5. Bandgap study of quantum dot-sized SiGe alloy nanocrystals prepared in a nonthermal capacitively-coupled plasma by ambient scanning tunneling spectroscopy

Abstract

The manuscript aims to elucidate the evolution of the bandgap and the semiconducting nature of quantum dot-sized SiGe alloy nanocrystals prepared at different plasma conditions in VHF PECVD. The technique of scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) is used for this, considering its highly localized nature, and to study the individual NCs. The STS analysis gives the density of states (DOS) spectrum of the SiGe alloy NCs. The present STS study reveals a dependence of the bandgap of SiGe alloy NCs on plasma parameters. The SiGe alloy NCs also exhibited a shallow p-type character despite the fact that no dopants were used during the deposition. Besides this, the midgap defect states are also observed in some of the samples. Further, a comparative bandgap study of the SiGe alloy NCs with its bulk indicates quantum confinement. These new findings from the QD-sized SiGe alloy NCs are important for the conceptual design and practical development of quantum dot-based third-generation solar cells.

Abstract

Purpose: Coffin-Siris and Nicolaides-Baraitser syndromes are recognizable neurodevelopmental disorders caused by germline variants in BAF complex subunits. The SMARCC2 BAFopathy was recently reported. Herein, we present clinical and molecular data on a large cohort.Methods: Clinical symptoms for 41 novel and 24 previously published affected individuals were analyzed using the Human Phenotype Ontology. For genotype-phenotype correlations, molecular data were standardized and grouped into non-truncating and likely gene-disrupting (LGD) variants. Missense variant protein expression and BAF-subunit interactions were examined using 3D protein modeling, co-immunoprecipitation, and proximity-ligation assays.Results: Neurodevelopmental delay with intellectual disability, muscular hypotonia, and behavioral disorders were the major manifestations. Clinical hallmarks of BAFopathies were rare. Clinical presentation differed significantly, with LGD variants being predominantly inherited and associated with mildly reduced or normal cognitive development, whereas non -truncating variants were mostly de novo and presented with severe developmental delay. These distinct manifestations and non-truncating variant clustering in functional domains suggest different pathomechanisms. In vitro testing showed decreased protein expression for N-terminal missense variants similar to LGD.Conclusion: This study improved SMARCC2 variant classification and identified discernible SMARCC2-associated phenotypes for LGD and non-truncating variants, which were distinct from other BAFopathies. 01 februari 2023, Item does not contain fulltext, BACKGROUND: Congenital myasthenic syndromes (CMS) are a heterogeneous group of disorders caused by genetic defects resulting in impaired neuromuscular transmission. Although effective treatments are available, CMS is probably underdiagnosed, and systematic clinico-genetic investigations are warranted. METHODS: We used a nationwide approach to collect Austrian patients with genetically confirmed CMS. We provide a clinical and molecular characterization of this cohort and aimed to ascertain the current frequency of CMS in Austria. RESULTS: Twenty-eight cases with genetically confirmed CMS were identified, corresponding to an overall prevalence of 3.1 per million (95% CI 2.0-4.3) in Austria. The most frequent genetic etiology was CHRNE (n = 13), accounting for 46.4% of the cohort. Within this subgroup, the variant c.1327del, p.(Glu443Lysfs*64) was detected in nine individuals. Moreover, causative variants were found in DOK7 (n = 4), RAPSN (n = 3), COLQ (n = 2), GMPPB (n = 2), CHAT (n = 1), COL13A1 (n = 1), MUSK (n = 1) and AGRN (n = 1). Clinical onset within the first year of life was reported in one half of the patients. Across all subtypes, the most common symptoms were ptosis (85.7%), lower limb (67.9%), upper limb (60.7%) and facial weakness (60.7%). The majority of patients (96.4%) received specific treatment, including acetylcholinesterase inhibitors in 20, adrenergic agonists in 11 and 3,4-diaminopyridine in nine patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our study presents the first systematic characterization of individuals with CMS in Austria, providing prevalence estimates and genotype-phenotype correlations that may help to improve the diagnostic approach and patient management.

