Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is a common debilitating injury that can cause instability of the knee. We aimed to investigate the best management strategy between reconstructive surgery and non-surgical treatment for patients with a non-acute ACL injury and persistent symptoms of instability. Methods: We did a pragmatic, multicentre, superiority, randomised controlled trial in 29 secondary care National Health Service orthopaedic units in the UK. Patients with symptomatic knee problems (instability) consistent with an ACL injury were eligible. We excluded patients with meniscal pathology with characteristics that indicate immediate surgery. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) by computer to either surgery (reconstruction) or rehabilitation (physiotherapy but with subsequent reconstruction permitted if instability persisted after treatment), stratified by site and baseline Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score—4 domain version (KOOS4). This management design represented normal practice. The primary outcome was KOOS4 at 18 months after randomisation. The principal analyses were intention-to-treat based, with KOOS4 results analysed using linear regression. This trial is registered with ISRCTN, ISRCTN10110685, and ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02980367. Findings: Between Feb 1, 2017, and April 12, 2020, we recruited 316 patients. 156 (49%) participants were randomly assigned to the surgical reconstruction group and 160 (51%) to the rehabilitation group. Mean KOOS4 at 18 months was 73·0 (SD 18·3) in the surgical group and 64·6 (21·6) in the rehabilitation group. The adjusted mean difference was 7·9 (95% CI 2·5–13·2; p=0·0053) in favour of surgical management. 65 (41%) of 160 patients allocated to rehabilitation underwent subsequent surgery according to protocol within 18 months. 43 (28%) of 156 patients allocated to surgery did not receive their allocated treatment. We found no differences between groups in the proportion of intervention-related complications. Interpretation: Surgical reconstruction as a management strategy for patients with non-acute ACL injury with persistent symptoms of instability was clinically superior and more cost-effective in comparison with rehabilitation management. The current market imposes on economic agents the use of different strategies to achieve a sure competitive differential or even enough for the regular maintenance of their organizations. From this perspective, innovations emerge as an alternative capable of boosting the revenues of companies and technological development, a fact that, as a consequence, leads to an improvement in the well-being of the population, income distribution, and socioeconomic progress. In this context, it is up to the public authorities to adopt different incentive instruments to create an environment conducive to innovation in the country and in each state, such as tax incentives, which stimulate such activities by eliminating or reducing tax collection. So, considering the peculiarities of the State of Piauí, which presents incipient figures on technological innovation, this paper aims to analyze the effects of public policies of tax incentives for technological innovation in this part of the federation alternatives for improvement given the reality found. It is a bibliographic, documental, descriptive, exploratory research, with an inductive method and qualitative approach, carrying out a case study in which the actual context of Piauí State using the Law and Economics instrumental as an analysis tool. With this methodology, we were able to confirm our hypothesis that there are flaws in the public policies that currently exist and, therefore, the improvement of actions and public projects to support innovation with a focus on the State's specificities, a measure that is needed.

The study aims to identify the determinants of the degree of innovation of industries listed on the Brazilian Stock Exchange - B3. To this end, it used as sample 129 industries that trade their shares on the B3. From the principal component analysis, it was found that the innovation indicators are combined into two distinct factors. Therefore, it can be said that the degree of innovation of the firms takes into account the combination of indicators referring to the innovation strategies of exploitation and exploration, and, by encompassing two distinct factors, it is valid to mention that the degree of innovation has a two-dimensional character, suggesting the existence of a synergy between the innovation strategies.

Introdução: O luto antecipatório é definido como um mecanismo de enfrentamento para lidar com a vivência da finitude mediante possibilidade de separação de um ente querido. Objetivo: Compreender a influência de aspectos da Morte e do Morrer no processo de luto e de luto antecipatório em familiares presentes em Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos exclusivos. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa de caráter não experimental, exploratório e descritivo, realizado em Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos exclusivos de oncologia e geriatria localizados em um hospital presente na região Centro-Oeste. Resultados e Discussão: 80% dos participantes demonstraram não possuir conhecimento sobre o luto antecipatório, entretanto apresentaram falas que demonstravam a vivência de tal processo. Conclusão: Verifica-se que o não conhecimento do conceito pode interferir na dificuldade da vivência de tais processos.

