms of corky and pink roots were observed with an incidence of 10 to 20% in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. In the foliage, plants presented a generalized chlorosis, with stunted growth and senescence in the leaves. In the roots, brown and pink lesions were formed, as well as a corky texture. The objective of this study was to morphologically and molecularly characterize fungal isolates associated to corky and pink root in tomato orchards in Culiacan, Sinaloa, as well as to evaluate their pathogenicity. Materials and Methods: Monoconidial isolates were obtained and they were identified as Setophoma terrestris, based on their morphological characteristics. To confirm the identity, the area of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of the rDNA was amplified and sequenced, along with a fragment of the gene 28S of the rRNA (LSU). Results: Using the sequences obtained, a phylogenetic tree was created using the Bayesian Inference and it was found that the sequences were grouped with the ex-type sequences of Setophoma terrestris. The pathogenicity of the isolates was verified by inoculating mycelial discs into the root of 10 one-month-old tomato seedlings. The roots of the seedlings inoculated with PDA discs without mycelium served as a control. Thirty days after inoculation, corky and pink root symptoms appeared, whereas the roots of control plants remained healthy. Conclusion: According to the morphological characterization, the molecular identification and the pathogenicity tests, Setophoma terrestris was confirmed to be the causal agent of corky and pink root in agricultural tomato orchards in Culiacan, Sinaloa. The sweet potato is of great socioeconomic importance in Brazil and throughout the world. Among the fungal pathogens associated with root diseases of this crop, Fusarium is of particular importance due to the diversity of species, the pathogenic potential in their various hosts and their ability to survive inside plants as endophytes without apparently causing damage. The objective of this work was to identify fusarioid genera from stems and roots of symptomatic and asymptomatic plants. The identification of fungal species was based on multilocus phylogenetic analysis and morphology. A total of 51 isolates, distributed in the Fusarium incarnatum‐equiseti species complex (FIESC), Fusarium fujikuroi species complex (FFSC), Fusarium oxysporum species complex (FOSC)—with a taxonomic novelty—and Neocosmospora were identified. The pathogenicity test on roots showed that 13 of the 14 tested isolates obtained from symptomatic roots and stems and from asymptomatic stems were capable of reproducing the rot symptoms observed in the field. The confirmation of the pathogenicity of isolates from asymptomatic stems corroborates the hypothesis that these fungi can live endophytically in asymptomatic tissue and are capable of causing damage to their hosts in stress situations. This is the first report of Fusarium agrestense, Fusarium annulatum, Fusarium caatingaense, Fusarium elaeidis, Fusarium pernambucanum, Fusarium pseudocircinatum, Neocosmospora falciformis and Neocosmospora suttoniana associated with root and stem rot of sweet potato. Understanding the knowledge and behavior of nonindustrial private forest landowners towards Port-Orford cedar (POC) root disease (Phytophthora lateralis), sudden oak death (Phytophthora ramorum), and disease-resistant seedlings can help target effective education and outreach programs. We surveyed two counties in Southern Oregon to gain knowledge about these pathogens, disease-resistant seedlings, landowner behavior, and landowner preferences regarding planting disease-resistant seedlings. Amenity-based management objectives were more associated with planting disease-resistant POC. Respondents were more likely to plant disease-resistant conifers than hardwoods. Disease-resistant planting preferences were associated with years owned and acres of ownership. Designing targeted education and outreach programs will be necessary to achieve broad scale adoption of disease management and restoration practices. Study implications: We present results from a survey of nonindustrial private forest (NIPF) landowners in two counties in Southern Oregon to determine general landowner characteristics and knowledge of two nonnative diseases, Port-Orford cedar root disease, caused by Phytophthora lateralis , and sudden oak death, caused by Phytophthora ramorum. NIPF landowners play meaningful roles in invasive disease management: recognizing and reporting symptoms of nonnative plant diseases with the objective of early detection and control, implementing management actions to help mitigate disease spread, and planting disease-resistant seedlings during restoration efforts. A root disease in plantations of Pinus radiata and Pinus pinaster, where trees died in distinct patches, was present in the Western Cape province of South Africa during the 1970s and 1980s. Phytophthora cinnamomi was initially believed to be the cause, but the disease was later ascribed to the insect-associated fungus Leptographium serpens, a fungal species residing in the Ophiostomatales. Doubt regarding the cause of the disease was raised in a later study due to the fact that most Leptographium spp., particularly those that colonise ray parenchyma tissues, which is the case for L. serpens, are not typically primary disease agents. In this study, cultures of an unidentified sterile fungus collected from the dying trees were revived and identified using DNA sequencing methods, which were not available when the disease was first studied. These cultures were identified as the pyrophillic pathogen Rhizina undulata, well-known to cause patch death of conifers in South Africa and elsewhere in the world. While the patches of dying trees no longer exist and the disease cannot be newly studied, it is most likely that the tree death originally thought to be caused by L. serpens was due primarily to R. undulata. The study provides a vivid example of the value of preserving cultures of fungi for later study and the power of modern techniques to identify fungal pathogens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Microbial communities are not only an important indicator of soil status but also a determinant of plant nutrition and health levels. Loss of microbial community ecosystem control can directly lead to microbial disease occurrence. During the process of Yuanyang Nanqi wild imitation planting, root rot diseases frequently occur, seriously affecting their yield and quality. Via amplicon sequencing, this study mainly compared the microbial community composition between the rhizosphere soil and roots of healthy and diseased Yuanyang Nanqi with root rot. The α-diversity showed that the microbial community diversity and