Abstract

Conjugated organic single crystals play a pivotal role as donor-acceptor molecules, showcasing nonlinear optical properties due to their unique molecular structure. In the present study, a novel functionalised allylidene malononitrile derivative, (Z)-2-(3-chloro-3-(4-chlorophenyl)allylidene)malononitrile, was synthesised and subjected to various spectroscopic and structural analyses for its optical and structural characterisation. This compound serves as an essential building block in developing photonic and optoelectronic materials. We synthesised the compound through a Vilsmeier-Haack reaction followed by a Knoevenagel condensation reaction and crystallised it using a slow evaporation method. In addition to SCXRD, the structural analysis of the compound was performed using NMR (1H, 13C), mass spectroscopy and FT-IR spectroscopy. The Intermolecular interactions were studied using Hirshfeld surfaces. The optical properties were analysed using UV–visible and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The third-order nonlinearity of the grown crystal was estimated using the NLO coefficients via the widely recognised femtosecond Z-scan technique, equipped with Ti:sapphire-based laser oscillator using laser pulses of 90 fs and a wavelength of 500 nm at various incident powers. It was observed that with increasing laser power, the nonlinear absorption coefficient of the sample also increased. These findings, combined with the calculation of the nonlinear refractive index, conclusively establish the potential of (Z)-2-(3-chloro-3-(4-chlorophenyl)allylidene)malononitrile for optoelectronic applications.

Abstract

We propose a neural network-based approach to automatically learn and classify natural language questions into its corresponding template using recursive neural networks. An obvious advantage of using neural networks is the elimination of the need for laborious feature engineering that can be cumbersome and error-prone. The input question is encoded into a vector representation. The model is trained and evaluated on the LC-QuAD dataset (Large-scale Complex Question Answering Dataset). The LC-QuAD queries are annotated based on 38 unique templates that the model attempts to classify. The resulting model is evaluated against both the LC-QuAD dataset and the 7th Question Answering Over Linked Data (QALD-7) dataset. The recursive neural network achieves template classification accuracy of 0.828 on the LC-QuAD dataset and an accuracy of 0.618 on the QALD-7 dataset. When the top-2 most likely templates were considered the model achieves an accuracy of 0.945 on the LC-QuAD dataset and 0.786 on the QALD-7 dataset. After slot filling, the overall system achieves a macro F-score 0.419 on the LC-QuAD dataset and a macro F-score of 0.417 on the QALD-7 dataset.

Abstract

By using the conventional melt quenching method, PbO−Al2O3−Bi2O3−P2O5 glasses doped with varying concentration of CoO were prepared and characterized. The optical absorption spectra of the glasses exhibited two principal absorption bands, one at 572 nm and the second one consisting of multiplets with the meta centre around1487 nm ascribed to the tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions. Besides these, the spectra also exhibited two feeble bands around 532 and 633 nm which are the characteristics of octahedral coordinated Co2+ and Co3+ ions respectively. Photoluminescence spectra of the titled glasses have exhibited two emission bands at 640 and 868 nm due to tetrahedral Co2+ ions. FTIR spectra of the samples exhibited various vibrational bands due to phosphate, bismuth, PbO4, PbO6, AlO6, AlO4 and CoIII-O vibrational units. The studies on the titled glasses have revealed that tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions are found to increase as the content of CoO is gradually increased up to 0.8 mol%. As a result the degree of depolymerization of the glass network decreases which in turn enhances its rigidity with increasing the concentration of CoO upto 0.8mol%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This paper describes an idea of a simple analytical microfluidics device that is used to infer levels of potassium concentration in a sample. The project is based on a paper-based device with capable barriers and a 50 mm microchannel which is subjected to wick the solution containing potassium salts. The wicking rate and the wicking time is calculated. The barrier is made out of cheap processes by using paraffin wax which is heated to 70 oC for about 10 minutes and then carefully applied and infused into the filter paper for required length. Various simulations are carried out and studies were analysed by using COMSOL Multiphysics to understand the wicking phenomenon and the impact of filter paper parameters such as porosity, pore size and pore distribution index on wicking rate. The dimensions of the microstrip is inferred from the simulation results and the designed strip is tested with KOH solution of closely varying concentrations. A common time is set and the wicking rate and fluid uptake is observed. It is realised that the output shows that wicking rate is inversely proportional to the concentration of solution. Abstract

This paper presents the cost optimization of a reinforced concrete abutment of a cantilever type using a genetic algorithm (GA). During the optimization process, six design variables, including two geometrical design variables and four cross-sectional design variables, were considered. The objective function consists of the cost of steel, concrete, and labor. Computation programs have been developed in JAVA to find an economical design adhering to Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards. To get an optimal solution in reasonable computational time, an attempt is carried out to evaluate the optimal GA parameters for the abutment model. A parametric study was conducted to understand the effect of the angle of friction, grade of concrete, and height on the cost optimization of the abutment. From the parametric study, it is observed that optimum cost of the abutment is obtained with a higher value of the angle of friction and concrete with a lower compressive strength. The results of the optimization are further discussed in detail. Key words: abutment, cost optimization, genetic algorithm, population size, generation size Cet article presente l'optimisation des couts d'une culee en beton arme (BA) de type cantilever, et ce, a l'aide d'un algorithme genetique (AG). Au cours du processus d'optimisation, six variables de conception, dont deux variables de conception geometrique et quatre variables de conception en coupe transversale, ont ete prises en compte. La fonction d'objectifs se compose du cout de l'acier, du beton et de la main-d'oeuvre. Des programmes de calcul ont ete developpes en JAVA pour trouver une conception economique conforme aux normes de l'<< Indian Road Congress >> (IRC). Dans le but d'obtenir une solution optimale dans un temps de calcul raisonnable, on tente d'evaluer les parametres d'AG optimaux pour le modele de culee. Une etude parametrique a ete menee pour comprendre l'effet de l'angle de frottement, de la qualite de beton et de la hauteur sur l'optimisation des couts de culee. L'etude parametrique a permis d'observer que le cout optimal de culee est obtenu avec une valeur plus elevee de l'angle de frottement et un beton avec une resistance a la compression inferieure.
