7. The Role of Brain-Based Learning in Training Students' Critical Thinking Skills

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to determine the role of brain-based learning in training students' critical thinking skills. Method: The research method used is a review article from 20 main scientific articles obtained from Google Scholar, Google, and Science Direct online with the keywords brain-based learning and critical thinking skills. Results:  The results show that brain-based learning can be applied to gain critical thinking skills in mathematics and natural science material compared to conventional learning. Brain-based learning notes how the brain processes and interprets information after processing. A learning method that aligns with how the brain functions naturally will help students become more adept at critical thinking. Novelty: One of the most challenging issues of the 20th century is the improvement of information technology and the environment. Building quality human resources is a strategic and critical function of high-quality education. Today's students need to learn how to think critically.

Abstract

Preparing high‐quality graduates is a pressing challenge in teacher education, particularly among vocational high school graduates in Indonesia who face elevated unemployment rates. This experimental study explores the impact of integrating augmented reality (AR) and higher order thinking skills (HOTS) into vocational teacher education, empowering future educators with essential skills to meet evolving educational demands. The proposed learning media served to assist students in better comprehending abstract content through HOTS‐based learning activities, improving subject mastery. We investigated the effects of AR‐based HOTS learning media on learning performance based on self‐regulated learning, digital literacy, and critical thinking, using a mixed‐method research design with 241 participants. Our results demonstrate a positive impact on these factors, underscoring the significance of effective AR‐based learning tools in enhancing the quality of vocational teacher education. Abstract

The need for renewable energy demand is currently growing very rapidly, and this very rapid development makes the exploitation quite large, one of which is wind energy. The need for monitoring the potential of wind energy to know the speed of wind energy that blows in a location in one day. The results obtained show that the faster the wind rotation (wind turbine blades), the greater the voltage generated, namely the wind speed is directly proportional to the voltage, in the measurement at 07.00 am to 05.00 pm the lowest wind speed is 1.31 m/s with an output voltage of 12.31 VDC. and a current of 0.26 A at 08.00 am and the highest wind speed is 5.13 m/s with an output voltage of 12.73 VDC and a current of 0.29 A. 19. Corporate Social Responsibility in Work-Based Learning: Industry Perspective

Abstract

Work-Based Learning is one of the learnings requiring collaboration between educational institutions and industry. Without collaboration, the educational institution cannot place their student for training, and the industry cannot fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The collaboration will bring a win-win situation for each party. To be established in Malaysia, each industry must carry out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and can enjoy tax exemption. This study explores the industrial experience in CSR while collaborating on Advanced Diploma and bachelor’s degree with an Honors program using WBL methods. This study was conducted using multiple case studies of qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews and guided by two sets of the protocol. This study involved eight participants from Polytechnic UA, Polytechnic SA, company A, company B, and company C. The finding shows that companies A and B agreed that their collaboration in the WBL program could fulfill the CSR and enjoy the tax exemption. It has contrasted with company C. Company C only fulfilled its CSR for three years and stopped due to financial problems. However, Company C still collaborates with Polytechnic SA in WBL program. Based on this finding, more industries will be interested in fulfilling their CSR by collaborating with educational institutions using WBL methods.

