This paper presents a study of regional optimal control strategies of a spatiotemporal SIR epidemic model which is formulated from existing SIR epidemic models by including a diffusion term. Our main objective is to characterize the two optimal controls that minimize the number of infected individuals, the corresponding vaccination and treatment costs. For that matter, we prove the existence of a pair of control and provide a characterization of optimal controls in terms of state and adjoint functions. Finally, we present numerical simulations on data concerning the evolution of the zoonotic Ebola virus in Africa. This paper deals with an optimal control problem with quadratic cost for a class of bilinear systems using the orthogonal functions technique. The main idea of this technique is that it reduces the problem to solving a system of algebraic equations, thus simplifying the problem. The control variable and the state variables are approximated by block pulse functions series. Then the system dynamics is transformed into systems of algebraic equations. We study, in this paper, infection dynamics when an epidemic emerges to many regions which are connected with their neighbors by any kind of anthropological movement. For this, we devise a multi-regions discrete-time model with the three classical SIR compartments, describing the spatial-temporal behaviors of homogenous susceptible, infected and removed populations. We suppose a large geographical domain, presented by a grid of colored cells, to exhibit at each instant i the spatial propagation of an epidemic which affects its different parts or sub-domains that we call here cells or regions. In order to minimize the number of infected individuals in some regions, we suggest an optimal control approach based on a travel-blocking vicinity strategy which aims to control a group of cells, or a patch, by restricting movements of infected people coming from its neighboring cells. We apply a discrete version of Pontryagin's maximum principle to state the necessary conditions and characterization of the travel-blocking optimal controls. We provide cellular simulations based on discrete progressive-regressive iterative schemes associated with the obtained multi-points boundary value problems. Ebola virus disease (EVD) can rapidly cause death to animals and people, for less than 1month. In addition, EVD can emerge in one region and spread to its neighbors in unprecedented durations. Such cases were reported in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. Thus, by blocking free travelers, traders, and transporters, EVD has had also impacts on economies of those countries. In order to find effective strategies that aim to increase public knowledge about EVD and access to possible treatment while restricting movements of people coming from regions at high risk of infection, we analyze three different optimal control approaches associated with awareness campaigns, treatment, and travel-blocking operations that health policy-makers could follow in the war on EVD. Our study is based on the application of Pontryagin's maximum principle, in a multi-regional epidemic model we devise here for controlling the spread of EVD. The model is in the form of multi-differential systems that describe dynamics of susceptible, infected, and removed populations belonging to p different geographical domains with three control functions incorporated. To have a more realistic model, in this paper, This manuscript is devoted to investigating a fractional-order mathematical model of Kouidere et al. That describes the dynamics of spread of African swine fever virus (ASFV). The aim of this work is to protect susceptible pigs from the virus, In our model, by including three controls which represent: the iron fencing and spraying pesticides and get rid. The aims of this paper is to reduce the number of infected pigs and ticks by using optimal control strategy and fractinal order derivation. Pontryagin's maximal principle is used to describe optimal controls with Caputo time-fractional derivative and the optimal system is resolved in an iterative manner. The dairy sector in Morocco is a sector that struggles to develop by facing several difficulties. Therefore, a significant gap has emerged between the main national producers and small farmers, while in the economy, the development of small economic actors presents an important lever of growth. If we assume that the consumer's milk demand function is linear, that it depends only on the consumer's price, and that production costs follow a decreasing return, and finally, by considering only two actors representing the different types of producers, we will show in this paper that a competitive production subsidy of 0.5 MAD can triple the market share of small farmers while being in a situation of Nash-Cournot's equilibrium. In addition, the addition of a subsidy to production costs will reduce the price of milk and, thus, increase the annual milk consumption of Moroccans from 59 liters, which is below the world average consumption, to 94 liters annually, thus benefiting the consumer in addition to small farmers. The main goal of this article is to devise the spatial-temporal spread of TB, in multiple neighboring domains, taking into account the epidemiological diversity of their populations. However, since both the environment and any population are spatially heterogeneous, it is obviously desirable to include spatial structure into an epidemic model. Individuals with tuberculosis can spread the disease by moving from one area to another. In addition, people travel by air between cities, so diseases can be spread quickly between very distant places (as was the case with the COVID-19). In our model, each region's studied population is divided into five compartments S, L1, I, L2, and R. Further, we introduce in our discrete systems three control variables which represent the effectiveness rates of vaccination, travel-blocking operation, and treatment. We focus in our study to control the outbreaks of an epidemic that affects a hypothetical population belonging to a specific region. Firstly, we analyze the epidemic model when the control strategy is based on the vaccination control only, and secondly, when the travel-blocking control is added, we finish with the introduction of the treatment control. The optimal