Real time vehicle detection is a challenging task for urban traffic surveillance. Increase in urbanization leads to increase in accidents and traffic congestion in junction areas resulting in delayed travel time. In order to solve these problems, an intelligent system utilizing automatic detection and tracking system is significant. But this becomes a challenging task at road intersection areas which require a wide range of field view. For this reason, fish eye cameras are widely used in real time vehicle detection purpose to provide large area coverage and 360 degree view at junctions. However, it introduces challenges such as light glare from vehicles and street lights, shadow, non-linear distortion, scaling issues of vehicles and proper localization of small vehicles. To overcome each of these challenges, a modified YOLOv5 object detection scheme is proposed. YOLOv5 is a deep learning oriented convolutional neural network (CNN) based object detection method. The proposed scheme for detecting vehicles in fish-eye images consists of a light-weight day-night CNN classifier so that two different solutions can be implemented to address the day-night detection issues. Furthurmore, challenging instances are upsampled in the dataset for proper localization of vehicles and later on the detection model is ensembled and trained in different combination of vehicle datasets for better generalization, detection and accuracy. For testing, a real world fisheye dataset provided by the Video and Image Processing (VIP) Cup organizer ISSD has been used which includes images from video clips of different fisheye cameras at junction of different cities during day and night time. Experimental results show that our proposed model has outperformed the YOLOv5 model on the dataset by 13.7% mAP @ 0.5.

The use of Sentinel-2 images to compute Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) has many applications, including water body area detection. However, cloud cover poses significant challenges in this regard, which hampers the effectiveness of Sentinel-2 images in this context. In this paper, we present a deep learning model that can generate NDWI given Sentinel-1 images, thereby overcoming this cloud barrier. We show the effectiveness of our model, where it demonstrates a high accuracy of 0.9134 and an AUC of 0.8656 to predict the NDWI. Additionally, we observe promising results with an R2 score of 0.4984 (for regressing the NDWI values) and a Mean IoU of 0.4139 (for the underlying segmentation task). In conclusion, our model offers a first and robust solution for generating NDWI images directly from Sentinel-1 images and subsequent use for various applications even under challenging conditions such as cloud cover and nighttime.

Traveling through toll plazas is one of the primary causes of congestion, as identified in recent studies. Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems can mitigate this problem. This experiment focuses on enhancing the security of ETC using RFID tags and number plate verification. For number plate verification, image processing is employed, and a CNN classifier is implemented to detect vehicle registration numbers. Based on the registered number, a notification email is sent to the respective owner for toll fee payment within a specific timeframe to avoid fines. Additionally, toll fees are automatically deducted in real-time from the owner's balance. This system benefits travelers by eliminating the need to queue for toll payment, thereby reducing delays and improving convenience.

In the past two decades, Bangladesh experienced a substantial reduction in the prevalence of child labour, associated with improvements in school enrolment and completion. Despite progress, child labour persists in the country, also driven by household earning losses and school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This report addresses a timely need for new research to help decision-makers and practitioners identify policy and programmatic actions that can support prevention and reduction of child labour, with a focus on the role of education. Drawing on quantitative secondary data analysis and qualitative primary data analysis, it offers an accessible and rigorous overview of recent trends and patterns in child labour and explores how these relate to children's schooling experiences. Implications of COVID-19 for education and labour, and the role of child marriage as a key related outcome, are also assessed. This paper studies the radio resource management (RRM) for the \emph{uplink} (UL) of a cellular system with codebook-based \emph{hybrid beamforming}. We consider the often neglected but highly practical multi-channel case with fewer radio frequency chains in the base station than user equipment (UEs) in the cell, assuming one RF chain per UE. As for any UL RRM, a per-time slot solution is needed as the allocation of power to subchannels by a UE can only be done once it knows which subchannels it has been allocated. The RRM in this system comprises beam selection, user selection and power allocation, three steps that are intricately coupled and we will show that the order in which they are performed does impact performance and so does the amount of coupling that we take into account. Specifically, we propose 4 online sequential solutions with different orders in which the steps are called and of different complexities, i.e., different levels of coupling between the steps. Feedback-based quantum algorithms have recently emerged as potential methods for approximating the ground states of Hamiltonians. One such algorithm, the feedback-based algorithm for quantum optimization (FALQON), is specifically designed to solve quadratic unconstrained binary optimization problems. Its extension, the feedback-based algorithm for quantum optimization with constraints (FALQON-C), was introduced to handle constrained optimization problems with equality and inequality constraints. In this work, we extend the feedback-based quantum algorithms framework to address a broader class of constraints known as invalid configuration (IC) constraints, which explicitly prohibit specific configurations of decision variables. We first present a transformation technique that converts the constrained optimization problem with invalid configuration constraints into an equivalent unconstrained problem by incorporating a penalizing term into the cost function. Then, leaning upon control theory, we propose an alternative method tailored for feedback-based quantum algorithms that directly tackles IC constraints without requiring slack variables. Our approach introduces a new operator that encodes the optimal feasible solution of the constrained optimization problem as its ground state. Then, a controlled quantum system based on the Lyapunov control technique is designed to ensure convergence to the ground state of this operator. Two approaches are introduced in the design of this operator to address IC constraints: the folded spectrum approach and the deflation approach. These methods eliminate the need for slack variables, significantly reducing the quantum circuit depth and the number of qubits required. We show the effectiveness of our proposed algorithms through numerical simulations.

