Ulat grayak Spodoptera frugiperda yang dikenal dengan nama Fall Armyworm (FAW) merupakan hama asli daerah tropis dari Amerika, namun pada bulan Maret 2019 hama ini telah masuk dan menyerang pertanaman jagung yang ada di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kerusakan beberapa varietas tanaman jagung (Zea mays) yang diserang hama ulat grayak (Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith). Lokasi penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Hama Balai Pengkajian Teknologi Pertanian Kota Jambi selama bulan Juli 2019 hingga Agustus 2019. Bahan yang digunakan yaitu tanaman jagung varietas Nasa 29, Bisi 2, Srikandi Kuning, Sukmaraga, Bisma, dan Lamuru umur 2 minggu setelah semai. Larva FAW instar 3. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 6 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Setiap varietas tanaman jagung diinfestasikan 1 larva dan diamati tingkat kerusakannya setiap hari selama larva berada pada fase instar 3. Hasil penelitian kerusakan tanaman jagung pada semua varietas yang diinfestasi ulat grayak S. frugiperda menunjukkan tidak berpengaruh nyata, namun pada jagung varietas Bisi 2 menyebabkan kerusakan paling parah dibandingkan dengan varietas lain dengan tingkat kerusakan sebesar 49,13 %. Varietas Srikandi Kuning memiliki persentase kerusakan 38,06%, Nasa 29 sebesar 28,99 %, Bisma sebesar 28,90%, Lamuru sebesar 38,58% dan varietas yang persentase kerusakan terendah adalah Sukmaraga dengan 27,51%.

Rubiana et al, 2018. The Assessment of Insect Diversity and Community Structure in the Former Area of Coal Mining Reclamation in Muaro Jambi District, Jambi Province. JLSO 7(1): Recovery of land and ecosystems in the form of reclamation is expected to restore lost biodiversity. The success of reclamation can be seen from the recovery of ecosystems and biodiversity in it. However, the study of biodiversity on reclaimed land in Indonesia is still limited to vegetation and has not seen groups of animals especially insects. Insects have a very important functional role in the ecosystem, therefore they can be used as objects of diversity studies in the reclamation area. This study aimed to study the diversity and functional role of insects in the reclamation area. The study was conducted in the reclamation area of a former coal mine in Muaro Jambi Regency. The study area consisted of two different revegetation ages and two different plants. The method of insect collection is by installing pitfall traps with five replications for 2 x 24 hours. The insects were collected from the pitfall trap then identified to the morphospecies level. The results showed that most of the Coleoptera, Diptera, Hymenoptera and Othroptera insects were found in the reclamation area. Insect diversity is influenced by the age of reclamation. One year of reclamation had a lower species than insect age of two years. Based on the results of the analysis show that the composition of insect species showed differences at different reclamation ages. The older the age of reclamation, the composition of insect species tended to resemble the composition of insect species in the forest.

Activities of oil palm rejuvenation started in 2017 in Jambi Province. On replanting land, oil palms were intercropped with food crops (maize) while waiting for oil palm yield. Some constraints of food crop cultivation, including corn, is a pest attack. This study aims to determine the pest attack on maize plantations in oil palm replanting land. The research was conducted at maize plantation in oil palm replanting land in Talang Bukit and Marga Mulya Village, Sungai Bahar District, Muaro Jambi Regency from April to July 2019. This research used survey methods with 1 to 2 ha areas in each location during the maize’s vegetative and generative phases. Morphology or symptoms of the attack, pest morphology, and the percentage of pest attacks observed in this study. The research result showed that the primary pest attacks in the maize’s vegetative phase were Spodoptera frugiperda Fall Armyworm, which attacks the percentage reaching 93.45%, and then Spodoptera litura Armyworm, and Mythimna separata. Pest attacks at the generative phase of corn plants were S. frugiperda, S. litura, Rhopalosiphum maidis aphids, Ostrinia furnacalis stem borer, Helicoverpa armigera, respectively is 23.92%; 10.14%; 0.27%; 21.22%; 34.23%. Meanwhile, the damage caused by wild boars reached 27.56%, and 5.68% showed by the monkey.

Sugarcane can be cultivated in diverse agroecosystems, so it has the potential attack of different pest. The study on the biodiversity of insects in sugarcane plantations at different altitudes has the objective to study the insect community structures that are useful in making decisions in integrated pest control. The study was conducted on sugarcane plantations in the highlands and lowlands areas, i.e Kerinci and Muaro Jambi Regency. The insect sample was identified to morphospecies level. The results showed that the altitude did not affect the diversity of insects in the sugarcane agrosystem, nevertheless the altitude affected the abundance of pests attacked. Interestingly, Sesamia was only found attack the sugarcane in the highlands area. Ants (Hymenoptera) causing hollow stems of plants. The intensity of attacks in the highlands ranges 36 - 76%, while in the lowlands 28 - 40% rate of cell division resulting in bacterial colonization and motility approaching the fungal pathogen.