abundance in the roots of diseased Yuanyang Nanqi were much lower than those of those in healthy specimens, while no significant difference was found in the rhizosphere soil. The β-diversity showed that the bacterial community in the Gejiu region and the fungal community in the Honghe region were significantly different from those in other regions. The species relative abundance map showed that there was no obvious difference in microbial community composition between the rhizosphere soil and roots of healthy and diseased Nanqi, but in diseased specimens with root rot, the proportions of Pseudomonas and Fusarium increased. Based on a functional prediction analysis of FUNGuild, the results showed that the Nanqi roots were mainly pathological saprophytic type and that their rhizosphere soil was mainly saprophytic type. The microorganisms in the roots of Yuanyang Nanqi tubers with root rot were also isolated and identified through the use of the culture method. The possible pathogenic strains were tested via anti-inoculation, and Fusarium oxysporum was identified as one of the main pathogenic fungi of Nanqi root rot, which was consistent with the amplicon sequencing results. These results will help us understand the change trend of microbial communities in healthy and diseased plants and analyze the pathogens involved, the pathogenesis, and the beneficial microorganisms, which would provide a theoretical basis for effective biological control. Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) poses a substantial threat to food security. To address this challenge, we used PlantCV to extract CBSD root necrosis image traits from 320 clones, with an aim of identifying genomic regions through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and candidate genes. Results revealed strong correlations among certain root necrosis image traits, such as necrotic area fraction and necrotic width fraction, as well as between the convex hull area of root necrosis and the percentage of necrosis. Low correlations were observed between CBSD scores obtained from the 1-5 scoring method and all root necrosis traits. Broad-sense heritability estimates of root necrosis image traits ranged from low to moderate, with the highest estimate of 0.42 observed for the percentage of necrosis, while narrow-sense heritability consistently remained low, ranging from 0.03 to 0.22. Leveraging data from 30,750 SNPs obtained through DArT genotyping, eight SNPs on chromosomes 1, 7, and 11 were identified and associated with both the ellipse eccentricity of root necrosis and the percentage of necrosis through GWAS. Candidate gene analysis in the 172.2kb region on the chromosome 1 revealed 24 potential genes with diverse functions, including ubiquitin-protein ligase, DNA-binding transcription factors, and RNA metabolism protein, among others. Despite our initial expectation that image analysis objectivity would yield better heritability estimates and stronger genomic associations than the 1-5 scoring method, the results were unexpectedly lower. Vitiligo is a chronic skin disorder characterized by the loss of pigmentation, resulting in white patches on the skin. The condition arises from the destruction of melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, the pigment that gives colour to the skin, hair, and eyes. Although the exact etiology of vitiligo remains elusive, it is believed to involve a complex interplay of genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors. This overview provides the key aspects of vitiligo, including its epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and current treatment approaches. The prevalence of vitiligo varies globally, affecting individuals of all ethnic backgrounds and age groups. The autoimmune hypothesis proposes that the immune system mistakenly targets and attacks melanocytes, leading to their destruction. Triggering factors, such as oxidative stress, viral infections, and neural factors, may contribute to the initiation and progression of vitiligo. Clinically, vitiligo can significantly impact the quality of life for affected individuals, both psychologically and socially. The distribution and extent of involvement vary, and the condition can affect any part of the body. Various treatment modalities are available for vitiligo, ranging from topical corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors to phototherapy and surgical interventions. While these approaches may help to re-pigment the skin to some extent, there is no definitive cure, and the outcomes can be unpredictable. Summary: Identification of crop plant disease in the early phase is one of the most vital tasks in agriculture. The infection by disease resulted in huge loss to economy. Thus, quick and precise treatment of disease prevented the product loss and enhances the product quality. In this work, a method for categorizing the root disease is developed. The goal is to create a model utilizing a collection of photos of roots to categorize root sickness. Initially, noise is removed during the pre‐processing using a Gaussian filter. The segments are generated using the Pyramid Scene Parsing Network (PSPNet). Here, PSPNet training is carried out using the improved invasive feedback artificial tree method (IFATA), which is developed by combining the improved invasive weed optimization (IIWO) and Feedback Artificial Tree (FAT). Data augmentation is done to make an image suitable for further processing. Root disease is categorized using a deep quantum neural network. With the suggested IFATA, Deep Quantum Neural Network (DQNN) is trained. The analysis of technique is performed with two databases, namely Rice root Gellan dataset and Alfalfa root crowns. The proposed IFATA‐based DQNN outperformed with higher accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity scores of 93.5%, 94.5%, and 90.5%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heterobasidion root disease (HRD), a destructive disease of conifers, is a growing management concern. Infection by HRD fungus (Heterobasidion irregulare) most often occurs when spores, usually produced when temperature is between 5 and 32 °C, land and germinate on freshly cut surfaces. Older stump surfaces are generally unsuitable for colonization, likely due to changes in chemical and physical properties of wood and competitor fungi that limit HRD infection. Stump protectants are effective but not used or recommended in subfreezing temperatures during winter when spores are less common. This study evaluated the potential for older cut stump infection following snowmelt in spring via inoculation of disks collected 7 weeks following initial thinning and exposed to extensive subfreezing temperatures. We found that a surprising number of disks (40%) were successfully colonized with H. irregulare. More