Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of various sintering procedures on the color parameters, marginal, and internal fit of zirconia crowns. Materials and Methods: Overall, 60 zirconia crowns were produced using 3 distinct zirconia blocks (Wieland Zenostar, Zirkonzahn Ice Translucent, and Zirkonzahn Prettau). For the sintering procedure of the crowns, six groups were created as follows: Wieland-Standard, Wieland-Speed, Ice-Standard, Ice-Speed, Prettau-Slow, and Prettau-Standard programs. The crowns were assigned into groups ( n = 10 in each group). The color parameters, marginal fit, and internal fit of the crowns were evaluated. The normality of data distribution was evaluated with the Kolmogrov–Smirnov test. Two independent samples t-test and Mann–Whitney U test were used to compare the sintering groups. Results: Acceleration of sintering caused a significant change in the color parameters of the Wieland and Ice groups but not in the Prettau group. In the Wieland group, marginal ( p = .047) and internal ( p = .004) gap values of speed sintering were found to be significantly lower than those in standard sintering. In the Ice group, the marginal gap values of speed sintering were found to be significantly lower than those in standard sintering ( p = .019). In the Prettau group, the marginal gap values of standard sintering were found to be significantly higher ( p = .035) than those in slow sintering. Conclusions: It was concluded that the effects of sintering procedures on color parameters, and internal and marginal fit of zirconia crowns were clinically insignificant. Speed sintering can be recommended for zirconia restorations.

Aim In this cross-sectional descriptive study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between the prevalence of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and oral parafunctions in dental assistant students and to evaluate the effects of gender and education years. Methods The results of 105 individuals (mean age: 20.72 ± 3.51 years; 75 females, 30 males) were analyzed in this descriptive cross-sectional study, which included student participants who received dental assistant education program from Erciyes University Vocational Health College. The Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) questionnaire was used to define the presence and symptoms of TMD, and the Oral Behavior Checklist (OBC) questionnaire was used to determine the oral parafunctions of individuals. Fisher's exact, Mann–Whitney U, Kendall tau-b, and Spearman correlation and linear regression analyses were used to evaluate the data. Results Any level of TMD was detected in 64.8% of all individuals included in the study, and most of these patients were women (74.3%). No significant difference was found between the TMD prevalence of the first- and second-grade students based on the years of education of the participants (p = 0.614). Considering the sex and class parameters, statistically significant weak (r = 0.378 for females; r = 0.375 for the first grade) and middle (r = 0.418 for males; r = 0.478 for the second grade) degree positive correlation was determined (p < 0.01) between the OBC and TMD scores for both parameters. Conclusion The prevalence of TMD is higher in dental assistant students, especially females, and this is associated with certain degrees of oral parafunctions.

Background: OHIP-EDENT is a shortened version of the Oral Health Impact Profile instrument The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the Turkish version of it (OHIP-EDENT-TR) for the elderly population in Turkey. Methods: A total of 120 edentulous patients (72 males, 48 females; mean age 65.59 ± 7.61 years) who had complete prostheses were included in the study. The patients completed the OHIP-EDENT-TR, which was translated during this study, and a visual analogue scale (100 mm) twice at an interval of 3 months. Cronbach’s alpha was used to measure the internal consistency of the summary scores for the OHIP-EDENT-TR. The interclass correlation coefficient and 95% confidence interval of the summary scores for the OHIP-EDENT-TR and its subscales were calculated. Results: The lowest and highest reliabilities were obtained for questions 7 (n = 120, α = 0.888) and 2 (α = 0.931), respectively. The reliability of the summary scores for the OHIP-EDENT-TR was good (α = 0.903). There was a significant relationship between the OHIPEDENT-TR scale and visual analogue scale scores (p < 0.001). These values were indicative of fair-to-excellent convergent validity. Conclusion: The Turkish version of OHIP EDENT (OHIP-EDENT-TR) is a reliable, valid and applicable scale for evaluating oral health related