In this paper, we propose an efficient implementation of deep policy gradient method (PGM) for optimal control problems in continuous time. The proposed method has the ability to manage the allocation of computational resources, number of trajectories, and complexity of architecture of the neural network. This is, in particular, important for continuous-time problems that require a fine time discretization. Each step of this method focuses on a different time scale and learns a policy, modeled by a neural network, for a discretized optimal control problem. The first step has the coarsest time discretization. As we proceed to other steps, the time discretization becomes finer. The optimal trained policy in each step is also used to provide data for the next step. We accompany the multi-scale deep PGM with a theoretical result on allocation of computational resources to obtain a targeted efficiency and test our methods on the linear-quadratic stochastic optimal control problem., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures

Van der Waals (vdW) magnets, with their two-dimensional (2D) atomic structures, provide a unique platform for exploring magnetism at the nanoscale. Although there have been numerous reports on their diverse quantum properties, the emergent interfacial magnetism--artificially created at the interface between two layered magnets--remains largely unexplored. This work presents observations of such emergent interfacial magnetism at the ferromagnet/antiferromagnet interface in a vdW heterostructure. We report the discovery of an intermediate Hall resistance plateau in the anomalous Hall loop, indicative of emergent interfacial antiferromagnetism fostered by the heterointerface. This plateau can be stabilized and further manipulated under varying pressures but collapses under high pressures over 10 GPa. Our theoretical calculations reveal that charge transfer at the interface is pivotal in establishing the interlayer antiferromagnetic spin-exchange interaction. This work illuminates the previously unexplored emergent interfacial magnetism at a vdW interface comprised of a ferromagnetic metal and an antiferromagnetic insulator, and highlights its gradual evolution under increasing pressure. In this paper, we introduce MASQRAD (Multi-Agent Strategic Query Resolution and Diagnostic tool), a transformative framework for query resolution based on the actor-critic model, which utilizes multiple generative AI agents. MASQRAD is excellent at translating imprecise or ambiguous user inquiries into precise and actionable requests. This framework generates pertinent visualizations and responses to these focused queries, as well as thorough analyses and insightful interpretations for users. MASQRAD addresses the common shortcomings of existing solutions in domains that demand fast and precise data interpretation, such as their incapacity to successfully apply AI for generating actionable insights and their challenges with the inherent ambiguity of user queries. MASQRAD functions as a sophisticated multi-agent system but "masquerades" to users as a single AI entity, which lowers errors and enhances data interaction. This approach makes use of three primary AI agents: Actor Generative AI, Critic Generative AI, and Expert Analysis Generative AI. Each is crucial for creating, enhancing, and evaluating data interactions. The Actor AI generates Python scripts to generate data visualizations from large datasets within operational constraints, and the Critic AI rigorously refines these scripts through multi-agent debate. Finally, the Expert Analysis AI contextualizes the outcomes to aid in decision-making. We present the first catalog of fast radio burst (FRB) host galaxies from CHIME/FRB Outriggers, selected uniformly in the radio and the optical by localizing 81 new bursts to 2'' x ~60'' accuracy using CHIME and the KKO Outrigger, located 66 km from CHIME. Of the 81 localized bursts, we use the Probabilistic Association of Transients to their Hosts (PATH) algorithm to securely identify 21 new FRB host galaxies, and compile spectroscopic redshifts for 19 systems, 15 of which are newly obtained via spectroscopic observations. The most nearby source is FRB 20231229A, at a distance of 90 Mpc. One burst in our sample is from a previously reported repeating source in a galaxy merger (FRB 20190303A). Three new FRB host galaxies (FRBs 20230203A, 20230703A, and 20231206A) are found towards X-ray and optically selected galaxy clusters, potentially doubling the sample of known galaxy cluster FRBs. A search for radio counterparts reveals that FRB 20231128A is associated with a luminous persistent radio source (PRS) candidate with high significance ($P_{cc} \sim 10^{-2}$). If its compactness is confirmed, it would be the nearest known compact PRS at $z = 0.1079$. Our catalog significantly increases the statistics of the Macquart relation at low redshifts ($z < 0.2$). In the near future, the completed CHIME/FRB Outriggers array will produce hundreds of FRBs localized with very long baseline interferometry (VLBI). We propose SGS-GNN, a novel supervised graph sparsifier that learns the sampling probability distribution of edges and samples sparse subgraphs of a user-specified size to reduce the computational costs required by GNNs for inference tasks on large graphs. SGS-GNN employs regularizers in the loss function to enhance homophily in sparse subgraphs, boosting the accuracy of GNNs on heterophilic graphs, where a significant number of the neighbors of a node have dissimilar labels. SGS-GNN also supports conditional updates of the probability distribution learning module based on a prior, which helps narrow the search space for sparse graphs. SGS-GNN requires fewer epochs to obtain high accuracies since it learns the search space of subgraphs more effectively than methods using fixed distributions such as random sampling. Extensive experiments using 33 homophilic and heterophilic graphs demonstrate the following: (i) with only 20% of edges retained in the sparse subgraphs, SGS-GNN improves the F1-scores by a geometric mean of 4% relative to the original graph; on heterophilic graphs, the prediction accuracy is better up to 30%. (ii) SGS-GNN outperforms state-of-the-art methods with improvement in F1-scores of 4-7% in geometric mean with similar sparsities in the sampled subgraphs, and (iii) compared to sparsifiers that employ fixed distributions, SGS-GNN requires about half the number of epochs to converge.

Brain tumors require an assessment to ensure timely diagnosis and effective patient treatment. Morphological factors such as size, location, texture, and variable appearance complicate tumor inspection. Medical imaging presents challenges, including noise and incomplete images. This research article presents a methodology for processing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data, encompassing techniques for image classification and denoising. The effective use of MRI images allows medical professionals to detect brain disorders, including tumors. This research aims to categorize healthy brain tissue and brain tumors by analyzing the provided MRI data. Unlike alternative methods like Computed Tomography (CT), MRI technology offers a more detailed representation of internal anatomical components, making it a suitable option for studying data related to brain tumors. The MRI picture is first subjected to a denoising technique utilizing an Anisotropic diffusion filter. The dataset utilized for the models creation is a publicly accessible and validated Brain Tumour Classification (MRI) database, comprising 3,264 brain MRI scans. SMOTE was employed for data augmentation and dataset balancing. Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN) such as ResNet152V2, VGG, ViT, and EfficientNet were employed for the classification procedure. EfficientNet attained an accuracy of 98%, the highest recorded.