control theory, based on Pontryagin's maximum principle, is applied thrice in this paper, for the characterizations of the vaccination, travel-blocking, and treatment controls. In this paper, we aim to investigate optimal control to a new mathematical model that describes agree-disagree opinions during polls, which we presented and analyzed in Bidah et al., 2020. In this paper, we aim to estimate and predict the situation of the new coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) in countries under quarantine measures. First, we present a new discrete-time mathematical model describing the evolution of the COVID-19 in a population under quarantine. We are motivated by the growing numbers of infections and deaths in countries under quarantine to investigate potential causes. We consider two new classes of people, those who respect the quarantine and stay at home, and those who do not respect the quarantine and leave their homes for one or another reason. Second, we use real published data to estimate the parameters of the model, and then, we estimate these populations in Morocco. We investigate the impact of people who underestimate the quarantine by considering an optimal control strategy to reduce this category and then reducing the number of the population at risk in Morocco. The main objective of this paper is to develop a new mathematical model to study, analyze, and control the family status in several regions and to discuss the impact of the connectivity of regions and the mobility of residents on the marital status of the family, by adopting a multiregion discrete-time model. The modelling and the control process of the system that describes the case of monogamous marriages in a multiregion framework are considered. Two combined control strategies are proposed, which allow reducing the virgin and divorced individuals and increasing the number of married individuals in a specific region. The first control is considered as the impact of public awareness campaigns to educate virgin men and women about the benefits of marriage for the individual and the society; the second control characterizes the legal procedures, administrative complications, and the heavy financial and social consequences of divorces. In this paper, we present a mathematical model that describes agree-disagree opinions during polls. We first present the different compartments of the model. Then, using the next-generation matrix method, we derive thresholds of the stability of equilibria. We consider two sets of data from the Reuters polling system regarding the approval rating of the U.S presidential in two terms. These two weekly polls data track the percentage of Americans who approve and disapprove of the way the President manages his work. To validate the reality of the underlying model, we use nonlinear least-squares regression to fit the model to actual data. In the first poll, we consider only 31 weeks to estimate the parameters of the model, and then, we compare the rest of the data with the outcome of the model over the remaining 21 weeks. We show that our model fits correctly the real data. The second poll data is collected for 115 weeks. We estimate again the parameters of the model, and we show that our model can predict the poll outcome in the next weeks, thus, whether the need for some control strategies or not. Finally, we also perform several computational and statistical experiments to validate the proposed model in this paper. To study the influence of various parameters on these thresholds and to identify the most influential parameters, sensitivity analysis is carried out to investigate the effect of the small perturbation near a parameter value on the value of the threshold. We propose a mathematical model that describes the dynamics of citizens who have the right to register on the electoral lists and participate in the political process and the negative influence of abstainers, who abstain from registration on the electoral lists, on the potential electors. By using Routh–Hurwitz criteria and constructing Lyapunov functions, the local stability and the global stability of abstaining-free equilibrium and abstaining equilibrium are obtained. We also study the sensitivity analysis of the model parameters to know the parameters that have a high impact on the reproduction number ℜ 0 . In addition, we propose an optimal strategy for an awareness program that helps politicians and officials to increase the rate of citizens registered on the electoral lists with an optimal effort. Despite advanced discoveries in cancerology, conventional treatments by surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy remain ineffective in some situations. Oncolytic virotherapy, i.e., the involvement of replicative viruses targeting specific tumor cells, opens new perspectives for better management of this disease. Certain viruses naturally have a preferential tropism for the tumor cells; others are genetically modifiable to present such properties, as the lytic cycle virus, which is a process that represents a vital role in oncolytic virotherapy. In the present paper, we present a mathematical model for the dynamics of oncolytic virotherapy that incorporates multiple time delays representing the multiple time periods of a lytic cycle. We compute the basic reproductive ratio R0, and we show that there exist a disease-free equilibrium point (DFE) and an endemic equilibrium point (DEE). By formulating suitable Lyapunov function, we prove that the disease-free equilibrium (DFE) is globally asymptotically stable if R0<1 and unstable otherwise. We also demonstrate that under additional conditions, the endemic equilibrium is stable. Also, a Hopf bifurcation analysis of our dynamic system is used to understand how solutions and their stability change as system parameters change in the case of a positive delay. In this work, we propose a discrete mathematical model that describes the dynamics of citizens who have the right to vote and their electoral behavior with regard to a political party during an awareness program or an electoral campaign. Also, we propose an optimal strategy for an awareness program or an election campaign that helps politicians to distinguish between different categories of voters in order to increase the participation rate in the electoral process and obtain the greatest