Background & aims: Mother’s milk plays an important role in infant’s health. The aim of this study was to determine the breastfeeding status and some of its related factors among children less than 5 year old, in northern countryside of Iran. Material & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional and retrospective study was done on 2520 children aged 6-60 months (1309=males and 1211=females) chosen by cluster and random sampling from 20 of 118 villages of Golestan provience. Data was collected by questionnaire and anthropometric measurements were performed. Duration of breastfeeding was computed only for over 24 months old children. Data was analyzed using SPSS-PC (v.16). Results: The mean duration of exclusive breast-feeding was 5.59 months and 66.4% of children had exclusive breast-feeding at least for 6 months. Although exclusive breast-feeding period in Turkmen ethnic group was lower than others, breastfeeding duration in this group was higher than other ethnic groups. Five months of exclusive Breast-feeding in Fars (native) group was 14.6% more than Turkman ethnic group (P=0.001). Exclusive breast-feeding period significantly increased with maternal education level(P=0.004).The mean time of breastfeeding was 20.6 months and 89.3% and 74.7% of children breastfed at least 18 and 24 months, respectively. 1- INTRODUCTION Traditionally, oil has been mentioned as a commodity that has a distant relationship with development. Consedring the oil producing countries, especially the countries that converge with the Middle East region in terms of geographical, political and bio-economic conditions, shows that the relationship between oil on the one hand and the capabilities of the government on the other hand, there are in this area. It seems that a common denominator is that the government has been powerful in terms of control but weak in terms of political, economic and cultural capabilities. Regarding the reasons for underdevelopment in countries that have abundant resources, many perspectives and levels of analysis have been discussed; economic, political, social and even cultural reasons. Therefore, the view from the angle of political economy can be explanatory to a great extent. However, in some countries, oil is not only considered the main variable of underdevelopment, but also has become a part of the development process. Norway is one of the countries where oil has not been the only cause of backwardness, but in a systematic process, it has acted as an important part of the realities of the system based on public welfare and social services. The question that arises here is what caused Norway not to be captured by the mystery of "resource curse" and "Dutch disease"? In response to this question, the hypothesis of the research is that the institutional capabilities in Norway have led to the formation of a powerful government along with other institutional resources and these economic and political institutions are capable both in oil production and the allocation of oil revenues in the national budget and in the system. Their distribution shows a developed performance. 2- THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK The important issue is the effects of the type of political systems and political institutions similar to the government on the levels and quality of the economy. In addition, according to Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson, subsequently, the effects of political institutions or political alignments on economic relations cannot be hidden (Acemoglu & Robinson, 2012). Therefore, economics as the science of understanding the optimal and productive human behavior is affected by politics and political processes, and politics as "authoritative allocation of values for a society" (Easton, 1957: 383-400), or "struggle over authority" (Lindblom, 1997) is affected by economic institutions. Therefore, the institution's role in both economy and politics is considered a central role. Institutions are defined from different perspectives and levels. Of course, the definition of institutions also suffers from the same plague that other concepts in human sciences suffer from; It means lack of consensus in the definition. 2. 1. Institutions Among political economy thinkers, there is less consensus definition of institution, even among institutionalists, there is no single definition of institution, each thinker has chosen an independent definition of this concept based on his research flow or intellectual project. Some of them have defined institution as follows: a set of behavioral rules created by humans in order to manage and shape human interactions, which helps them to some extent, expectations from have the actions of others (North, 1990). One of the most utilitarian definitions of institution was provided by Hamilton, an institutional economist (Hamilton, 1932: 84). He considered the institution as "an intellectual or practical path regarding the prevalence and permanence of a certain group that is engraved in the group habits or customs of a people". This definition explains Veblen's previous definition of institution as "fixed habits of thought common to all human beings" (Veblen, 1919: 239). Or with the same interpretation of North, they are considered "the rules of the game in society or the limits invented by humans that shape human interaction" (North 1990: 3). 