A study was carried out to determine the accuracy of using natural latrine logs to monitor swamp rabbits. Results showed there could be an error in monitoring swamp rabbits in places with no latrine logs and using artificial logs might solve the problem.

The radiotelemetry was employed to locate daytime forms of endangered Lower Keys marsh rabbits (LKMRs) throughout their range and determine habitat characteristics of diurnal cover. The managers were suggested to provide more saltmarsh habitat interspersed with buttonwoods to increase the amount of usable annual space and enhance ground cover in existing habitat.

A semiextensive system for breeding wild rabbits in captivity that provides an efficient way to maintain the genetic diversity of rabbits that would improve the low fertility rates and high mortality typically found when wild rabbits are reared in captivity is designed and implemented. Population viability analysis has been used to assess the extinction probability of the Lower Keys marsh rabbit, a federally endangered lagomorph found in the Lower Keys of Florida. It was possible to determine the mortality rate and variation in this rate for marsh rabbits through their sex and developmental stage. It was found that the marsh rabbit has a polygynous breeding system. Some males overlapped with more females than other males, but all males overlapped with at least one female at some time, showing that all males were in the breeding pool. It appears that survival rates must be increased if the marsh rabbit is to avoid extinction.