Background Patellofemoral arthroplasty (PFA) is indicated for isolated patellofemoral arthritis. PFA is a less invasive, bone-preserving procedure with faster recovery when compared to total knee replacement. We aim to present the functional outcome, survival rate, and complications of PFA from our center. Methods A total of 45 consecutive PFA performed (mean age 58.02 ± 9.2 years; 34 females and 11 males; Avon prosthesis) during the study period was included. Prosthesis survivorship was measured using revision as the endpoint, and functional outcome was assessed using Oxford knee scores (OKSs), EQ-5D, and satisfaction scores. Postoperative complications, the number of revisions, and the reasons causing them were collected. Results The mean follow-up was 48.7 (range 16-66) months. As compared to preoperative scores, OKS and Eq5d showed significant improvements (p0.001). The satisfaction scores indicated that 28 patients (62%) were very satisfied, 10 (26.7%) were satisfied, and seven (15.5%) were dissatisfied. Four patients (8.9%) underwent revision surgery with a total knee replacement. Out of four patients requiring revision, two had progressive arthritis of the medial compartment, one had aseptic loosening of the implants, and one had trauma. Five patients showed persistent anteromedial knee pain (12.2%); one patient had maltracking requiring lateral release; one patient developed stiffness with knee flexion less than 60 degrees requiring manipulation under anesthesia. Conclusion Our results indicated that good or excellent functional outcomes can be expected in80% of patients with survivorship of 91.1% at mid-term. Careful patient selection and counseling should be done informing of the risk of dissatisfaction/persistent pain and revision surgery in the mid and long term. Long-term outcomes and factors determining good outcomes need to be evaluated in future research.

The Brazilian basslet (Gramma brasiliensis) is an ornamental fish species of significance to the fish market, and the development of a breeding protocol is of interest to the aquarium trade. There is little information regarding the behaviour of G. brasiliensis in captivity; thus, the aims of this study were to: (1) investigate pair and harem formation in different-sized aquaria (70 and 110 L) and tanks (150 and 310 L); (2) investigate the choice of different macroalgae species and synthetic materials by the fish for nest building in captivity; and (3) describe the courtship behaviour of captive fish and compare it with available literature for G. brasiliensis and Gramma loreto in natural environments. Based on the results, we suggest that G. brasiliensis should be kept in pairs because of their aggressive behaviour. Macroalgae of the genus Chaetomorpha and all synthetic materials were used by the fish to build nests. The courtship behaviour of G. brasiliensis in captivity is described for the first time and is similar to that reported for G. loreto in a natural habitat, namely ‘U-turn with body quivering’.

The aims of this study were to study the biochemical metabolism alterations generated by saline stress in two cowpea cultivars: BRS Guariba (moderately tolerant) and BR3 Tracuateua (sensitive), and to investigate the action of brassinosteroid in attenuation of oxidative stress. The results for water content and damage index in cell membranes were similar. Plants with 24-Epibrassinolide hormone maintained their water content satisfactory and without any membrane extravasation, whereas, for plants with salinity these variables decreased considerably. The results showed that salinity increased sodium (Na+) contents and reduced potassium (K+) content, which caused water increases allowing a higher dilution of sodium ions (Na+), avoiding cellular toxicity. The antioxidant defense system of these plants (catalase, superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, and guaiacol peroxidase) were activated mainly in characterization of salt stress, increasing their concentrations trying to avoid toxicity. The association of brassine and salinity caused reduction of lipid peroxidation characterized by malondialdehyde variable. These results corroborated the efficacy of the brassine hormone in cowpea plants under saline stress, characterizing as a plant plasticity.