2. 2. Development in the Attitude of Institutionalism Some believe that institutionalism lacks a systematic core theory (Hodgson, 1998: 174) and therefore, institutionalism has a gradual view of categories similar to development, which means its lack of theoretical coherence. The lack of institutional resources causes the rule of law not to exist, or the rule of law suffers a systematic weakness. This is the reason why strong economic and political institutions lead to the formation of a strong and powerful government. Some researchers even argue that institutions can differentiate the quality of use of governance and even the quality of statecraft. Ideas similar to that oil causes the formation of rentierism. The rentier economy is a sick economy. Oil makes governments addicted to rents and they are the result of an understanding of the relationship between resources and development, which confirms that countries with rich resources are facing setbacks in terms of development. This idea follows that "institutions are weaker in countries with rich resources" (Van Der Ploeg, 2010). The starting point of this idea is, on the one hand, the theoretical formulations related to rentierism, and on the other hand, the empirical evidence regarding the underdevelopment of resource-rich states. Rich resources cause an increase in resources and capital accumulation by the government and ruling elites, an increase in resources causes political rulers to become economic investors, windfall resources make the government independent from all political and economic institutions, and the background It creates a big and fat government that intervenes in the public and private spheres. A big state not only does not provide the basis for the formation of economic and political institutions, but also becomes a political super-institution. The super-institution of the government takes the place of the government as an institution of institutions and an institution alongside other institutions. By taking over the system of extraction, production, distribution and redistribution, the government's super- institution has ordered the economy and this issue causes the creation of an institutional vicious circle. 3- METHODOLOGY The current research is applied-developmental in terms of its purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of the researcher's approach. Documentary method was used to collect data and "grounded theory" method (institutionalist theory) was used to analyze them, which was introduced in the theoretical foundations section. 4- RESULTS & DISCUSSION 4. 1. Democracy Authoritarianism means anything other than empowering the government. Authoritarianism means making rulers and political institutions unaccountable. They use the main sources of rent and the result of this use of rent sources is the monopoly of power in the hands of the governing body and the closure of economic and political processes. Ranked first in the Economist Intelligence Unit's 2021 World Democracy Index, Norway has a very strong democracy. This country respects the civil liberties of its citizens and the government is held accountable by civil society actors and independent media. 4. 2. Tax Based on development indicators, it seems that there is a relationship between development and a strong tax system (Besley & Persson, 2013: 110-51). Not relying on oil for distribution resources, and relying on a strong tax system, has led to the formation of a strong democracy in Norway. 4. 3. Social Welfare Social Progress Index (SPI) measures the level of social and environmental needs of citizens in countries. Fifty-four indicators in the field of basic human needs show the foundations of prosperity, the opportunity for progress and the relative performance of countries. This list is published by the nonprofit organization Social Progress Imperative and is based on writings by Amartya Sen, Douglass North, and Joseph Stiglitz (Economist Intelligence, 2013). The situation in Norway is at a tipping point. Norway, having a social-democratic government, has created a situation that has been placed in the first place in the social progress index in terms of social security measures. 4. 4. Economic Freedom The economic freedom index is an annual index and ranking that was created in 1995 by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal to measure the level of economic freedom in the countries of the world. The creators of this index claim to have adopted an approach inspired by Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations that "fundamental institutions that protect the freedoms of individuals to pursue their economic interests lead to greater prosperity for the larger society." They become" (Heritage, 2023a). The welfare states of the Nordic region are known as the states that follow the social-democratic-free market hybrid economy approach (Rahmati, 2020: 235-195). In fact, from an economic point of view, they are considered to be among the protectionist countries or the welfare state (the government that provides social and welfare services to the social classes). Norway rank is 10th among 45 countries in the European region. Norway's economy has registered an overall 2.9 points of economic freedom since 2017, with increased points for the rule of law. However, Norway's economy is still under pressure from excessive government spending (Heritage, 2023b). 