quality of life in the Turkish elderly patients., Amaç: OHIP-EDENT, Ağız Sağlığı Etki Profili aracının kısaltılmış bir versiyonudur. The purpose of this study was to compare dental anxiety levels among first-, second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-year dental students. To evaluate the level of dental anxiety against dental interventions, online questionnaires were applied to first year (n=96), second year (n=96), third year (n=109), fourth year (n=107) and fifth year (n=92) dental students. The students' demographic information (age, gender) was also recorded. These questionnaires included the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS). The students whose MDAS score was ≥19 were considered as highly anxious. The statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 24 (IBM SPSS, USA). This study was conducted with a total of 500 students including 220 male and 280 female students. The students with an MDAS score of 19 (having dental anxiety) were 23 people (4.6%) in total. No statistically significant difference was found between the class years of the students in terms of their mean MDAS scores (p: 0.387). To evaluate the prevalence of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in dental faculty students in different years of education and investigate the relationship between TMD and oral habits or quality of life.The Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) questionnaire was used to determine the prevalence and severity of TMD, the Oral Behaviors Checklist (OBC) questionnaire served to determine the severity of harmful oral habits/parafunctions and the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) questionnaire was used to evaluate the quality of life in a total of 452 dentistry students (269 women and 183 men) in different years of education.With regard to incidence of TMD, a total of 215 women had TMD (215/269, 79.9%), which was significantly higher than that in men (87/183, 47.5%) (P0.001). According to the OBC and OHIP-14 questionnaire results, harmful oral habits and quality of life showed a low to moderately significant correlation with TMD (P0.05).The Fonseca, OHIP-14 and OBC questionnaires allow early and inexpensive determination of oral habits that increase the prevalence of TMD. The prevalence of TMD in dentistry students at the clinical education stage is higher than those who have not progressed to the clinical education stage.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy of low-dose laser therapy to that of conservative treatment usingtwo different occlusal splints (stabilization and anterior repositioning splints) in patients with internalderangements of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Materials and Methods: The study populationconsisted of patients with disc displacement with reduction diagnosed according to the Research DiagnosticCriteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) Axis I and Axis II. In addition, disc displacement withreduction was confirmed in all patients using TMJ ultrasonography. These tests were conducted for 6 monthswith an interim control in the third month. The “clicking” sound from the joint on opening and closing themouth and the extent to which the mouth opened vertically and laterally were assessed. In all, 20 patientsreceived low-dose laser therapy, 20 were treated with a stabilization splint, and 20 were treated with ananterior repositioning splint. In addition, 10 untreated patients were included as a patient control group,and a further 10 healthy subjects were included as a healthy control group. Changes in the condition wereassessed based on the results of the RDC/TMD Axis II and with the use of an algometer. Results: Theanterior repositioning splint group showed improvement in the “clicking” sound during mouth opening.Lateral movement improved significantly in patients who received laser therapy. In the patient control group,the click disappeared during mouth opening, the algometrically determined pain improved, and the lateralmovement increased. There were no statistically significant differences between groups in the improvementof vertical mouth movement or in the clicking sound during mouth closing. Conclusion: Each treatmentmodality applied in this study separately produced positive results for the clicking sound, restrictions in verticaland lateral movements, and reduction of the pressure pain threshold observed in cases of TMJ irregularity.In conclusion, the decision regarding which treatment modality should be employed can be made based onthe patient’s symptoms. However, this study also indicates that TMJ derangements can resolve spontaneouslywhen left untreated.