The purpose this study is to evaluate the influence of innovation on the performance of Brazilian soccer clubs, aiming to deepen the interrelationship between the themes and provide answers and possibilities for more effective decisions by managers. With data from the years 2015 to 2017, a sample of 26 clubs soccer clubs participating in Series A of the Brazilian Football Championship used. Brands registration and the representation of intangible assets serve as proxies for innovation. Club performance measured by revenue logarithm (financial performance), return on equity (economic performance) and CBF ranking (sports performance). In order to meet the general objective of the research, linear regression applied. Considering the study variables registration of brands and representativeness of intangible assets as proxies for measuring innovation, it was inferred that there is significant and positive influence of innovation on financial and sports performance, this is, innovation contributes to the increase of performances. Thus, it inferred that innovation is a potential source of competitive advantage as it results in increased performance.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Schizophrenia is often related to cognitive deficits. Mental health nurses are involved in health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in schizophrenia. However, the nursing literature addressing cognitive rehabilitation from schizophrenia is very limited. Cognition and its domains (communication, information processing, attentiveness, concentration, orientation, memory and calculation skills) are established by the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), but they are difficult to measure. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: We present a new standardized cognitive assessment to be administered by nurses to people diagnosed with schizophrenia. The Brief Cognitive Scale for schizophrenia (BCog-S) was validated in people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia (including people with schizoaffective disorder), using as references both the assessment of controls matched by age, sex and educational level, and another brief cognitive battery as the gold standard. WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE?: Nurses can effectively use the BCog-S to measure cognition and its domains in people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. It is a standardized cognitive assessment consisting of a brief battery to be administered by nurses (and other professionals) to people diagnosed with schizophrenia. It is useful for establishing normative reference values for the outcome and its indicators. Using the BCog-S, nurses can determine the cognitive status of the people diagnosed with schizophrenia they care for, measuring cognitive improvements, lapses or stability attributable to their rehabilitation. Nurses can demonstrate their contribution to cognitive rehabilitation with these measurements of improvement or stability. ABSTRACT: Introduction Nurses play a key role in cognitive rehabilitation programs for people diagnosed with schizophrenia. Aim To design and validate a brief battery to assess the cognitive status of people diagnosed with schizophrenia from the nursing perspective. Method Study developed to evaluate a diagnostic test. The Brief Cognitive Scale for schizophrenia (BCog-S) is a hybrid battery composed of previously validated brief tests, designed to meet the dimensions of cognition considered by the NOC. The psychometric properties of the instrument were measured using the Screening for Cognitive Impairment in Psychiatry-Spanish version (SCIP-S) as the gold standard, and against the scores obtained by matched controls. Results About 100 people diagnosed with schizophrenia and 100 controls participated. The battery's internal consistency was 0.70. The Pearson correlation with the SCIP-S was 0.80 (sensitivity = 0.86, specificity = 0.80). The mean T-score of those diagnosed with schizophrenia was 2.2 standard deviations below that of the controls. There were significant differences in educational level, employment and cohabitation. Discussion The BCog-S showed acceptable psychometric properties. It can discriminate cognitive impairment and could be useful for establishing normative reference values. Implications for practice Nurses can use the BCog-S to measure cognition in people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Purpose of review We briefly address the advances in genetics, pathophysiology, and phenotypes of chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). This is one of the most studied primary immunodeficiencies, which comprise mutations in genes encoding the different subunits of the NADPH oxidase system. Those mutations lead to defective reactive oxygen species production, and consequently a failure to eliminate pathogens. Recent findings Patients with CGD are susceptible to fungal, bacterial, and parasitic infections. Other symptoms, as systemic adverse effects to BCG vaccine and hyperinflammation, are also important clinical conditions in this disease. This wide-ranging clinical spectrum of CGD comes from heterogeneity of mutations, X-linked-CGD or autosomal recessive inheritance, and diverse environmental pressure factors. Early accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment are necessary to diminish the consequences of the disease. The most used diagnostic tests are dihydrorhodamine, cytochrome c reduction, and luminol-enhanced chemiluminescence assay. Summary The determination of mutations is essential for diagnosis confirmation and genetic counseling. CGD treatment usually includes prophylactic antibiotics and antifungals. Prophylactic recombinant human interferon-γ, immunosuppressors or immune modulators may be, respectively, indicated for preventing infections or inflammatory manifestations. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and gene therapy are currently the available options for curative treatment of CGD.

