Objective: The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the expression of nuclear orphan receptors in the development of Uterine Cervical Cancer (UCC). The principal cause of dysplastic changes in cervical epithelium is the presence of the human papilloma virus leading to the development of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia I (CIN I), high-grade lesions (CIN II and CIN III) and, finally, invasive cancer. Despite the existence of various treatments and vaccines, there is still a high mortality rate. There is evidence of the participation of a group of nuclear receptors called orphans in the development of various diseases, including cancer. Study design: The expression levels of the orphan receptors NR4A1, NR4A2, and NR4A3 were measured using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in samples obtained through colposcopy from forty-five patients who attended the Medical Oncology Specialties Unit (UNEME) in Mexicali, B.C. Results: Forty-five cervical biopsy results were obtained, indicating cervicitis, CIN I, or CIN III, none of them CIN II. Our results showed that orphan receptors expressed in a specific manner depending on the degree of premalignant lesions. NR4A1 overexpressed in cervicitis (p 0.05). Conclusion: Our data suggest, for the first time, that nuclear receptors might be involved in the various stages that precede the development of invasive UCC.

Mytilinidioid fungi are conchiform in nature, with the appearance of bivalve shells or wedge-shaped, rigid, brittle, and carbonaceous hysterothecia growing on the bark of gymnosperms or angiosperms. Based on their morphological characteristics and molecular markers (ITS and LSU), this study describes three new species of mytilinidioid fungi: Ericboehmia mexicana of the family Hysteriaceae of the order Hysteriales and Lophium pinicola and Mytilinidion mexicanum of the family Mytilinidiaceae of the order Mytilinidiales. The first species grows on Liquidambar styracyphlua, the second species grows on Pinus patula, and the third species grows on Acacia californica subsp. pringlei. The specimens studied were deposited in the ENCB Herbarium.

This paper aims to improve the aqueous stability and electrochemical activity of HKUST-1 (or Cu3(BTC)2, BTC = benzene 1,3,5-tricarboxylate; and HKUST from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) by the incorporation of Graphene Oxide (GO). The synthesis was carried out in two steps; first, CuII ions were pre-adsorbed on the surface of GO, and then the BTC organic linker was added to form the HKUST-1 structure dispersed on GO sheets. Two concentrations of copper were used in the synthesis, 3.57 and 14.27 mmol, to obtain the samples: GO@HKUST-1low and GO@HKUST-1high, respectively. N2 adsorption properties of GO@HKUST-1high suggest an increase in surface area compared to HKUST-1 up to 1082.0 m2·g−1. In addition, the CO2 capture of GO@HKUST-1high increased from 5.34 (HKUST-1) to 6.92 mmol·g−1 at 273 K and 100 kPa. This improvement is associated with the dispersion of the HKUST-1 on the GO sheets achieved through the synthesis strategy used, which also increased the surface area, H2O adsorption capacity of the composite material, and electrochemical stability. After the H2O adsorption tests, XRD confirmed that the material was stable under aqueous conditions, showing that the material did not undergo any structural modification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer represents about 80% of cases, tamoxifen is the election neoadjuvant chemotherapy. However, a large percentage of patients develop chemoresistance, compromising recovery. Clinical evidence suggests that high plasmatic levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) could promote cancer progression. The present study analyzed the effect of LDL on the primary plasmatic active Tamoxifen's metabolites resistance acquisition, 4-hydroxytamoxifen (4OH-Tam) and 4-hydroxy-N-desmethyl-tamoxifen (endoxifen), in breast cancer ERα + cells (MCF-7). Methods: Two resistant cellular variants, MCF-7Var-H and MCF-7Var-I, were generated by a novel strategy and their phenotype features were evaluated. Phenotypic assessment was performed by MTT assays, cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy, zymography and protein expression analysis. Results: MCF-7Var-H, generated only with tamoxifen metabolites, showed a critical down-regulation in hormone receptors, augmented migration capacity, metalloprotease 9 extracellular medium excretion, and a mesenchymal morphology in contrast with native MCF-7, suggesting the transition towards Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) phenotype. In contrast, MCF-7Var-I which was generated in a high LDL media, showed only a slight upregulation in ER and other less noticeable metabolic adaptations. Results suggest a potential role of transcription factor nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in phenotypic differences observed among variants. Conclusion: LDL high or low concentrations during Tamoxifen's metabolites chemoresistance acquisition leads to different cellular mechanisms related to chemoresistance. A novel adaptative cellular response associated with Nrf2 activity could be implicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

En la formación de estudiantes Universitarios, se ha evaluado el efecto del uso del software Matlab sobre el rendimiento académico en un grupo de estudiantes repitentes de matemática básica, investigación de tipo cuasi experimental, cuantitativo con un diseño de investigación pre-experimental de pre prueba – post prueba con un solo grupo; se tuvo una muestra de 48 estudiantes repitientes distribuidos en un solo grupo, se usó evaluó rendimientos académicos individuales en la escala de 0 al 20; se llega a la conclusión que el uso del software matemático Matlab influye positivamente en el rendimiento académico de un grupo de estudiantes repitentes.