Contains fulltext : 299984.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access), PURPOSE: Coffin-Siris and Nicolaides-Baraitser syndromes are recognizable neurodevelopmental disorders caused by germline variants in BAF complex subunits. The SMARCC2 BAFopathy was recently reported. Herein, we present clinical and molecular data on a large cohort. METHODS: Clinical symptoms for 41 novel and 24 previously published affected individuals were analyzed using the Human Phenotype Ontology. For genotype-phenotype correlations, molecular data were standardized and grouped into non-truncating and likely gene-disrupting (LGD) variants. Missense variant protein expression and BAF-subunit interactions were examined using 3D protein modeling, co-immunoprecipitation, and proximity-ligation assays. RESULTS: Neurodevelopmental delay with intellectual disability, muscular hypotonia, and behavioral disorders were the major manifestations. Clinical hallmarks of BAFopathies were rare. Clinical presentation differed significantly, with LGD variants being predominantly inherited and associated with mildly reduced or normal cognitive development, whereas non-truncating variants were mostly de novo and presented with severe developmental delay. These distinct manifestations and non-truncating variant clustering in functional domains suggest different pathomechanisms. In vitro testing showed decreased protein expression for N-terminal missense variants similar to LGD. CONCLUSION: This study improved SMARCC2 variant classification and identified discernible SMARCC2-associated phenotypes for LGD and non-truncating variants, which were distinct from other BAFopathies. Abstract

Die Studie beinhaltet eine historisch-poetologische Untersuchung von PsSal 9 im Kontext der sogenannten Psalmen Salomos. Sie analysiert die Aufbauprinzipien der Sammlung und bezieht diachrone sowie synchrone Zugange ein. Einen hermeneutischen Neuansatz bietet das Werk, indem es die Adaquatheit der Ansatze aus der Psalmenforschung fur die PsSal evaluiert. Dies wird exemplarisch an PsSal 9, der als Zentrum der Sammlung gilt, uberpruft. In der Studie werden Form, Semantik, Pragmatik, intertextuelle Bezuge sowie die syrische Version von PsSal 9 untersucht. Hinzu kommen zentrale Themen wie Exil und Restauration sowie die Frage nach Gerechtigkeit und Sunde. Es zeigt sich, dass die PsSal kleinraumige Sammlungen sind. Abhangig davon, welches Strukturmerkmal betrachtet wird, verandert sich das Verstandnis der pseudepigraphischen Psalmen. PsSal 9 rekurriert auf bedeutende Bezugspunkte, wie Exil und Exodus, und verknupft verschiedene Traditionen. Da die Psalmensammlung form- und strukturpragend fur die PsSal ist, zeigt sich die Relevanz einer psalterexegetischen Herangehensweise auch jenseits der kanonischen Psalmen.

Abstract

We investigated chemical sputtering of silicon films by Hy+ ions (with y being 2 and 3) in an asymmetric VHF Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) discharge in detail. In experiments with discharges created with pure H2 inlet flows, we observed that more Si was etched from the powered than from the grounded electrode, and this resulted in a net deposition on the grounded electrode. With experimental input data from a power density series of discharges with pure H2 inlet flows, we were able to model this process with a chemical sputtering mechanism. The obtained chemical sputtering yields were (0.3-0.4) ± 0.1 Si atom per bombarding Hy+ ion at the grounded electrode and at the powered electrode the yield ranged from (0.4 to 0.65) ± 0.1. Subsequently, we investigated the role of chemical sputtering during PECVD deposition with a series of silane fractions SF (SF(%)=[SiH4]/[H2]*100) ranging from SF=0% to 20%. We experimentally observed that the SiHy+ flux is not proportional to SF but decreasing from SF=3.4% to 20%. This counterintuitive SiHy+ flux trend was partly explained by an increasing chemical sputtering rate with decreasing SF and partly by the reaction between H3+ and SiH4 that forms SiH3+.
