The present study aimed to understand how informal caregivers and occupational therapists support daily time management (DTM) of older persons with dementia (PwD) and their views regarding assistive products for DTM, i.e., time management products (TMPs). The study involved a qualitative descriptive approach rooted in principles of naturalistic inquiry. Twelve caregivers of PwD and eight occupational therapists were interviewed. Conventional content analysis was performed. Findings are described in three categories. The first category "current strategies to support DTM" described the low-tech strategies used for specific cognitive functions. The second category "factors influencing DTM and TMP" entailed factors related to the PwD (especially premorbid time management), the caregiver (multiple caregivers, attitude towards technology), the occupational therapist (impairment-oriented practice, limited resources and training in DTM) and the context (attitude towards time, poor awareness and knowledge of dementia, an expectation of recovery, negative societal attitudes towards devices, affordability/access). The third category "expectations from TMP" described the participants' expectations regarding device-related features (low-cost, easy to use, portable, low maintenance, customisable and useable across the disease continuum) and support for device use (maintenance, caregiver education). The study provides contextually relevant recommendations and strategies to inform the provision, acceptance and adherence to DTM interventions and guide the development and prescription of indigenous TMP for PwD in India. Adoption of time management products (TMPs) for people with dementia in India requires an understanding of contextual factors, especially culturally influenced attitudes of persons with dementia and their family members towards time, assistive products and elders. Contextually relevant approaches and strategies are suggested to guide the provision of daily time management (DTM) interventions including TMPs for people with dementia and their families in India. It is imperative to assess the relevance, acceptance and feasibility of available TMPs for people with dementia and their families living in India and develop contextually relevant indigenous products. Occupational therapists working with people with dementia and their families would benefit from more opportunities for training and access to resources (including contextually relevant standardized assessments) to implement DTM interventions. The proportion of older adults and frail adults in Canada is expected to rise significantly in upcoming years. Currently, a considerable number of older adults do not actively participate in developing their own care plans; prior research has indicated several benefits of patient engagement in this process. Thus, we conducted a mixed methods study that examined the prevalence of rehabilitation goals and identified these for 305 community dwelling older adults referred to a frailty intervention clinic utilizing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) between 2014 and 2018. Top patient concerns included mobility (84%), services, systems, and policies (51%), sensory functions and pain (50%), and self-care or domestic life (47%). The most common referrals or recommendations for patients included further follow-up with a physician or specialist (36%), referral to an onsite falls prevention clinic (31%), and medication modifications (31%). Based upon these findings, we recommend greater utilization of CGA within a team-based approach to improve patient care by allowing for greater collaboration and shared decision-making by healthcare providers. Moreover, CGA can be an effective tool to meet the complex and unique health-care needs of frail patients while incorporating patient goals. This is vitally important considering the predicted growth in the population of frail and/or older patients, as well as the current challenges and shortfalls in meeting the health-care needs of this population. Families of persons living with dementia provide varying levels and forms of support to their loved ones and experience changes in familial dynamics, roles, and responsibilities over time. Family-centered care can enable their successful adaptation and participation in meaningful occupations. This scoping review aimed to explore available familycentered interventions for persons living with dementia, with a focus on occupational therapy. Three databases were searched and 31 eligible studies were found. Thirteen family-centered interventions were identified that were mostly multicomponent in nature, of which three involved occupational therapy. These interventions were investigated using a range of study designs and addressed outcomes related to the person with dementia, primary caregiver, and extended social network. With respect to study context, most interventions were developed in the United States and other Western countries with a limited number located in other contexts. The review findings underline the need for developing more family-centered interventions within occupational therapy, particularly for different contexts and cultures, and for translating available interventions to practice. This qualitative study aimed to understand occupational therapists' experiences of providing home programs to stroke survivors in India. Using an interpretative phenomenological approach, eight practicing occupational therapists were interviewed in depth about home programs for individuals recovering from stroke. Two broad themes with subthemes emerged describing the organizational factors, sociocultural and economic influences on home program provision as well as describing how the occupational therapists addressed the challenges to facilitate home program provision and adherence. The findings can inform occupational therapy practice in lower- and middle-income countries like India and other countries where existing practice recommendations for stroke rehabilitation and core professional tenets may be challenged. Importance: Cultural humility may improve the quality of occupational therapy services, but how occupational therapy practitioners apply this approach in their practice contexts has not been clearly described in the literature., Objective: To describe peer-reviewed rehabilitation literature on the practice of cultural humility and align the findings with occupational therapy practice using the Canadian Practice Process Framework (CPPF)., Data Sources: Nine databases were searched, using the term cultural humility to identify relevant peer-reviewed rehabilitation literature. Google Scholar and six journals were hand-searched to identify additional studies., Study Selection and Data Collection: This substudy of a larger knowledge synthesis was guided by Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) scoping review methodology. Titles, abstracts, and full texts of studies were screened using Covidence. Study descriptors, context, population, and cultural humility elements defined by Tervalon and Murray-García (1998), and recommendations were extracted, analyzed, and mapped onto the CPPF., Findings: In total, 11 studies were included. Cultural humility elements of self-reflection and critique (n = 7; 63.6%), self-awareness and egolessness (n = 8; 72.7%), and supportive interaction (n = 5; 45.4%) were identified. Most cultural humility elements aligned with the societal (n = 11; 100%) and practice (n = 10; 90.9%) contexts of the CPPF., Conclusions and Relevance: Findings highlight how occupational therapists could integrate cultural humility at each stage and in each context of their practice. Additionally, these insights can inform occupational therapy education on integrating cultural humility into training programs and guiding practitioners in applying cultural humility principles to enhance their practice.