5- CONCLUSIONS & SUGGESTIONS The existence of economic-political institutions is an important factor affecting the formation of democracy and its determining indicators. The formation of democratic political discourse in contrast to authoritarianism can cause greater accountability and transparency in the political system and the empowerment of strong social and political forces in the political environment. In this article, focusing on the subject of economic and political institutions, an attempt was made to examine economics and politics through the lens of institutional discourse. An attempt was made to examine the case study of Norway based on indicators obtained from institutional studies, hence indicators similar to democracy/authoritarianism, social welfare index (SPI), economic freedom index (EF), the tax index and the perception index of corruption were taken into consideration and analyzed accordingly in a comparative approach. Considering the effect of oil on the quality of the formation of institutions in Norway, it seems that the idea of resource curse and Dutch disease, which is one of the main factors of the underdevelopment of countries with abundant resources, has not happened in Norway. In Norway, oil is not only considered a factor of underdevelopment, but due to the formation of established economic institutions, it is also considered as a basis for looking to the future. Norway is an exception to the resource curse. This country is significantly different from the usual oil producer; both in the economy of oil production and in the allocation of revenues in the national budget. The NW-SE-striking Seulimeum fault in northernmost Sumatra has triggered several major earthquakes in the last decades and can thus harm the surrounding community. The microtremor HVSR method was implemented in the Lamteuba area, which is proximate to the Seulimeum fault, to analyze the possible seismic impact of numerous shallow-depth earthquakes. HVSR values were calculated for 21 sampling points. Results show that the dominant frequency is between 1 and 4 Hz, and the dominant period is 0-0.5 s; these are associated with young volcanic sediment. The areas with the highest amplification are located in the central and southern parts of the study area, with a vulnerability value (Kg) greater than 1. The Kg value of the northern part is under 1 because of its proximity to a Tertiary volcanic rock formation. About 40% of the study area is vulnerable to earthquakes, as suggested by the high susceptibility index, which is associated with soft sediment. These results are supported by the perception of the local community, which serves as a framework for acculturating the mitigation. The public perception responses show a lack of the knowledge and infrastructure needed to mitigate disasters in the area. This study also reveals a lack of actions to be taken before, during, and after a disaster. This work successfully combines seismic analysis with public perception to determine the earthquake risk level and develop a mitigation plan for the study area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A library is a work unit in the form of a place to store collections of library materials that are systematically arranged in a certain way to be used continuously by the user as a source of information. Village library is an inseparable part of the world of education. Villages that have a complete library will be able to develop wider community knowledge. But in reality, the facilities in the village library are inadequate, for example, collection materials such as textbooks, religious books and general information that are only a few or incomplete. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the gampong library on the interest in reading religious books for the people in Aceh province. The research design used is a quantitative method, while for the sample in this study are in Aceh Province. The total number of residents to be studied is 300 people. Data collection techniques in this study were observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Based on the results of the study, the results of the Acehnese community on reading religious books available in the gampong library can be said to be very good, this can be seen from the percentage results where the percentage of people's learning interest averages above 60%. Then it can be concluded that there is an influence of the gampong library on the interest in reading religious books for the people in Aceh province.