In dentistry faculties, it is extremely important for student store port occupational injuries experienced during preclinical education, to identify problems according to these reports, and to educate students on these issues. Therefore, in this study, it was aimed to determine the different types of injuries that dentistry students are exposed to during preclinical education courses. First, second, and third year dental students were asked to complete anonymous questionnaires about the type of injuries they experienced during their preclinical education course, the number of injuries, and which preclinical education course they had. Descriptive statistics of the survey findings were made. 63.4% of the students reported that they were injured at least once in preclinical education courses. It was determined that the most common injury was burns caused by a spirit stove, while most injuries occurred in endodontic preclinical training courses. According to the findings of this study, the incidence of injury was found to be high in students during preclinical education. The rate of reporting an injury is very low. Obtaining this information may be useful in taking necessary measures to reduce the number of such injuries in the future and to raise students' awareness about this issue., Diş hekimliği fakültelerinde, klinik öncesi eğitimi sırasında öğrencilerin yaşadığı mesleki yaralanmaları rapor etmeleri, bu raporlara göre problemlerin tespit edilmesi ve bu konularda öğrencilerin eğitilmesi son derece önemlidir. Bu nedenle, bu çalışmada diş hekimliği öğrencilerinin klinik öncesi eğitim dersleri sırasında maruz kaldıkları farklı yaralanmaların belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Birinci, ikinci ve üçüncü sınıf diş hekimliği öğrencilerine, klinik öncesi eğitim dersleri boyunca yaşadıkları yaralanmaların türü, yaralanma sayısı ve hangi klinik öncesi eğitim dersinde meydana geldiği ile ilgili isimsiz anketleri doldurmaları istendi. Anket bulgularının tanımlayıcı istatistikleri yapıldı. Öğrencilerin %63.4’ü en az bir kez klinik öncesi eğitim derslerinde yaralandıklarını bildirdi. Öğrencilerin % 8’i ise beş defadan fazla yaralandığını bildirdi. En sık karşılaşılan yaralanmanın, ispirto ocağı ile meydana gelen yanık durumu olduğu, en fazla yaralanmanın ise endodonti klinik öncesi eğitim derslerinde meydana geldiği tespit edildi. Öğrencilerin %12,1’inin hepatit B aşısı olduğu belirlendi. Öğrencilerin sadece % 14.3’ünün yaralanma sonrasında durumu sorumlu öğretim üyesine bildirdiği görüldü. Bu çalışmanın bulgularına göre, klinik öncesi eğitim sırasında, öğrencilerde yaralanma görülme sıklığı yüksek bulundu. Yaralanmayı bildirme oranı ise oldukça düşüktür. Bu bilgilerin elde edilmesi, gelecekte bu tür yaralanmaların sayısını azaltmak adına gerekli önlemlerin alınması ve öğrencilerin bu konu ile ilgili farkındalıklarının artırılması için yararlı olabilir.

Aim: The aim of this study is to compare the diagnosis of patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangements which had been diagnosed using Research Diagnostic Criteria/Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) with the dynamic high resolution sonography findings. Settings and Design: Axis I section of RDC/TMD form had been applied to participants. Participants were divided into three groups as healthy TMJ, disc displacement with reduction, and disc displacement without reduction. The diagnoses had been compared with the dynamic high-resolution sonography findings. Materials and Methods: Twelve of the patients had been treated with laser therapy, whereas 13 patients were treated with stabilization splint. Seventeen patients were treated with anterior repositioning splint (n = 42). After the application of different treatment modalities, the position of the articular disc had been determined with Axis I of RDC/ TMD form and dynamic high-resolution sonography. The findings were compared and statistically analyzed. Statistical Analysis Used: Statistical analyses of data were analyzed with Turcosa Cloud (Turcosa Ltd Co, Turkey). Results: For the right TMJ, pretreatment and posttreatment ultrasonography (USG) diagnoses and RDC/ TMD clinical diagnoses were found similar (κ = 0.125–0.008). No statistically significant relationship was found (P > 0.05). For the left TMJ, pretreatment USG diagnosis and RDC/TMD clinical diagnose were found similar (κ = 0.070). No statistically significant relationship was found (P > 0.05). For the left TMJ, posttreatment USG diagnosis and RDC/TMD clinical diagnose were compared. A statistically significant difference was found (κ = 0.256). A statistically significant relationship was found (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Axis 1 of RDC/TMD form which is used for the diagnosis of internal derangements and dynamic high resolution sonography was not found in the agreement.

