Background: Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA)is a cause of persisting arthralgia which is often missed. Diagnosing sJIA can be challenging, especially when overt arthritis is absent at presentation, highlighting the need for a diagnostic biomarker. Few recent studies have assessed potential biomarkers for sJIA, however, there is no consensus in detecting early. We conducted a study evaluating serum IL-1, IL-6, IL-18, S100A8, and S100A9 as potential diagnostic markers to distinguish sJIA from other conditions presenting as joint pain in children. Methods: A prospective study was conducted in our institute from May-2019 to October-2020 in children under 16 years, who had persisting arthralgia. Serum concentrations of IL-1, IL-6, IL-18, S100A9, and S100A8 were determined using ELISA kits. Receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis was used to determine the cut-off values for IL-1, IL-6, IL-18, S100A8, and S100A9 for differentiating sJIA from other causes of joint pain and fever. Results- Out of 47 children who presented with joint pain and fever 19 of them were eventually diagnosed with sJIA. In the other 28 children, arthralgia and fever was attributed to conditions other than sJIA (non-sJIA). The non-sJIA group comprised children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, hemophagocytic histiocytosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Kawasaki disease, Kikuchi disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. Serum levels of IL-18, S100A8, and S100A9 were significantly higher in patients with sJIA compared to the non-sJIA group (p 2030.45 pg/ml was useful for differentiating between sJIA and other diseases with a sensitivity of 66.67% and specificity of 75.86% for the diagnosis of sJIA. Conclusion- Serum IL-18, S100A8, and S100A9 can be useful in differentiating sJIA early from other causes of persisting arthralgia in children provided with appropriate identification of symptomatology and suspicion.

Background: The treatment of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury includes ACL reconstruction (ACL-R) or ligament preservation, where the former is considered the gold standard. But in meniscal injury, though commonly followed is menisectomy, meniscal repair has gained popularity and success which necessitates the analysis of outcome between ACL-R + meniscal repair and ACL-R + menisectomy as clear consensus have not been established so far in deciding the better overall procedure with respect to function. Methods: This is a prospective, comparative study done in 122 patients with ACL injury and medial/ lateral meniscus in south Indian population at a single center. Where meniscal repair (61) and menisectomy (partial/complete, n=61) with ACL-R were carried out and were evaluated pre-operatively, during the postoperative period at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months of follow-up for function and compared. The primary outcome evaluated was pain and other symptoms like limping, giving way, swelling and locking were also noted and analysed using KOOS, IKDC and Lysholm scores. Results: The mean difference in KOOS score in postoperative period, at 3 and 6months were significantly higher among the ACL-R + meniscal repair group than the ACL-R + meniscectomy group which is statistically significant. Moreover the median percentage change in IKDC and Lysholm scores from baseline to postoperative 3 and 6 months were significantly higher in ACL-R + meniscal repair group than the other. Conclusion: The meniscal repair with ACL-R has a lower failure rate and shows better functional outcomes than the other group which underwent ACL-R and meniscectomy.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of fiber-rich vegetables on the quality characteristics of poultry slaughterhouse byproducts incorporated in pet food. Poultry byproducts incorporated in pet food were treated with different fiber-rich vegetables, viz. carrot and French beans powder separately at three suitable concentrations i.e. 5%, 10%, and 15% replacing freshly grated cruciferous vegetables and baked in a hot air oven at 1500 C for 20-25 minutes. Introduction: Epilepsy is a condition of the brain that causes seizures and affects a significant portion of the global population, and current treatments often have limited efficacy and undesirable side effects. Throughout history, people have utilized garlic for its medicinal properties to address diverse health concerns. Allicin is a major component of garlic. We conducted an experiment to evaluate the antiepileptic properties of an ethanolic extract of garlic (EEG) with 3.25% allicin content using acute epilepsy models. Methods: For our experiment, we employed 72 Swiss albino mice, which were divided into six separate groups. Chemo-convulsant PTZ and strychnine HCL were used to induce epileptic activity in the mice, and the standard used was diazepam (5 mg/kg p.o.). Our study evaluated the effectiveness of an ethanolic garlic extract (EEG) with the same potency as allicin at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg (p.o.). on epileptic activity was assessed using a variety of parameters. The GABA level of mice brains was also estimated. Results: The allicin treatment led to a notable decrease in the duration and increase in the latency of seizures that were induced by PTZ and strychnine. The extract also showed a significant decrease in the mortality rate. Test allicin intervention restored brain GABA levels in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion: Our study indicates that the EEG containing 3.25% allicin has the potential as an antiepileptic agent, possibly due to its modulation of the GABAergic neurotransmitter systems.

Background: Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is known for its synthesis of allicin, a defense molecule that exhibits various biological activities. Traditional medicine has utilized garlic to alleviate multiple ailments due to its broad spectrum of effects. Objective: This study aimed to review the ethnomedicinal potentials and pharmacological activities of allicin, the active constituent of garlic. Method: A comprehensive review was conducted to analyze in vitro and in vivo studies on allicin. The focus was on investigating its diverse pharmacological properties, including neuroprotection, anti-alzheimer, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antioxidant, cardio protective, antidiabetic, and hepatoprotection activity. Results: The review revealed that allicin possesses a range of pharmacological activities. It showed neuroprotective effects, exhibited anti-inflammatory properties, demonstrated anticancer activity, acted as an antioxidant, provided cardioprotection, exerted antidiabetic effects, and offered hepatoprotection. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that allicin holds great potential for pharmaceutical industries in developing therapeutic products. However, to ensure the safe and effective use of allicin for treating various diseases, further research is necessary. Human clinical trials and quality control studies are essential to establish appropriate doses for pharmaceutical applications.

In India, the demand for fruits and vegetables has been consistently increasing alongside the rising population, making crop production a crucial aspect of agriculture. However, despite the growing demand and potential profitability, farmers have been slow to transition from traditional food grain crops to fruits and vegetables. In this paper, we explore the changing demands of food categories in India, highlighting the shift towards increased consumption of fruits and vegetables. Despite the potential benefits, farmers face various challenges and uncertainties associated with cultivating these crops. To address this, we propose the use of Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques to analyze historical market price data for fruits and vegetables from 2016 to 2021 and predict future prices.