The solid-state reaction was used to synthesize CoO2 nanostructured material. Cobalt nitrate tetrahydrate and sodium oxide (NaOH) were combined to produce CoO2 nanostructured material. The three synthesized working electrodes were each tested individually, using 3 M KOH as the electrolyte. The CV analysis of a three-electrode system revealed redox peaks, indicating Faradaic processes. The estimated specific capacitances of CoO2, CoO2 (250oC), CoO2 (300oC) nanostructured material at scan rates of (10) mVs-1 is (223, 348, and 473) Fg-1. The diffraction peaks at 2{\theta} = 26.264o, 33.527o, 37.579, 51.264 and 54.367o correspond respectively to the diffraction planes of 111, 112, 200, 211, and 311 of CoO2 nanostructured material. The annealing temperature, which affects the bandgap, can influence the size, shape, and crystallinity of nanostructures. Germanium quantum dots in strained $\text{Ge}/\text{Si}_{1-x}\text{Ge}_{x}$ heterostructures exhibit fast and coherent hole qubit control in experiments. In this work, we theoretically and numerically address the effects of random alloy disorder and gate-induced strain on the operation of planar Ge hole spin qubits. Electrical operation of hole quantum dot spin qubits is enabled by the strong Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) originating from the intrinsic SOC in the Ge valence band as well as from the structural inversion asymmetry inherent in the underlying 2D hole gas. We use the atomistic valence force field (VFF) method to compute the strain due to random alloy disorder, and thermal expansion models in COMSOL Multiphysics to obtain the strain from a realistic gate-stack of planar hole quantum dot confinement. Recently, spin-orbit coupling terms $\propto k$ have been shown to be induced by strain inhomogeneity. Our hybrid approach to realistic device modeling suggests that strain inhomogeneity due to both random alloy disorder and gate-induced strain make a strong contribution to the linear-$k$ Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling, which eventually dominates hole spin EDSR; and there exist specific in-plane orientations of the global magnetic field $\mathbf{B}$ and the microwave drive $\mathbf{\tilde{E}}_{\text{ac}}$ for maximum EDSR Rabi frequency of the hole spin qubit. The current model including strain inhomogeneity accurately predicts the EDSR Rabi frequency to be $\!\sim\!100$ MHz for typical electric and magnetic fields in experiments, which represents at least an order of magnitude improvement in accuracy over phenomenological models assuming uniform uniaxial strain. State-of-the-art atomistic tight binding calculations via nano-electronic modeling (NEMO3D) are in agreement with the $\mathbf{k}{\cdot}\mathbf{p}$ description.