research on potential for winter cut conifer HRD infection is warranted as are steps to limit this potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In a monocropping pattern for the crop domestication process, the interspecific and intraspecific interaction modes can be changed. In domesticated crops, the intraspecific interactions may have detrimental effects. Moreover, soil‐borne diseases in consecutive monocropped medicinal crops can be a critical challenge that has been difficult to solve. This study has been conducted to evaluate the effect of monoculture and intercropped cultivation on soil‐borne diseases caused by root secretions in American ginseng. The results of the correlation analysis showed that the polyethylenes in the roots had a more negative correlation with the occurrence of soil‐borne diseases than ginsenosides. Therefore, polyethylenes can be considered as an important factor in replanting failure of American ginseng. Furthermore, polyethylenes were able to remain in the soil and have a greater impact on the incidence of soil‐borne diseases than ginsenosides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although the Internet of Things (IoT) has been considered one of the most promising technologies to automate various daily life activities, that is, monitoring and prediction, it has become extremely useful for problem solving with the introduction and integration of artificial intelligence (AI)‐enabled smart learning methodologies. Therefore, due to their overwhelming characteristics, AI‐enabled IoTs have been used in different application environments, such as agriculture, where detection, prevention (if possible), and prediction of crop diseases, especially at the earliest possible stage, are desperately required. Bacterial stalk root is a common disease of tomatoes that severely affects its production and yield if necessary measures are not taken. In this article, AI and an IoT‐enabled decision support system (DSS) have been developed to predict the possible occurrence of bacterial stalk root diseases through a sophisticated technological infrastructure. For this purpose, Arduino agricultural boards, preferably with necessary embedded sensors, are deployed in the agricultural field of maize crops to capture valuable data at a certain time interval and send it to a centralized module where AI‐based DSS, which is trained on an equally similar data set, is implemented to thoroughly examine captured data values for the possible occurrence of the disease. Additionally, the proposed AI‐ and IoT‐enabled DSS has been tested on benchmark data sets, that is, freely available online, along with real‐time captured data sets. Both experimental and simulation results show that the proposed scheme has achieved the highest accuracy level in timely prediction of the underlined disease. Crown gall disease (Agrobacterium tumefaciens), crown/root rot disease (Phytophthora spp.), root lesion disease (Pratylenchus vulnus) and tree vigor are key traits affecting the productivity and quality of walnuts in California. Unchallenged hybrid rootstocks were analyzed by RNA-seq to examine pre-formed factors affecting these traits. Enrichment analysis of the differentially expressed genes revealed that the increased expression of cell wall biogenesis-related genes plays a key role in susceptibility to A. tumefaciens, susceptibility to Phytophthora spp. and increased vigor. Analysis of the predicted subcellular loci of the encoded proteins revealed that many gene products associated with vigor and susceptibility were targeted to the plasma membrane and extracellular space, connecting these traits to sustaining barrier function. We observed that RNA processing and splicing, along with predicted nuclear targeting, were associated with resistance to A. tumefaciens, resistance to Phytophthora spp. and low vigor. Four genes within the J. microcarpa QTL region for resistance to A. tumefaciens and Phytophthora spp. were represented among our transcripts, with two of the genes being differentially expressed in association with resistance to A. tumefaciens and decreased vigor. No differential expression related to Phytophthora spp. or P. vulnus resistance was observed in this region. Additionally, the J. microcarpa haplotype expressed more transcripts associated with resistance to A. tumefaciens, Phytophthora spp. and low vigor, but not P. vulnus, than the J. regia haplotype. We also report unique and shared hormone and defense responses associated with each trait. This research suggests a link between cell wall biogenesis, vigor and critical root diseases of walnut. Phellinus noxius is a highly destructive fungus that causes brown root disease in trees, leading to decay and death. In Taiwan, five prized woods—Taiwania cryptomerioides, Calocedrus macrolepis var. formosana, Cunninghamia lanceolata var. konishii, Chamaecyparis formosensis, and Chamaecyparis obtusa var. formosana—are known for their fragrance and durability. This study aims to explore the anti-brown-root-rot-fungus activity of Cunninghamia lanceolata var. konishii (CL) essential oil (CLOL) and its primary components, while also delving into their mechanisms of action and inhibition pathways. The essential oil (CLOL) from CL wood demonstrated significant efficacy against P. noxius, with an inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 37.5 µg/mL. Cedrol, the major component (78.48%) in CLOL, emerged as a potent antifungal agent, surpassing the reference drug triflumizole. Further assays with cedrol revealed a stronger anti-brown-root-disease activity (IC50 = 15.7 µg/mL) than triflumizole (IC50 = 32.1 µg/mL). Scanning electron microscopy showed deformation and rupture of fungal hyphae treated with CLOL and cedrol, indicating damage to the fungal cell membrane. Cedrol-induced oxidative stress in P. noxius was evidenced by increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, leading to DNA fragmentation, mitochondrial membrane potential reduction, and fungal apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway. Gel electrophoresis confirmed cedrol-induced DNA fragmentation, whereas TUNEL staining demonstrated increased apoptosis with rising cedrol concentrations. Moreover, protein expression analysis revealed cedrol-triggered release of cytochrome c, activation of caspase-9, and subsequent caspase-3 activation, initiating a caspase cascade reaction. This groundbreaking study establishes cedrol as the first compound to induce apoptosis in P. noxius while inhibiting its growth through oxidative stress, an increase in mitochondrial membrane permeability, and activation of the mitochondrial pathway. Recent accounting for disease in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War has been contained within study of hunger in the early 