Abstract. This study aims to determine the use of inquiry-based learning model laboratory to increase critical thinking skills of students of SMP Negeri 6 Banda Aceh on light reflection material. The method used is a quasi-experimental control group design with pre-test and post-test design. The population in this study is in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Banda Aceh. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique. As for the samples in the study were students VIII2 as an experimental class, and the class as a class VIII5 control the number of students in each class of 30 people. Experimental class taught by laboratory-based inquiry learning model, and the control class was taught by conventional learning models. Data collected through the research instrument is test critical thinking skills in essay form. Conclusions are drawn based on the results of data analysis and processing using Microsoft Word Exel, 2013. The results of data analysis showed an average score of critical thinking skills and experimental control group was 27.90% (low) and 42.02% (moderate). This result was also confirmed by the t-test, the average difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills (α = 0.05) obtained t (6.10) t table (2.39). These results indicate a laboratory-based inquiry learning model can significantly improve the students' critical thinking skills compared with conventional learning models in light reflection material. This study unveils a novel electrochemical biosensor for monitoring glucose in biological fluids by employing nanorods of a cobalt-bispyridyl/dicarboxylate framework grown in a layer-by-layer manner on a highly porous nickel substrate. The hybrid microporous system has a bicatalytic effect on glucose oxidation due to the synergistic catalytic impact of the nickel and cobalt ions with varying oxidation states as electroactive sites. In addition, the controlled growth of inorganic-organic frameworks changes the mechanism of electron transfer from a diffusion-controlled process to an adsorption-controlled process, thus yielding a low onset oxidation potential (∼0.21 V/Ag-AgCl) and a high current intensity (∼1 mA) for the oxidation of glucose in alkaline media. A fast response time (∼2 s) and a reasonably high sensitivity (0.14 μA μM -1 ) within a broad linear range (40-360 μM) have determined the suitability and superiority of the hybrid electrode for glucose monitoring compared to many metal-organic-based biosensors. The facile fabrication process of the Co(II) coordination polymer/Ni substrate with a large surface area that benefits from the synergetic catalytic activity of nickel-cobalt hybrids may pave the way for the development of novel hybrid electrodes for biosensors and direct glucose fuel cells.

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is an uncommon disorder with an increased mortality risk. Data on the sex-specific clinical profile and related factors can be practical in clinical diagnosis and management. Thus, we aimed to assess CVST characteristics in Shahrekord, the most elevated city among the centers of the provinces of Iran, referred to as the Roof of Iran. In this retrospective cross-sectional study, we reviewed the hospital records of 127 CVST patients between April 2013 and June 2023 to analyze the demographic characteristics, clinical profile, disease outcomes, and risk factors. STROBE guidelines were used to report this study. Females comprised 65.3% of the study. Females' age was almost equal to male patients (37.51 ± 13.95 years vs 38.09 ± 16.18 years, P = .832), and more than half of the patients (59.1%) were married. Clinical characteristics showed no significant difference between the sexes. In contrast to males, females had multifarious risk factors. However, the main risk factors for both sexes were CVST and hypertension. Most patients had 1 sinus affected (55.9%), and the location of thrombosis was mainly in the right transverse sinus in males (38.63%) and superior sagittal sinus in females (33.73%). However, those with more than 2 affected sinuses were mostly women. Regarding radiological findings, sinusitis was significantly seen in men (18.18% vs 3.61%). Among laboratory data, females significantly had higher erythrocyte sedimentation rate levels than males (21.66 ± 24.39 vs 9.60 ± 8.55). This study indicates that among CVST patients, men have significantly higher occurrences of sinusitis, and higher levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate were observed in women. However, no other significant differences were found. Rationale: 3P association (3PA) is a rare condition with co-occurrence of pituitary adenoma and pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma. There have been less than a hundred documented cases of 3PA, which can be sporadic or related to genetic mutations. The present case report describes the first Iranian patient with 3PA and a 90th case of 3PA in the available literature., Patient Concerns and Interventions: A 36-year-old Caucasian male was admitted with headache and sudden increase in blood pressure. An abdominal CT scan revealed a retroperitoneal mass posterior to the inferior vena cava, later removed and diagnosed as a pheochromocytoma. Four years later, he noticed occasional mild headaches and a painless mass on the right side of his neck. The ultrasonography evaluations suggested a carotid body tumor, which was surgically removed. About a month after his second surgery, the severity