Embedded Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (eFPGAs) allow for the design of hardware accelerators of edge Machine Learning (ML) applications at a lower power budget compared with traditional FPGA platforms. However, the limited eFPGA logic and memory significantly constrain compute capabilities and model size. As such, ML application deployment on eFPGAs is in direct contrast with the most recent FPGA approaches developing architecture-specific implementations and maximizing throughput over resource frugality. This paper focuses on the opposite side of this trade-off: the proposed eFPGA accelerator focuses on minimizing resource usage and allowing flexibility for on-field recalibration over throughput. This allows for runtime changes in model size, architecture, and input data dimensionality without offline resynthesis. This is made possible through the use of a bitwise compressed inference architecture of the Tsetlin Machine (TM) algorithm. TM compute does not require any multiplication operations, being limited to only bitwise AND, OR, NOT, summations and additions. Additionally, TM model compression allows the entire model to fit within the on-chip block RAM of the eFPGA. The paper uses this accelerator to propose a strategy for runtime model tuning in the field. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) captures spatial and spectral data, enabling analysis of features invisible to conventional systems. The technology is vital in fields such as weather monitoring, food quality control, counterfeit detection, healthcare diagnostics, and extending into defense, agriculture, and industrial automation at the same time. HSI has advanced with improvements in spectral resolution, miniaturization, and computational methods. This study provides an overview of the HSI, its applications, challenges in data fusion and the role of deep learning models in processing HSI data. We discuss how integration of multimodal HSI with AI, particularly with deep learning, improves classification accuracy and operational efficiency. Deep learning enhances HSI analysis in areas like feature extraction, change detection, denoising unmixing, dimensionality reduction, landcover mapping, data augmentation, spectral construction and super resolution. An emerging focus is the fusion of hyperspectral cameras with large language models (LLMs), referred as highbrain LLMs, enabling the development of advanced applications such as low visibility crash detection and face antispoofing. Point spread function (PSF) engineering has been pivotal in the remarkable progress made in high-resolution imaging in the last decades. However, the diversity in PSF structures attainable through existing engineering methods is limited. Here, we report universal PSF engineering, demonstrating a method to synthesize an arbitrary set of spatially varying 3D PSFs between the input and output volumes of a spatially incoherent diffractive processor composed of cascaded transmissive surfaces. We rigorously analyze the PSF engineering capabilities of such diffractive processors within the diffraction limit of light and provide numerical demonstrations of unique imaging capabilities, such as snapshot 3D multispectral imaging without involving any spectral filters, axial scanning or digital reconstruction steps, which is enabled by the spatial and spectral engineering of 3D PSFs. Millions of new pieces of malicious software (i.e., malware) are introduced each year. This poses significant challenges for antivirus vendors, who use machine learning to detect and analyze malware, and must keep up with changes in the distribution while retaining knowledge of older variants. Continual learning (CL) holds the potential to address this challenge by reducing the storage and computational costs of regularly retraining over all the collected data. Prior work, however, shows that CL techniques, which are designed primarily for computer vision tasks, fare poorly when applied to malware classification. To address these issues, we begin with an exploratory analysis of a typical malware dataset, which reveals that malware families are diverse and difficult to characterize, requiring a wide variety of samples to learn a robust representation. Based on these findings, we propose $\underline{M}$alware $\underline{A}$nalysis with $\underline{D}$iversity-$\underline{A}$ware $\underline{R}$eplay (MADAR), a CL framework that accounts for the unique properties and challenges of the malware data distribution. Through extensive evaluation on large-scale Windows and Android malware datasets, we show that MADAR significantly outperforms prior work. Multiferroic perovskites that exhibit room temperature magnetization and polarization have immense potential in the next generation of magneto-electric and spintronic memory devices. In this work, the magnetic and ferroelectric properties of Bismuth Ferrite, BiFeO3 (BFO) nanoparticles (NPs) were enhanced through simultaneous A and B site Ca and Cr co-substitution. Novel compositions of Bi0.97Ca0.03CrxFe1-xO3 (x=0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05) were synthesized using the sol-gel route and annealed at 550 degrees Celcius. Rietveld Refinement of XRD patterns confirmed high phase purity, while SEM analysis revealed a decreasing trend in average particle size with increasing dopant concentration. Hysteresis loops showed enhanced magnetic properties as particle size approached the spin cycloid wavelength (around 62 nm), disrupting the intrinsic antiferromagnetic ordering of BFO. Moreover, the presence of exchange bias in the NPs was linked to the formation of core-shell structure. Temperature dependent magnetization studies showed an increase in N\'eel temperature upon Ca substitution. XPS analysis confirmed that Bi0.97Ca0.03FeO3 samples exhibited the highest oxygen vacancy concentration, while Fe3+ remained the dominant oxidation state across all compositions. In the growing terrain of the Internet of Things (IoT), it is vital that networks are secure to protect against a range of cyber threats. Based on the strong machine learning framework, this study proposes novel lightweight ensemble approaches for improving multi-class attack detection of IoT devices. Using the large CICIoT 2023 dataset with 34 attack types distributed amongst 10 attack categories, we systematically evaluated the performance of a wide variety of modern machine learning methods with the aim of establishing the best-performing algorithmic choice to secure IoT applications. In particular, we explore approaches based on ML classifiers to tackle the biocharges characterized by the challenging and heterogeneous nature of attack vectors in IoT environments. The method that performed best was the Decision Tree, with an accuracy of 99.56% and an F1 score of 99.62%, showing that this model is capable of accurately and reliably detecting threats.The Random Forest model was the next best-performing model with 98.22% and an F1 score of 98.24%, suggesting that ML methods are quite effective in a situation of high-dimensional data. Our results highlight the potential for using ML classifiers in bolstering security for IoT devices and also serve as motivations for future investigations targeting scalable, keystroke-based attack detection systems. We believe that our method provides a new path to develop complex machine learning algorithms for low-resource IoT devices, balancing both accuracy and time efficiency needs. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are characterized by wired or wireless communication among different entities, such as vehicles, roadside infrastructure, and traffic management infrastructure. These communications demand different levels of security, depending on how sensitive the data is. The national ITS reference architecture (ARC-IT) defines three security levels, i.e., high, moderate, and low-security levels, based on the different security requirements of ITS applications. In this study, we present a generalized approach to secure ITS communications using a standardized key encapsulation mechanism, known as Kyber, designed for post-quantum cryptography (PQC). We modified the encryption and decryption systems for ITS communications while mapping the security levels of ITS applications to the three versions of Kyber, i.e., Kyber-512, Kyber-768, and Kyber-1024. Then, we conducted a case study using a benchmark fault-enabled chosen-ciphertext attack to evaluate the security provided by the different Kyber versions. The encryption and decryption times observed for different Kyber security levels and the total number of iterations required to recover the secret key using the chosen-ciphertext attack are presented. Our analyses show that higher security levels increase the time required for a successful attack, with Kyber-512 being breached in 183 seconds, Kyber-768 in 337 seconds, and Kyber-1024 in 615 seconds. In addition, attack time instabilities are observed for Kyber-512, 768, and 1024 under 5,000, 6,000, and 8,000 inequalities, respectively. The relationships among the different Kyber versions, and the respective attack requirements and performances underscore the ITS communication security Kyber could provide in the PQC era.

Layer-wise preconditioning methods are a family of memory-efficient optimization algorithms that introduce preconditioners per axis of each layer's weight tensors. These methods have seen a recent resurgence, demonstrating impressive performance relative to entry-wise ("diagonal") preconditioning methods such as Adam(W) on a wide range of neural network optimization tasks. Complementary to their practical performance, we demonstrate that layer-wise preconditioning methods are provably necessary from a statistical perspective. To showcase this, we consider two prototypical models, linear representation learning and single-index learning, which are widely used to study how typical algorithms efficiently learn useful features to enable generalization. In these problems, we show SGD is a suboptimal feature learner when extending beyond ideal isotropic inputs $\mathbf{x} \sim \mathsf{N}(\mathbf{0}, \mathbf{I})$ and well-conditioned settings typically assumed in prior work. We demonstrate theoretically and numerically that this suboptimality is fundamental, and that layer-wise preconditioning emerges naturally as the solution. We further show that standard tools like Adam preconditioning and batch-norm only mildly mitigate these issues, supporting the unique benefits of layer-wise preconditioning.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks make the challenges to provide the services of the data resources to the web clients. In this paper, we concern to study and apply different Machine Learning (ML) techniques to separate the DDoS attack instances from benign instances. Our experimental results show that forward and backward data bytes of our dataset are observed more similar for DDoS attacks compared to the data bytes for benign attempts. This paper uses different machine learning techniques for the detection of the attacks efficiently in order to make sure the offered services from web servers available. This results from the proposed approach suggest that 97.1% of DDoS attacks are successfully detected by the Support Vector Machine (SVM). These accuracies are better while comparing to the several existing machine learning approaches.

