Abstract

Reaction of Rh(I)dimethylglyoximato monoanion (Hdmg)2 with small cone angle phosphines leads to reduction of one of the four equatorial oximes to an imine group. Four nonequivalent nitrogen atoms in the reaction product (Rh(III)(Hdmg)2,3-butanedione 2-imine 3-oximato (Hbdio)(PR3)2)+ connect the ligands Hdmg and Hbdio to Ru(III). Two phosphines in the trans positions complete the metal coordination sphere. X-ray crystallographic studies help determine the structure of the complexes, and polarographic and cyclic voltammetric studies enable the investigation of the electrochemical properties of the complexes.

Abstract

The reaction of methylaquobis(dimethylgyoximato)cobalt(III) with 3-pyridylboronic acid in CH2Cl2/CH3OH led to the formation of a dinuclear complex that contained two methylcobaloxime units. The methylcobaloxime units of the resulting dinuclear complex were held together by two B(OCH3)(3-Py) residues which were very stable in solution. Furthermore, dimer was arranged around a crystallographic symmetry center.

Abstract

Diethylgermanium-diphenylsilicon oxide [(Et2Ge)O(Ph2Si)O]2 has been prepared by reaction of diethylgermanium dichloride and diphenyldihydroxysilane. Spectra and X-ray analysis showed the presence of a puckered eight-membered silicon-germanium-oxygen ring. The ethyl groups of the germanium atoms are disordered. A procedure is proposed for eight-membered rings with low symmetry to obtain a classification into clearly explaining ring forms based on exact or approximated planes put through as many ring atoms as possible. All of the 42 published eight-membered rings with silicon or germanium and oxygen, nitrogen or carbon could be classified by this method.

40. The structure of CoSAPO-34, containing i-propylamine as a template

Abstract

The crystal structure of a cobalt silicoaluminophosphate, CoSAPO-34, is reported. The crystals belong to the rhombohedral R3 space group with unit cell parameters a = 13.797(7) and c = 14.898(7) A. The final R index was 0.055 for 771 independent reflections. The framework structure is very close to that of natural chabazite but with ordered tetrahedral sites, apparently (Al, Co) and (P, Si). The experimental evidence strongly supports the view that cobalt ions are incorporated into the framework. Each large cavity is occupied by one water molecule and by an isopropylamine molecule. The water 0 atom binds through weak hydrogen bonds to three 0 atoms of the six-membered ring, whereas the N atom binds in a similar way to the 0 atoms of the eight-membered window.

Abstract

The electronic structure of the vitamin B12 molecule, cyanocobalamin, is calculated by a first-principles method, which provides an interpretation of the optical absorption data and is consistent with soft X-ray fluorescence measurements. A fixed accurately determined geometry was used for the calculation. The large difference in the HOMO–LUMO gap compared to existing calculations, using only the analogous corrin derivative, is evidence that the side chains (particularly the nucleotide loop) strongly influence the electronic structure.