of the patient's headaches worsened, and he developed right homonymous hemianopia. A brain MRI showed a mass in favor of macroadenoma, craniopharyngioma, or meningioma, and elevated prolactin level led to the diagnosis of macroprolactinoma., Diagnoses: Based on the provided history, this patient was diagnosed with 3PA, and a genetic study identified a positive succinate-dehydrogenase-complex subunit b mutation, possibly linked to his family history of carotid body tumor., Outcomes: He has remained symptom-free during his visits every 3 months., Lessons: The number of cases diagnosed with 3PA worldwide is increasing. An ideal dielectric material for microelectronic devices requires a combination of high anisotropic thermal conductivity and low dielectric constant (ɛ') and loss (tan δ). Polymer composites of boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs), which offer excellent thermal and dielectric properties, show promise for developing these dielectric polymer composites. Herein, a simple method for fabricating polymer/BNNT composites with high directional thermal conductivity and excellent dielectric properties is presented. The nanocomposites with directionally aligned BNNTs are fabricated through melt-compounding and in situ fibrillation, followed by sintering the fibrous nanocomposites. The fabricated nanocomposites show a significant enhancement in thermal properties, with an in-plane thermal conductivity (K ‖ ) of 1.8 Wm -1 K -1 -a 450% increase-yielding a high anisotropy ratio (K ‖ /K ⊥ ) of 36, a 1700% improvement over isotropic samples containing only 7.2 vol% BNNT. These samples exhibit a 120% faster in-plane heat dissipation compared to the through-plane within 2 s. Additionally, they display low ɛ' of ≈3.2 and extremely low tan δ of ≈0.014 at 1 kHz. These results indicate that this method provides a new avenue for designing and creating polymer composites with enhanced directional heat dissipation properties along with high K ‖ , suitable for thermal management applications in electronic packaging, thermal interface materials, and passive cooling systems., (© 2024 The Author(s). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairments in social communication and behavior, frequently accompanied by restricted and repetitive patterns of interests or activities. The gut microbiota has been implicated in the etiology of ASD due to its impact on the bidirectional communication pathway known as the gut-brain axis. However, the precise involvement of the gut microbiota in the causation of ASD is unclear. This study critically examines recent evidence to rationalize a probable mechanism in which gut microbiota symbiosis can induce neuroinflammation through intermediator cytokines and metabolites. To develop ASD, loss of the integrity of the intestinal barrier, activation of microglia, and dysregulation of neurotransmitters are caused by neural inflammatory factors. It has emphasized the potential role of neuroinflammatory intermediates linked to gut microbiota alterations in individuals with ASD. Specifically, cytokines like brain-derived neurotrophic factor, calprotectin, eotaxin, and some metabolites and microRNAs have been considered etiological biomarkers. We have also overviewed how probiotic trials may be used as a therapeutic strategy in ASD to reestablish a healthy balance in the gut microbiota. Evidence indicates neuroinflammation induced by dysregulated gut microbiota in ASD, yet there is little clarity based on analysis of the circulating immune profile. It deems the repair of microbiota load would lower inflammatory chaos in the GI tract, correct neuroinflammatory mediators, and modulate the neurotransmitters to attenuate autism. The interaction between the gut and the brain, along with alterations in microbiota and neuroinflammatory biomarkers, serves as a foundational background for understanding the etiology, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of autism spectrum disorder., (© 2024. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are fluorinated and refractory pollutants that are ubiquitous in industrial wastewater. Photocatalytic destruction of such pollutants with catalysts such as TiO 2 and ZnO is an attractive avenue for removal of PFAS, but refined forms of such photocatalysts are expensive. This study, for the first time, utilized milled unrefined raw mineral ilmenite, coupled to UV-C irradiation to achieve mineralization of the two model PFAS compounds perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluoro octane sulfonic acid (PFOS). Results obtained using a bench-scale photocatalytic reactor system demonstrated rapid removal kinetics of PFAS compounds (>90% removal in less than 10 h) in environmentally-relevant concentrations (200-1000 ppb). Raw ilmenite was reused over three consecutive degradation cycles of PFAS, retaining >80% removal efficiency. Analysis of degradation products indicated defluorination and the presence of shorter-chain PFAS intermediates in the initial samples. End samples indicated the disappearance of short-chain PFAS intermediates and further accumulation of fluoride ions, suggesting that original PFAS compounds underwent mineralization due to an oxygen-radical-based photocatalytic destruction mechanism induced by TiO 2 present in ilmenite and UV irradiation. The outcome of this study implies that raw ilmenite coupled to UV-C is suitable for cost-effective reactor operation and efficient photocatalytic destruction of PFAS compounds.