1940s. Historians have cited the typhus epidemic which hit Spain between 1939 and 1945 as demonstrating a causal link between widespread semi-starvation and disease. Though important, the focus on hunger risks losing sight of other vital elements in the onset and transmission of typhus, however, as well as the way the epidemic's progress sheds light on population movement as central to the broader social history of the war and its aftermath. By paying close attention to epidemiological records, this article argues that the direct causes of typhus and its vertiginous spread were primarily ideological and spatial. It shows first how the war's victors used the language of political and bacterial contagion to claim spuriously that the wartime Republic was responsible for the epidemic. It then demonstrates how the intense confinement on a huge scale of those linked to the Republic was at the root of the disease. Transmission depended on this mass imprisonment and on the increased circulation of families to support those in captivity. Erythemato-squamous diseases (ESD) diagnosis is a significant challenge in dermatology. It is divided into six categories. Artificial intelligence models have been applied to categorize these categories. Artificial intelligent models are black boxes in nature. The objective of this study is to unbox the black-box behavior and interpret the decision-making. Random Forest and XGBoost models are applied on a standard dataset with SHAP value to get interpretability and causability of decision. The Random Forest model had a classification accuracy of 98.21%. Integration of explainability increase the transparency of result and identify the root cause of the disease in the subject. A comprehensive quantitative study will help to adopt artificial intelligence in healthcare with ethical issues like transparency, causability, and interpretability of diagnosis. Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an unpredictable and potentially fatal disorder. A derailed or unbalanced immune response may be the root of the disease's severe course. Disorders of lipid metabolism are highly correlated with the occurrence and severity of AP. We aimed to characterize the contribution and immunological characteristics of lipid metabolism-related genes (LMRGs) in non-mild acute pancreatitis (NMAP) and identify a robust subtype and biomarker for NMAP. Methods: The expression mode of LMRGs and immune characteristics in NMAP were examined. Then LMRG-derived subtypes were identified using consensus clustering. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was utilized to determine hub genes and perform functional enrichment analyses. Multiple machine learning methods were used to build the diagnostic model for NMAP patients. To validate the predictive effectiveness, nomograms, receiver operating characteristic (ROC), calibration, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used. Using gene set variation analysis (GSVA) and single-cell analysis to study the biological roles of model genes. Results: Dysregulated LMRGs and immunological responses were identified between NMAP and normal individuals. NMAP individuals were divided into two LMRG-related subtypes with significant differences in biological function. The cluster-specific genes are primarily engaged in the regulation of defense response, T cell activation, and positive regulation of cytokine production. Moreover, we constructed a two-gene prediction model with good performance. The expression of CARD16 and MSGT1 was significantly increased in NMAP samples and positively correlated with neutrophil and mast cell infiltration. GSVA results showed that they are mainly upregulated in the T cell receptor complex, immunoglobulin complex circulating, and some immune-related routes. Single-cell analysis indicated that CARD16 was mainly distributed in mixed immune cells and macrophages, and MGST1 was mainly distributed in exocrine glandular cells. Conclusions: This study presents a novel approach to categorizing NMAP into different clusters based on LMRGs and developing a reliable two-gene biomarker for NMAP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Legume root diseases are a significant challenge for sustainable agriculture and food security worldwide. These diseases, such as root rots and wilts, affect cultivated legumes like pea, chickpea, lentil, soybean, and alfalfa. Various control strategies have been developed, including resistance breeding, cultural practices, and chemical control, but managing these diseases remains difficult. Collaborative and multidisciplinary research is needed to develop effective integrated control strategies. This article summarizes recent research on legume root diseases, including disease survey, pathogen identification, disease resistance and breeding, plant-pathogen-microbe interactions, and integrated disease management. Aim: We retrospectively analyse and review the results of microvascular decompression performed for trigeminal neuralgia. We also discuss the surgical nuances, complication avoidance and compare our results with other reported studies. Materials and methods: This is a retrospective study in which the data of eighty-four patients who underwent microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia in the last ten years from 2013 till May 2023 at our institute (Neuron hospital and SSG Hospital, Vadodara, India) was reviewed. The preoperative pain characteristics, radiology reports and the degree and duration of post-operative pain relief and neurologic outcome was assessed. MRI was done preoperatively in all the cases to rule out a secondary cause for trigeminal neuralgia. All the cases of secondary trigeminal neuralgia were excluded from the study. A favourable outcome was defined as a post-operative Barrow Neurological Institute pain intensity score of 1. Results: Eighty patients had excellent immediate postoperative pain relief without any need for medications. None of these patients have developed any recurrence of pain till date. Four operated patients did not experience any pain relief after surgery. Conclusion: Microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia is a safe and effective procedure which treats the root cause of the disease and hence provides good long term pain relief. Some periodontal diseases can be associated with cariogenic bacterial growth due to various oral health imbalances. This fact may be linked to a greater development of root caries. Thus, this systematic review analyzed the evidence on the association between periodontal disease and root caries. An electronic search was performed in five databases (Cochrane Library, LILACS, MedLine via PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) and two additional sources (Google Scholar and Open Grey) to partially