We have studied the phase diagram of two capacitively coupled Josephson junction arrays with charging energy, $E_c$, and Josephson coupling energy, $E_J$. Our results are obtained using a path integral Quantum Monte Carlo algorithm. The parameter that quantifies the quantum fluctuations in the i-th array is defined by $\alpha_i\equiv \frac{E_{{c}_i}}{E_{J_i}}$. Depending on the value of $\alpha_i$, each independent array may be in the semiclassical or in the quantum regime: We find that thermal fluctuations are important when $\alpha \lesssim 1.5 $ and the quantum fluctuations dominate when $2.0 \lesssim \alpha $. We have extensively studied the interplay between vortex and charge dominated individual array phases. The two arrays are coupled via the capacitance $C_{{\rm inter}}$ at each site of the lattices. We find a {\it reentrant transition} in $\Upsilon(T,\alpha)$, at low temperatures, when one of the arrays is in the semiclassical limit (i.e. $\alpha_{1}=0.5 $) and the quantum array has $2.0 \leq\alpha_{2} \leq 2.5$, for the values considered for the interlayer capacitance. In addition, when $3.0 \leq \alpha_{2} < 4.0$, and for all the inter-layer couplings considered above, a {\it novel} reentrant phase transition occurs in the charge degrees of freedom, i.e. there is a reentrant insulating-conducting transition at low temperatures. We obtain the corresponding phase diagrams and found some features that resemble those seen in experiments with 2D JJA., Comment: 25 Latex pages including 8 encapsulated poscript figures. We have carried out extensive equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to study the structure and the interfacial properties in the liquid-vapor (LV) phase coexistence of partially miscible binary Lennard-Jones (LJ) mixtures. By analyzing the structural properties as a function of the miscibility parameter, $ \alpha $, we found that at relatively low temperatures the system separates forming a liquid A-liquid B interface in coexistence with the vapor phase. At higher temperatures and, $ 0<\alpha\leq 0.5 $, we found a temperature range, $T^{*}_{w}(\alpha) \leq T^{*} < T^{*}_{cons}(\alpha)$, where the liquid phases are wet by the vapor phase. Here, $ T^{*}_{w}(\alpha) $ represents the wetting transition temperature (WTT) and $T^{*}_{cons}(\alpha)$ is the consolute temperature of the mixture. However, for $ 0.5< \alpha < 1$, no wetting phenomenon occurs. For the particular value, $ \alpha=0.25 $, we analyzed quantitatively the $T^{*}$ versus $\rho^{*}$, and $ P^{*} $ versus $ T^{*} $ phase diagrams and found, $ T^{*}_{c}\simeq 1.25 $, and $T^{*}_{cons}\simeq1.25$. We also studied quantitatively, as a function of temperature, the surface tension and the adsorption of molecules at the liquid-liquid interface. It was found that the adsorption shows a jump from a finite negative value up to minus infinity, when the vapor wets the liquid phases, suggesting that the wetting transition (WT) is of first order. The calculated phase diagram together with the wetting phenomenon strongly suggest the existence of a tricritical point. We have carried out extensive equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the Liquid-Vapor coexistence in partially miscible binary and ternary mixtures of Lennard-Jones (LJ) fluids. We have studied in detail the time evolution of the density profiles and the interfacial properties in a temperature region of the phase diagram where the condensed phase is demixed. The composition of the mixtures are fixed, 50% for the binary mixture and 33.33% for the ternary mixture. The results of the simulations clearly indicate that in the range of temperatures $78 < T < 102 ^{\rm o}$K, --in the scale of argon-- the system evolves towards a metastable alternated liquid-liquid lamellar state in coexistence with its vapor phase. These states can be achieved if the initial configuration is fully disordered, that is, when the particles of the fluids are randomly placed on the sites of an FCC crystal or the system is completely mixed. As temperature decreases these states become very well defined and more stables in time. We find that below $90 ^{\rm o}$K, the alternated liquid-liquid lamellar state remains alive for 80 ns, in the scale of argon, the longest simulation we have carried out. We have investigated analitycally the phase diagram of a generalized spherical version of the Blume-Emery-Griffiths model that includes ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic spin interactions as well as quadrupole interactions in zero and nonzero magnetic field. We show that in three dimensions and zero magnetic field a regular paramagnetic-ferromagnetic (PM-FM) or a paramagnetic-antiferromagnetic (PM-AFM) phase transition occurs whenever the magnetic spin interactions dominate over the quadrupole interactions. However, when spin and quadrupole interactions are important, there appears a reentrant FM-PM or AFM-PM phase transition at low temperatures, in addition to the regular PM-FM or PM-AFM phase transitions. On the other hand, in a nonzero homogeneous external magnetic field $H$, we find no evidence of a transition to the state with spontaneous magnetization for FM interactions in three dimensions. Nonethelesss, for AFM interactions we do get a scenario similar to that described above for zero external magnetic field, except that the critical temperatures are now functions of $H$. We also find two critical field values, $H_{c1}$, at which the reentrance phenomenon dissapears and $H_{c2}$ ($H_{c1}\approx 0.5H_{c2}$), above which the PM-AFM transition temperature vanishes., Comment: 21 pages, 6 figs. By means of extensive equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations we have investigated, the behavior of the interfacial tension $\gamma$ of two immiscible symmetrical Lennard-Jones fluids. This quantity is studied as function of reduced temperature $T^{*}={{k_{_B} T}\over \epsilon}$ in the range $0.6 \leq T^{*} \leq 3.0$. We find that, unlike the monotonic decay obtained for the liquid-vapor interfacial tension, for the liquid-liquid interface, $\gamma (T)$ has a maximum at a specific temperature. We also investigate the effect that surfactant-like particles has on the thermodynamic as well as the structural properties of the liquid-liquid interface. It is found that $\gamma$ decays monotonically as the concentration of the surfactant-like particles increases., Comment: LaTeX-Revtex file with 7 encapsulated postscript figures. In the volume fraction range (0.005,0.08), we have obtained the temporal evolution of the structure factor $S(q)$, in extensive numerical simulations of both diffusion-limited and reaction-limited colloid aggregation in three dimensions. We report the observation of scaling of this structure function in the diffusion-limited case, analogous to a spinodal decomposition type of scaling. By comparing $S(q)$ with the pair correlation function between particles, we were able to identify the peak in the structure factor as arising from the correlations between particles belonging to nearest-neighbor clusters. The exponents $a\prime$ and $a\prime \prime$ that relate the position and the height of the maximum in $S(q)$ vs. time, respectively, were also obtained and shown to differ somewhat from the spinodal decomposition exponents. We also found a terminal shape for $S(q)$ that corresponds to a close packing of the clusters after gelation. Moreover, this picture was shown to be valid in a concentration range larger than the one suggested in recent experiments. Although the $S(q)$ for reaction-limited colloid aggregation does not show a pronounced peak for the earlier times, eventually the peak stretches and becomes higher than in the diffusion-limited case.