Papaver bracteatum, known for its high thebaine content and absence of morphine, has emerged as a promising alternative to opium poppy for codeine production. In this study, our objective was to create a diverse panel representing the natural variation of this species in Iran. To achieve this, we employed genotyping-by-sequencing to obtain genome-wide distributed single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for phylogeographic analysis, population structure assessment, and evaluation of genetic diversity within P. bracteatum populations. A total of 244 P. bracteatum individuals from 13 distinct populations formed seven genetic groups, along with one highly admixed population. We observed a clear split between the populations inhabiting the Alborz Mts. in the east and Zagros Mts. in the west. In between these mountain ranges, the population of Kachal Mangan exhibited a high degree of genetic admixture between both genetic groups. At or after the end of the last glacial maximum, when climate conditions rapidly changed, all P. bracteatum populations experienced a strong demographic bottleneck reducing the already small effective population sizes further before they increased to their recent strengths. Our results suggest that the ongoing climate change together with human pressure on the species' habitats and limited seed-dispersal ability are potential factors contributing today to rising genetic isolation of P. bracteatum populations. Age-related atrophy of skeletal muscle, is characterized by loss of mass, strength, endurance, and oxidative capacity during aging. Notably, bioenergetics and protein turnover studies have shown that mitochondria mediate this decline in function. Although exercise has been the only therapy to mitigate sarcopenia, the mechanisms that govern how exercise serves to promote healthy muscle aging are unclear. Mitochondrial aging is associated with decreased mitochondrial capacity, so we sought to investigate how aging affects mitochondrial structure and potential age-related regulators. Specifically, the three-dimensional (3D) mitochondrial structure associated with morphological changes in skeletal muscle during aging requires further elucidation. We hypothesized that aging causes structural remodeling of mitochondrial 3D architecture representative of dysfunction, and this effect is mitigated by exercise. We used serial block-face scanning electron microscopy to image human skeletal tissue samples, followed by manual contour tracing using Amira software for 3D reconstruction and subsequent analysis of mitochondria. We then applied a rigorous in vitro and in vivo exercise regimen during aging. Across 5 human cohorts, we correlate differences in magnetic resonance imaging, mitochondria 3D structure, exercise parameters, and plasma immune markers between young (under 50 years) and old (over 50 years) individuals. We found that mitochondria we less spherical and more complex, indicating age-related declines in contact site capacity. Additionally, aged samples showed a larger volume phenotype in both female and male humans, indicating potential mitochondrial swelling. Concomitantly, muscle area, exercise capacity, and mitochondrial dynamic proteins showed age-related losses. Exercise stimulation restored mitofusin 2 (MFN2), one such of these mitochondrial dynamic proteins, which we show is required for the integrity of mitochondrial structure. Furthermore, we show that this pathway is evolutionarily conserved as Marf, the MFN2 ortholog in Drosophila , knockdown alters mitochondrial morphology and leads to the downregulation of genes regulating mitochondrial processes. The urgent need for the development of micro-thin shields against electromagnetic interference (EMI) has sparked interest in MXene materials owing to their metallic electrical conductivity and ease of film processing. Meanwhile, postprocessing treatments can potentially exert profound impacts on their shielding effectiveness (SE). This work comprehensively compares two reduction methods, hydrazine versus thermal, to fabricate foamed titanium carbonitride (Ti 3 CNT x ) MXene films for efficient EMI shielding. Upon treatment of ≈ 100 µm-thick MXene films, gaseous transformations of oxygen-containing surface groups induce highly porous structures (up to ≈ 74.0% porosity). The controlled application of hydrazine and heat allows precise regulation of