The effects of the cell separation method and the biomass processing of Nannochloropsis oculata were evaluated with respect to the cultivation performance of rotifers (Brachionus sp.). The algal culture was harvested by centrifugation or flocculation, and the biomass separation efficiency and the concentration factor were determined. The biomass was processed by chilling, freezing, heat-drying, or freeze-drying; and the cell integrity, resuspension percentage, and sedimentation profile of the diets were evaluated. The zootechnical performance (maximum rotifer density, growth rate, maximum egg production, fecundity, and feed ingestion rate) of rotifer cultures that fed the concentrated diets was compared with feeding the fresh culture of N. oculata (control treatment). Centrifugation resulted in 97% separation efficiency and a concentration factor of 578 and flocculation followed by centrifugation showed an efficiency of ~ 100% and concentration factor of 444. The harvesting technique did not have a significant influence on the characteristics of the diets and also on the zootechnical performance of the rotifers. The characteristics of the chilled concentrates (cell integrity, resuspension percentage, and sedimentation profiles) were similar to the control treatment, and the rotifers fed on those diets had the highest growth performances. Rotifers fed on frozen diets presented the worst performances. The heat-dried diets presented the lowest cell viability percentages, lowest resuspension percentages, and higher sedimentation rates. The feed ingestion rates of these diets were the lowest, resulting on inferior growth performance of the rotifers. In summary, both harvesting methods could be used, and chilling is the most recommended method for processing N. oculata biomass.

In this study the influence of the capital structure in the investments in innovation of 120 industries listed on the BM&FBovespa was analyzed in the period from 2013 to 2015. As proxies for capital structure, we consider short-term, long-term and total debt. In order to represent the investments in innovation, the number of registered patents and the percentage of expenditure in with R&D in relation to sales were considered. Through the Fischer LSD Test, it was possible to verify that companies that do not invest in innovation have higher debts. Through linear regression with panel data, it was verified that only the long-term and total debts have a positive influence on innovation investments through patents. Therefore, the results suggest that own resources may be insufficient to investments in innovation, leading third parties resources to contribute to the increase of investments in innovation through patent registration as stated by the Pecking Order Theory, as well as to collaborate to the reduction of agency costs, limiting the role of the managers, as proposed by the Agency Theory. Analisou-se a influência da estrutura de capital nos investimentos em inovação de 120 indústrias listadas na BM&FBovespa no período de 2013 a 2015. Como proxies para estrutura de capital, consideraram-se os endividamentos de curto prazo, de longo prazo e total. Para representar os investimentos em inovação, utilizou-se o número de patentes registradas e o percentual dos gastos com P&D em relação às vendas. Através do Teste LSD de Fischer, foi possível constatar que as empresas que não investem em inovação possuem endividamento superior. Por meio da regressão linear com dados em painel, verificou-se que somente os endividamentos de longo prazo e total influenciam positivamente os investimentos em inovação via patentes. Assim, os resultados sugerem que os recursos próprios podem ser insuficientes para investimentos em inovação, levando os recursos de terceiros a contribuir para o aumento dos investimentos em inovação via registro de patentes, conforme preconiza a Teoria Pecking Order, bem como colaborar para a redução dos custos de agência, limitando a atuação dos gestores, como proposto pela Teoria da Agência.

Extraction of carotenoids and fatty acids from microalgae is a technological bottleneck in processing. An improved extraction process was developed to scale the production of these bioproducts from Nannochloropsis gaditana. Different cell disruption methods were evaluated in terms of carotenoids release. Ethanol was substituted by isopropyl alcohol in a three-component solution of water:isopropyl alcohol:hexane (WIH), in which the extracts were separated by solution partitioning. This resulted in higher carotenoid and fatty acid recovery yields if compared to the standard method. The extraction method was replicated on a pilot scale obtaining similar carotenoid recovery yields, higher than those of the standard method. Although fatty acid recovery was lower than that of the small-scale tests, yields above 85% were obtained. This demonstrated that the method was scalable for the extraction of high- value products from microalgae up to 10 L reactor volume. The use of isopropyl alcohol, which is cheaper than ethanol, and the separation of the solution phases by partitioning (avoiding drying) could contribute to reduce operation costs of downstream processing.

O Reddit é uma rede social online em que usuários interessados em um mesmo tópico interagem uns com os outros em subreddits. Subreddits para aprendizado de idioma vem atraindo usuários de diferentes nı́veis de pro- ficiência a cada ano, buscando melhorar o aprendizado. Em particular, no subreddit German, os usuários são aconselhados a informar seu nı́vel de pro- ficiência ao escrever um post. Contudo, apenas 20% dos posts possuem tais tags. Abordamos aqui o problema de classificar a proficiência dos usuários a partir de suas publicações. Conduzimos uma série de experimentos que demonstram que classificadores que tratam as publicações como observações independentes tem baixo desempenho. À vista disso, propomos um novo modelo, SEMPLICe, que considera as caracterı́sticas textuais e também o histórico de um usuário no subreddit para classificar sua proficiência ao longo do tempo. Baseado na suposição de que a proficiência é não decresce desde que um usuário permaneça ativo, SEMPLICe alcança um F 1 ponderado até 29,6% maior que os métodos anteriores. SEMPLICe utiliza programação dinâmica para obter complexidade linear no tamanho do histórico de cada usuário.