The Ministry of Agriculture has optimism that soybean self-sufficiency can be realized in 2018. Consistency to stay on track that has been targeted has made Soybean Seed Management Unit (UPBS) activities accelerate with the technology of seed multiplication to supply quality seeds. This study examined the dissemination of technology and the existence of local knowledge, especially on consumption farmers to breeders as the output of UPBS activities. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method through literature studies and studies in the social field to explore the potential, roles, constraints and opportunities faced by farmers and soybean seed breeders related to local knowledge. The data collected consists of secondary and primary data. Benefit and Cost Ratio (B/C Ratio) analysis to determine the feasibility of changing consumption farmers to breeder farmers. The results show that farmers’ local knowledge changes with technology dissemination. Changes occurred in the use of quality seeds of New Superior Varieties (VUB) with the application of soybean integrated crop management (PTT) models that were able to increase yields 16-27%. Local knowledge maintained in terms of attack control and infestation of plant pests (OPT) in the concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). In this case, local knowledge of breeder farmers can compensate for location-specific technology. At the field level, a combination of technology and local knowledge was followed by an increase in income from consumer farmers to B/C soybean growers. The ratio of consumption farmers to 1.45 increased to 1.69 for breeder farmers.

Coffee of Liberika Tungkal Komposit (Libtukom) is a superior commodity that adapts well to the peatlands in West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province. Libtukom coffee, which has a distinctive flavor, is the main source of income for the community in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. The problems in the cultivation of Libtukom coffee include pests and diseases. This study aimed to provide information on the type of pests and diseases that attack Libtukom coffee. The study was conducted in March-September 2017. Data were obtained from direct observation (primary data) and other sources (secondary data). Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that some of the pests that attack Libtukom Coffee were coffee fruit borer, white lice, and stem borer, with intensity of mild-moderate attacks. Diseases that can infect leaves Libtukom Coffee were mainly (rust and red rust) and roots (root fungi). White root fungus attack is the main problem of Libtukom coffee in peatland, Jambi Province. Farmers generally recognize the root fungus infection, which was already found in more than 30% of the plant population.

Smallholder-dominated agricultural mosaic landscapes are highlighted as model production systems that deliver both economic and ecological goods in tropical agricultural landscapes, but trade-offs underlying current land-use dynamics are poorly known. Here, using the most comprehensive quantification of land-use change and associated bundles of ecosystem functions, services and economic benefits to date, we show that Indonesian smallholders predominantly choose farm portfolios with high economic productivity but low ecological value. The more profitable oil palm and rubber monocultures replace forests and agroforests critical for maintaining above- and below-ground ecological functions and the diversity of most taxa. Between the monocultures, the higher economic performance of oil palm over rubber comes with the reliance on fertilizer inputs and with increased nutrient leaching losses. Strategies to achieve an ecological-economic balance and a sustainable management of tropical smallholder landscapes must be prioritized to avoid further environmental degradation., Small-scale farmers in Southeast Asia are increasingly turning to monocultures of oil palm and rubber to maximize income. Clough and colleagues demonstrate that this land-use change in Indonesia comes at a cost to a wide array of ecosystem functions and biodiversity.

High intensity of disease infection and the intensive use of fertilizers and pesticidescause saturated fertilizer and pesticide to the land. Remediation using biochar rice husk is one of the technology to decrease fertilizer and pesticide residue. The diversity of soil insects can be used as bioindicators because of their existence dependsg on soil structure and condition. This study was aimed to study the diversity and structure communities of soil insect in potatoes on difference husk rice biochar application. The sampling of soil insects was done on potato farmer's land with four treatments i.e control (farmers' technique), trichokompos without biochar, trichokompos + biochar with dose 1 ton/ha, and trichokompos + biochar with dose 2 ton / ha. At each point a single pitfall trap was installed for two nights and then it was taken for identification. The results showed that biochar application had significant effect on the number of soil insect species (P = 0.037). The soil insect species composition pattern also showed significant differences between the four treatments (R: 0.2306, Pvalue = 0.001). This mean that the application of biochar affects the number of insects species and plays a role in the formation of soil insect diversity beta patterns.
