Methods: Wedge-shape Class V cavities were prepared (4×2×2 mm [length × width × depth]) on the buccal surfaces of 90 sound human premolars. Cavities were divided randomly into three groups (n=30) according to the used adhesive (Xeno® V [self-etching adhesive system]) and BOND-1® SF (solvent-free self-etching adhesive system) in conjunction with Artiste® Nano Composite resin, and Fusio™ Liquid Dentin (self-adhesive flowable composite), consecutively. Each group was further divided into three subgroups (n=10): (A) control, (B) subjected to occlusal cyclic loading (90N for 5,000 cycles), and (C) subjected to occlusal cyclic loading (90N for 10,000 cycles). Teeth then were coated with nail polish up to 1 mm from the interface, immersed in 50% silver nitrate solution for 24 hours and tested for nanoleakage using the environmental scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive analysis X-ray analysis. Data were statistically analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and Tukey's post hoc tests (P≤0.05). Results: The Fusio Liquid Dentin group showed statistically significant lower percentages of silver penetration (0.55 µ) compared with the BOND-1 SF (3.45 µ) and Xeno V (3.82 µ) groups, which were not statistically different from each other, as they both showed higher silver penetration. Conclusion: Under the test conditions, the self-adhesive flowable composite provided better sealing ability. Aging of the two tested adhesive systems, as a function of cyclic loading, increased nanoleakage. Keywords: Class V, flowable composite, nanoleakage, cyclic loading, self-adhesive

Abstract

Areas contaminated by heavy metals were identified in the El-Gharbia Governorate (District) of Egypt. Identification used remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as the main research tools. Digital Elevation Models (DEM), Landsat 8 and contour maps were used to map physiographic units. Nine soil profiles were sampled in different physiographic units in the study area. Geochemical analysis of the 33 soil samples was conducted using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF). Vanadium (V), nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) concentrations were measured. V, Ni and Cr concentrations exceeded recommended safety values in all horizons of the soil profiles, while Cu had a variable distribution. Zn concentrations slightly exceeded recommended concentration limits. Concentrations were mapped in each physiographic unit using the inverse distance weighted (IDW) function of Arc-GIS 10.1 software. Pollution levels were closely associated with industry and urban areas.

11. Effect of mutual modification by BaO and BaF2 on the structure and properties of BaO–BaF2–B2O3 glasses.

Abstract

Oxy-fluoroborate glasses of the composition xBaF2·(45-x)BaO·55B2O3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 45 mol%) have been prepared by the normal melt-quenching technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirm that the glassy matrix contains amorphous and/or crystalline phases depending on BaF2 concentration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows agglomerates consisting of clusters in micro-scale separated from the amorphous phase. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectra reveal that BaF2 partially modifies the borate matrix as in the binary BaF2–B2O3 glasses. Values of fraction N4 of four coordinated boron atoms calculated from FTIR spectra agree with nuclear magneitic resonance (NMR) data. N4 increases at the expense of non-bridging planar trigonal (BO3) units at low concentrations of BaF2 while at higher concentrations, N4 increases at the expense of tetrahedral BO4 units. Density seems to be constant while molar volume increases from 27.51 to 30.31 cm−1 with increasing BaF2 content. It is found that the volume of structural units by BaF2 is greater than those related to BaO. Tg have a linear decrease from 580 to 485 °C with increasing BaF2 concentration. A structural view is presented for the role of BaF2, obtained based on N4 data obtained from NMR and FTIR analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

29. Corrosion behaviour of friction stir welded AA5xxx aluminium alloys

Abstract

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a well recognised method for joining aluminium alloys and other engineering materials at a temperature below their melting point. However, the microstructure of the alloys may be modified during the welding process due to frictional heat and severe plastic deformation. In this study, the microstructures of friction stir welded AA5754-H111 and AA5083-O aluminium alloys have been investigated using optical microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy equipped with electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) facilities. Typical weld zones introduced by FSW were observed. Further, a joint line remnant flaw (JLR) within the thermomechanical affected zone (TMAZ) of the welds was also revealed. The formation of the JLR is attributed to dispersion of the magnesium rich oxides within the joining line.The effect of the modified alloy microstructure on the corrosion behaviour of the welds has been investigated by corrosion susceptibility testing and ex-situ SEM examination. Both parent alloys and welds showed good exfoliation and intergranular corrosion resistance (IGC). However, severe localized corrosion was observed at joint line remnant and the weld root.Reduced hardness was recorded in the heat affected zone (HAZ) of AA5754-H111 aluminium alloy weldment. This is attributed to the heat generated during welding that led to grain coarsening. In contrast, slightly increased hardness was recorded within the TMAZ. This was related to the grain refinement as a result of the recrystallization process that took place due to the effect of the thermal cycle and the plastic deformation. Little hardness change was recorded within AA5083-O aluminium alloy weldment. This was attributed to the effect of the alloy temper condition.Thermal simulation of the service environment of the friction stir welded alloys was conducted to assess the resistance to sensitization of welds. After exposure of the welded AA5754 and AA5083 alloys at 50, 70 and 170°C for prolonged time, the resistance of the AA5083 alloy weld to the IGC drastically decreased owing to the precipitation of magnesium rich particles known as β-phase at the grain boundaries. On the contrary, the resistance of the AA5754 alloy weld to IGC remained after the thermal exposure. Thus, the level of Mg content in Al-Mg alloys plays an important role in determining the corrosion characteristics of the alloys. The precipitation of Mg rich particles (β-phase) on the grain boundary is the determining factor for the resistance of the AA5xxx alloys to IGC owing to the difference in the electrode potentials between the β-phase and the grain interior, which leads to the generation of microgalvanic cells and selective dissolution of the grain boundary.

