The consumption of a significant quantity of energy in buildings has been linked to the emergence of environmental problems that can have unfavourable effects on people. The prediction of energy consumption is widely regarded as an effective method for the conservation of energy and the improvement of decision-making processes for the purpose of lowering energy use. When it comes to the generation of positive results in prediction tasks, the Machine Learning (ML) technique can be considered the most appropriate and applicable strategy. This article presents a Modified Wild Horse Optimization with Deep Learning approach for Energy Consumption Prediction (MWHODL-ECP) model in residential buildings. The MWHODL-ECP method that has been provided places an emphasis on providing an up-to-date and precise forecast of the amount of energy that residential buildings consume. The MWHODL-ECP algorithm goes through several phases of data preprocessing in order to achieve this goal. These steps include merging and cleaning the data, converting and normalising the data, and converting the data. A model known as deep belief network (DBN) is used here for the purpose of predicting energy consumption. In the end, the MWHO algorithm is utilised for the hyperparameter tuning procedure. The results of the experiments demonstrated that the MWHODL-ECP approach is superior to other existing DL models in terms of its performance. The MWHODL-ECP model has improved its performance, with effective prediction results of MSE-1.10, RMSE-1.05, MAE-0.41, R-squared-96.28, and Training time-1.23.

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurological disorder where the hippocampus in the brain gets affected severely. Hippocampus is a part of the limbic system, which is mainly responsible for forming memories. The transition from Cognitively Normal (CN) to AD is having one intermittent stage, popularly known as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). In this study, segmentation operation has been performed first to separate the hippocampus, and then an analysis has been made on the basis of changes in area and atrophy in the hippocampus. A total of “2008” numbers of MR images have been analyzed for three different subject groups consist of “210” different subjects (Male:105, Female: 105) namely, CN, MCI, and AD.Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the size and atrophy of the hippocampus due to AD and MCI in comparison with CN patients.Material and Methods: All the experiments have done using MATLAB tools. All the data used is acquired from the online dataset “Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI)”.Results: From the study, it is found that the average difference in the size of the hippocampus between CN and MCI is 17.05%, between CN and AD is 31.90%, and between MCI and AD is 18.24%. The average atrophy per year in the hippocampus is found to be as 4.62% for AD, 2.33% for MCI, and 1.10% for CN subjects.Conclusions: From the study, it is observed that, for AD patients, hippocampus atrophy is highest, and hence they experience the highest memory loss followed by the MCI and CN patients.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second highest neurodegenerative disease that impairs speech besides causing bodykinesia, postural instability, rigidity and tremor. From the present research works it is understood that the disease is the result of lack of dopamine in brain cells. However, its real cause is yet to be established satisfactorily. In this paper we review the present state of the art of the PD including the nature of disease, its characteristics, the treatment, algorithms or techniques available to diagnose or monitor the patients with the disease, sensors and wearable devices being used to help PD patients and physicians. We also explored many speech based solutions to the disease. The essence of our review is that this neurodegenerative disorder needs further research and development of wearable devices that can help patients to lead a normal life. In this paper we provide the summary of findings which leads to continue our research to develop a wearable device with state of the art software that can help PD patients to have better lives.

