This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 12 weeks of aerobic exercise (AT) and saffron supplementation on hemostasis, inflammatory markers, and insulin resistance in obese women diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D). A total of 44 women with T2D (mean age: 54.12 ± 5.63 years, mean BMI: 31.15 ± 1.50 kg/m2, HbA1c: 85 ± 4.2 mmol/mol) were included in a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study. We were randomly assigned to one of four groups (n = 11 per group): saffron + training (ST), placebo + training (PT), saffron supplement (SS), and placebo (P). The ST and PT groups completed 12 weeks of AT (three sessions per week of mild to moderate intensity). The ST and SS groups were administered a daily dose of 200 mg of saffron powder for 12 weeks. Fasting blood samples were collected 48 h before the first AT session and/or nutritional supplementation and 48 h after the last AT session and/or nutritional supplementation. Post‐evaluation, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance value (HOMA‐IR, p < 0.001) and serum levels of glucose (p < 0.001), fibrinogen (FIB, p < 0.001), homocysteine (HCY, p < 0.001), interleukin‐6 (IL‐6, p < 0.001), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα, p < 0.001) showed significant reduction in the ST, PT, and SS groups compared to the P group (p < 0.05). In particular, the ST group showed a more significant reduction in all variables compared to the PT and SS groups (p < 0.05). Our results suggest that a 12‐week intervention with AT and saffron supplementation can independently improve markers related to hemostasis, inflammation, and insulin resistance. However, their combination showed the greatest effectiveness on the above markers. Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is currently the fifth most common malignancy. Accumulating evidence has recently revealed that maladjustments of diverse long non-coding RNAs may play key roles in multiple genetic and epigenetic phenomena in GC. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), which are transcriptional products with more than 200 nucleotides, are a subset of non-coding RNAs. LncRNA LOWEG and lncRNA MINCR, as novel lncRNAs, may have roles in GC progression. Objective: This study aimed to examine the clinical and diagnostic significance of lncRNA LOWEG and lncRNA MINCR in GC. Methods: The qRT-PCR technique measured lncRNA LOWEG and lncRNA MINCR expression in GC tissues and matched adjacent marginal tissues. The association between clinicopathological parameters and the expression level of lncRNAs was evaluated. Furthermore, The ROC curve was plotted to assess the diagnostic power of lncRNA LOWEG and lncRNA MINCR as candidate biomarkers in gastric cancer patients. Results: We found that lncRNA LOWEG expression was downregulated in cancerous tissues compared to the adjacent marginal tissues (P-value < 0.0001). LncRNA MINCR expression was upregulated in cancerous tissues compared to adjacent marginal tissues (P-value < 0.0001). Downregulation of lncRNA LOWER and upregulation of lncRNA MINCR did not significantly correlate with clinicopathological parameters. ROC curve analysis showed that lncRNA LOWEG and lncRNA MINCR could be proposed as reliable diagnostic biomarkers in GC. Conclusion: The expression of the lncRNA LOWEG was reduced in tumoral tissues compared to the adjacent marginal tissues, and the expression of lncRNA MINCR increased in tumoral tissues. We surveyed the urial Ovis vignei and Siberian ibex Capra sibirica in the Hindu Kush mountain range of Wakhan National Park in north-eastern Afghanistan to determine their population status and identify potential drivers of population change. We conducted two double-observer ground surveys, in April–May 2015 and 2018, in 10 areas (total = 288 km2). Urial herds were mostly composed of both sexes (78% of observed herds), the mean adult sex ratio (females:males) was 100:70, and the mean female:juvenile ratio was 100:53. In 2018 we calculated a urial density of 35/100 km2, compared to 72/100 km2 in 2015. Ibex herds were mostly (79%) composed of both sexes, the mean adult sex ratio (females:males) was 100:103, and the mean female:juvenile ratio was 100:58. Ibex density estimates were similar in 2015 and 2018 (c. 250/100 km2). We discuss the usefulness of the double-observer methods for ungulate surveys, highlight the value of viewshed calculations and discuss the possible causes of urial population decline. To ensure the conservation of these ungulate populations, we recommend continued regular monitoring, measures to address poaching and research to clarify the taxonomical status of urials in Wakhan. Background: A critical role has been known for lncRNAs in the initiation and development of cancers. Therefore, lncRNAs have been reported as the possible biomarkers in relation to the diagnosis and therapy of malignancies. This project examined the change in CYTOR lncRNA expression in human cervical cancer samples as compared with adjacent healthy ones. Methods: We provided one hundred fifteen pairs of tumorous and adjacent healthy tissue specimens of cervical cancer patients. RNAs were isolated from tissue specimens and cDNAs were synthesized. We considered quantitative Real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) to examine the expression levels of CYTOR lncRNA. In addition, the biomarker activity of CYTOR and the associations between the lncRNA and clinicopathological characteristics were evaluated. Results: The significant increased expression of CYTOR was obtained in cancerous samples as compared with non-cancerous ones (P< 0.0001). A significant correlation was indicated between CYTOR expression and the squamous subtype of cervical cancer (p=0.046). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve-related AUC (area under the curve), specificity, and sensitivity were calculated 0.88, 81.74%, and 80%, respectively, which may introduce CYTOR as a potential biomarker. Conclusions: CYTOR may be an effective oncogene and biomarker in cervical cancer cases given its increased expression in human cervical cancer tissues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the current study, the expression levels of two important lncRNAs, i.e., AK058003 and APOC1P1, in breast tumors were compared with adjacent non-tumor tissues to evaluate their diagnostic potential in a panel of 121 patients. Total RNA was extracted, cDNA was synthesized and expression of AK058003 and APOC1P1 was assessed using qRT-PCR. A significant overexpression and positive correlation between these two lncRNAs were observed in tumor tissues compared to marginal healthy tissues. The sand boiling phenomenon occurs downstream of hydraulic structures, and the continuation of this phenomenon could lead to a structural failure. In this paper, by developing a device to