This study aims to identify the most important barriers in medical library and information sciences (medical LIS) education in Iran and to present suitable solutions to remove these barriers. In this qualitative study, data were gathered from semi-structured interviews with 18 medical LIS PhD students and then analyzed using a qualitative content analysis approach. Educational barriers in medical LIS divided into four categories: curriculum barriers, department and faculty member barriers, official education and professional needs barriers, and student and graduate barriers. Medical LIS education requires major changes, including changes in the current curriculum, quality evaluation of educational groups and faculty members, matching curriculum with current stakeholder needs, as well as addressing motivational and employment barriers for graduates.

Background: The diversities of medical information resources and health information needs in recent years have caused another form of summarization and abstract writing to appear in the information capsule (IC) versus various types of abstracts. The present study was conducted with the aim to analyze the current IC, giving a unique definition and a standard structure for the development of an IC, and how it can be represented and implemented. Methods: This study was conducted in three phases in the form of a qualitative study. In the first phase, a library review study was done on the relevant websites and international databases, such as PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Sciences, Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Embase. In the second phase, the results of the previous stage were discussed with a panel of experts. In the third phase, a suggested frame for an IC was stated. Results: A specific structure was suggested for IC so that, in addition to having parts of similar cases, they had extra parts. The suggested frame includes title, name of the IC writers and reviewers, question or goals, design or methods, setting, patient or community of the study, result, commentary, citation, topic, picture, and tag and can be used in different fields. Conclusions: Due to the importance of IC in summarizing information, our suggested structure should be used in other fields and be subject to trial and error. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Aluminum phosphate (ALP) poisoning has a high mortality rate (MR) secondary to cardiogenic shock. Recently, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) showed a successful result in this issue. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the MR of patients with ALP poisoning who underwent ECMO versus those with conventional treatment. Materials and Methods: Two parallel databases' reviews were done to find the ECMO treatment-applied studies or conventional treatment-applied studies according to the PRISMA protocol. All studies in any languages and English conference abstracts were included for ECMO treatment-applied studies. Only English-language human observational studies, which reported MR, were included in conventional treatment-applied studies. All ETAS case reports were summarized and used as a newly generated cross-sectional study (NGCSS) for inclusion in the meta-analysis. Results: Out of 167 and 1043 records, 17 case reports (24 cases), 3 cross-sectional studies, and 9 conventional treatment-applied studies were selected. In meta-analysis NGCSS applied as the fourth cross-sectional ECMO treatment-applied studies. The overall MR of ECMO-treated cases (23% [95% confidence interval (CI): 7%-39%]) was significantly less than conventionally treated cases (60% [95% CI: 39%-63%]; P < 0.001). In ECMO-treated cases, the weighted mean difference (WMD) for age, blood pH, ALP dose, hospitalization, ECMO lag time, and ECMO duration were not statistically significant between survived and nonsurvived cases. However, WMD of cardiac ejection fraction (4.6%; 95% CI: 2.76%-6.39%; P < 0.0001), exposure to hospitalization lag time (-2.05; 95% CI: -4.05-0.14 h; P = 0.06), and length of hospital stay (16; 95% CI: 12.0-20.5 days; P < 0.0001) between survived and nonsurvived ETC were significant. Conclusion: ECMO reduced the MR of ALP-poisoned patients; however, it is a highly invasive and complicated procedure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Hospitals must maintain their effective operations during and after disasters. Due to the current increase in disasters, hospital resilience has drawn scholarly attention. This study aimed to review studies on the changes in the definition of hospital resilience after COVID‐19, build a conceptual framework for careful measurement, and identify the main dimensions of hospital resilience emphasized during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Design: The initial phase of this study was a systematic review of articles published before the COVID‐19 pandemic to extract the hospital resilience‐related dimensions for the second phase. The second phase involved text‐mining articles published both before and after the emergence of COVID‐19. Setting: In the systematic review phase, 12 databases were searched from 2006 to January 2020, including Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE through PubMed, Embase, ERIC, ProQuest, the Cochrane Library, Emerald, Springer, Science Direct/ELSEVIER, Google Scholar, and SID (for Persian language papers). Then, after COVID‐19, articles published in these databases between January 2020 and May 2022 were evaluated using text mining. Result: During the systematic phase, 17 out of 1530 papers published before COVID‐19 were synthesized to collect components of hospital disaster resilience. These identified components were the inputs for the text‐mining phase. The text mining on pre‐COVID papers resulted in six clusters, with the highest weight (0.65) belonging to general resilience and disaster preparedness, while in the post‐COVID text mining phase, including 70 papers, 8 clusters have been identified, with the highest weight cluster (0.78) focusing on the mental and psychological aspects of resilience among healthcare workers. Conclusion: Following the COVID pandemic, scholarly attention has shifted to the more personal dimensions of hospital resilience, including psychological resiliency. It seems necessary for policymakers to focus more on the individual and psychological resilience of hospital staff. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