The acid pretreatment and use of composite resins as the bonding medium has disadvantages like scratching and loss of surface enamel, decalcification, etc. To overcome disadvantages of composite resins, glass ionomers and its modifications are being used for bonding. The study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of resin reinforced glass ionomer as a direct bonding system with conventional glass ionomer cement and composite resin. The study showed that shear bond strength of composite resin has the higher value than both resin reinforced glass ionomer and conventional glass ionomer cement in both 1 and 24 hours duration and it increased from 1 to 24 hours in all groups. The shear bond strength of resin reinforced glass ionomer cement was higher than the conventional glass ionomer cement in both 1 and 24 hours duration. Conditioning with polyacrylic acid improved the bond strength of resin reinforced glass ionomer cement significantly but not statistically significant in the case of conventional glass ionomer cement. Objective: The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Abana ® (a poly-ingredient formulation with natural constituents) on in vitro platelet aggregation and occlusion-induced deep venous thrombosis in rats. Methods: Anti-platelet property of Abana ® was evaluated using ADP (Adenosin 5-diphosphate) and adrenaline-induced platelet aggregation models, and anti-thrombotic activity was evaluated against occlusion-induced deep venous thrombosis model in wistar rats. Results: Under the in vitro conditions, Abana® (250, 500 and 1000 μg/ml) alleviated ADP and adrenaline-induced platelet aggregation in a dose-dependent manner. Abana® (1000 μg/ml) inhibited ADP and adrenaline-induced platelet aggregation by as much as 50.69% and 64.83% respectively. Furthermore, 6 days pre-treatment with Abana® (250 and 500 mg/kg, p.o.) in an in vivo study showed significant and dose-dependent protection against occlusioninduced deep venous thrombosis in rats. alpha-Synuclein aggregation is centrally implicated in Parkinson's disease (PD). It involves multi-step nucleated polymerization process via the formation of dimers, soluble toxic oligomers and insoluble fibrils. In the present study, we synthesized a novel compound viz., Curcumin-glucoside (Curc-gluc), a modified form of curcumin and studied its anti-aggregating potential with alpha-synuclein. Under aggregating conditions in vitro, Curc-gluc prevents oligomer formation as well as inhibits fibril formation indicating favorable stoichiometry for inhibition. The binding efficacies of Curc-gluc to both alpha-synuclein monomeric and oligomeric forms were characterized by micro-calorimetry. It was observed that titration of Curc-gluc with alpha-synuclein monomer yielded very low heat values with low binding while, in case of oligomers, Curc-gluc showed significant binding. Addition of Curc-gluc inhibited aggregation in a dose-dependent manner and enhanced alpha-synuclein solubility, which propose that Curc-gluc solubilizes the oligomeric form by disintegrating preformed fibrils and this is a novel observation. Overall, the data suggest that Curc-gluc binds to alpha-synuclein oligomeric form and prevents further fibrillization of alpha-synuclein; this might aid the development of disease modifying agents in preventing or treating PD.

Soil-cement blocks are employed for load bearing masonry buildings. This paper deals with the study on the influence of bed joint thickness and elastic properties of the soil-cement blocks, and the mortar on the strength and behavior of soil-cement block masonry prisms. Influence of joint thickness on compressive strength has been examined through an experimental program. The nature of stresses developed and their distribution, in the block and the mortar of the soil-cement block masonry prism under compression, has been analyzed by an elastic analysis using FEM. Influence of various parameters like joint thickness, ratio of block to mortar modulus, and Poisson's ratio of the block and the mortar are considered in FEM analysis. Some of the major conclusions of the study are: (1) masonry compressive strength is sensitive to the ratio of modulus of block to that of the mortar (Eb/Em) and masonry compressive strength decreases as the mortar joint thickness is increased for the case where the ratio of block to mortar modulus is more than 1; (2) the lateral tensile stresses developed in the masonry unit are sensitive to the Eb/Em ratio and the Poisson's ratio of mortar and the masonry unit; and (3) lateral stresses developed in the masonry unit are more sensitive to the Poisson's ratio of the mortar than the Poisson's ratio of the masonry unit.

Apoptosis is a tightly controlled process in which cell death is executed through activation of specific signalling pathways. Within cells, there are positive and negative regulatory pathways of apoptosis, hence it is targeted as 'Double-edged sword', the balance between these pathways dictates the cell fate. The past decade has seen intense focus on the mechanisms of apoptosis. Many important observations on the various signalling pathways mediating apoptotic cell death have been made and our understanding of the importance of apoptosis in both normal growth and development and patho-physiology has greatly increased. In addition, mechanisms of metal-induced toxicity continue to be of interest given the ubiquitous nature of these contaminants. The purpose of this review is to summarize our current understanding of the apoptotic pathways that are initiated by metals in Alzheimer's disease. Increased understanding of metal-induced (direct) and metal-amyloid-beta (indirect) linked neuronal cell death through the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is critical to illuminate mechanisms of metal-induced cell death, as well as the potential role of metal speciation in neurodegeneration.

Spectroscopic study on the interactions of trace elements Co, Mn, Mg and Al with d(GCGTACGC) indicated the following: Al and Mg did not alter T-m values. Mn enhanced T-m at lower concentration and decreased it at higher concentrations. Interestingly Co at higher concentration elevated the T-m. These studies also showed lower concentrations of Mn displaced EtBr, whereas Al could displace it at higher ionic strength. Mg and Co displaced EtBr fluorescence at moderate concentrations. The binding constant values and CD spectra clearly indicated strong binding of these elements to DNA.