simulate sand boiling, experimental tests have been performed to determine the critical hydraulic gradient on various sandy soil. The effect of different parameters was evaluated such as four relative densities (0, 20, 50 and 80%), uniformity coefficient, woven and non-woven geotextiles in both single and double-layer states and the particle size distribution. Based on the results, with increasing the relative density and uniformity coefficient, the sand resistance against the hydraulic failure improved and also in soils with Cu = 1, coarser sands have indicated more resistance to the boiling. In improvement by geotextile, reinforced sands beard more water load than natural sands, and the type and layer number of reinforcements have affected the test results. In addition, a statistical comparison has been performed between the experimental results and the proposed equation by Terzaghi to calculate the critical hydraulic gradient. Finally, by using experimental results, a linear and nonlinear regression model is presented to predict the required seepage force for the hydraulic failure of the specimens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Zymosan is a β-glucan isolated from Saccharomyces cerevisiae that could be employed for drug delivery. We synthesized zymosan nanoparticles and measured their structural and morphological properties using XRD, UV–Vis spectroscopy, TEM and AFM. The loading of doxorubicin (DOX) onto the nanoparticles was confirmed by FT-IR, and the DOX release was shown to be pH-dependent. The effect of these agents on C26 cell viability was evaluated by MTT tests and the expression of genes connected with the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and apoptosis were analyzed by RT-qPCR and Western blotting. Treatments were able to suppress the proliferation of C26 cells, and the zymosan nanocarriers loaded with DOX enhanced the anti-proliferative effect of DOX in a synergistic manner. Zymosan nanoparticles were able to suppress the expression of cyclin D1, VEGF, ZEB1, and Twist mRNAs. Treatment groups upregulated the expression of caspase-8, while reducing the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, thus promoting apoptosis. In conclusion, zymosan nanoparticles as DOX nanocarriers could provide a more targeted drug delivery through pH-responsiveness, and showed synergistic cytotoxicity by modifying Wnt/β-catenin signaling and apoptosis. Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in lung tumorigenesis. Among different lncRNAs, overexpression of the lncRNA actin filament‐associated protein 1‐antisense RNA 1 (AFAP1-AS1) in lung tumors has been reported in different studies. In the current study, we aimed to investigate the potential value of lncRNA AFAP1-AS1 as a diagnostic biomarker in lung cancer. Ninety samples from patients with lung cancer were collected from Noor-E-Nejat hospital, Tabriz, Iran. The expression of AFAP1-AS1 was assessed using quantitative reverse transcriptase-PCR (qRT-PCR), followed by the ROC curve analysis to investigate the biomarker potency of AFAP1-AS1. Results: Our results revealed an upregulation of AFAP1-AS1 in tumor samples as compared to the adjacent non-tumor tissues. We found a significant positive association between AFAP1-AS1 expression and tumor size, as well as tumor stage. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the additive metakaolin on the strength parameters of clayey sand soil. For this purpose, in addition to identification tests, a set of experiments including Atterberg limits and modified Proctor, uniaxial compressive strength, direct shear, permeability, and pH tests have been performed on some samples of the clayey sand soil under non-stabilized and stabilized conditions for different percentages of metakaolin. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) have been performed to investigate the microstructure of the non-stabilized and stabilized soil. The results showed that the maximum extent of increase in the strength occurred by metakaolin 25% and after 28 days of curing. Furthermore, elevation of the weight percentage of metakaolin in clayey sand soil causes to increase shear strength, diminish hydraulic conductivity, reduce the maximum specific dry weight of soil, and increase optimal water content, but it has a minor effect on pH value during the curing time. Investigation of the results obtained from XRD of the sample treated with metakaolin indicated the emergence of the cement compound called calcium silicate hydrate (CSH). Furthermore, the results of SEM imaging indicated that with the addition of metakaolin, the dispersed structure of soil changes into a flocculated structure, thereby enhances the soil strength. Objective: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short, noncoding RNAs that play vital roles in gene regulation. It has been shown that storage has an effect on platelet miRNAs. MiR-16 is highly expressed in platelets and it appears to target the genes involved in cell death. It has been shown that platelets could be stored in Composol for a longer period of time. The aim of the present study was to assess and compare the expression pattern of miR-16 in platelet concentrates (PCs) in plasma and Composol media. Materials and Methods: In an experimental study, ten PC bags were collected and each bag was divided into two separate bags, one with the 70% Composol and the other with only plasma. Both bags were stored for 7 days at 22°C and tested on days 1, 3, 5, and 7 of storage. For each sample, we performed quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The water-soluble tetrazolium salt-1 (WST-1) test was used to assess platelet viability in all of the samples. Statistical analysis was done by SPSS and REST software. A P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: miR-16 was significantly elevated during the storage days, with fold changes of 3.47 (plasma) and 2.77 (Composol). The Composol group had significantly decreased miR-16 expression compared with the plasma group. Results of the WST-1 test showed less decrease in optical density (OD) in the Composol group (0.93 ± 0.4) during the storage days compared with the plasma group (0.75 ± 0.3). Conclusion: Our finding supported results from previous studies that reported an increase in miR-16 expression during platelet storage. In addition, miR-16 down-regulation in Composol medium implied that Composol might be a good solution for long-term platelet storage because it has the potential to elevate the shelf-life of platelets stored at 22°C. Blasting operation is among the most common methods of rock excavation in the civil engineering and mining operations. Ground vibration is the most unfavorable effect of blasting operation such that failure to accurately control this problem causes damage to adjacent structures. In this regard, geotechnical