Significant losses in terms of life and property occur from road traffic accidents, which are often caused by drunk and drowsy drivers. Reducing accidents requires effective detection of alcohol impairment and drowsiness as well as real-time driver monitoring. This paper aims to create an Internet of Things (IoT)--enabled Drowsiness Driver Safety Alert System with Real-Time Monitoring Using Integrated Sensors Technology. The system features an alcohol sensor and an IR sensor for detecting alcohol presence and monitoring driver eye movements, respectively. Upon detecting alcohol, alarms and warning lights are activated, the vehicle speed is progressively reduced, and the motor stops within ten to fifteen seconds if the alcohol presence persists. The IR sensor monitors prolonged eye closure, triggering alerts, or automatic vehicle stoppage to prevent accidents caused by drowsiness. Data from the IR sensor is transmitted to a mobile phone via Bluetooth for real-time monitoring and alerts. By identifying driver alcoholism and drowsiness, this system seeks to reduce accidents and save lives by providing safer transportation.

We present a theory for the relaxation time of the octupole order parameter in nanoscale chiral antiferromagnets (AFMs) coupled to thermal baths and spin injection sources. Using stochastic spin dynamics simulations, we demonstrate that the octupole moment relaxes through two distinct mechanisms$-$escape over a barrier and precessional dephasing$-$as the barrier for octupole fluctuations is lowered relative to the thermal energy. Notably, the octupole moment relaxes orders of magnitude faster than the typical dipolar order parameters, reaching picosecond timescales. By combining Langer's theory with an effective low-energy description of octupole dynamics in chiral AFMs, we derive analytical expressions for the relaxation times. We find that relaxation in chiral AFMs parallels dipole relaxation in XY magnets, with exchange fields serving the role of the dipole fields. Further, by drawing on the analogy between order parameter dynamics in XY magnets under spin injection and current-biased Josephson junctions, we propose a new scheme for electrically tuning the octupole relaxation times. Our work offers fundamental insights for the development of next-generation spintronic devices that harness octupole order parameters for information encoding, especially in octupole-based probabilistic computing.

Patient length of stay (LoS) is a critical metric for evaluating the efficacy of hospital management. The primary objectives encompass to improve efficiency and reduce costs while enhancing patient outcomes and hospital capacity within the patient journey. By seamlessly merging data-driven techniques with simulation methodologies, the study proposes an all-encompassing framework for the optimization of patient flow. Using a comprehensive dataset of 2.3 million de-identified patient records, we analyzed demographics, diagnoses, treatments, services, costs, and charges with machine learning models (Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, Adaboost, LightGBM) and Python tools (Spark, AWS clusters, dimensionality reduction). Our model predicts patient length of stay (LoS) upon admission using supervised learning algorithms. This hybrid approach enables the identification of key factors influencing LoS, offering a robust framework for hospitals to streamline patient flow and resource utilization. The research focuses on patient flow, corroborating the efficacy of the approach, illustrating decreased patient length of stay within a real healthcare environment. A discrete time crystal (DTC) is the paradigmatic example of a phase of matter that occurs exclusively in systems out of equilibrium. This phenomenon is characterized by the spontaneous symmetry breaking of discrete time-translation and provides a rich playground to study a fundamental question in statistical physics: what mechanism allows for driven quantum systems to exhibit emergent behavior that deviates from their counterparts with time-independent evolution? Unlike equilibrium phases, DTCs exhibit macroscopic manifestations of coherent quantum dynamics, challenging the conventional narrative that thermodynamic behavior universally erases quantum signatures. However, due to the difficulty of simulating these systems with either classical or quantum computers, previous studies have been limited to a set of models with Ising-like couplings -- and mostly only in one dimension -- thus precluding our understanding of the existence (or not) of DTCs in models with interactions that closely align with what occurs in nature. In this work, by combining the latest generation of IBM quantum processors with state-of-the-art tensor network methods, we are able to demonstrate the existence of a DTC in a two-dimensional system governed by anisotropic Heisenberg interactions. Our comprehensive analysis reveals a rich phase diagram encompassing spin-glass, ergodic, and time-crystalline phases, highlighting the tunability of these phases through multiple control parameters. Crucially, our results emphasize the interplay of initialization, interaction anisotropy, and driving protocols in stabilizing the DTC phase. By extending the study of Floquet matter beyond simplified models, we lay the groundwork for exploring how driven systems bridge the gap between quantum coherence and emergent non-equilibrium thermodynamics.

Self-supervised learning can resolve numerous image or linguistic processing problems when effectively trained. This study investigated simple yet efficient methods for adapting previously learned foundation models for open-vocabulary semantic segmentation tasks. Our research proposed "Beyond-Labels," a lightweight transformer-based fusion module that uses a handful of image segmentation data to fuse frozen image representations with language concepts. This strategy allows the model to successfully actualize enormous knowledge from pretrained models without requiring extensive retraining, making the model data-efficient and scalable. Furthermore, we efficiently captured positional information in images using Fourier embeddings, thus improving the generalization across various image sizes, addressing one of the key limitations of previous methods. Extensive ablation tests were performed to investigate the important components of our proposed method; when tested against the common benchmark PASCAL-5i, it demonstrated superior performance despite being trained on frozen image and language characteristics.

This report presents our approach for the IEEE SP Cup 2025: Deepfake Face Detection in the Wild (DFWild-Cup), focusing on detecting deepfakes across diverse datasets. Our methodology employs advanced backbone models, including MaxViT, CoAtNet, and EVA-02, fine-tuned using supervised contrastive loss to enhance feature separation. These models were specifically chosen for their complementary strengths. Integration of convolution layers and strided attention in MaxViT is well-suited for detecting local features. In contrast, hybrid use of convolution and attention mechanisms in CoAtNet effectively captures multi-scale features. Robust pretraining with masked image modeling of EVA-02 excels at capturing global features. After training, we freeze the parameters of these models and train the classification heads. Finally, a majority voting ensemble is employed to combine the predictions from these models, improving robustness and generalization to unseen scenarios. This study analyzes and predicts air pollution in Asia, focusing on PM 2.5 levels from 2018 to 2023 across five regions: Central, East, South, Southeast, and West Asia. South Asia emerged as the most polluted region, with Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan consistently having the highest PM 2.5 levels and death rates, especially in Nepal, Pakistan, and India. East Asia showed the lowest pollution levels. K-means clustering categorized countries into high, moderate, and low pollution groups. The ARIMA model effectively predicted 2023 PM 2.5 levels (MAE: 3.99, MSE: 33.80, RMSE: 5.81, R: 0.86). The findings emphasize the need for targeted interventions to address severe pollution and health risks in South Asia.