People with mental illnesses are at a higher risk than the general population of suffering from somatic diseases. However, they receive less attention from healthcare services. Some studies have indicated that this situation can be partially explained by the stigmatizing attitudes of health professionals, including nurses. With the objective to improve future nursing professionals’ attitudes towards people with mental illnesses, an intervention involving direct contact with people who had lived experience with mental illnesses was designed and its effectiveness was measured. It consisted of a single 90-min session involving a mental health professional, a person with a mental illness, and a family member of someone with a mental illness. The intervention was based on a structured script where they described their experiences with the illness and their history of recovery, and then, they had a discussion with the attendees. The effectiveness of this approach was measured through a quasi-experimental study with a pretest–post-test design. The differences in the scores obtained in the AQ-27-E questionnaire before and after the intervention indicated that there was a decrease in fear, feelings of danger, avoidance, segregation, and coercive attitudes, while positive feelings increased, including a tendency to help and compassion. These results are important for clinical practice because this intervention could improve the quality of care provided to people with mental illnesses. BAY 41-2272 is a guanylyl cyclase (GC) stimulator derived from YC-1 (3-[(5'-hydroxymethyl-2'-furyl)-1-benzyl indazole]). Previous studies by our group showed that BAY 41-2272 activates human monocytes via soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) and cGMP. In this study, we investigated the effect of BAY 41-2272 on human neutrophil function and found that 30 μM BAY 41-2272 inhibits neutrophil migration (1.82-fold lower than FMLP, P < 0.05 by one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test), oxidative burst (1.70-fold lower than PMA, P < 0.05 by one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test), and IL-8 cytokine production (1.80-fold lower than PMA, P < 0.05 by one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test). Our results suggest that these effects are independent of the sGC pathway but dependent instead on cGMP production, as the response induced by 30 μM BAY 41-2272 was 6.40-fold greater than that observed in our negative control (P < 0.05 by parametric t-test). 1H-[1, 2, 4] oxadiazolo [4,3-a] quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ), which is an irreversible inhibitor of sGC, was unable to reverse the effects of BAY 41-2272 on human neutrophils, indicating that this drug acts independently of sGC. Our results confirm the immunomodulatory effect of BAY 41-2272 on human neutrophils.

Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar a influência do grau de internacionalização no risco sistemático no âmbito das empresas listadas na BM&FBovespa. Além da classificação dos riscos, a partir do que é divulgado em relatórios corporativos, o estudo se diferencia por investigar os elementos que influenciam o risco nas empresas quando relacionados com a internacionalização. De natureza quantitativa e descritiva, abrange 121 empresas participantes das carteiras teóricas dos índices de governança da BM&FBovespa. Foram utilizadas técnicas estatísticas como análise de correspondência múltipla, análise de componentes principais e regressão linear múltipla. A classificação dos fatores de risco baseou-se na análise de conteúdo dos formulários de referência de 2014. Os dados referentes ao risco sistemático foram extraídos da base Economática®. No tocante ao disclosure dos fatores de risco, os resultados apontam para a necessidade de maior detalhamento, de modo a proporcionar aos stakeholders menor incerteza no momento de decidir sobre a alocação de seus investimentos. Conclui-se que o grau de internacionalização influencia negativamente o risco sistemático nas empresas, pois a diversificação da atuação da firma no escopo geográfico se traduz em benefícios, incluindo a redução do risco.

Reddit é uma rede social online na qual os usuários podem trocar informação sobre interesses comuns em comunidades específicas (subreddits). Recentemente, comunidades voltadas para o aprendizado de idiomas vêm ganhando popularidade. Esses subreddits permitem que usuários interajam, independentemente do seu nível de proficiência. Interações típicas incluem a resolução de dúvidas e a troca de dicas para facilitar o aprendizado. Neste trabalho, analisamos quatro comunidades: EnglishLearning, French, German e Spanish. Esta análise foca em interações entre usuários, como as discussões se desenrolam em torno das threads e os traços linguísticos dos usuários que pertencem a diferentes níveis de proficiência. Além disso, ressaltamos as semelhanças e diferenças entre essas comunidades.