engineers face the challenge of accurately predicting blastinduced ground vibrations. Geographical location of Bakhtiari Dam (located in the southwest of Iran) is needed to construct an access road to its nearest city through the rough topography. To establish the access road in the plan, blasting operation methods have been used. In this study, blast-induced ground vibrations in the study area are evaluated using five common functional forms of the empirical model and their corrected regression coefficient for the area. Then, the ground vibrations generated in the study area were predicted by designing an artificial neural network model. For this purpose, the maximum charge per delay, the distance between the blast point and monitoring stations, and the ground vibration values were surveyed for 80 blast events, and their necessary parameters were determined. A total of 64 datasets were used to obtain the coefficients of the empirical models and to create the artificial neural network model. In addition, 16 datasets were used to estimate the performance and accuracy of each model. To measure the accuracy of the constructed models, some statistical parameters were also used. The results show that in the study area, the artificial neural network model presents the most accurate and appropriate model for predicting blast-induced ground vibrations. In this paper, we examine the distribution of nuclei's charge (the quadrupole moment of nuclei) for stable nuclei with J = 1 when interacting with the 1 7 O nuclei. The interaction potential between the nuclei was achieved using the double-folding method. The wave functions of the interacting nuclei were replaced by the density functions in the double-folding model. The wave functions of the interacting nuclei were obtained through the D-dimensional Schrödinger equation with the pseudo-Coulomb potential plus ring-shaped potential by the Nikiforov–Uvarov solution method. Gastric cancer is the fifth most frequent cancer worldwide and the fourth leading cause of death from cancer, a complex multifactorial neoplasm. LncRNAs are regulatory RNA molecules larger than 200 nucleotides, which can have profound effects on the oncogenic process of various types of cancer. Therefore, these molecules can be used as diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers. This study aimed to determine the differences in BOK-AS1, FAM215A, and FEZF1-AS1 gene expression between tumor tissue and adjacent healthy non-tumor tissue of gastric cancer (GC) patients. In this study one hundred pairs of cancerous and non-cancerous marginal tissues were gathered. Next, RNA extraction and cDNA synthesis were achieved for all of the samples. Then, the qRT-PCR was performed to measure the expression of BOK-AS1, FAM215A and FEZF1-AS1 genes. All BOK-AS1, FAM215A and FEZF1-AS1 genes showed significantly increased expression in tumor tissues compared with non-tumor tissues. The outcome of the ROC analysis demonstrated that BOK-AS1, FAM215A, and FEZF1-AS1 may act as mean biomarkers with AUC of 0.7368, 0.7163 and 0.7115, specificity of 64%, 61% and 59%, and sensitivity of 74%, 70%, and 74% respectively. Based on the increased expression of the BOK-AS1, FAM215A and FEZF1-AS1 genes in GC patients, this study suggests that these genes may function as oncogenic factors. Furthermore, the mentioned genes can be considered as intermediate biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer. Abstract Aquifer strength is one of the main parameters in surface water separation facilities design. The material balance method is a common approach to calculate the aquifer strength and water influx in mature reservoirs which are in the second half of their lives. However, this method could not be used for green and newly developed reservoirs. In this type of reservoirs, the suitable vertically and laterally distance between aquifer and perforation intervals in the development wells is a main question which depends on future aquifer behavior. In this study, a methodology has been presented to estimate aquifer properties using water pressure data and also well testing data in a newly developed giant gas field in Middle East. The numerical sector model is used to match simulated water pressure data with actual MDT (Modular Dynamic Tester) data. The water relative permeability for each rock type and vertical-horizontal permeability relationship have been determined in history matching process. The tuned model can be used for the prediction of the aquifer performance and also the water production in future development wells. Fiber-metal laminates (FMLs) are advanced composite materials that consist of bonded thin metal sheets and fiber-reinforced composite layers. In this article, mechanical behavior of a thermoplastic-based FML is investigated, which is composed of glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene (GFRP) laminate and aluminum AA1200-O as the core and skin layers, respectively. Engineering constants of the composite laminate were achieved using Timoshenko's beam theory, flexural and tensile test results. Finite element simulations of the GFRP-based FML were performed to predict the behavior of this material in three-point bending and deep drawing tests. Some experimental verification tests were conducted to prove the reliability of results in the FE analysis of the FML. Oil products contaminate the soil in a variety of ways. In addition to environmental hazards, petroleum pollutants change the geotechnical characteristics of the soils. Clayey soils have complicated behavior in the presence of organic liquids. To better understand the behavior of oil-contaminated clayey soils, an experimental laboratory investigation was performed on illite clay soil which was polluted by different amounts of diesel (0 to 20% by soil dry weight). In this paper, geotechnical properties of clean and contaminated illite specimens consist of compaction characteristics, compressibility, shear strength parameters and unconfined compression strength were evaluated through compaction, consolidation, direct shear and unconfined compression tests respectively. Additionally, the effect of diesel on the microscopic properties of the illite was studied by scanning electron and atomic force microscopes. The findings of this study indicated a decline in maximum dry density and an increase in optimum fluid content in presence of diesel. The compressibility of the soil increased when it was exposed to the organic fluid. Adding diesel content reduced cohesion, internal friction angle and unconfined compressive strength of the soil. Considerable changes of the geotechnical parameters of illite soil in the presence of diesel indicate the necessity of study of the oil-contaminated clayey soils before the implementation of engineering projects. Preplaced aggregate concrete (PAC) or two-stage concrete is a specific type of concrete successfully employed in many projects including underwater concrete structures, massive concrete structures, structures made of reinforced concrete, and improvement of concrete structures. PAC is significantly different than the conventional concrete. In this type of concrete, aggregates are initially poured into the mold, the voids between which are then filled with sand and cement mortar. Additionally, the concrete provides grain-to-grain contact for the aggregates. Since use of PAC in construction projects is growing, this paper is aimed to present experimental relations for estimation of geomechanical parameters of PAC and conventional concrete. To this end, 144 and 72 specimens made of PAC and conventional concrete, respectively, were prepared, on which uniaxial compression test, Brazilian tensile test, and point load test were conducted. Then, the resulting data from the experiments were classified into two categories, namely the regression and the test data. Moreover, experimental relations were obtained between the compressive strength, tensile strength, Young’s modulus, corrected point load index, and Poisson’s ratio for both conventional concrete and PAC, and their validity were then investigated. Applying synthetic fibers is one of the most effective physical methods for soil improvement and stabilization. In this paper, we determine the effects of polypropylene (PP) and poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers contents (0.2, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%) at environment temperature (25 °C) and various freezing soil temperatures (0, −5, −10 and − 15 °C) on stabilization of the clayey sand soil (SC) samples. The results show that for both types of fibers, by simultaneous increasing of fiber content and lowering the temperature, the values of the unconfined compressive strength (UCS), elastic modulus (EM), ductility and California bearing ratio (CBR) increase, and they all reach their maximum values for 1.5% fiber content at −15 °C. Moreover, we show that PVA fibers perform better compared to PP fibers in increasing of UCS, EM, ductility and CBR values for different fiber contents and temperatures. This can be attributed to the fact that PVA has higher tensile and flexural strength compared to PP fiber. • The effect of freezing soil temperatures (FSTs) on strength parameters of a clayey sand (SC) soil stabilized by poly propylene (PP) and poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers is investigated. • For both types of PP and PVA fibers, by simultaneous increasing of fiber content and lowering the temperature (FSTs effect), the strength parameters of SC soil samples are increased. • The strength parameters of SC soil samples reinforced by PP and PVA fibers reach their maximum values for 1.5% fiber content at −15 °C. • The PVA fibers perform better compared to PP fibers in increasing of strength parameters for different fiber contents at environment temperature and FSTs. The current study presents the results of the use of the wave function of a nucleus in place of the nucleus density distribution to calculate the nucleus-nucleus interaction potential. The wave function is obtained by solving the D-dimensional wave equation using the hyperspherical formalism. The interaction potential between two nuclei is calculated using the double folding model. In this research a computational feasibility study has been done on the use of 124 SbBe photo-neutron source for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) using MCNPX Monte Carlo code. For this purpose, a special beam shaping assembly has been designed to provide an appropriate epithermal neutron beam suitable for BNCT. The final result shows that using 150 kCi of 124 Sb, the epithermal neutron flux at the designed beam exit is 0.23×10 9 (n/cm 2 s). In-phantom dose analysis indicates that treatment time for a brain tumor is about 40 min which is a reasonable time. This high activity 124 Sb could be achieved using three 50 kCi rods of 124 Sb which can be produced in a research reactor. It is clear, that as this activity is several hundred times the activity of a typical cobalt radiotherapy source, issues related to handling, safety and security must be addressed. Crocus sativus, commonly known as saffron, is a rich source of carotenoids with many health benefits. The muscular strength, pulmonary function, and reaction time are vital to the athlete's performance, and this study aimed to investigate an ergogenic effect of saffron. Twenty-eight nonactive and healthy male university students were randomly assigned into the saffron (n = 14) and control (n = 15) groups. The experimental group received dried saffron stigma (300 mg/day for 10 days) and the control group received a placebo. After one session, familiarization with the tests, anthropometric parameters, visual and audio reaction times, and the maximum isometric and isotonic forces on a leg press machine were measured accordingly, 1 day before and after the supplementation period. This study shows that 10 days of supplementation with saffron significantly increased (10.1%) the isometric force (p <.0001; effect size (EF) = 0.432) and increased 6.1% the isotonic force (p <.0001; effect size = 0.662), as well as effecting faster visual (p <.05; EF = 0.217) and audio (p <.05; EF = 0.214) reaction times. The ergogenic effect of saffron (increase in the forces) may contribute to increase in the muscle mitochondrial biogenesis and positive effect on the motor cortex, both of which may explain faster audio and visual reaction times. In the presence of spin and pseudospin (p-spin) symmetries, the approximate analytical bound states of the Dirac equation, which describes the motion of a spin-1/2 particle in 1+1 dimensions for mixed scalar-vector-pseudoscalar linear potential are investigated. Tanguyeh dam, an embankment dam with a clay core, located in southeastern Iran, is the main hydraulic structure in Kerman Province. The study area, as one of the most active tectonic zones of Iran, is covered by coloured melange and pyroclastic rocks of different lithologies. In this study, we take into account the engineering geological properties of rock masses such as discontinuities, the degree of weathering, the hydraulic conductivity along the dam axis, and ancillary structures in order to determine likely problems and necessary precautions. The significance of this study lies in the complex geological conditions and existence of a heterogeneous rocky knob along the dam axis. For this purpose, field studies such as production of an engineering geological map, study of discontinuities, permeability tests of Lugeon and rock quality designations,and sampling of recovery cores for laboratory tests are implemented. Application of fibers in addition to chemical