capture the grey literature. The PECO strategy was used to identify prospective or retrospective observational studies assessing root caries in patients with periodontal disease without language or year publication restrictions. Two reviewers extracted data and evaluated the individual risk of bias in the eligible studies. Random effects meta-analyses were performed to calculate the Odds Ratio (OR). The risk of bias was assessed by the NIH tool, and the certainty of evidence was classified according to the GRADE tool. There were 1,725 studies retrieved, of which four met the eligibility criteria. All of them were evaluated for the control statements for possible confounders, bias consideration, and confounding factors because they had multivariate analysis. Adults with periodontal disease had a greater chance of presenting root caries than adults without, with OR 1.38 [CI 1.25, 1.53]. The certainty of evidence was classified as very low. Within the limits presented in this review, there was an association between periodontal disease and root caries, highlighted in the qualitative synthesis and the meta-analysis results. For decades, Agrobacterium rhizogenes (now Rhizobium rhizogenes), the causative agent of hairy root disease, has been harnessed as an interkingdom DNA delivery tool for generating transgenic hairy roots on a wide variety of plants. One of the strategies involves the construction of transconjugant R. rhizogenes by transferring gene(s) of interest into previously constructed R. rhizogenes pBR322 acceptor strains; little has been done, however, to improve upon this system since its implementation. We developed a simplified method utilising bi-parental mating in conjunction with effective counterselection for generating R. rhizogenes transconjugants. Central to this was the construction of a new Modular Cloning (MoClo) compatible pBR322-derived integration vector (pIV101). Although this protocol remains limited to pBR322 acceptor strains, pIV101 facilitated an efficient construction of recombinant vectors, effective screening of transconjugants, and RP4-based mobilisation compatibility that enabled simplified conjugal transfer. Transconjugants from this system were tested on Lotus japonicus and found to be efficient for the transformation of transgenic hairy roots and supported infection of nodules by a rhizobia symbiont. The expedited protocol detailed herein substantially decreased both the time and labour for creating transconjugant R. rhizogenes for the subsequent transgenic hairy root transformation of Lotus, and it could readily be applied for the transformation of other plants. Dental caries on the crown's surface is caused by the interaction of bacteria and carbohydrates, which then gradually alter the tooth's structure. In addition, calculus is the root of periodontal disease. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been considered to be a promising tool for identifying dental caries; however, diagnosing dental caries in the early stage still remains challenging. In this study, we proposed an ultrahigh-resolution OCT (UHR-OCT) system with axial and transverse resolutions of 2.6 and 1.8 μm for differentiating the early-stage dental caries and calculus. The same teeth were also scanned by a conventional spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT) system with an axial resolution of 7 μm. The results indicated that early-stage carious structures such as small cavities can be observed using UHR-OCT; however, the SD-OCT system with a lower resolution had difficulty identifying it. Moreover, the estimated surface roughness and the scattering coefficient of enamel were proposed for quantitatively differentiating the different stages of caries. Furthermore, the thickness of the calculus can be estimated from the UHR-OCT results. The results have demonstrated that UHR-OCT can detect caries and calculus in their early stages, showing that the proposed method for the quantitative evaluation of caries and calculus is potentially promising. In 2019, brown root rot symptoms were observed in pea sprouts (Pisum sativum L.) grown in a plant factory in Japan. Bacteria were isolated from symptomatic plants and confirmed to cause the same symptoms in inoculation to pea seedlings. Based on multilocus sequence analysis and the bacteriological characteristics, the isolates were identified as a Pseudomonas species belonging to the Pseudomonas asplenii subgroup, which is most closely related to Pseudomonas vanderleydeniana. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a bacterial root disease in pea plants and of a P. asplenii subgroup member that is pathogenic to legumes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) is a natural product with high volatility that is used as a biofumigant to alleviate soil-borne plant diseases, and problems such as root knot nematodes (RKNs) that necessitate continuous cropping. However, little research has assessed the effects of AITC fumigation on medicinal plants. Results: AITC significantly reduced the population of RKNs in soil (p < 0.0001) and showed an excellent RKN disease control effect within 6 months after sowing Panax notoginseng (p < 0.0001). The seedling survival rate of 2-year-old P. notoginseng was approximately 1.7-fold higher after soil treatment with AITC (p = 0.1008). 16S rRNA sequencing indicated that the AITC treatment affected bacterial richness rather than diversity in consecutively cultivated (CC) soil. Furthermore, biomarkers with statistical differences between AITC-treated and untreated CC soil showed that Pirellulales (order), Pirellulaceae (family), Pseudomonadaceae (family), and Pseudomonas (genus) played important roles in the AITC-treated group. In addition, the microbiome functional phenotypes predicted using the BugBase tool suggested that AITC treatment is more conducive to improving CC soil through changes in the bacterial community structure. Crucially, our research also suggested that AITC soil treatment significantly increases soil organic matter (p = 0.0055), total nitrogen (p = 0.0054), and available potassium (p = 0.0373), which promotes the survival of a succeeding medicinal plant (Polygonatum kingianum). Conclusion: AITC is an ecologically friendly soil treatment that affects the top 10 bacterial richness but not diversity. Wilted hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) plants were observed in August 2019 in commercial fields around Osijek, Croatia. Plants and roots with disease symptoms were collected. The single-spored isolates produced septate cottony white to light pink aerial mycelium and purple undersurface on potato dextrose agar (PDA). Smooth and hyaline hyphae were branched and septate. Macroconidia were fusiform to sickle-shaped with foot-shaped basal cells, elongated apical cells and three to