In light of the Theory of Bird in Hand, we tested the correlation between a set of variables and the dividend policies adopted by electric utilities traded on BM&FBovespa. Information was retrieved from 2014 financial reports and reference forms issued by 33 firms, and from the Economatica® database. The findings were submitted to Spearman correlation analysis and homogeneity analysis (Homals). Dividend policy was proxied by the combination of payout ratio (PR) and dividend yield (DY). Based on recommendations in the literature, six hypotheses were formulated correlating dividend policy with the variables listing segment, shareholder concentration, cash flow, company size, risk, and source of capital. Firms in the ‘New Market’ listing segment with large cash flows were associated with high PR and DY, as predicted by the Bird-in-Hand Theory, but only one of the hypotheses (H3: correlation between cash flow and dividend policy) was confirmed in the correlation analysis. No significant correlation was found between dividend policies and the remaining variables. The results have implications for our understanding of dividend policy and corporate governance on the Brazilian capital market. The evidence presented in this study may help managers identify factors associated with dividend policy and investors make informed choices. Con base en la Teoría del Pájaro en la Mano, fueron identificados algunos factores que se correlacionan con las políticas de dividendos adoptadas por las empresas del sector eléctrico listadas en la BM&FBovespa. Se analizaron los demostrativos financieros y formularios de referencia de 33 empresas, alusivos a 2014. También fueron extraídos datos del sistema Economática®, y la investigación involucró el análisis de la correlación de Spearman y el análisis de homogeneidad (Homals). Se consideró como política de dividendos el análisis conjunto de los índices Payout Ratio y Dividend Yield. A partir de las recomendaciones de la literatura fueron levantadas seis hipótesis, las cuales relacionan la política de dividendos con las variables: segmento de lista, concentración accionaria, flujo de caja, tamaño, riesgo y el origen del capital. Se constató una asociación entre empresas con mayor flujo de caja y participantes del Nuevo Mercado y Payout e Yield altos, corroborando los preceptos de la Teoría do Pájaro en la Mano. Sin embargo, el análisis de correlación ha indicado apenas a la aceptación de la hipótesis H3, que preveía que el flujo de caja se correlacionaría con la política de dividendos. Ninguna evidencia puede ser inferida sobre la correlación entre las políticas de dividendos de las empresas y los demás factores investigados. Los resultados traen implicaciones para la comprensión de las políticas de dividendos y para la gobernanza corporativa en el mercado de capitales brasileño. Las evidencias observadas para la muestra contribuyen para los gestores en la identificación de los factores que se correlacionan con la política de dividendos en las empresas y para los inversionistas que pretenden decidir em que destinar su capital. Com base na Teoria do Pássaro na Mão, foram identificados alguns fatores que se correlacionam com as políticas de dividendos adotadas pelas empresas do setor elétrico listadas na BM&FBovespa. Analisaram-se os demonstrativos financeiros e formulários de referência de 33 empresas, alusivos a 2014. Também foram extraídos dados do sistema Economática®, e a investigação envolveu a análise de correlação de Spearman e a análise de homogeneidade (Homals). Considerou-se como política de dividendos a análise conjunta dos índices Payout Ratio e Dividend Yield. A partir das recomendações da literatura foram levantadas seis hipóteses, as quais relacionam a política de dividendos com as variáveis: segmento de listagem, concentração acionária, fluxo de caixa, tamanho, risco e origem do capital. Constatou-se associação entre empresas com maior fluxo de caixa e participantes do Novo Mercado e Payout e Yield altos, corroborando os preceitos da Teoria do Pássaro na Mão. Entretanto, a análise de correlação indicou apenas à aceitação da hipótese H3, que previa que o fluxo de caixa se correlacionaria com a política de dividendos. Nenhuma evidência pode ser inferida sobre a correlação entre as políticas de dividendos das empresas e os demais fatores investigados. Os resultados trazem implicações para a compreensão das políticas de dividendos e para a governança corporativa no mercado de capitais brasileiro.