the reduction processes, enabling tailored control over the morphology, thickness, chemistry, and electrical properties of the MXene films. Accordingly, the EMI SE values are theoretically and experimentally determined. The treated MXene films exhibit significantly enhanced SE values compared to the pristine MXene film (≈ 52.2 dB), with ≈ 38% and ≈ 83% maximum improvements for the hydrazine and heat-treated samples, respectively. Particularly, heat treatment is more effective in terms of this enhancement such that an SE of 118.4 dB is achieved at 14.3 GHz, unprecedented for synthetic materials. Our study aimed to enhance understanding of nasal polyp pathophysiology by reviewing the data for variations of NLR values between patients with nasal polyp and healthy controls. We searched Web of Science, PubMed, ProQuest, and Scopus up to 2 April 2023. The search strategy was not limited to any specific language. Twelve studies were included in our study. Of them, ten studies, involving 898 nasal polyp patients and 590 control patients, were included in the meta-analysis. The NLR levels in nasal polyp patients were statistically greater than in the control group (SMD = 0.56; 95%CI 0.04-1.08, P  = 0.036). Subgroup analysis based on study design yielded that patients with nasal polyp exhibited significantly higher NLR levels than healthy controls in retrospective studies (SMD = 0.83; 95%CI 0.30-1.35, P = 0.002) but not in prospective studies (SMD = 0.10; 95%CI = -1.03 to 1.23, P = 0.85). Also, we found that the NLR levels in nasal polyp patients were significantly higher than healthy controls in high-quality studies (SMD = 1.00; 95%CI 0.38-1.62, P  = 0.002) but not in low-quality studies (SMD = 0.11; 95%CI = -0.69 to 0.91, P = 0.79). A total of 312 patients with recurrence and 550 patients without recurrence were included in the study. The combined results revealed that NLR levels in nasal polyp recurrence patients were significantly higher than those of the nasal polyp without recurrence group (SMD = 0.06, 95% CI 0.39-0.81, P  = 0.000). Mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contact sites (MERCs) are protein- and lipid-enriched hubs that mediate interorganellar communication by contributing to the dynamic transfer of Ca 2+ , lipid, and other metabolites between these organelles. Defective MERCs are associated with cellular oxidative stress, neurodegenerative disease, and cardiac and skeletal muscle pathology via mechanisms that are poorly understood. We previously demonstrated that skeletal muscle-specific knockdown (KD) of the mitochondrial fusion mediator optic atrophy 1 (OPA1) induced ER stress and correlated with an induction of Mitofusin-2, a known MERC protein. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that Opa1 downregulation in skeletal muscle cells alters MERC formation by evaluating multiple myocyte systems, including from mice and Drosophila, and in primary myotubes. Our results revealed that OPA1 deficiency induced tighter and more frequent MERCs in concert with a greater abundance of MERC proteins involved in calcium exchange. Additionally, loss of OPA1 increased the expression of activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), an integrated stress response (ISR) pathway effector. Reducing Atf4 expression prevented the OPA1-loss-induced tightening of MERC structures. OPA1 reduction was associated with decreased mitochondrial and sarcoplasmic reticulum, a specialized form of ER, calcium, which was reversed following ATF4 repression. The fabrication of absorption-dominant electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials is a pressing priority to prevent secondary electromagnetic pollution in miniaturized electronic devices and communication systems. Meeting this goal has remained a tough challenge to keep pace with the rapid evolution of electronics due to the complex compositional and structural design and narrow operating bands. This work articulates a sound and simple strategy to precisely modulate the electrical conductivity of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), as the building block in lightweight double-layered rGO-film/rGO-aerogel/polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA) composites, for efficient microwave absorption over the entire Ku-band frequency range. These constructs reasonably comprised a porous absorption structure built from parallel rGO