The design of wireless communication receivers to enhance signal processing in complex and dynamic environments is going through a transformation by leveraging deep neural networks (DNNs). Traditional wireless receivers depend on mathematical models and algorithms, which do not have the ability to adapt or learn from data. In contrast, deep learning-based receivers are more suitable for modern wireless communication systems because they can learn from data and adapt accordingly. Rare earth chalcogenides provide a great platform to study exotic quantum phenomena such as superconductivity and charge density waves. Among various interesting properties, the coupling between magnetism and electronic transport has attracted significant attention. Here, we report the investigation of such coupling in {alpha}-Gd2Se3 single crystals through magnetic, calorimetric, and transport property measurements. {alpha}-Gd2Se3 is found to display an antiferromagnetic ground state below 11 K with metamagnetic spin-flop transitions. The magnetic fluctuations remain strong above the transition temperature. A mutation in the DNA of a single cell that compromises its function initiates leukemia,leading to the overproduction of immature white blood cells that encroach upon the space required for the generation of healthy blood cells.Leukemia is treatable if identified in its initial stages. This study proposes a novel approach for diagnosing leukemia across four stages Benign,Early,Pre,and Pro using deep learning techniques.We employed two Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models as MobileNetV2 with an altered head and a custom model. The custom model consists of multiple convolutional layers,each paired with corresponding max pooling layers.We utilized MobileNetV2 with ImageNet weights,adjusting the head to integrate the final results.The dataset used is the publicly available "Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) Image Dataset", and we applied the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) to augment and balance the training dataset.The custom model achieved an accuracy of 98.6%, while MobileNetV2 attained a superior accuracy of 99.69%. Ultrasonic testing is a common Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) method used in aerospace manufacturing. However, the complexity and size of the ultrasonic scans make it challenging to identify defects through visual inspection or machine learning models. Using computer vision techniques to identify defects from ultrasonic scans is an evolving research area. In this study, we used instance segmentation to identify the presence of defects in the ultrasonic scan images of composite panels that are representative of real components manufactured in aerospace. We used two models based on Mask-RCNN (Detectron 2) and YOLO 11 respectively. Additionally, we implemented a simple statistical pre-processing technique that reduces the burden of requiring custom-tailored pre-processing techniques. Skin diseases can arise from infections, allergies, genetic factors, autoimmune disorders, hormonal imbalances, or environmental triggers such as sun damage and pollution. Some skin diseases, such as Actinic Keratosis and Psoriasis, can be fatal if not treated in time. Early identification is crucial, but the diagnostic methods for these conditions are often expensive and not widely accessible. In this study, we propose a novel and efficient method for diagnosing skin diseases using deep learning techniques. This approach employs a modified VGG16 Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. The model includes several convolutional layers and utilizes ImageNet weights with modified top layers. The top layer is updated with fully connected layers and a final softmax activation layer to classify skin diseases. The dataset used, titled "Skin Disease Dataset," is publicly available. While the VGG16 architecture does not include data augmentation by default, preprocessing techniques such as rotation, shifting, and zooming were applied to augment the data prior to model training. The proposed methodology achieved 90.67% accuracy using the modified VGG16 model, demonstrating its reliability in classifying skin diseases. The promising results highlight the potential of this approach for real-world applications.

The Wi-Fi technology (IEEE 802.11) was introduced in 1997. With the increasing use and deployment of such networks, their security has also attracted considerable attention. Current Wi-Fi networks use WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) for security (authentication and encryption) between access points and clients. According to the IEEE 802.11i-2004 standard, wireless networks secured with WPA2-PSK (Pre-Shared Key) are required to be protected with a passphrase between 8 to 63 ASCII characters. However, a poorly chosen passphrase significantly reduces the effectiveness of both WPA2 and WPA3-Personal Transition Mode. The objective of this paper is to empirically evaluate password choices in the wild and evaluate weakness in current common practices. We collected a total of 3,352 password hashes from Wi-Fi access points and determine the passphrases that were protecting them. We then analyze these passwords to investigate the impact of user's behavior and preference for convenience on passphrase strength in secured private Wi-Fi networks in Singapore. We characterized the predictability of passphrases that use the minimum required length of 8 numeric or alphanumeric characters, and/or symbols stipulated in wireless security standards, and the usage of default passwords, and found that 16 percent of the passwords show such behavior. Our results also indicate the prevalence of the use of default passwords by hardware manufacturers. We correlate our results with our findings and recommend methods that will improve the overall security and future of our Wi-Fi networks.

Industrial X-ray cone-beam CT (XCT) scanners are widely used for scientific imaging and non-destructive characterization. Industrial CBCT scanners use large detectors containing millions of pixels and the subsequent 3D reconstructions can be of the order of billions of voxels. In order to obtain high-quality reconstruction when using typical analytic algorithms, the scan involves collecting a large number of projections/views which results in large measurement times - limiting the utility of the technique. Model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) algorithms can produce high-quality reconstructions from fast sparse-view CT scans, but are computationally expensive and hence are avoided in practice. Single-step deep-learning (DL) based methods have demonstrated that it is possible to obtain fast and high-quality reconstructions from sparse-view data but they do not generalize well to out-of-distribution scenarios. In this work, we propose a half-quadratic splitting-based algorithm that uses convolutional neural networks (CNN) in order to obtain high-quality reconstructions from large sparse-view cone-beam CT (CBCT) measurements while overcoming the challenges with typical approaches. The algorithm alternates between the application of a CNN and a conjugate gradient (CG) step enforcing data-consistency (DC). The proposed method outperforms other methods on the publicly available Walnuts data-set.