possible number of votes with a minimal effort. In this paper, we propose a free final time optimal control approach applied to 4 ordinary differential equations which describe the tumor‐immune interactions after the injection of the bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG) in the bladder of a hypothetical patient. The main goal of this optimal control strategy is to find the optimal dosage amount needed in each instillation of BCG for stimulating the immune‐system and then killing superficial bladder tumors and to determine the optimal duration of treatment, adequate for stopping the intravesical therapy with lesser side‐effects. For this, we introduce into the model of interest, a control function which represents the dose of BCG immunotherapy procedure and we formulate a minimization problem where the final time is considered free (nonfixed). The characterization of the sought optimal control noted u∗ is derived based on Pontryagin's maximum principle, while the formulation of the sought optimal final time noted t f i n a l ∗ is based on formulae of sensitivity which are obtained conditions from the derivative of the objective function with respect to t f i n a l ∗. We investigate the resolution of the free final time optimal control problem in 3 possible cases: (a) when t f i n a l ∗ is quadratic in the final gain function, (b) when the final gain function does not depend on t f i n a l ∗, and (c) when t f i n a l ∗ is linear in the final gain function. Finally, we obtain the sought optimal dose of BCG, and we conclude that in case (a), we obtain an optimal duration which is more beneficial regarding the activation of immune cells while cases (b) and (c) both provide an optimal duration which is more adequate for the minimization of the tumoral population. Developing new approaches that help control the spread of infectious diseases is a critical issue for public health. Such approaches must consider the available resources and capacity of the healthcare system. In this paper, we present a new mathematical approach to controlling an epidemic model by investigating the optimal control that aims to bring the output of the epidemic to target a desired disease output yd = (ydi)i∈{0,...,N}. First, we use the state-space technique to transfer the trajectory controllability to optimal control with constraints on the final state. Then, we use the fixed point theorems to determine the set of admissible controls and solve the output trajectory controllability problem. The main goal of this article is to exhibit the importance of awareness programs and travel-blocking operations, in the prevention of HIV/AIDS outbreaks, based on a multi-domains SIR epidemic model. The model devised describes the spatial-temporal spread of HIV/AIDS, in p neighboring domains, taking into account the epidemiological diversity of their populations. For a first case of the study, we focus on discussing the benefits of awareness campaigns that aim to raise public consciousness among susceptible people, about the danger of HIV/AIDS. Thus, for the reason that intra-domains interventions are not always sufficient to prevent people belonging to a domain (neighborhood, town or city for example), from a rapid expansion of HIV/AIDS, we propose the travel-blocking strategy, as a second approach presenting inter-domains interventions that health-policy makers could follow, by restricting the number of suspicious people that can participate in spreading HIV/AIDS via travel, coming from domains at high-risk of infection to enter domains with lower risk. In this paper, we propose a continuous mathematical model that describes the spread of multistrains COVID-19 virus among humans: susceptible, exposed, infected, quarantined, hospitalized, and recovered individuals. The positivity and boundedness of the system solution are provided in order to get the well posedness of the proposed model. Secondly, three controls are considered in our model to minimize the multistrain spread of the disease, namely, vaccination, security campaigns, social distancing measures, and diagnosis. Furthermore, the optimal control problem and related optimality conditions of the Pontryagin type are discussed with the objective to minimize the number of infected individuals. Finally, numerical simulations are performed in the case of two strains of COVID-19 and with four control strategies. We highlight and study in this paper the phenomenon of the spread of addiction to electronic games, where the addict goes through stages before reaching the degree of addiction. In order to model this phenomenon, we have divided people into four groups, which are potential gamers, engaged gamers, addicted gamers, and gamers who have recovered from addiction. We propose a discrete mathematical model with control strategies using three controls that represent, respectively, u k , which represents awareness of the dangers of electronic games through written and visual media; v k , which represents the effort to direct children and adolescents to educational and entertaining alternative means; and w k , which represents creating rehabilitation centers for addicts to quit electronic game addiction. To characterize optimal controls, we use Pontryagin's maximum principle and the system of optimality solved by an iterative method. Finally, numerical simulations are presented with and without controls. Using a cost-effectiveness analysis, we will show that the control that represents the creation of rehabilitation centers for gaming addicts is the most cost-effective strategy to control the spread of gaming addiction. n this paper, we formulate an optimal control problem based on a tubercu- losis model with multiple infectious compartments and time delays. In order to have a more realistic model that allows highlighting the role of detection, loss to follow-up and treatment in TB transmission, we propose an extension of the classical SEIR model by dividing infectious patients in the compart- ment (I) into three categories: undiagnosed infected (I), diagnosed patients who are under treatment (T) and diagnosed patients who are lost to follow-up (L). We incorporate in our model delays representing the incubation period and the time needed for treatment. We also introduce three control variables in our delayed system which represent prevention, detection