stabilizers can be effective to increase the ductility and tensile strength of improved soils and delay the rupture process. Basalt fibers, which are of natural origin and have very high resistance in acidic, alkaline, and saline environments, are considered as suitable options for reinforcement of alkali-activated mortars. In the present study, the improvement of a type of clay has been examined using basalt fibers and the alkali-activated mortar. To investigate the strength parameters of the improved clay soil, a combination of basalt fibers and alkali-activated mortar (Clay improved with 3% wollastonite and 16% potassium hydroxide alkaline solution) was prepared and was then subjected to uniaxial compressive strength and indirect tensile strength tests after curing times of 7, 14, 28 and 90 days. Also, electron microscope images (SEM) and EDX analyses were performed on the samples to interpret the results. The results showed that in samples improved with alkali-activated mortars, the formation of calcium silicate hydrate(C-S-H) and calcium aluminosilicate hydrate (C-A-S-H) gels and their polymerization after the curing time increased the compressive and tensile strengths. In the samples improved with alkali-activated mortars reinforced with basalt fibers, the ductility of the samples also increased in addition to the increase in the compressive and tensile strengths as the gels formed were interlocked among the fibers. Objective: Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) often occurs after unaccustomed eccentric exercise and reduces exercise performance. We aimed to study the preventive effects of saffron and indomethacin on the biochemical and functional indicators of DOMS after 1-session eccentric exercise. Design: A 10-day, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pretest–posttest design. Setting: Controlled research laboratory. Participants: Thirty-nine nonactive male university students randomly divided into saffron (n = 12), indomethacin (n = 12), and control (n = 15) groups. Interventions: Saffron group received 1 capsule containing dried saffron powder (n = 12, 300 mg/d), indomethacin group received 75 mg indomethacin (n = 12, 25 mg thrice a day), and control group (n = 15) received placebo capsules, 1 week before and 3 days after eccentric exercise. Ten days before and 24, 48, and 72 hours after muscle soreness protocol, the maximum isometric and isotonic forces, plasma creatine kinase (CK), plasma lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), perceived pain, knee range of movement, and thigh circumference were measured. Muscle soreness protocol was performed with a weight load equal to 80% of the maximum isotonic force in 4 sessions with 20 repetitions and 3-minute rest in between. Main Outcome Measures: This study shows that 10-day supplementation with 300 mg saffron significantly decreased the CK and LDH concentrations (P < 0.0001). In the saffron group, there was no decline in maximum isometric and isotonic forces after eccentric exercise, but a significant decline in the isometric force was observed in the control group (P < 0.0001). No pain was reported in the saffron group, whereas the indomethacin group experienced pain before 72 hours (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Results obtained from the current novel research indicate a strong preventive effect of 10-day supplementation with saffron on the DOMS. In this work, we study single, double and triple heavy-flavor baryons using the hypercentral approach in the framework of the non-relativistic quark model. Considering two different confining potentials and an improved form of the hyperfine interaction, we calculate the ground-state masses of heavy baryons and also the ground-state magnetic moments of single charm and beauty baryons with JP = 3/2+. Osteosarcoma is the most frequent type of bone cancer found in children and adolescents, and commonly arises in the metaphyseal region of tubular long bones. Standard therapeutic approaches, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, are used in the management of osteosarcoma. In recent years, the mortality rate of osteosarcoma has decreased due to advances in treatment methods. Today, the scientific community is investigating the use of different naturally derived active principles against various types of cancer. Natural bioactive compounds can function against cancer cells in two ways. Firstly they can act as classical cytotoxic compounds by non-specifically affecting macromolecules, such as DNA, enzymes, and microtubules, which are also expressed in normal proliferating cells, but to a greater extent by cancer cells. Secondly, they can act against oncogenic signal transduction pathways, many of which are activated in cancer cells. Some bioactive plant-derived agents are gaining increasing attention because of their anti-cancer properties. Moreover, some naturally-derived compounds can significantly promote the effectiveness of standard chemotherapy drugs, and in certain cases are able to ameliorate drug-induced adverse effects caused by chemotherapy. There are various methods for improving the engineering properties of weak soils among which the usage of chemical additives is one of the most important ones. Considering sepiolite as an environmental friendly material and its unique physiochemical characteristics, this substance has been used as an additive for soil improvement in this study. For this purpose, in addition to soil identification tests, in order to examine the effect of changes in the percentage of sepiolite additive, a set of tests has been done including Atterberg limits, modified compaction, uniaxial compressive strength, pH, direct shear and permeability test on sandy clay and clayey sand soils. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) tests have been performed to investigate the microstructure of non-stabilized and stabilized soil. According to the results, with increasing the additive percentage and the curing time, the uniaxial compressive strength of the soil increased. The uniaxial strength in the clayey sand soil rose up to six times larger than that of the initial strength of the soil. However, the maximum strength enhancement in the sandy clay soil was up to three times the initial value. Sepiolite (above 5%) has improved soil shear strength parameters including cohesion and internal friction angle. The increase in the additive content led to diminished permeability in soil. Further, the elevation of the sepiolite content in the soil resulted in enhanced liquid and plastic limits of soil. Microstructural investigations indicated that the reason of improvement in strength parameters of soil was the incidence of chemical reactions including ion exchange, flocculation and production of calcium-silicate-hydrate (CSH) and calcium-aluminate-hydrate (CAH) gels. Further, sepiolite fiber resulted in enhanced strength by filling the pores and void spaces of soil. • Sepiolite is an environmentally friendly material to stabilize the soils. • Increasing the sepiolite content during the curing time, increases UCS of the soil. • Sepiolite fibers act like bridges and connect different parts of soil. • CSH and CAH are products of chemical reactions between sepiolite and soil. Abstract: Understanding where seismically induced landslides are most likely to occur is crucial in land use planning and civil protection actions aimed at reducing property damage and loss of life in future earthquakes. For this purpose an approach proposed by Del Gaudio et al. [1] has been applied to the whole Iranian territory to provide the basis to assess location and temporal recurrence of conditions of seismic activation of slope failures, according to the Newmark''s model [2]. Following this approach, occurrence probabilities for different levels of seismic shaking in a time interval of interest (50 years) were first obtained through a standard hazard estimate procedure. Then, empirical formulae in the form proposed by Jibson et al. [3] and calibrated for the main seismogenic Iranian regions were used to evaluate the slope critical acceleration (Ac) x for which a prefixed probability exists that, under seismic shakings, Newmark''s displacement D N exceeds a threshold×corresponding to landslide triggering conditions. The obtained (Ac) x values represent the minimum slope resistance required to limit the probability of landslide seismic triggering within the prefixed value. A map reporting the spatial distribution of these values gives comparative indications on regional different exposure of slopes to shaking capable of inducing failures and provides a reference for hazard estimate at local scale. The obtained results show that the exposure to landslide seismic induction is maximum in the Alborz Mountains region, where critical accelerations up to ∼0.1g are required to limit the probability of seismic triggering of coherent type landslides within 10% in 50 years. In this work, the three dimensional Woods-Saxon potential is studied within the context of Supersymmetry Quantum Mechanics. We have applied the SUSY method by using the Pekeris approximation to the centrifugal potential l ≠ 0 states. By application of this method, it is possible to solve the Schrödinger equation for this potential. We obtain exactly bound state spectrum and wave function of Woods-Saxon potential for nonzero angular momentum. In this work, we study the spin and flavor dependent SU(6) violations in the strange and nonstrange baryons spectrum using a simple approach based on the Gürsey Radicati mass formula (GR). The average energy value of each SU(6) multiplet is described using the SU(6) invariant interaction given by a hypercentral potential. In this paper the hypercentral potential is regarded as a combination of the Coulombic-like term plus a linear confining term and we have added the harmonic oscillator potential. In fact, we have built up a potential scheme for the internal baryon structure which has three-body forces among three quarks. The results of our model (the combination of our proposed hypercentral Potential and generalized GR mass formula to description of the spectrum) show that the strange and nonstrange baryons spectrum are, in general, fairly well reproduced. The overall good description of the spectrum which we obtain shows that our model can also be used to give a fair description of the energies of the excited multiplets at least up to 2 GeV and negative-parity resonance. Abstract: Arias intensity is considered as a shaking parameter suitable for characterizing earthquake impact on ground stability. Within the framework of a study aimed at providing tools for the assessment of hazards related to earthquake-induced slope failures, Arias intensity attenuation relations were determined for the Zagros Mountains region, an active tectonic belt elongated NW–SE in the western and south-western part of Iran. The calculation of relation coefficients was based on strong-motion data of earthquakes located in the Zagros area and recorded by Iranian stations managed by the Building and Housing Research Center of Iran (BHRC). Five models of attenuation relation were considered and their coefficients were estimated through a least-square regression analysis. The relations obtained were then applied to a data sample different from that used for regression and the root mean square (RMS) of residuals was examined in order to compare effectiveness of different relations in probabilistic estimates. Furthermore a comparison made with attenuation relations obtained for Alborz and the central part of Iran showed significant differences possibly related to structural differences. The static properties of protons are useful for understanding the quark structure of the proton. In his work we have introduced the hypercentral constituent quark model and isospin dependent potentials. Here constituent quarks interact with each other via a potential in which we have taken into account the three-body force effect and the standard two-body potential contributions. According to our model the static properties of protons containing u and d quarks are better than the other models and closer to experimental results. The two key ingredients of this improvement are the effective quark–gluon hypercentral potentials, and hyperfine interaction and isospin dependence potential. Recently, Schrödinger equation has been solved by Giannini but we have solved the Dirac equation exact analytically and we have shown that a considerable improvement in the description of the static properties of proton is obtained with an isospin dependent potential and the complete interaction including spin and isospin terms reproduces the position of the quark. L5095 --> Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the second most common malignancy worldwide. Angiogenesis plays a significant role during tumor formation and progression. ADGRL4, as a modulator of angiogenesis, undergoes various epigenetic modifications affecting its biological functions. Here, we aimed to assess ADGRL4 promoter methylation and its expression level in breast tumors and to examine the effect of melatonin on ADGRL4 expression and promoter methylation in vitro. Materials and methods: Fifty breast tumor and corresponding adjacent non‐tumor tissue samples were collected, followed by DNA isolation, bisulfite conversion, qRT‐PCR, qMSP assay and immunoblotting. Then, the effect of melatonin on the ADGRL4 expression and promoter methylation was investigated in two BC cell lines (MCF‐7 and MDA‐MB‐231). Apoptosis assay was performed using annexin v and flow cytometry. Results: ADGRL4 was overexpressed in tumors in comparison with