Breast cancer is one of the deadliest cancers causing about massive number of patients to die annually all over the world according to the WHO. It is a kind of cancer that develops when the tissues of the breast grow rapidly and unboundly. This fatality rate can be prevented if the cancer is detected before it gets malignant. Using automation for early-age detection of breast cancer, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies can be implemented for the best outcome. In this study, we are using the Breast Cancer Image Classification dataset collected from the Kaggle depository, which comprises 9248 Breast Ultrasound Images and is classified into three categories: Benign, Malignant, and Normal which refers to non-cancerous, cancerous, and normal images.This research introduces three pretrained model featuring custom classifiers that includes ResNet50, MobileNet, and VGG16, along with a custom CNN model utilizing the ReLU activation function.The models ResNet50, MobileNet, VGG16, and a custom CNN recorded accuracies of 98.41%, 97.91%, 98.19%, and 92.94% on the dataset, correspondingly, with ResNet50 achieving the highest accuracy of 98.41%.This model, with its deep and powerful architecture, is particularly successful in detecting aberrant cells as well as cancerous or non-cancerous tumors. These accuracies show that the Machine Learning methods are more compatible for the classification and early detection of breast cancer.

Cone-beam X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) with large detectors and corresponding large-scale 3D reconstruction plays a pivotal role in micron-scale characterization of materials and parts across various industries. In this work, we present a novel deep neural network-based iterative algorithm that integrates an artifact reduction-trained CNN as a prior model with automated regularization parameter selection, tailored for large-scale industrial cone-beam XCT data. Our method achieves high-quality 3D reconstructions even for extremely dense thick metal parts - which traditionally pose challenges to industrial CT images - in just a few iterations. Furthermore, we show the generalizability of our approach to out-of-distribution scans obtained under diverse scanning conditions. Our method effectively handles significant noise and streak artifacts, surpassing state-of-the-art supervised learning methods trained on the same data.

Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have found numerous applications in various domains, including fraud detection, medical diagnosis, facial recognition, and autonomous driving. However, DNN-based systems often suffer from reliability issues due to their inherent complexity and the stochastic nature of their underlying models. Unfortunately, existing techniques to detect faults in DNN programs are either limited by the types of faults (e.g., hyperparameter or layer) they support or the kind of information (e.g., dynamic or static) they use. As a result, they might fall short of comprehensively detecting and diagnosing the faults. In this paper, we present DEFault (Detect and Explain Fault) -- a novel technique to detect and diagnose faults in DNN programs. It first captures dynamic (i.e., runtime) features during model training and leverages a hierarchical classification approach to detect all major fault categories from the literature. Then, it captures static features (e.g., layer types) from DNN programs and leverages explainable AI methods (e.g., SHAP) to narrow down the root cause of the fault. We train and evaluate DEFault on a large, diverse dataset of ~14.5K DNN programs and further validate our technique using a benchmark dataset of 52 real-life faulty DNN programs. Our approach achieves ~94% recall in detecting real-world faulty DNN programs and ~63% recall in diagnosing the root causes of the faults, demonstrating 3.92% - 11.54% higher performance than that of state-of-the-art techniques. Thus, DEFault has the potential to significantly improve the reliability of DNN programs by effectively detecting and diagnosing the faults.

In this article, we investigate the properties of neutron stars within the braneworld model, employing six distinct piece-wise polytropic equation of states. These equation of states satisfy observational constraints put by GW170817 event and pulsar observations (PSR J0740 and PSR J0030) within general relativity framework. Our primary goal is to assess whether these equation of states, in conjunction with the braneworld framework, can accommodate more massive neutron stars, as suggested by the GW190814 observation, while remaining consistent with established observational constraints. The brane tension parameter significantly affects the mass-radius and mass-tidal deformability relations, particularly for neutron stars with masses exceeding the canonical value. We establish strong constraints on the brane tension by comparing the canonical neutron star radius and tidal deformability with the results from the braneworld model, a stringent lower bound on the brane tension, $\lambda > 2 \times 10^ {37} \, \text {dyne/cm} ^2 $. Our results demonstrate that the braneworld model allows for the existence of neutron stars with masses greater than those predicted by General Relativity, in agreement with the GW190814 observation, and highlight the significant role of brane tension in shaping the properties of neutron stars.

The flexibility and complexity of IPv6 extension headers allow attackers to create covert channels or bypass security mechanisms, leading to potential data breaches or system compromises. The mature development of machine learning has become the primary detection technology option used to mitigate covert communication threats. However, the complexity of detecting covert communication, evolving injection techniques, and scarcity of data make building machine-learning models challenging. In previous related research, machine learning has shown good performance in detecting covert communications, but oversimplified attack scenario assumptions cannot represent the complexity of modern covert technologies and make it easier for machine learning models to detect covert communications. To bridge this gap, in this study, we analyzed the packet structure and network traffic behavior of IPv6, used encryption algorithms, and performed covert communication injection without changing network packet behavior to get closer to real attack scenarios. In addition to analyzing and injecting methods for covert communications, this study also uses comprehensive machine learning techniques to train the model proposed in this study to detect threats, including traditional decision trees such as random forests and gradient boosting, as well as complex neural network architectures such as CNNs and LSTMs, to achieve detection accuracy of over 90\%. This study details the methods used for dataset augmentation and the comparative performance of the applied models, reinforcing insights into the adaptability and resilience of the machine learning application in IPv6 covert communication. In addition, we also proposed a Generative AI-assisted interpretation concept based on prompt engineering as a preliminary study of the role of Generative AI agents in covert communication.