five septa. Sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer and the partial elongation factor 1-α gene identified the species as Fusarium oxysporum. Artificial infection fulfills Koch's postulates, producing plants which show stunted growth and wilt symptoms similar to those observed in the commercial fields. Control seedlings remained symptomless and healthy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of hemp Fusarium wilt causing F. oxysporum in Croatia. Considering that F. oxysporum has been reported in main field crops in Croatia, the presence of this pathogen could cause economically significant hemp production decreases, especially in humid and cold springs and susceptible varieties. Rubber tree is economically important rubber producing plant of Thailand. At present, a rubber tree plantation is susceptible to white root disease. Therefore, the use of rootstock from early introduce clone that proved to be resistant to white root disease could help sustain growing of rubber tree. Thus, the objectives of this research were to study the effects of plant growth regulators and different explants on somatic embryo (SE) induction of this rubber clone and assessment genetic stability. The results revealed that mix flower explant cultured on MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/L 6-benzyladenine (BA) and 1.5 mg/L 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) provided callus subsequent somatic embryo (SE) formation at the highest frequency of 39.84 % and number of cotyledonary embryos (CEs) at 3.25 embryos/callus after 3 passages of subculture in the same culture medium (4 weeks/passage). SEs germinated into embryonic axis at 50 % and further development into shoot at 25 % after transfer to 0.25 mg/L GA3 containing MS medium with the best concentrations of BA and 2,4-D for 4 weeks. The assessment gene stability by RAPD and SSR markers showed no variation between mother plant and in vitro plantlets. In this work, a novel explant source - the floral section of the rubber tree - was used for the first time in order to design an effective technique for in vitro somatic embryogenesis. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the perimenopausal period is closely related to the rise and fall of Tiangui, while psycho-cardiological disease is related to the brain, heart, and kidney. In terms of material homology, structural relationships, and physiological functioning, Tiangui is closely related to the “kidney-heart-brain” axis, which together ensure the normal life activities of the human body, forming the theory of “ Tiangui and the ‘ kidney-heart-brain’ axis”. According to the theory of Tiangui and the “kidney-heart-brain” axis, the pathogenesis of perimenopausal psycho-cardiological disease is explained, and it is believed that the root cause of the disease is the deficiency of Tiangui due to the declining function of the kidney, heart, and brain. Objective of this review is to provide a brief overview of the disease's biology, preventative strategies, risk factors, degree of reinfection, and epidemiological profile. In terms of management, there is ongoing debate about the most effective strategies to mitigate the spread of the virus. While public health measures such as social distancing and mask-wearing have been widely implemented, there are differing opinions on the effectiveness of lockdowns and restrictions on public movement. The risks posed by COVID-19 are also a topic of debate, with some arguing that the virus is relatively low-risk for the majority of the population while others highlight the potential for severe illness, particularly among vulnerable populations such as the elderly or those with underlying health conditions. Finally, the possibility of reinfection has raised concerns about the longevity of immunity following infection or vaccination. While some studies have suggested that reinfection may be possible and potentially more severe, the overall risk remains uncertain and further research is needed to fully understand the implications of reinfection. Agrobacteria are important plant pathogens responsible for crown/cane gall and hairy root diseases. Crown/cane gall disease is associated with strains carrying tumor-inducing (Ti) plasmids, while hairy root disease is caused by strains harboring root-inducing (Ri) plasmids. In this study, we analyzed the sequences of Ti plasmids of the novel "tumorigenes" clade of the family Rhizobiaceae ("tumorigenes" Ti plasmids), which includes two species, Rhizobium tumorigenes and Rhizobium rhododendri. The sequences of reference Ti/Ri plasmids were also included, which was followed by a comparative analysis of their backbone and accessory regions. The "tumorigenes" Ti plasmids have novel opine signatures compared with other Ti/Ri plasmids characterized so far. The first group exemplified by pTi1078 is associated with production of agrocinopine, nopaline, and ridéopine in plant tumors, while the second group comprising pTi6.2 is responsible for synthesis of leucinopine. Bioinformatic and chemical analyses, including opine utilization assays, indicated that leucinopine associated with pTi6.2 most likely has D,L stereochemistry, unlike the L,L-leucinopine produced in tumors induced by reference strains Chry5 and Bo542. Most of the "tumorigenes" Ti plasmids have conjugative transfer system genes that are unusual for Ti plasmids, composed of avhD4 / avhB and traA / mobC / parA regions. Next, our results suggested that "tumorigenes" Ti plasmids have a common origin, but they diverged through large-scale recombination events, through recombination with single or multiple distinct Ti/Ri plasmids. Lastly, we showed that Ti/Ri plasmids could be differentiated based on pairwise Mash or average amino-acid identity distance clustering, and we supply a script to facilitate application of the former approach by other researchers. The ability of plants to release chemicals that affect the growth of other plants offers potential benefits for weed management and sustainable agriculture. This review explores the use of Camelina sativa as a promising cover crop with weed control potential. Camelina sativa, known for its high oil content and adaptability to diverse climatic conditions, exhibits allelopathic potential by releasing chemical compounds that inhibit weed growth. The crop's vigorous growth and canopy architecture contribute to effective weed suppression, reducing the prevalence and spread of associated pathogens. Furthermore, the chemical compounds released by camelina through the solubilization of compounds from leaves by rain, root exudation, or deriving from microbial-mediated decay of camelina's tissues interfere with the growth of neighbouring plants, indicating allelopathic interactions. The isolation and identification of benzylamine and glucosinolates as allelochemicals in camelina highlight their role in plant–plant interactions. However, the studies carried out on this species are outdated, and it cannot be excluded that other chemicals deriving from the breakdown of the glucosinolates or belonging to other classes of specialized metabolites can be involved in its allelopathic potential. Camelina sativa also demonstrates disease suppression capabilities, with glucosinolates exhibiting fungicidal, nematocidal, and bactericidal activities. Additionally, camelina cover crops have been found to reduce root diseases and enhance growth and yields in corn and soybeans. This review sheds light on the allelopathic and agronomic benefits of Camelina sativa, emphasizing its potential as a sustainable and integrated pest management strategy in agriculture. Melon is one of the most appreciated and consumed vegetables in the world. However, root diseases result in limited crop production, making it necessary to search for solutions. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of biotic and abiotic elicitors controlling root rot and vine decline in melon using two experiments. First, plant beds were set at the Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Árido, to select the treatments that induced the lowest disease severity. Another experiment was carried out under field conditions on a melon-producing farm. The plant bed experiment consisted of randomized blocks of eight treatments (i.e., salicylic acid, salicylic acid + Compost Aid®, Bion®, Bion® + Compost Aid®, Agro Mos®, Agro Mos® + Compost Aid®, Compost Aid®, and absolute control) with four replicates. The variables analyzed were disease incidence and severity. The same experimental design was used in the field, with five treatments (i.e., standard (management adopted at the farm), Bion®, Compost Aid®, Bion® + Compost Aid®, and absolute control) with four replicates. Epidemiological, biochemical, yield, and post-harvest variables were analyzed. Bion® + Compost Aid® reduced the incidence and severity of melon root rot by 30.4% and 44.1% under plant bed conditions and 23.1% and 37.6% under field conditions, respectively. The combined Bion® + Compost Aid® elicitors induced melon defenses through the activation of β-1,3-glucanase, chitinase, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase enzymes and positively influenced productivity and soluble solids. Root rot caused by Fusarium oxysporum is a serious root disease that affects the growth and yield of peanut crops worldwide. Identifying resistance genes is of great significance for both conventional and molecular breeding. At present, there are a few identified disease resistance genes, and the defense response mechanism against this pathogen remains unclear. Using transcriptome analysis techniques, 21 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in plants treated with Bacillus thuringiensis TG5 and carbendazim. Among these DEGs, the TIFY10A protein gene, pyruvate decarboxylase, and UDP glycosyltransferase 74B1 genes play an important role in early resistance to root rot in peanut plants, leading to regulatory factors that trigger immunity. Our study provides important information on the response mechanism of peanut plants to F. oxysporum-induced root rot and the protective benefits of colonization by the microbial pesticide, B. thuringiensis. Members of Didymellaceae have a wide geographical distribution throughout different ecosystems, and most species are associated with fruit, leaf, stem and root diseases of land plants. However, species that occur in aquatic plants are not clearly known. During a survey of the diversity of endophytes in aquatic plants in Yunnan, Sichuan, and Guizhou provinces, we obtained 51 isolates belonging to Didymellaceae based on internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) sequences. Further, the phylogenetic positions of these isolates were determined by combined sequences composed of ITS, partial large subunit nrRNA gene (28S nrDNA; LSU), RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2) and partial beta-tubulin gene (tub2). Combining morphological characteristics and multi-locus phylogenetic analyses, two new varieties belong to Boeremia and 12 new species distributed into seven genera were recognized from 51 isolates, i.e., Cumuliphoma, Didymella, Dimorphoma, Ectophoma, Leptosphaerulina, Remotididymella, and Stagonosporopsis. Among these species, only one species of Stagonosporopsis and two species of Leptosphaerulina show teleomorphic stages on OA, but have no anamorphic state. Each new species is described in detail, and the differences between new species and their phylogenetically related species are discussed here. The high frequency of new species indicates that aquatic plants may be a special ecological niche which highly promotes species differentiation. At the same time, the frequent occurrence of new species may indicate the need for extensive investigation of fungal resources in those aquatic environments where fungal diversity may be underestimated. Several phytopathogens attack eggplant, causing crop damage. One of the most destructive plant diseases, Root-Knot Nematode (RKN), causes significant damage to eggplant seedlings. Finding safe and effective biological alternatives to prevent eggplant root nematode disease, which significantly limits plant productivity, is the innovative aspect of this study. Six isolates of plant growth-promoting fungus (PGPF) were tested in the current work for improving biochemical defense and physio-biochemical performance in eggplant seedlings under the Meloidogyne incognita challenge. PGPF isolates were tested in vitro for some biochemical traits such as Siderophores and HCN production. Besides, the antagonistic efficacy of PGPF filtrates against M. incognita was tested in vitro. The best isolates capable of producing HCN were F5 and F3 respectively. Also, F5 followed by F3 exhibited the maximum mortality proportions of 74.20% and 60.35% mortality in nematode juveniles after 96 hours respectively. Moreover, F5 has the highest level of antioxidant activity, with IC50 145 µg/mL followed by F3 with IC50 350 µg/mL. thus, we identified F5 and F3 completely as Rhizopus microsporus (OQ291571.1 and Aspergillus oryzae OQ291572.1. Implementing R. microsporus and A. oryzae collectively in vivo study was the most successful therapy, limiting nematode recordings as 95.23%, 86.98%, 80.35%, 80%, and 68.78% reduction in females, galls, developmental stage, egg masses, second juveniles, respectively, in diseased seedlings. Diseases induced by Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici (G. g. tritici) are the most important wheat root diseases in all cropping areas around the world and significantly reduces yield and quality of wheat