Menopause may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia. This study aimed to use young plasma therapy (YPT) to improve dementia caused by AD in aged ovariectomized rats. Female Wistar rats were used in the following groups: (a) young (CY) (180–200 g, 2–3 months, n = 10) and (b) old groups (250–350 g, 22–24 months, n = 60). The old rats were randomly assigned to six sub-groups: (1) control, (2) sham, (3) ovariectomized group (OVX), (4) OVX + Alzheimer disease (OVX + AD), (5) OVX + AD+ 17β-Estradiol (OVX + AD + E), and (6) OVX + AD + young plasma (OVX + AD + YP). Cognitive behaviors were evaluated using NOR, MWM, and PAL tests. MiR-134a, SIRT-1, CREB, and BDNF expressions were measured using real-time PCR and western blot, respectively. Oxidative stress in hippocampal tissue was assayed using ELISA kits. OVX and AD caused significant cognitive impairment (p < 0.001), up-regulated miR-134a (p < 0.001), down-regulated SIRT-1, CREB, and BDNF protein expression (p < 0.001), and decreased antioxidant marker levels (p < 0.001) compared to the sham group. YPT significantly restored miR-134a (p < 0.001), SIRT-1 (p < 0.001), CREB (p < 0.001), and BDNF (p < 0.001) protein expression in OVX + AD rats. YPT, as much as or more than estrogen therapy (ERT), significantly improved oxidative stress and down-regulated miR-134a expression and the up-regulation of SIRT-1, CREB, and BDNF proteins in OVX + AD rats (p < 0.001). YPT significantly improved histological alteration compared to the OVX + AD group (p < 0.001). As a non-pharmacological treatment, YPT can improve the expression of miR-134a and SIRT-1, CREB, and BDNF proteins as much as or more than estrogen therapy, ameliorating AD-induced dementia in aged OVX rats. Design of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes suitable for all channels which exhibit a given capacity C is investigated. Such codes are referred to as universal LDPC codes. First, based on numerous observations, a conjecture is put forth that a code working on N equal-capacity channels, also works on any convex combination of these N channels. As a supporting evidence, we prove that a code satisfying the stability condition on N channels, also satisfies the stability condition on the convex hull of these N channels. Then, a channel decomposition method is suggested which spans any given channel with capacity C in terms of a number of identical-capacity basis channels. We expect codes that work on the basis channels to be suitable for any convex combination of the bases, i.e., all channels with capacity C. Such codes are found over a wide range of rates. An upper bound on the achievable rate of universal LDPC codes is suggested. Through examples, it is shown that our codes achieve rates extremely close to this upper bound. In comparison with existing LDPC codes designed for a given channel, significant performance gain is reported when codes are used over various channels of equal capacity. In the present work, the extract of a paper-flower species called Bougainvillea spectabilis was used to green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs). The synthesized ZnO NPs was confirmed by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, and FTIR techniques. Then, the ability of ZnO NPs to remove 2,4-dinitrophenol from aqueous solutions was investigated using photocatalytic and sonocatalytic processes. All experiments were carried out in a batch system and the effects of pH, NPs dosage, concentration, and contact time were evaluated. The findings of this study showed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model could well describe the removal of 2,4-dinitrophenol by ZnO NPs. Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and BE-T isotherm models were also assessed in a dark condition. The Freundlich isotherm model was able to provide the best fit with the experimental data. Examination of the results showed that the degradation of 2,4-dinitrophenol at the presence of ultraviolet (UV) and ultrasonic (US) waves was able to increase the removal efficiency to about twice as much as removal by adsorption alone. Also, The obtained results showed that the maximum removal of 2,4-dinitrophenol under photocatalytic and sonocatalytic conditions occurred at the presence of 25 mg of NPs, solution pH of 4, and 2,4-dinitrophenol concentration of 20 ppm. The best rates of photocatalytic and sonocatalytic degradation under the optimal conditions were 84.42% and 77.13% during 60 min, respectively. Thermodynamic studies indicated that the degradation of 2,4-dinitrophenol by ZnO NPs is a spontaneous and endothermic process in the direction of increasing entropy. The zinc oxide NPs have better performance in the removal of 2,4-dinitrophenol at the presence of UV and US waves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the groundbreaking advancements in the synthesis of inorganic lead halide perovskite (LHP) nanocrystals (NCs), stimulated from their intriguing size‐, composition‐, and morphology‐dependent optical and optoelectronic properties, their formation mechanism through the hot‐injection (HI) synthetic route is not well‐understood. In this work, for the first time, in‐flow HI synthesis of cesium lead iodide (CsPbI3) NCs is introduced and a comprehensive understanding of the interdependent competing reaction parameters controlling the NC morphology (nanocube vs nanoplatelet) and properties is provided. Utilizing the developed flow synthesis strategy, a change in the CsPbI3 NC formation mechanism at temperatures higher than 150 °C, resulting in different CsPbI3 morphologies is revealed. Through comparison of the flow‐ versus flask‐based synthesis, deficiencies of batch reactors in reproducible and scalable synthesis of CsPbI3 NCs with fast formation kinetics are demonstrated. The developed modular flow chemistry route provides a new frontier for high‐temperature studies of solution‐processed LHP NCs and enables their consistent and reliable continuous nanomanufacturing for next‐generation energy technologies.
