Purpose Rapid accessibility of (intensive) medical care can make the difference between life and death. Initial care in case of strokes is highly dependent on the location of the patient and the traffic situation for supply vehicles. In this methodologically oriented paper we want to determine the inequivalence of the risks in this respect. Methods Using GIS we calculate the driving time between Stroke Units in the district of Münster, Germany for the population distribution at day- & nighttime. Eight different speed scenarios are considered. In order to gain the highest possible spatial resolution, we disaggregate reported population counts from administrative units with respect to a variety of factors onto building level. Results The overall accessibility of urban areas is better than in less urban districts using the base scenario. In that scenario 6.5% of the population at daytime and 6.8% at nighttime cannot be reached within a 30-min limit for the first care. Assuming a worse traffic situation, which is realistic at daytime, 18.1% of the population fail the proposed limit. Conclusions In general, we reveal inequivalence of the risks in case of a stroke depending on locations and times of the day. The ability to drive at high average speeds is a crucial factor in emergency care. Further important factors are the different population distribution at day and night and the locations of health care facilities. With the increasing centralization of hospital locations, rural residents in particular will face a worse accessibility situation.

Zur Gestaltung zukunftsrobuster Fabriken ist es erforderlich, langfristige Trends und Entwicklungen in die Fabrikplanung einzubeziehen. Die Zukunftsforschung befasst sich mit der systematischen Erkundung der Zukunft und verfügt zu diesem Zweck über eine Vielzahl an Methoden. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird ausgehend von den Anforderungen der Fabrikplanung hergeleitet, welche Methoden für den Anwendungsfall geeignet sind. Weiterhin wird dargestellt, inwiefern diese Methoden an die Anforderungen der Fabrikplanung angepasst werden müssen.

Ziel des Beitrags ist die Untersuchung und Bewertung der Erreichbarkeit der Bevölkerung durch ambulante Pflegedienste in Unterfranken unter Einbeziehung der räumlich differenzierten Bevölkerungsstruktur für das Jahr 2017 sowie der voraussichtlichen demographischen Entwicklung bis 2025. Die Erreichbarkeiten werden sowohl rasterbasiert als auch vektorbasiert in einer GIS-Software modelliert. Darüber hinaus werden demographische Entwicklungen in der Altersgruppe "80 Jahre und älter" eingebunden. Die Ergebnisse der rasterbasierten Fahrzeitenmodellierung zeigen flächenhaft relativ gute Erreichbarkeiten, mit Ausnahme weniger peripherer Gebiete. Mittels vektorbasierter Fahrzeitenmodellierung werden Einzugsgebiete, welche auf Personalkosten und Anfahrtspauschalen nach SGB V und SGB XI als Berechnungsgrundlagen basieren, für ambulante Pflegedienste berechnet. Es zeigt sich, dass in Teilen Unterfrankens keine ausreichende Kostendeckung gegeben ist. Hinsichtlich der skizzierten Bevölkerungsentwicklung sowie unzureichender Fahrtkostendeckung im Bereich der Mittelgebirge und abseits der Verdichtungsräume wird eine Flexibilisierung der Anfahrtsvergütung sowie eine Aufstockung des Pflegepersonals empfohlen. The aim of this paper is to analyse the accessibility of outpatient care services in Lower Franconia, Germany, taking into account the spatially differentiated population structure for the year 2017 as well as the expected demographic development until 2025. The accessibility was modelled both raster-based and vector-based in a GIS software. Moreover, demographic developments in the age group "80 years and older" are also incorporated. The results of the raster-based travel time modelling show relatively good accessibility in the study area except from a few peripheral areas. Catchment areas for outpatient care services were calculated using vector-based travel time modelling, drawing on travel flat rates according to SGB V and SGB XI as well as staff costs as calculation bases for threshold values. In parts of Lower Franconia there is no sufficient cost coverage. With regard to the population development outlined above and insufficient coverage of travel costs by flat-rate travel allowances in low mountain ranges and away from urban agglomerations, a transition to a flexible travel compensation for nursing services and an increase in nursing staff is recommended.

In Deutschland erscheint Fußball als omnipräsent: Fußballprofis gelten als Vorbilder und Werbeträger, Fußballvereine fungieren als regionale und teilweise als globale Wirtschaftsunternehmen, Fußballspiele als gesellschaftliche Ereignisse und Fußballmannschaften – sowohl auf regionaler als auch auf nationaler Ebene – als identitätsstiftend. Unbestritten weist das Phänomen Fußball eine große Gesellschaftsrelevanz auf, und so verwundert es nicht, dass es als Gegenstand wissenschaftlicher und eben auch geographischer Abhandlungen fungiert. Der vorliegende Band richtet sich nun an Geographiestudenten und Fußballinteressierte, die sich verwundert fragen mögen, was Geographien des Fußballs bedeuten könnte. Der Band veranschaulicht exemplarisch, was geographische Perspektiven auf den Forschungsgegenstand Fußball auszeichnen und welche Themenfelder und Fragestellungen sich für eine Erforschung anbieten. Dabei reicht das in diesem Band vorgestellte Themenspektrum von raumbezogenen Sprachcodierungen in Spielanalysen über Stadionatmosphäre und Fanidentitäten bis hin zu medial erzeugten Unsicherheitsräumen. This volume is addressed towards students of geography as well as football enthusiasts—both of whom might ask in bewilderment what geographies of football could be all about. The volume will exemplify what distinguishes geographical perspectives on the research topic of football, and which subject areas and scientific issues offer themselves for research. The range of subjects extends from spatial language encoding in match analyses, over stadium atmosphere and fan identity, up to places of uncertainty created by the media.