Abstract

Sidodadi village is a village located in Ngantang District, Malang Regency which is about 47.5 km from UM with a distance of about 120 minutes using a motorized vehicle. At this time Sidodadi Village is trying to carry out village development in terms of centralized waste disposal (TPA). Sidodadi Village still does not have a centralized TPA, so far the final disposal is done independently. The construction of this initial TPA was used to accommodate the final disposal of one hamlet first as a pilot material for the other 6 hamlets. The waste that is accommodated by the TPA, apart from waste from residents, also comes from the market around the Sekar Hamlet area. The village person in charge hopes that the waste obtained can be recycled, so that it can increase the benefits of this TPA construction. It is also hoped that the TPA will be able to accommodate the disposal of 7 Hamlets later. Therefore, to overcome this anxiety, the Malang State University community service team made a plastic waste sorting device using a hydrolink with various geometric configurations to help reduce problems related to plastic waste in Sidodadi Village. Plastic waste is a type of waste that is very difficult to decompose, recycling is an effective thing to overcome the problem of plastic waste. This activity is expected to create an appropriate plastic waste sorting tool and in accordance with the needs of Sidodadi Village; the creation of an effective, efficient and useful waste disposal system; creating public awareness about the importance of centralized waste disposal; and managers/administrators appointed by the Village become more aware and able to use tools, and their performance (optimal) can be helped by the existence of these tools. So that the people in Sidodadi Village have a more comfortable, calm and peaceful environment because the waste problem can be resolved. Abstrak Desa sidodadi merupakan desa yang terletak di Kecamatan Ngantang, Kabupaten Malang yangberjarak sekitar 47,5 km dari UM dengan jarak tempuh sekitar 120 menit menggunakan kendaraan bermotor. Pada saat ini Desa Sidodadi tengah berusaha melakukan pembangunan desa dalam hal sentralisasi pembuangan sampah (TPA). Desa Sidodadi masih belum memiliki TPA tersentral, selama ini pembuangan akhir dilakukan secara mandiri. Pembangunan TPA awal ini digunakan untuk menampung pembungan akhir dari satu Dusun terlebih dahulu sebagai bahan percontohan untuk 6 dusun yang lain. Sampah yang ditampung oleh TPA ini selain sampah dari warga juga berasal dari pasar sekitar Daerah Dusun Sekar. Penganggung jawab desa berharap agar sampah yang diperoleh dapat di daur ulang, sehingga dapat menabah manfaat dari pembangunan TPA ini. Juga diharapkan TPA mampu menampung pembuangan dari 7 Dusun Nantinya. Oleh karena itu untuk mengatasi keresahan tersebut timpengabdian masyarakat Universitas Negeri Malang membuat alat pemilah sampah plastik mengunakan hidrolink dengan berbagai konfigurasi geometrik untuk membantu mengurangi permasalahan terkaitsampah Plastik di Desa Sidodadi. Sampah plastik merupakan jenis ampah yang sangat susah untuk mengurai, daur ulang adalah hal yang efektif utuk mengatasi permasalahan terhadap sampah plastik. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat terciptanya alat pemilah sampah plastik yang tepat guna dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan Desa Sidodadi; terciptanya sistem pembuangan sampah yang efektif,efisien dan bermafaat; terciptanya keperdulian masyarakat tentang pentingnya pembuangan sampah yang terpusat; dan pengelola/ pengurus yang ditunjuk oleh Desa menjadi lebih paham dan mampu menggunakan alat, serta dapat terbantu kinerjanya (optimal) dengan keberadaan alat tersebut. Sehingga masyarakat di Desa Sidodadi memiliki lingkungan yang lebih nyaman, tenang dan damai karena masalah sampah tersebut bisa teratasi.

Abstract

Link and match is one of the government programs to increase the relevance of vocational education to the needs of the industrial world. The Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Malang runs this program with partner industries to develop a learning curriculum for vocational-based study programs. The learning curriculum developed includes lesson plans and learning modules based on the massive open online course (MOOC) on solar power plants in renewable energy courses. This MOOC development is based on the ADDIE development method. This MOOC is also structured to improve the technical skills and employability skills of students taking renewable energy courses, especially on the topic of solar power generation. MOOC validation was carried out by material and media experts from industry and academia and involved respondents, namely students. The results of the validation carried out obtained a validity level of 91.25%, so that the product is declared feasible to be implemented in learning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Electrical energy in Indonesia comes from various power plants. One of the energy sources used is solar energy with a usage percentage of 0.003%. The potential for the use of solar energy is still very large, especially in Indonesia with tropical regions. Solar energy can also be used in making learning media in the form of trainers. Based on trainer observations conducted at the Energy Conversion Laboratory of the Department of Electrical Engineering Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia, there are solar power generator trainers that not suitable to support the Energy Management Course because there are no energy production control and load management features. While The energy management course discusses control of energy production and load management, so it is necessary to develop trainer to achieve the learning objectives of energy management courses. The development model used in this research is based on Sugiyono's model. The validation process was done by expert 1 and expert 2 while the product also was tested on undergraduate student in the Electrical Engineering and vocational student of Electrical Engineering who have already studied about Energy Management Courses. The validation result of trainers shows the average percentage of 94.2% while the job sheets as the support material for trainer has validated with the average percentage of 94.3%. This result shows the eligibility category is very feasible. Furthermore, the testing result of trainer which is done by students has the average percentage of 93.1% while that of the job sheet has the average percentage of 92.8%. This result means that the eligibility category in the testing case is also very feasible. From the results of the data analysis, it can be concluded that the IoT-based energy monitoring system trainer and the energy management job sheet is feasible to use in the learning process of the Energy Management Course, Department of Electrical Engineering, Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia. 30. STUDI PEMBUATAN MALTODEKSTRIN DARI PATI AMPAS SAGU DAN PEMANFAATANNYA SEBAGAI BAHAN ENKAPSULASI EKSTRAK PIGMEN BUAH SENDUDUK (Melastoma malabathricum L.)