sheets aligned and prepared via freeze casting followed by freeze drying. The electrical conductivity and impedance of this layer were tuned by varying the annealing temperature from 400 to 800 °C, thereby adjusting the degree of reduction and the absorption characteristic. This layer was backed by a highly conductive rGO film reduced at a high temperature of 1000 °C, with a reflectivity of 97.5%. The incorporation of this film ensured high EMI shielding effectiveness of the double-layered structure through the absorption-reflection-reabsorption mechanism, consistent with the predicted values based on calculated loss factors and the input impedance of the structure. Accordingly, at an average EMI shielding effectiveness of 57.59 dB, the reflection shielding effectiveness (SE R ) and reflectivity ( R ) of the assembled composites were optimized to be as low as 0.22 dB and 0.049, respectively. This equates to approximately 99.999% shielding (SE T ) and ∼95% absorptivity ( A ) of the incident wave. This study opens new avenues for the development of lightweight (with a density as low as 15 mg/cm 3 ) absorption-dominant EMI shielding composite materials with promising EMI shielding efficiency and potential applications in modern electronics.

Background: The present study aims to review the existing scientific literature on the role of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) to perform a meta-analysis on the available data., Methods: The electronic repositories Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus were systematically explored starting from their establishment up until June 9, 2022., Results: Fifteen articles were included in the meta-analysis after multiple screening according to the PRISMA guidelines. The combined findings indicated that individuals with DPN had higher levels of NLR in comparison to those without DPN (SMD = 0.61; CI 95% = 0.40-0.81, p < 0.001). In the subgroup assessment based on ethnicity, it was observed that diabetic patients with DPN exhibited increased NLR levels in contrast to those without DPN in studies conducted in India (SMD = 1.30; CI 95% = 0.37-2.24, p = 0.006) and East Asia (SMD = 0.53; CI 95% = 0.34-0.73, p < 0.001) but not in studies conducted in Turkey (SMD = 0.30; CI 95% = - 0.06-0.67, p = 0.104) and Egypt (SMD = 0.34; CI 95% = -0.14-0.82, p = 0.165). The pooled sensitivity of NLR was 0.67 (95% CI = 0.49-0.81), and the pooled specificity was 0.70 (95% CI, 0.56-0.81). The pooled positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) of NLR were 2.30 (95% CI = 1.71-3.09), 0.45 (95%CI = 0.30-0.67), and 5.06 (95% CI = 3.16-8.12), respectively., Conclusion: NLR serves as a distinct marker of inflammation, and its rise in cases of DPN suggests an immune system imbalance playing a role in the development of the disease., (© 2023. Background: We aimed to better understand the outcomes/complications of pie-crusting technique using blade knife during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with knee genu varum deformity., Materials and Methods: A systematic search was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines. English and Persian language articles were considered on the use of pie-crusting technique during TKA in patients with knee genu varum/varus deformity using related keywords and Medical Subject Headings terms with reported postoperative complications and outcomes., Results: Primary search resulted in 81 studies of them 9 included in our study (ages ranged: 19 years to 62 years). No perioperative complications and/or any significant differences between pie-crusting and control group were observed. Except for two studies that found no significant positive effect for the use of pie-crusting, other studies found pie-crusting a useful and promising technique. Four studies found significant improvement in pie-crusting group compared to control in terms of functional Knee Society Score (KSS), range of motion (ROM), medial gap, and the knee-specific KKS. Three records found no significant differences in terms of functional KSS, ROM; however, they reported fewer use of constrained inserts or a reasonable correction of femoral tibial angle. No serious complications were reported., Conclusions: Due to the inconsistency of the results on the efficiency and outcomes of pie-crusting, we cannot make a firm conclusion and more high-quality studies are needed in this regard.