and the efforts that prevent the failure of treatment. The purpose of our control strategies is to minimize the number of infected individuals and the cost of intervention. The existence of the optimal controls is investigated, and a characterization of the three controls is given using the Pontryagin's maximum principle with delays. To solve numerically the optimality system with delays, we present an adapted iterative method based on the iterative Forward-Backward Sweep Method (FBSM). Numerical simulations performed using Matlab are also pro- vided. They indicate that the prevention control is the most effective one. We propose to model the phenomenon of the spread of a rumor in social networks in this paper. From an existing SIR model, we manipulate a new one that is based on the model of cholera in order to take into account professional pages that specialize in spreading rumors. In this paper, we consider a new discrete-time model that describes the spread of information by sharing in some kind of online environments such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter. The impact of sharing on the information amount is investigated, which is incorporated in the considered model as a supplement compartment. We consider the possible interactions between individuals and information on the Internet, such as posts, images, and videos. The theory of control is used to show the effectiveness of our optimal control strategy in reducing the information amount and sharers and then decreases the dissemination of false information that can lead to annoying situations and unstable state in the society. Numerical simulations are performed to investigate several scenarios before and after the use of our strategy of control. In this paper, we propose a discrete mathematical model that describes the interaction between the classes of drinkers, namely, potential drinkers P , moderate drinkers M , heavy drinkers H , poor heavy drinkers T p , rich heavy drinkers T r , and quitters of drinking Q . We also focus on the importance of treatment within addiction treatment centers aiming to find the optimal strategies to minimize the number of drinkers and maximize the number of heavy drinkers who join addiction treatment centers. We use three controls which represent awareness programs through media and education for the potential drinkers, efforts to encourage the heavy drinkers to join addiction treatment centers, and psychological support with follow-up for the individuals who quit drinking. We use Pontryagin's maximum principle in discrete time to characterize these optimal controls. The resulting optimality system is solved numerically by Matlab. In this paper, we present a continuous mathematical model P M H T r T p Q of alcohol drinking with the influence of private and public addiction treatment centers. We study the dynamical behavior of this model and we discuss the basic properties of the system and determine its basic reproduction number R 0 . We also study the sensitivity analysis of model parameters to know the parameters that have a high impact on the reproduction number R 0 . The stability analysis of the model shows that the system is locally as well as globally asymptotically stable at drinking-free equilibrium E 0 when R 0 ≤ 1. Vaccines are not administered on a continuous basis, but injections are practically introduced at discrete times often separated by an important number of time units, and this differs depending on the nature of the epidemic and its associated vaccine. In addition, especially when it comes to vaccination, most optimization approaches in the literature and those that have been subject to epidemic models have focused on treating problems that led to continuous vaccination schedules but their applicability remains debatable. In search of a more realistic methodology to resolve this issue, a control modeling design, where the control can be characterized analytically and then optimized, can definitely help to find an optimal regimen of pulsed vaccinations. Therefore, we propose a susceptible-infected-removed (SIR) hybrid epidemic model with impulse vaccination control and a compartment that represents the number of vaccinated individuals supposed to not acquire sufficient immunity to become permanently recovered due to the short-term effect of vaccines. A basic reproduction number, when the control is defined as a constant parameter, is calculated. Since we also need to find the optimal values of this impulse control when it is defined as a function of time, we start by stating a general form of an impulse version of Pontryagin's maximum principle that can be adapted to our case, and then we apply it to our model. Finally, we provide our numerical simulations that are obtained via an impulse progressive-regressive iterative scheme with fixed intervals between impulse times (theoretical example of an impulse at each week), and we conclude with a discussion of our results. Mass vaccination campaigns play major roles in the war against epidemics. Such prevention strategies cannot always reach their goals significantly without the help of media and awareness campaigns used to prevent contacts between susceptible and infected people. Feelings of fear, infodemics, and misconception could lead to some fluctuations of such policies. In addition to the vaccination strategy, the movement restriction approach is essential because of the factor of mobility or travel. However, anti-epidemic border measures may also be disturbed if some infected travelers manage to escape and infiltrate into a safer region. In this paper, we aim to study infection dynamics related to the spatial spread of an epidemic in interconnected regions in the presence of random perturbations caused by the three above-mentioned reasons. Therefore, we devise a stochastic multi-region epidemic model in which contacts between susceptible and infected populations, vaccination-based and movement restriction optimal control approaches are all assumed to be unpredictable, and then, we discuss the effectiveness of such policies. In order to reach our goal, we employ a stochastic maximum principle version for noised systems, state and prove the sufficient and necessary conditions of optimality, and finally provide the numerical results obtained using a stochastic progressive-regressive schemes method.
