The growing production of wood-based panels and the linked consumption result in a need for substituting standard wooden raw materials. The shortage of wood availability, as well as the increasing prices and a trend towards more environmentally friendly materials and processes, have encouraged the producers of wood-based products to consider extending the life cycle of wood composites. In the present work, the influence of substituting pine with spruce for industrial high-density fiberboards with 5% of recovered fibers was studied. Samples containing 0%, 25%, 50%, and 100% spruce fibers were tested in their mechanical resistance and their interaction with water. Boards from all samples met relevant standard requirements; however, the addition of spruce caused a decrease in mechanical properties, with homogeneity having the most significant influence. The modulus of rupture dropped up to 6% and the internal bond for 47% for samples having 50% of spruce. The most significant drop (50%) was observed for surface soundness for samples made with 100% spruce. Regarding physical properties, swelling increased up to 19% with 50% spruce; on the other hand, its water absorption decreased for up to 12%. The addition of spruce to industrial high-density fiberboards also influenced the formaldehyde content negatively, with an increase of up to 21% with 50% spruce. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sludge dewatering is an important process for determining the operation cost of sludge disposal. Hence, improving the dewaterability of anaerobically digested sludge containing high water content is of paramount significance. For this challenge, we developed a novel process in which fibrous materials initially collected from a primary sedimentation tank, namely recovered fibers, were used as an auxiliary agent to improve the dewaterability of anaerobically digested sludge. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using the developed process to improve sludge dewaterability. Three fibrous materials individually recovered from the respective primary sedimentation tanks in different wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) were used to investigate sludge dewaterability, organic C compositions, and calorific values. The recovered fibers showed comparable compositions irrespective of the WWTP. Six different WWTP sludge samples after anaerobic digestion were continuously supplied to three different dewatering devices, i.e., screw press, centrifuge, and belt press machines, with or without the supply of recovered fibers. Irrespective of the type of a dewatering device, the supply of recovered fibers mixed with the tested sludge samples at a feed ratio of 0.18–0.20 g-fibers/g-sludge (dry weight) reduced the amount of polymer flocculant by 13–50%, thereby displaying the superiority of the addition of recovered fibers. Furthermore, at fiber feed ratios of 0.20 g-fibers/g-sludge and 0.40 g-fibers/g-sludge when the rates of sludge supply and polymer flocculant were kept constant, the corresponding water contents in the dewatered sludge cakes decreased to about 74–76% and 69–72%, respectively. The consistent results regardless of the dewatering device or sludge sample showed the significance of the addition of recovered fibers for improvement in sludge dewaterability. Unconventional textiles can be obtained by strengthening the fibrous layer using wires, thereby achieving auxiliary materials for clothing, apparel linings, carpets. The fiber layers can be reinforced backing fabric using mechanical or mixed methods. The products are designed as filter materials, basic clothing. The global market for raw materials there is a continuing concern for material recovery specialists and their reintroduction into the economic cycle. Reconsideration materials as technological losses in production processes and in the sphere of consumption as factors polunaţi environment on the one hand and as a source of raw materials and energy, on the other hand, gave rise to different views regarding society's attitudes also potential resources and practical concepts that operate in these areas are unforgettable. Researches in order to create new unconventional textile fiber content of recyclable materials recovered were considered objectives: -The establishment of new wool upholstery variants which besides reusable textile fibers recovered to be entered and recovered fiber in textile products -Make per-lightweight textile per unit area that could be used in land drainage works on clay as filter elements covering plastic tubes.

What do you do after a product has served its function and is no longer needed? Ideally, you recycle it. What do you do if people have neglected or forgotten so much of what has been learned in recent years about paper recycling? Well, one of the things that someone can do is to write a book. Very little of the contents of such a book may be new. But the book itself can be highly valuable, representing a lot of effort to select and organized material that will be helpful for the current and upcoming generations of papermaking technologists.
