Abstract

Over the years I have seen several ideas for incorporating the game of football into the mathematics classroom (Karau 1956, Fennell 1970, and Demchik 1973), but I have never seen one that combines the excitement and strategy of a football game and mathematics as effectively as the one I received as a game idea from one of my preservice students. Since the cards controlling movement on the “football field” are independent of the problem cards, the game can be used to practice any desired mathematical concept.