Amaç: Temporomandibular düzensizlik (TMD), çiğneme kasları ve temporomandibular eklemin ağrı ve fonksiyon bozukluğu ile karakterize, birçok etyolojik koşulu içeren bir rahatsızlıktır. Çiğneme kaslarında ağrı, ağız açmada kısıtlılık, mandibular harekette deviasyon ve eklem sesi gibi semptomlar ile ortaya çıkan rahatsızlığın etyolojisinde bruksizm, maloklüzyonlar, dejeneratif eklem hastalıkları gibi iç etkenlerin yanı sıra emosyonel durumların etkili olduğu çevresel dış etkenler de rol oynamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı; temporomandibular eklem iç düzensizliği olan hastaların yaş, cinsiyet, medeni durum, iş durumu ve eğitim durumu gibi demografik bilgilerinin incelenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Araştırmaya dahil edilen hastalar Erciyes Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi’ne temporomandibular eklemindeki problemden dolayı başvuran kişiler arasından randomize olarak seçilmiştir. Hastalardan bilgilendirilmiş onam formu alınmıştır. Çalışma toplamda 80 kişiyi kapsamaktadır. Bulgular: Araştırmadan elde edilen veriler incelendiğinde temporomandibular eklem iç düzensizliğinin kadınlarda erkeklere oranla (3.7/1) daha çok görüldüğü tespit edilmiştir. Yaş ortalamasının 26.90±10.33 olması, temporomandibular eklem iç düzensizliğinin gençlerde daha sık görüldüğünü ortaya koymuştur. Çalışmamızda medeni durum, eğitim durumu ve iş durumu ile hastalık arasında bir ilişki olmadığı saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Temporomandibular eklem iç düzensizliği kadınlarda erkeklere oranla daha çok görülmektedir. Yaş dağılımı hastalığa genç-orta yaş hastalığı kimliğini vermektedir. Çalışmamızda medeni durum, eğitim durumu ve iş durumu ile hastalık arasında bir ilişki olmadığı bildirilmiştir., Background: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a disorder that includes many etiological conditions, characterized by chewing muscles and pain and dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint. In addition to internal factors such as bruxism, malocclusions, degenerative joint diseases, environmental external factors play an important role in the etiology of the discomfort that occurs with symptoms such as pain in the chewing muscles, restricted mouth opening, deviation in the mandibular movement and joint sound. The purpose of this study; It is the examination of demographic information of patients with temporomandibular joint internal derangement such as age, gender, marital status, job status and educational status. Methods: The patients included in the study were randomly selected among those who applied to Erciyes University Faculty of Dentistry due to the problem in the temporomandibular joint. Informed consent form was taken from the patients. The study covers 80 people in total. Results: When the data obtained from the study were examined, it was found that the temporomandibular joint internal derangement was more common in women than in men (3.7 / 1). The average age of 26.90 ± 10.33 revealed that temporomandibular joint internal derangement was more common in young people. In our study, it was found that there was no relationship between marital status, education status and job status and disease. Conclusion: Temporomandibular joint internal derangement is more common in women than in men. Age distribution gives the disease the identity of young-middle age disease. In our study, it was reported that there was no relationship between marital status, education status and job status and disease.

Objectives: One of the most common treatment modalities for patients with a diagnosis of reduced disc displacement is occlusal splinting. Stabilization splints (SS) and anterior repositioning splints (ARS) are frequently used in such cases.Materials and Methods: The effects of these two splint types on patient satisfaction were evaluated in patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD). 25 healthy people with no pathology of the temporomandibular joint were included as a control group. ARS’s were used in 18 patients; all patients used the splints for 2 months. The splint was then converted into a stabilization splint for use for 1 further month. In the other 32 patients, a SS was used for 1 month. All the patients filled out the same temporomandibular questionnaire (TQ) again after the ARS was converted into a SS and had been used for 1 month.Results: The use of both types of splint significantly affected scores on the TQ (p < 0.05). There was a significant difference in questionnaire results among the control group, SS group, and ARS group before treatment (p < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in questionnaire results among the three groups after treatment (p > 0.05).Conclusion: These results indicate that the use of both ARS and SS significantly increased satisfaction among patients with TMD.
