3. Template-Assisted Growth of High-Quality α-Phase FAPbI3Crystals in Perovskite Solar Cells Using Thiol-Functionalized MoS2Nanosheets

Abstract

Formamidinium lead iodide (FAPI) has gained attention for hybrid perovskite solar cell (PSC) applications due to its enhanced stability and narrow bandgap. However, a significant challenge remains in inducing and stabilizing the elusive perovskite “black phase”─photoactive cubic α-FAPI─as the relatively bulky FA+cations tend to favor the thermodynamically stable nonphotoactive “yellow phase”. In this study, we present a templated growth strategy employing thiol-functionalized MoS2nanosheets as templates. By introduction of 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA)-functionalized MoS2as a growth template, precise control over crystal formation was achieved, favoring the growth of high-quality α-FAPI films. These advanced templated films exhibited substantial improvements in charge transport properties, efficient light absorption, and enhanced charge extraction. As a result, the PSCs achieved a significantly enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to the nontemplated control device, increasing from 20.6 to 22.5%. The MoS2-incorporated device also demonstrated excellent shelf stability, maintaining 91% of the initial PCE even after 1600 h of storage without device encapsulation.

Abstract

En masse cell migration is more relevant compared with single-cell migration in physiological processes of tissue formation, such as embryogenesis, morphogenesis, and wound healing. In these situations, cells are influenced by the proximity of other cells including interactions facilitated by substrate mechanics. Here, we found that when fibroblasts migrated en masse over a hydrogel, they established a well-defined deformation field by traction forces and migrated along a trajectory defined by field gradients. The mechanics of the hydrogel determined the magnitude of the gradient. For materials stiff enough to withstand deformation related to cellular traction forces, such patterns did not form. Furthermore, migration patterns functioned poorly on very soft matrices where only a minimal traction gradient could be established. The largest degree of alignment and migration velocity occurred on the gels with the largest gradients. Granulation tissue formation in punch wounds of juvenile pigs was correlated strongly with the modulus of the implanted gel, in agreement with in vitro en masse cell migration studies. These findings provide basic insight into the biomechanical influences on fibroblast movement in early wounds and relevant design criteria for the development of tissue-engineered constructs that aim to stimulate en masse cell recruitment for rapid wound healing.

Abstract

Organic-inorganic halide perovskites feature excellent optoelectronic properties but poor chemical stability. While passivating perovskite grain boundary (GB) by polymers shows prospects on long-term performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), its detailed impact on the ion migration phenomenon, which largely deteriorates the PSC stability, remains less probed. Here, we introduce a new polar polymer, polycaprolactone (PCL), to passivate GBs of methylammonium lead triiodide (MAPbI3) perovskite with only 1-2 polymer monolayers via direct backbone attachment. The PSCs with passivated MAPbI3, using a classic but less stable Spiro-OMeTAD (2,2′,7,7′-tetrakis[N,N-di(4-methoxyphenyl)amino]-9,9′-spirobifluorene) hole transport layer (HTL), exhibit improved power conversion efficiencies up to 20.1%, with 90% of the initial PCE being preserved after 400 h ambient storage, and 80% even after 100 h, 85 °C aging. The improved PSC stability indicates critical roles of PCL GB passivation in retarding moisture-induced decomposition and suppressing ion migration within the perovskite. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry reveals that I- ions can actively migrate into the electrode, HTL, and their interface in nonpassivated PSCs, even without an externally applied electric field, while such migration is significantly mitigated in PCL-passivated PSCs. This effective GB passivation by PCL suggests an important potential of polymer additives toward the development of stable high-performance PSCs. © 2020 American Chemical Society.

Abstract

The differences between the decanethiolate gold nanoparticles synthesized by two different routes, one-phase and two-phase methods are investigated. It is revealed that by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray reflectivity (XR), the close-packed monolayer of the two-phase particles collapsed and folded into multilayer films upon further compression.

Two processes are included in drop evaporation which are diffusion of liquid molecules into the air (diffusion part) and flow of the liquid molecules from inside the drop to the free outer shell liquid layer within the liquid-vapor interface (evaporation part), and the evaporation part was an active factor and determined the differences in drop evaporation behaviors.

Abstract

A study was conducted to analyze a synthetic model of determining dense polymer brushes on planar surfaces. A self-assembled monolayer of biphenyllithium moieties on gold substrates was utilized to promote the anionic polymerization of styrene. The gold substrates were obtained by thermal evaporation of titanium as an adhesive layer and gold onto planar microscope glass slides. Findings indicated that the method results in densely grafted polymer brushes.