normal tissue samples (p<0.0001). We found a significant correlation between ADGRL4 expression level and increased HER2 expression (p=0.021). We observed a significant decrease in ADGRL4 promoter methylation level in tumors as compared to marginal non‐tumor samples (p<0.0001). Melatonin treatment significantly attenuated ADGRL4 expression (p<0.0001) and elevated promoter methylation (p<0.001) in MCF‐7 cells, but not in MDA‐MB‐231 cell line. However, melatonin treatment induced apoptosis in both cell lines. Conclusion: ADGRL4 was overexpressed and its promotor was hypomethylated in breast tumors. • Zinc oxide nanoparticles used as a stabilizer to increase the effect of lime. • The strength of the lime-stabilized soil increased up to a lime content of 6%. • An optimum nano-ZnO content of 1.5% obtained for all three tests. • The increase in the shear strength relates to the cementation and cohesion. • By increasing the curing time, the strength increases indicating enhancement in the formation of CSH over time. The present study investigated the effect of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles on the geotechnical properties of lime-stabilized silty clay soil using uniaxial compressive strength, direct shear and Californian bearing ratio tests as well as scanning electron microscopy of the improved microstructure of the specimens. The optimum lime content of 6% increased the strength of the soil specimens. Tests on the specimens cured for 7 days showed that their strength increased with an increase in the soil cohesion and cement bonds. The ultimate strength was recorded at the optimum nano-ZnO content of 1.5. The nano-ZnO acted as a filler in the lime and ZnO-stabilized specimens, causing formation of smaller crystals and increasing reactivity, which increased the strength of the soil specimens. This paper presents a new beta converter cell based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/Si heterojunction suitable for betavoltaic batteries. The potential barrier created in the rGO/Si interface induces an internal electric field in the Si substrate. This internal electric field can be used for separating the beta-generated electron-hole pairs in Si. Ni63, with the activity of 5mci is used as the beta radioisotope source. The current-voltage characteristic of the cell is measured with and without radioisotope radiations. The circuit model of the junction is also presented. The cell shows an open circuit voltage of 34 mV, a short circuit current of 0.41 μA/cm2, and high conversion efficiency of 3.9% under exposure of beta radioisotope Ni63. Objective: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a progressing neurodegenerative disease marked by chronic central nervous system inflammation and degeneration.This study investigates gene expression profiles of T-box transcription factor TBX21 (T-bet), interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), and long non-coding RNA MEG3 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from treatment-naïve Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis patients (RRMS), healthy controls, and RRMS patients on different Disease Modifying Therapies (DMTs). The aim is to understand the role of T-bet, IFN-γ, and MEG3 in MS pathogenesis and their potential as diagnostic and therapeutic targets. Results: Elevated T-bet expression is observed in treatment-naïve RRMS patients compared to healthy individuals. RRMS patients treated with Interferon beta-1alpha (IFNβ-1a) and fingolimod exhibit downregulated T-bet and MEG3 expression levels, respectively, with more pronounced effects in females. Healthy individuals show a moderate positive correlation between T-bet and MEG3 and between IFN-γ and T-bet. In RRMS patients treated with Glatiramer Acetate (GA), a strong positive correlation is observed between MEG3 and IFN-γ. Remarkably, RRMS patients treated with Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) exhibit a significant positive correlation between T-bet and MEG3. These findings underscore the diagnostic potential of T-bet in RRMS, warranting further exploration of MEG3, T-bet, and IFN-γ interplay in RRMS patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We provide body measurements of snow leopards collected from 55 individuals sampled in five of the major mountain ranges within the species distribution range; the Altai, Hindu Kush, Himalayas, Pamirs and Tien Shan mountains. Snow leopards appear to be similarly sized across their distribution range with mean body masses of 36 kg and 42 kg for adult females and adult males, respectively. In contrast to other large felids, we found little variation in body size and body mass between the sexes; adult males were on average 5% longer and 15% heavier than adult females. lncRNAs play a crucial role in the carcinogenesis process. Thus, they have been recognized as the potential therapeutic and diagnostic biomarkers of cancers. This study assessed the alteration in the expression of APOC1P1-3 lncRNA in cancerous tissues compared to their adjacent non-tumorous tissues sampled from cervical cancer patients. one hundred fifteen pairs of cancerous and adjacent non-cancerous biopsy of cervical cancer specimens were collected. RNA isolation and cDNA synthesis were carried out. The qRT-PCR was used to assess the changes in the expression of APOC1P1-3 lncRNA. Moreover, the biomarker function of the lncRNA and the correlations between APOC1P1-3 and clinicopathological parameters were measured. The APOC1P1-3 expression was significantly increased in cervical cancer specimens as compared to adjacent non-tumorous specimens (p < 0.0001). A significant association was also observed between APOC1P1-3 expression and lymph node involvement (p = 0.031). Additionally, APOC1P1-3 expression demonstrated a significant association with the depth of tumor invasion (p = 0.035), and squamous type of cervical cancer (p = 0.019). The overexpression of APOC1P1-3 was significantly observed in patients younger than 50 years old as compared to another age group (p = 0.033). The results of ROC curve exhibited that APOC1P1-3 with area under the curve (AUC), specificity, and sensitivity of 0.96, 93.91%, and 78.26%, respectively can be considered as a potential biomarker. Regarding overexpression of APOC1P1-3 in human cervical cancer samples, this lncRNA may be considered as an oncogenic factor in cervical cancer patients. Adhesion between metal surfaces and soil can have significant effects on soil-tool interaction. The cone pull-out test (CPT) and piston pull-out test (PPT) for adhesion assessment were used in this study on smectite, illite and kaolinite clays at different water contents. In the CPT, the tangential adhesion stress (TAS) and cone adhesion (CA) were measured. In the PPT, the normal adhesion stress (NAS) and piston adhesion (PA) were measured. The results