Software bugs pose a significant challenge during development and maintenance, and practitioners spend nearly 50% of their time dealing with bugs. Many existing techniques adopt Information Retrieval (IR) to localize a reported bug using textual and semantic relevance between bug reports and source code. However, they often struggle to bridge a critical gap between bug reports and code that requires in-depth contextual understanding, which goes beyond textual or semantic relevance. In this paper, we present a novel technique for bug localization - BRaIn - that addresses the contextual gaps by assessing the relevance between bug reports and code with Large Language Models (LLM). It then leverages the LLM's feedback (a.k.a., Intelligent Relevance Feedback) to reformulate queries and re-rank source documents, improving bug localization. We evaluate BRaIn using a benchmark dataset, Bench4BL, and three performance metrics and compare it against six baseline techniques from the literature. Our experimental results show that BRaIn outperforms baselines by 87.6%, 89.5%, and 48.8% margins in MAP, MRR, and HIT@K, respectively. Additionally, it can localize approximately 52% of bugs that cannot be localized by the baseline techniques due to the poor quality of corresponding bug reports. The number of people living in this agricultural nation of ours, which is surrounded by lush greenery, is growing on a daily basis. As a result of this, the level of arable land is decreasing, as well as residential houses and industrial factories. The food crisis is becoming the main threat for us in the upcoming days. Because on the one hand, the population is increasing, and on the other hand, the amount of food crop production is decreasing due to the attack of diseases. Rice is one of the most significant cultivated crops since it provides food for more than half of the world's population. Bangladesh is dependent on rice (Oryza sativa) as a vital crop for its agriculture, but it faces a significant problem as a result of the ongoing decline in rice yield brought on by common diseases. Early disease detection is the main difficulty in rice crop cultivation. In this paper, we proposed our own dataset, which was collected from the Bangladesh field, and also applied deep learning and transfer learning models for the evaluation of the datasets. We elaborately explain our dataset and also give direction for further research work to serve society using this dataset. We applied a light CNN model and pre-trained InceptionNet-V2, EfficientNet-V2, and MobileNet-V2 models, which achieved 91.5% performance for the EfficientNet-V2 model of this work. The results obtained assaulted other models and even exceeded approaches that are considered to be part of the state of the art. It has been demonstrated by this study that it is possible to precisely and effectively identify diseases that affect rice leaves using this unbiased datasets. After analysis of the performance of different models, the proposed datasets are significant for the society for research work to provide solutions for decreasing rice leaf disease.

This study explores the representation of youth in US policy documents by analyzing how research on youth topics is cited within these policies. The research focuses on three key questions: identifying the frequently discussed topics in youth research that receive citations in policy documents, discerning patterns in youth research that contribute to higher citation rates in policy, and comparing the alignment between topics in youth research and those in citing policy documents. This paper presents an innovative method for automatically detecting dust accumulation on a PV system and notifying the user to clean it instantly. The accumulation of dust, bird, or insect droppings on the surface of photovoltaic (PV) panels creates a barrier between the solar energy and the panel's surface to receive sufficient energy to generate electricity. The study investigates the effects of dust on PV panel output and visible sunlight (VSL) block amounts to utilize the necessity of cleaning and detection. The amount of blocked visible sunlight while passing through glass due to dust determines the accumulated dust level. Visible sunlight can easily pass through the clean, transparent glass but reflects when something like dust obstructs it. Based on those concepts, a system is designed with a light sensor that is simple, effective, easy to install, hassle-free, and can spread the technology. The study also explores the effectiveness of the detection system developed by using image processing and machine learning algorithms to identify dust levels and bird or insect droppings accurately. The experimental setup in Gazipur, Bangladesh, found that excessive dust can block up to 55% of visible sunlight, wasting 55% of solar energy in the visible spectrum, and cleaning can recover 3% of power weekly. The data from the dust detection system is correlated with the 400W capacity solar panels' naturally lost efficiency data to validate the system. This research measured visible sunlight obstruction and loss due to dust. However, the addition of an infrared radiation sensor can draw the entire scenario of energy loss by doing more research.

Recent advancements in Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have opened new possibilities in automatic grading of handwritten student responses, particularly in mathematics. However, a comprehensive study to test the ability of VLMs to evaluate and reason over handwritten content remains absent. To address this gap, we introduce FERMAT, a benchmark designed to assess the ability of VLMs to detect, localize and correct errors in handwritten mathematical content. FERMAT spans four key error dimensions - computational, conceptual, notational, and presentation - and comprises over 2,200 handwritten math solutions derived from 609 manually curated problems from grades 7-12 with intentionally introduced perturbations. Using FERMAT we benchmark nine VLMs across three tasks: error detection, localization, and correction. Our results reveal significant shortcomings in current VLMs in reasoning over handwritten text, with Gemini-1.5-Pro achieving the highest error correction rate (77%). We also observed that some models struggle with processing handwritten content, as their accuracy improves when handwritten inputs are replaced with printed text or images. These findings highlight the limitations of current VLMs and reveal new avenues for improvement. We release FERMAT and all the associated resources in the open-source to drive further research.

This paper presents a novel approach to represent enterprise web application structures using Large Language Models (LLMs) to enable intelligent quality engineering at scale. We introduce a hierarchical representation methodology that optimizes the few-shot learning capabilities of LLMs while preserving the complex relationships and interactions within web applications. The approach encompasses five key phases: comprehensive DOM analysis, multi-page synthesis, test suite generation, execution, and result analysis. Our methodology addresses existing challenges around usage of Generative AI techniques in automated software testing by developing a structured format that enables LLMs to understand web application architecture through in-context learning. We evaluated our approach using two distinct web applications: an e-commerce platform (Swag Labs) and a healthcare application (MediBox) which is deployed within Atalgo engineering environment. The results demonstrate success rates of 90\% and 70\%, respectively, in achieving automated testing, with high relevance scores for test cases across multiple evaluation criteria. The findings suggest that our representation approach significantly enhances LLMs' ability to generate contextually relevant test cases and provide better quality assurance overall, while reducing the time and effort required for testing., Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure and 4 tables, relevant for Gen AI and enterprise AI use cases