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui metode ekstraksi pati ampas sagu paling tepat dan pengaruh konsentrasi enzim α-amilase dalam pembuatan maltodekstrin serta aplikasi sebagai bahan enkapsulasi pigmen buah senduduk. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua tahapan. Tahap pertama yaitu ekstraksi pati ampas sagu dengan dua metode yaitu hidrotermal dan ultrasonikasi. Tahap kedua yaitu pembuatan maltodektrin dari pati hasil terbaik dari penelitian tahap pertama (ultrasonikasi) dengan perlakuan konsentrasi enzim α-amilase yaitu 0,05%, 0,07% dan 0,09%. Selanjutnya, maltodektrin terbaik yang diperoleh diaplikasikan sebagai bahan enkapsulasi ekstrak pigmen buah senduduk. Penelitian tahap pertama menggunakan metode deskriptif untuk mengetahui proses ekstraksi pati paling tepat dari karakteristik fisik dan kimianya. Penelitian tahap kedua menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 3 perlakuan dan 2 ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada tahap pembuatan maltodekstrin hanya ada 2 konsentrasi enzim α-amilase yang dapat membentuk bubuk maltodekstrin yaitu konsentrasi enzim 0,05% dan 0,07%. Selanjutnya data dianalisis menggunakan metode paired sampel T test untuk membandingkan dua kelompok sampel data. Hasil penelitian terbaik pada tahap pertama yaitu ekstraksi pati ampas sagu dengan menggunakan ultrasonikasi dengan rendemen 7,66%, kadar air 6,35%, pH 5,59, kelarutan 11,13%, densitas 0,83 g/ml, swelling power 14,46 g/g, serat kasar 3,75%, visikositas 967 BU, amilosa 17,75% dan amilopektin 82,25%. Hasil penelitian terbaik pada tahap kedua yaitu pembuatan maltodekstrin dengan menggunakan konsentrasi enzim α-amilase 0,07% dengan rendemen 96,73%, kadar air 3,26%, kadar abu 0,32%, DE 16,96%,densitas 0,47 g/ml, pH 4,84, swelling power 0,052 g/g, kelarutan 74,74%, serat kasar 1,55%, derajat putih 71,26%, kadar sisa pati 5,46% dan distribusi partikel maltodekstrin berkisar 0,5-6,2 µm. Enkapsulasi pigmen senduduk menggunakan maltodekstrin terbaik (0,07%) dapat menurunkan nilai kadar antosianin total, total polifenol dan aktivitas antioksidan IC50 sebanyak tiga kali nilai ekstrak. Penurunan nilai kadar antosianin total yaitu dari 546,70 mg/L menjadi 179,14 mg/L, total polifenol 1182,30 mgGaE/g menjadi 397,50 mgGaE/g dan aktivitas antioksidan IC50 dari 23,38 ppm (sangat kuat) menjadi 77,38 ppm yang tergolong kuat.

39. Extraction And Analysis Of Characteristics of Starch From Sago Hampas

Abstract

Sago hampas is a by-products of the sago processing industry which has not been handled properly and has unique material because it is a strachy lignocelluloses material with a starch content of 50-70%, but it has a weakness because it it tightly bound in the lignocelluloses matrix. This research aimed to determine the appropriate extraction method for sago hampas starch and characteristics of starch from sago hampas.This research used two extraction methods, hydrothermal using autoclave and ultrasonification using ultrasonic bath. The results showed that the best extraction method was using ultrasonification for 60 minutes without temperature treatment with a sago hampas concentration of 4% (w/v), obtained a water content of 6.35%, yield 7.69%, density 0.83 (g/ml), pH 5.59, visicosity 967 BU, solubility 11.13%, swelling power 14.46 g/g, amylose 17.75% and amylopectin 82.25%.