Las NTIC son empleados de una manera inadecuada y son causados por el limitado conocimiento, comprensión y aplicación de los NTICS por parte de los docentes y si esta situación se revierte como encontramos en este estudio puede beneficiar: mejorando el desempeño docente y la capacidad de aprendizaje de los estudiantes, encontramos que el uso de estas herramientas en la enseñanza puede motivar a la mejora del desempeño docente y el aprendizaje de los estudiantes y que después de las horas de clase lo usaran las NTIC de manera adecuada en beneficio para un futuro mejor.

La presente investigación tuvo como propósito determinar la relación que existe entre la inteligencia emocional, la autoeficacia emprendedora y la capacidad creativa en estudiantes de ingeniería de las universidades de la amazonia peruana. Para ello se realizó una investigación cuantitativa de tipo transversal y correlacional. Se utilizaron los instrumentos de autoeficacia emprendedora de Noble, Jung y Ehrlich, las pruebas de medición de capacidad creativa de Armitage y Conner, así como el test de inteligencia emocional desarrollado por Shutte. Estos instrumentos fueron aplicados en una muestra de 360 estudiantes de universidades amazónicas del Perú, a través de un muestreo probabilístico y estratificado. Los resultados indicaron que existen correlaciones positivas y significativas entre las variables. De allí que resulte de vital importancia resaltar la fuerte y significativa correlación entre la inteligencia emocional y la autoeficacia emprendedora, con la capacidad creativa de estos estudiantes para su inclusión en la acción pedagógica.

The tax influence on sports prediction establishments in the city of Portoviejo is dated as a fun-damental and functional element, which addresses the relationship between businesses and local tax collections. Within this study, the activities of sports forecasting establishments will be car-ried out where they are directly impacted by tax revenues in the city. From that point, the relationships between the tax rates that are applied within the estab-lishments and the resulting financial contribution will be analyzed. However, the communities' perceptions of the presence of businesses and their impacts on local economies are explored. This research seeks to provide the comprehensive version of the tax dynamics associated with sports forecasting establishments in the city of Portoviejo, in order to inform future fiscal policies or their strategic decisions. A study of the impact of taxes on sports betting centers in the city of Portoviejo is pre-sented, in the form of a detailed analysis of the integration of these companies with local tax collection. Facilities of this type, focused on sports betting, are not only an important part of the city's commercial fabric, but play an important role in generating tax revenue. Understanding the dynamics between tax rates and the financial stability of gambling or-ganizations is important because it can have a direct impact on business owners' strategic decisions and local tax policies. Introducción: Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) es un bacilo anaerobio gram positivo, capaz de producir diarrea o colitis en el paciente hospitalizado, particularmente aquellos expuestos al uso de antibióticos. Se ha descrito una mortalidad que va de 6% hasta 38%, en pacientes con diarrea asociada a C. difficile (DACD). Objetivo: Determinar la mortalidad hospitalaria en pacientes que presentan DACD. Como objetivo secundario, se registraron los días de estancia hospitalaria y los factores de riesgo para una evolución desfavorable. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio de cohorte de tipo retrospectivo. Se revisaron los expedientes de pacientes hospitalizados con diarrea y una prueba positiva de toxinas A y B para C. difficile. Se registró el número de pacientes que fallecieron durante el internamiento, en el cual presentaron DACD. Se documentaron los principales factores asociados a una evolución desfavorable. Resultados: De 66 pacientes incluidos en el estudio, 6 pacientes (9,1%) fallecieron durante su internamiento. La mediana de edad fue menor en el grupo que no fallecieron con 51,5 años (rango 36 a 66,75), frente a 81,5 años (rango 69,5 a 83,25) (p = 0,002), en el grupo que falleció. Los días de estancia hospitalaria fueron de 32,50 días (rango 8,25 a 64,25) en el grupo de pacientes que fallecieron, frente a 6,5 días (rango 4 a 15,75) (p = 0,045), en el grupo que no falleció. Conclusión: Encontramos una mortalidad elevada en pacientes con DACD hospitalizados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos, lo cual nos obliga a mantener una vigilancia estrecha en esta población, para realizar una detección y tratamiento oportuno.

Using different spectroscopic techniques and computational calculations, we describe the structural and electromagnetic relationship that causes many interesting phenomena within a novel coordination compound with mixed valence manganese (II, III and IV) in its crystal and powder state. The novel compound [MnII MnIII MnIV(HL)2(H2L)2(H2O)4](NO3)2(H2O) 1 was obtained with the Schiff base (E)-2-((2-hydroxybenzylidene)amine)-2-(hydroximethyl)propane-1,3-diol, (H4L), and Mn(NO3)2.4H2O. The coordination reaction was promoted by the deprotonation of the ligand by the soft base triethylamine. The paper’s main contribution is the integration of the experimental and computational studies to explain the interesting magnetic behavior that the mixed valence manganese multimetallic core shows. The results presented herein, which are rarely found for Mn(II), (III) and (IV) complexes, will contribute to the understanding of the magnetic communication generated by the valence electrons and its repercussion in the local geometry and in the overall crystalline structure.
