Abstract

The sensor platform of zinpyr 4 (ZP4) through pyrrole-for-pyridyl substitution is modified and the effects of this variation on both photophysical and metal-binding properties are evaluated. The utility of aniline-based ZP probes for select biological imaging applications are investigated.

Abstract

The syntheses and photophysical properties of mercury sensors 2 and 3 (MS2 and MS3), two asymmetrically derivated fluorescein-based dyes designed for Hg(II) detection are described. Each of these sensors contain a single pyridyl-amine-thiol metal-binding moiety, form 1:1 complexes with Hg(II), and exhibit selectivity for Hg(II) over other group 12 metals, alkali and alkaline earth metals, and transition metals.