showed that the NAS and TAS depended on the type of clay. The ratios of NAS to TAS for smectite and kaolinite had the largest and smallest values, respectively. For all three types, NAS and TAS decreased as the water content (W) decreased. An increase in the thickness of the water film at the soil-metal contact surface reduced the stress required to separate the metal from the soil. The relationship between CA-W and PA-W for the three clay types differed. For smectite, a change in water content had no effect on CA or PA. For illite, an increase in water content decreased the CA and PA. For kaolinite, a bell-shaped curve formed such that, as water content increased, where WLL, CA and PA decreased. For all three clay soil types, NAS and PA were higher than TAS and CA at a specific water content. This demonstrated the effect of the metal-to-soil contact geometry on the adhesion parameters. The NAS and TAS values were classified in terms of clogging potential. Clogging potential is the adhesion of soil to the cutting tools or conveying system. When plastic objects in our surroundings are degraded, they may produce particles ranging in size from 1 to 100 nm therefore called nanoplastics. The environmental chemicals including nanoplastics may be able to affect biological processes in the nuclear level like altering DNA methylation and regulating microRNAs (miRNAs) as well as long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) expression and therefore are implicated in chronic human diseases like neoplasms. The regulatory role of miRNAs and lncRNAs in gene expression is appreciated. In vitro as well as in vivo experiments have shown that environmental elements including nanoplastics are able to dysregulate miRNAs and lncRNAs expression with possible genetic consequences that increase the risk of cancer development. In recent years, several workers have found numerous cases of sites characterised by significant azimuthal variation of dynamic response to seismic shaking. The causes of this phenomenon are still unclear, but are possibly related to combinations of geological and geomorphological factors determining a polarisation of resonance effects. To improve their comprehension, it would be desirable to extend the database of observations on this phenomenon. Thus, considering that unrevealed cases of site response directivity can be 'hidden' among the sites of accelerometer networks, we developed a two-stage approach of data mining from existing strong motion databases to identify sites affected by directional amplification. The proposed procedure first calculates Arias Intensity tensor components from accelerometer recordings of each site to determine mean directional variations of total shaking energy. Then, at the sites where a significant anisotropy appears in ground motion, azimuthal variations of HVSR values (spectral ratios between horizontal and vertical components of recordings) are analysed to confirm the occurrence of site resonance conditions. We applied this technique to a database of recordings acquired by accelerometer stations in the Iranian area. The results of this investigation pointed out some sites affected by directional resonance that appear to be correlated to the orientation of local tectonic lineaments, these being mostly transversal to the direction of maximum shaking. Comparing Arias Intensities observed at these sites with theoretical estimates provided by ground motion prediction equations, the presence of significant site amplifications was confirmed. The magnitude of the amplification factors appear to be correlated to the results of HVSR analysis, even though the pattern of dispersion of HVSR values suggests that while high peak values of spectral ratios are indicative of strong amplifications, lower values do not necessarily imply lower amplification factors. Background Infraorbital skin hyperpigmentation, commonly called dark circles, and crow's feet wrinkles are common cosmetic concerns. Various methods of treatment have been evaluated with variable outcomes. Objective This study was performed to assess the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma ( PRP) injection for treating periorbital dark circles and crow's feet. Methods Ten participants with a mean age of 41.2 years were treated in a single session with intradermal injections of 1.5 mL PRP into tear trough area and crow's feet wrinkles on each side. The effects on melanin content, color homogeneity of the treated area, epidermal stratum corneum hydration, and wrinkle volume and visibility index were compared 3 months after treatment with baseline. Physician's global assessment and participants' satisfaction and any potential side effects were also assessed. Results The improvement in infraorbital color homogeneity was statistically significant ( P = 0.010), but no statistically significant changes were observed in melanin content, stratum corneum hydration, wrinkle volume, and visibility index. Participant's satisfaction score and physician's global assessment score were 2.2 and 1.7, respectively, on a 0-3 scale. Conclusion Platelet-rich plasma may have the potential to improve infraorbital dark circle in terms of color homogeneity of the region, though this remains to be proven using larger, controlled studies using multiple injections. Gastrointestinal (GI) carcinomas are a group of cancers affecting the GI tract and digestive organs, such as the gastric, liver, bile ducts, pancreas, small intestine, esophagus, colon, and rectum. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small functional non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) which are involved in regulating the expression of multiple target genes; mainly at the post-transcriptional level, via complementary binding to their 3′‐untranslated region (3′‐UTR). Increasing evidence has shown that miRNAs have critical roles in modulating of various physiological and pathological cellular processes and regulating the occurrence and development of human malignancies. Among them, miR-145 is recognized for its anti-oncogenic properties in various cancers, including GI cancers. MiR-145 has been implicated in diverse biological processes of cancers through the regulation of target genes or signaling, including, proliferation, differentiation, tumorigenesis, angiogenesis, apoptosis, metastasis, and therapy resistance. In this review, we have summarized the role of miR-145 in selected GI cancers and also its downstream molecules and cellular processes targets, which could lead to a better understanding of the miR-145 in these cancers. In conclusion, we reveal the potential diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic value of miR-145 in GI cancer, and hope to provide new ideas for its application as a biomarker as well as a therapeutic target for the treatment of these cancer.