Abstract

Manajemen Sekuriti (Manajemen Keamanan) adalah langkah-langkah yang perlu diselenggarakan dalam membuat upaya keamanan dan pencegahan kerugian agar tidak terjadi gangguan yang dapat menimbulkan kerugian, dengan dasar efektif dan efisien. Manajemen sekuriti juga didasarkan dengan pengolahan data yang kemudian dianalisa pada suatu kejahatan yang sudah dan mungkin terjadi dalam suatu wilayah atau instansi yang ada. Kecelakaan yang terjadi berhubungan dengan hubungan kerja termasuk penyakit yang timbul karena hubungan kerja, demikian pula kecelakaan yang terjadi dalam perjalanan berangkat dari rumah menuju tempat kerja dan pulang ke rumah melalui jalan yang biasa atau yang wajar dilalui. Kesehatan dan Keselamatan Kerja (K3) merupakan salah satu upaya untuk menciptakan tempat kerja yang aman, sehat, bebas dari pencemaran lingkungan, sehingga dapat mengurangi dan atau bebas dari kecelakaan kerja dan penyakit akibat kerja yang pada akhirnya dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan produktivitas kerja. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, pendekatan ini di ditandai dengan pencarian informasi secara luas dari bebarapa sumber yang dianggap mempunyai peranan yang cukup besar dibidang keamanan. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik observasi. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui sistem manajemen sekuiriti di PT. Denso Manufacturing Indonesia dan untuk mengetahui pengembangan yang dilakukan dalam meningkatkan Keselamatan Kerja pada PT. Denso Manufacturing Indonesia.

Abstract

Nanoparticles of zinc oxide (ZnO NPs), propolis, and the ZnO–propolis composite (ZnO-P NCs) have been synthesized using a biomimetic approach. Zeta potential analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) proved the formation and stability of nanomaterials. Findings using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), EDX-imaging, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) demonstrated that the particle size of ZnO-P NCs was 9.70 nm. The antioxidant (DPPH radical scavenging) activity of synthesized nanomaterials was investigated. IC50 values of zinc oxide, propolis, and ZnO-P NCs nanoparticles were 2.75, 1.7, and 1.45 mg mL−1, respectively. In addition, their selectivity and anticancer activity for cancer cell lines (Hela and MCF-7) and human normal (W138) cell lines were investigated. ZnO-P NCs were highly effective against the cell line for breast cancer with an IC50 value of 18 µg/mL, indicating its anticancer-promising potent cytotoxicity in breast cancer treatment, and 23 µg/mL against cervical cancer. In addition, the higher observed safety, antioxidant, and anticancer activities for synthesized ZnO-P NCs confirmed the synergistic effect of this combination. It was obtained that the specific mechanisms underlying the synergy effect between zinc oxide nanoparticles and nanopropolis in their composite formulation varied depending on the preparation method, ratio, and concentration of the components. International audience; Introduction: We aimed to describe patients with coexisting infective endocarditis (IE) and bacterial meningitis (BM).Methods: We merged two large prospective cohorts, an IE cohort and a BM cohort, with only cases of definite IE and community-acquired meningitis. We compared patients who had IE and BM concurrently to patients with IE only and BM only.Results: Among the 1030 included patients, we identified 42 patients with IE-BM (4.1%). Baseline characteristics of patients with IE-BM were mostly similar to those of patients with IE, but meningitis was the predominant presentation at admission (39/42, 92.3%). Causative pathogens were predominantly Streptococcus pneumoniae (18/42, 42.9%) and Staphylococcus aureus (14/42, 33.3%). All pneumococcal IE were associated with BM (18/18). BM due to oral and group D streptococci, Streptococcus agalactiae, and S. aureus were frequently associated with IE (14/30, 46.7%). Three-month mortality was 28.6% in patients with IE-BM, 20.5% in patients with IE, and 16.6% in patients with BM.Conclusions: Patients with pneumococcal IE or altered mental status during IE must be investigated for BM. Patients with S. aureus, oral and group D streptococcal or enterococcal BM, or unfavorable outcome in pneumococcal meningitis would benefit from an echocardiography. Patients with the dual infection have the worst prognosis. Their identification is mandatory to initiate appropriate treatment.