41. A Case of third molar autotransplantation into first molar recipient site with periapical granuloma

Abstract

Autotransplantation of molar is a potential treatment option to restore perfect occlusion and to improve mastication following a substantial loss of molars. A succesful transplantation depends on the general patient condition, the donor tooth, and the recipient site. An ideal recipient site should have sufficient alveolar bone support, periodontal, and tissue and absence of chronic inflamation. We reported a case of third molar autotransplantation to first molar with periapical granuloma as recipient site with one year follow-up. Autotransplantation process started with an adequate curettage of the recipient site immediately, followed by atraumatic donor tooth extraction. The result of clinical and radiological examination showed no pain, no tooth mobility, and no inflammation at periapical first molar region. Periapical granuloma at the recipient site is not an absolute contraindication of autotransplantation. Extra-alveolar period and atraumatic extraction of the donor tooth during autotransplantation affected the condition of periodontal ligament

Abstract

In general, one of the main components used in electric power systems is a transformer. In principles, this equipment uses a magnetic process through the pairing winding where a cooling system is also applied to maintain the expected operational performance and to maintain heat transfer during the power delivery. In fact, load demand changes fluctuate depending on the behavior of energy users. This research is conducted to evaluate heat transfer in a three-phase transformer. This work also takes into the flowing current gradually based on the heat generated in the transformer. To cover these objectives, the analysis is directed to the power transformer optimization using the Artificial Salmon Tracking Algorithm (ASTA) for performing heat flow rates on-demand changes. The results obtained indicate that ASTA has a potential implementation for determining the optimal heat transfer. Abstract

Recently, alternative energy becomes a popular issue associated with decreasing fossil energy source consumption. Moreover, this aim leads to renewable energy conservation for exploring potential sources, such as, solar and wind energy, which are more familiar than other energy sources. However, renewable energy usage is very dependent on the existing technology development which is applied to catch the natural energy sources. These works are subjected to study and estimate the downstream speed on the wind energy as a potential renewable energy source which is utilized for the wind farm energy harvesting. These works also consider the 24 hours operation based on technical parameters of the wind turbine and natural wind speed performances. These studies are demonstrated on the random surface roughness performing using an artificial salmon tracking algorithm. Results show that the random surface roughness influences the pattern of wind dispersion and wind speed reduction, as well as sweeping areas affected by the wind. It also has an impact on energy production related to the wind farm energy harvesting. Regarding the surface roughness within 0.01-0.936 randomly, the downstream speed covers 3.842-5.053 m/s. In particular, the wake decay also contributes to the wind sweeping in the harvesting potential energy area. By considering the hub high of 10 m, the highest downstream leads to the slowest speed on the constant wind flows. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Penelititan ini di lakukan pada PT PROPNEX SURABAYA, dengan judul yg di angkat “Pengaruh Kepemimpinan dan Disiplin Kerja Terhadap Kinerja Pegawai Pada PT Propnex Surabaya”. Kinerja merupakan hasil kerja secara kualitas dan kuantitas yang di capai oleh seorang pegawai dalam melaksanakan tugasnya sesuai dengan tanggung jawab yang di berikan kepadanya. Kinerja di pengaruhi oleh faktor anatara lain kepemimpinan dan disiplin kerja. Dalam penelitian ini yang akan di bahas yaitu pengaruh Kepemimpinan dan Disiplin Kerja terhadap kinerja pegawai.Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif yang mengambil sampel dari suatu popolasi. Populasi penelitian ini adalah pegawai kantor PT Propnex Surabaya, sehingga jumlah populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 50 orang pegawai. Metode pengambilan sampel yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah probability sampling berdasarkan stratified random sampling, Sehingga didapat sampel sebanayak 50 orang pegawai yang responden dan metode pengumpulan data yang di gunakan adalah metode kuisioner. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan alat analisis Regresi Linier Berganda (multiple linier regression) untuk mengetahui pengaruh kepemimpinan dan disiplin kerja terhadap kinerja pegawai kantor PT Propnex Surabaya dengan menggunakan SPSS versi 16.00 for windos.
