Abstract

The adoption of Lean Six Sigma has become increasingly widespread in manufacturing industries worldwide. It is a powerful methodology for optimizing operational efficiency and quality, leading to increased productivity, reduced costs, and higher customer satisfaction. However, implementing LSS effectively, especially in Indian manufacturing sectors striving for sustainability, presents significant challenges. In this paper, the authors have presented the critical factors that impede the successful integration of sustainable Lean Six Sigma practices within the Indian manufacturing landscape. Through a systematic review of existing literature and empirical studies, authors have identified the eighteen failure factors. To prioritize these factors, authors have employed the Best Worst Method (BWM), a decision-making tool that aids in ranking factors based on their importance and impact. It is a multi-criterion decision-making (MCDM) methodology to solve different types of fact-based decision–making problems. This method involves initially identifying the best (most important) and worst (least important) factors, followed by pairwise comparisons to determine their relative significance. Results depict that “Failure of leadership to inspire and motivate”, “Lack of well-defined framework for executing initiatives”, and “High implementation cost and poor estimation of cost” are three top-level critical failure factors.

Abstract

The main problem is to raise the standard of construction, rethinking concrete's expanding potential as a construction material. The scarcity of river sand as a fine aggregate ingredient is currently a widespread issue for many concrete plants. As a result, quarried stones that were accessible locally were used as fine aggregate. Crushed Rock Particles, also known as crushed sand, performs better in terms of fresh characteristics since there are more fines present in CRF than in river sand. The current study additionally examines the relationship between plastic viscosity and the fresh and hardened SCC properties. As a partial substitute for Ordinary Portland Cement, Fly Ash and Ground Granulated Blast Slag blends are used to generate binary and ternary. The experimental tests satisfactorily validate the suggested blend design. The results shown that SCC mixture with ternary blend, binary blend with GGBS, fly ash, and blend with pure OPC are suitable for creating fresh characteristics. Additionally, it was found that a cohesive and workable mix was produced when 100 % CRF was used in place of sand.

Abstract

AbstractDuring machinability, the combination of machining process parameters and the material properties of the component to be machined plays an important role. Material properties depend upon the type of phase form present and the grain size of the formed phases, which in turn depends upon the prior treatment given to alter the initial room temperature types and form. Accordingly, spheroidization treatment was carried out on medium carbon steel (AISI1040) by altering the initial room temperature structure through normalizing and hardening treatment. Machinability experiments were performed on CNC machine by varying machining process constraints. Tool wear and surface roughness of the machined component obtained by turning were analyzed and correlated. Using Minitab and full factorial design, the ANOVA study was carried out. With the help of regression analysis, residual and main effect plots combined optimization (tool wear and surface roughness) was targeted. ANOVA result shows excellent machinability for the as-bought-spheroidized condition where feed has a 67% contribution to tool wear (TW) whereas the depth of cut has a 71.91% contribution to surface roughness (SR). Also, the optimized regression values obtained for machining parameters are feed (0.39 mm/rev), depth of cut (0.6 mm), and spindle speed (780 rpm) with composite desirability of 0.8174. TW and SR experimental values for the optimized machining parameters are 0.039 mm and 2.89 μm, respectively, and the difference between the actual and optimized values is less than 5%.

Abstract

The Very Large Array Sky Survey (VLASS) is a synoptic, all-sky radio sky survey with a unique combination of high angular resolution ($\approx$2.5"), sensitivity (a 1$\sigma$ goal of 70 $\mu$Jy/beam in the coadded data), full linear Stokes polarimetry, time domain coverage, and wide bandwidth (2-4 GHz). The first observations began in September 2017, and observing for the survey will finish in 2024. VLASS will use approximately 5500 hours of time on the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) to cover the whole sky visible to the VLA (Declination $>-40^{\circ}$), a total of 33,885 deg$^2$. The data will be taken in three epochs to allow the discovery of variable and transient radio sources. The survey is designed to engage radio astronomy experts, multi-wavelength astronomers, and citizen scientists alike. By utilizing an "on the fly" interferometry mode, the observing overheads are much reduced compared to a conventional pointed survey. 33. Analysis-synthesis model learning with shared features: a new framework for histopathological image classification