grain. A multi-year field experiment was used to evaluate infestation of winter wheat roots by G. g. tritici. The experimental factors included: I. cropping system (CS): 1) crop rotation (CR): pea -- winter wheat -- spring barley; 2) monoculture of winter wheat (MON); and II. tillage system (TS): 1) CT -- conventional tillage, 2) RT -- reduced tillage, and 3) NT -- no-tillage. The following cultivation treatment were applied: a shallow ploughing after previous harvest and pre-sowing ploughing in the CT system; double cultivation instead of both aforementioned ploughing treatments in the RT system; and glyphosate in NT system. A cultivation set, consisting of a cultivator, a string roller, and a harrow, was used before wheat sowing. The value of the index of winter wheat roots infestation by G. g. tritici was significantly higher in the monoculture than in crop rotation. The value was also higher in NT than in CT system. Ambarella (Spondias dulcis) tropical fruit showing typical galling symptoms caused by root-knot nematode was discovered in the orchard located in Phaya Yen, Pak Chong district Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand. The nematode was identified based on morphological and molecular information and its pathogenicity was confirmed through inoculation of second-stage juveniles into ambarella seedlings under greenhouse conditions. Objective: To characterize the agronomic and phytosanitary aspects of the tomato production units of the Comiteca-Tojolabal Plateau, Chiapas, Mexico. Design/Methodology/Approach: A random sampling of n-76 tomato fields was performed; agronomic practice surveys were applied to their respective farmers, and the phytosanitary status of each site was evaluated. Results: Tomatoes are grown in shade houses, in plots that mostly do not exceed 0.5 ha. The most common practices are crop rotation, one tomato cycle per year, incorporation of previous crop residues, and fertilization every 5-8 days. For phytosanitary management, foliar sprays are usually performed every 5-8 days. In order to prevent diseases and pests, 67% of producers pre-treat seedlings and 95% apply bactericides and fungicides to the roots during the first 45 days of the crop. The most important pests and diseases are whitefly, thrips, Bactericera sp., late blight, virosis, and wilt. The percentage of plants that suffer from root and vascular diseases ranges from 0-38%. However, low values were more frequent. The regional severity of wilting is low, since 90% of the plants evaluated did not present symptoms. Study Limitations/Implications: This is the first work to describe the agronomic and phytosanitary aspects of tomato cultivation in this region. Additional research with this approach is required and this work will be the basis for further studies. Findings/Conclusions: Most of the tomato farms have less than 0.5 ha and their farmers carry out intensive phytosanitary management with pesticides. In addition to chemical control, the cultural practices used may contribute to a low incidence and severity of soil-borne diseases. The most important crop diseases are late blight and virosis. Environmental changes are occurring on a global scale, but their effects are most pronounced in climate change hotspot zones, such as the Mediterranean basin. Within this area Italy, extending from its southern coasts in the core of the Mediterranean Sea to its northernmost pre-Alpine and Alpine regions, is characterized by a variety of climatic conditions and vegetation types. Surveys conducted in 2018–2022 in forest formations of Central-Northern Italy revealed that the enhanced warming trend and irregular distribution of precipitations are strongly impacting the health of Fraxinus species, with some pathogenic fungi and oomycetes being important contributing factors to the decline of the three main ash species growing there: common ash (Fraxinus excelsior), flowering ash (Fraxinus ornus), and narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia). Isolation from symptomatic plant material collected countrywide under different site conditions and pathogenicity tests revealed a complex phytopathological framework, with several pathogenic species in addition to Hymenoscyphus fraxineus involved with a prominent role in the ash dieback etiology. Key microbial taxa included the fungal and oomycete pathogens Botryosphaeria dothidea, Diplodia fraxini, Diplodia subglobosa, Phytophthora acerina, and Phytophthora plurivora. The disease impact was higher on sites where ash trees grew under environmental stress (i.e., areas characterized by mild dry winters, hot summers with intense and prolonged drought) and exhibited reduced vigor, also as a consequence of anthropogenic interference (i.e., silvicultural management and fires). The identified causative agents are emerging pathogens that thrive under warmer conditions, their impact in the investigated areas being prevalent compared to H. fraxineus, which appears to be restricted on the Italian peninsula to the cooler and wetter valleys of the Alps and Central-Northern Apennines.

Background: Safe food free from diseases is the world's goal. Excessive usage of chemical fungicides is considered the most important danger for the climate. Natural alternatives with low costs have become the best choice for sustainable agriculture. Results: In the context of researching green materials instead of chemical fungicides, the fabrication of nano-Sargassum vulgare and its composite with zeolite was carried out. Followed by an investigation of the efficiency of their extracts on controlling sugar beet root rot diseases caused by soil-borne pathogens Rhizoctonia solani (R. solani), Sclerotium rolfsii (S. rolfsii), and Fusarium oxysporum (F. oxysporium) throughout two successive seasons (2020/2021 and 2021/2022) under greenhouse conditions. The structure and morphology of nanosargassum and its biocomposite were characterized by FTIR, SEM, EDX, Zeta potential, and size particles. The morphological structure of biocomposite was changed from tubularly structured into layers stacked on top of each other after impregnation of zeolite into S. vulgare, and its size was reduced from 85 to 50 nm, which was confirmed through size particle distribution. The biocomposite was the most effective one in managing root rot disease caused by R. solani. It reduces disease severity (DS) and disease incidence (DI) with efficacy (91.08% and 88.89%), respectively, compared to that recorded by commercial fungicides (63.09% and 61.81%). Conclusion: The newly fabricated structure of biocomposite facilitates the movement of macronutrients from the soil into the seed, which in turn improves growth characteristics and the sucrose yield quality in root juice, which is one of the most essential characters to advance the sugar industry.