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurden neuartige, temperatursensitive Polymerbürsten mit terminaler Click-Funktionalität hergestellt, die nicht nur im Detail untersucht bzw. charakterisiert wurden, sondern deren Eigenschaften zusätzlich durch die polymeranaloge Umsetzung mit einem entsprechend modifizierten Fluoreszenzfarbstoff, Polymer oder mit superparamagnetischen Nanopartikeln erweitert werden konnten. Mittels kontrolliert radikalischer Polymerisation wurde mono- und bi-funktionalisiertes Poly(N-isopropylacrylamid) mit unterschiedlichen Endgruppen und Molekulargewichten synthetisiert und über das "grafting to"-Verfahren an eine Modeloberfläche angebunden. Die kovalente Anbindung der entsprechenden Komponenten erfolgte entweder durch die Kupfer-katalysierte oder thermisch induzierte Alkin-Azid-Cycloaddition. Neben den physiko-chemischen Eigenschaften wurde im Besonderen das temperaturabhängige Schaltverhalten dieser funktionellen Polymerbürsten in situ untersucht, wobei neben der spektroskopischen Ellipsometrie als Hauptmethode, zusätzlich Rasterkraftmikroskopie, UV/VIS- und Fluoreszenzspektroskopie, sowie Elektronenmikroskopie verwendet wurden. Im Fall der Farbstoff-modifizierten Polymerbürsten zeigte sich, dass nicht nur die Eigenschaften des Farbstoffs durch das Polymer beeinflussbar sind, sondern auch das Quellverhalten der Polymerbürsten durch den Farbstoff. Die mit Nanopartikeln modifizierten Polymerbürsten zeigten eine homogene Verteilung der Partikel auf der Oberfläche, sowie eine veränderte Schaltcharakteristik, die durch das Auftreten eine dynamischen Wechselwirkungszone zwischen den Polymerbürsten und den Nanopartikeln erklärt werden kann. Mit Hilfe der thermisch induzierten Azid-Alkin-Cycloaddition konnten erstmalig definierte Kettenverlängerungen an Polymerbürsten durchgeführt und gleichzeitig der Nachteil der limitierten Pfropfungsdichte der „grafting to“-Methode überwunden werden. Darüber hinaus konnte der temperaturinduzierte Schalteffekt nicht nur erhalten bleiben, sondern in Bezug auf die Schaltamplitude auch signifikant vergrößert werden und ergab ein sensitiveres, verbessertes Polymerbürstensystem.

Here, we report on a new temperature responsive polymer brush system with a terminal “click” functionality. Bifunctionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNiPAAm) with distinct functional end groups was synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and grafted to a modified silicon substrate. The presence of the active terminal alkyne functionality is validated using an azide-modified rhodamine B (N3-RhB) via copper(I) catalyzed alkyne–azide cycloaddition (CuAAC). The optical properties and swelling dynamics of an N3-RhB modified PNiPAAm brush are analyzed in dry state and in situ by VIS-spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE). The best-fit results are obtained using a Gaussian oscillator model and are confirmed by UV/VIS-spectroscopy. We observed evidence of interactions between the aromatic residues of the dye and the PNiPAAm amide groups, which significantly affect the swelling behavior of the modified polymer brush. By mixing the achiral liquid crystal HOAB, exhibiting a nematic (N)-smectic-C (SmC) mesophase sequence, with the chiral antiferroelectric liquid crystal (AFLC) (S,S)-M7BBM7, forming the antiferroelectric SmCa phase, at least seven different mesophases have been induced which neither component forms on its own: a twist-grain-boundary (TGB) phase, two or three blue phases, the untilted SmA phase, as well as all three chiral smectic-C-type ``subphases,'' SmCalpha, SmCbeta, and SmCgamma. The nature of the induced phases and the transitions between them were determined by means of optical and electro-optical investigations, dielectric spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. The induced phases can to a large extent be understood as a result of frustration, TGB at the border between nematic and smectic, the subphases between syn and anticlinic tilted smectic organization. X ray scattering experiments reveal that the smectic layer spacing as well as the degree of smectic order is relatively constant in the whole mixture composition range in which AFLC behavior prevails, whereas both these parameters rapidly decrease as the amount of HOAB is increased to such an extent that no other smectic-C-type phase than SmC/SmC exists. By tailoring the composition we are able to produce liquid crystal mixtures exhibiting unusual phase sequences, e.g., with a direct isotropic-SmCa transition or a temperature range of the SmCbeta subphase of about 50 K. By mixing a bistereogenic antiferroelectric liquid crystal (AFLC) compound, exhibiting only the SmQ and SmCa mesophases, with the achiral N-SmC liquid crystal HOAB we could induce all three AFLC SmC-type subphases, SmCalpha, SmCbeta and SmCgamma. This seems to be in contradiction with two recent postulations regarding the subphase stability, one of which suggests that the subphases appear as a result of strong chiral interactions, the other that these phases require high smectic order something one would generally not expect in mixtures. We have studied the helical pitch, optical tilt angle, spontaneous polarization and the x-ray diffraction due to the smectic layering, as a function of mixing ratio in order to better understand the relation between phase sequence and mixture composition. The smectic layer spacing shows a strongly non-linear behavior suggesting that the basic structure of the pure AFLC substance is retained up to a HOAB content of about 75\%.