Abstract

Automated histopathological image analysis offers exciting opportunities for the early diagnosis of several medical conditions including cancer. There are however stiff practical challenges: 1.) discriminative features from such images for separating diseased vs. healthy classes are not readily apparent, and 2.) distinct classes, e.g. healthy vs. stages of disease continue to share several geometric features. We propose a novel Analysis-synthesis model Learning with Shared Features algorithm (ALSF) for classifying such images more effectively. In ALSF, a joint analysis and synthesis learning model is introduced to learn the classifier and the feature extractor at the same time. In this way, the computation load in patch-level based image classification can be much reduced. Crucially, we integrate into this framework the learning of a low rank shared dictionary and a shared analysis operator, which more accurately represents both similarities and differences in histopathological images from distinct classes. ALSF is evaluated on two challenging databases: (1) kidney tissue images provided by the Animal Diagnosis Lab (ADL) at the Pennsylvania State University and (2) brain tumor images from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Abstract

AbstractWater pollution with potentially toxic elements is a critical public health problem today. An extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) extracted from Lysinibacillus sp. SS1 was used for the adsorptive removal of lead. One-variable-at-a-time method was used to obtain maximum adsorption of 87% at 25 mg/L lead, 25 mg/L EPS, pH 6, temperature of 27 °C, agitation speed of 80 RPM. Response surface methodology gave optimum conditions of 3.79 mg/L of EPS and 108 RPM corresponding to 97.92% of lead removal at contact time of 60 min. The data for adsorption process fit Temkin isotherm and pseudo-second order kinetic model (k = 3.348 × 10−4 mg/g.min and Qe = 824.34 mg/g), confirming monolayer-multilayer chemisorption process with liquid-film diffusion regulating the reaction rate. Positive values of ΔHo, ΔGo, and ΔSo confirmed the biosorption process to be endothermic, non-spontaneous and exhibiting increased randomness at the biosorptive interface. The adsorption of lead by EPS showed no significant change in a mixture containing zinc, magnesium, cadmium, cobalt, and iron. Hence, EPS produced by Lysinibacillus sp. SS1 can be a highly efficient, eco-friendly method of treating low concentrations of lead pollution in drinking water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In modern research, several brilliant minds investigate linear programming problems involving fuzzy variable quantities. Many researchers have turned to linear programming by fuzzy variables to address this problem. Various fuzzy simplex approaches have been developed, using ranking functions to handle fuzzy numbers. Results from this research suggest that linear ranking functions can provide a straightforward interpretation of problems involving linear programming by fuzzy variable quantities. To solve these types of problems, the Fuzzy Dual Simplex Tableau method is often applied, which proves useful for sensitivity analysis when modifications are made to the activity vectors of the fundamental columns. Background: The standard procedure for patients undergoing mastectomy surgery is general anaesthesia along with post operative analgesia, such as opioids, paracetamol and, nsaids [1]. Some additional approach is must to undertake post operative analgesia. Our aim of the study is to compare the efficacy of bupivacaine and ropivacaine in PECS block for providing analgesia in postoperative period of mastectomy patients by assessing VAS score and other parameters. Methods: The study was conducted at Srinivas Institute Of Medical Sciences And Research Centre, Mangalore, it is a randomised prospective study with 60 patients meeting inclusion criteria. In all patients following parameters like VAS score, pulse rate, blood pressure was recorded and evaluated. Results: This study shows that there was significantly less post operative pain in the R Group (0.2% Ropivacaine) compared to the B Group (0.25% Bupivacaine) as seen from the significant difference in VAS score. Conclusion: The results of our study is supportive in proving that 0.2% Ropivacaine is superior to 0.25% Bupivacaine for post-operative analgesia using PECS block and TTP block for breast cancer surgery.
