4. Cavity-coupled guided resonances with high quality factors in photonic crystal heterostructures

Abstract

We study the optical characteristics of a photonic crystal (PhC) heterostructure cavity consisting of two-dimensional monolayer PhC, sandwiched between two identical passive multilayers. In the range of stopband of the multilayer, guided resonance of the sandwiched PhC are excited by the evanescent waves of the multilayer stack and the quality factor of these cavity-coupled guided resonances is about 10e6. The calculated field distribution facilitates the distinction between the cavity defect modes and the coupled guided resonances of the proposed design. The line shapes of the resonances are explained using a theoretical model. Significant decrease in the lasing threshold is observed for these resonant modes in comparison to the defect modes. Abstract

The indoor and outdoor natural background gamma radiation levels were estimated at Devarakonda town with µR-survey meter and TLDs. It is observed that the measured average gamma radiation absorbed dose rate in the indoor and outdoor is 2240 ± 535 µGy y−1 and 2178 ± 288 µGy y−1, respectively and this dose rate is about three times higher than the national average. The frequency distribution of gamma radiation levels gave a conjecture that the gamma radiation levels in the study area deviating from normal distribution. An attempt has been made to understand the causative factor for gamma radiation levels in the dwellings and also calculated effective dose rate to the residents of the town. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this paper a hopping robot motion with offset mass is discussed. A mathematical model has been considered and an efficient single layered neural network has been developed to suit to the dynamics of the hopping robot, which ensures guaranteed tracking performance leading to the stability of the otherwise unstable system. The neural network takes advantage of the robot regressor dynamics that expresses the highly nonlinear robot dynamics in a linear form in terms of the known and unknown robot parameters. Time delays in the control mechanism play a vital role in the motion of hopping robots. The present work also enables us to estimate the maximum time delay admissible with out losing the guaranteed tracking performance. Abstract

Inferior vena cava (IVC) anomalies were rare and usually asymptomatic. Among these, anomalies absence of infra-renal IVC is the rarest anomaly. Absence of infra-renal IVC may present with symptoms of venous insufficiency and idiopathic deep vein thrombosis. Contrast enhanced CT and MRI abdomen play crucial role in diagnosing these anomalies. These patients can be managed conservatively or by venous bypass.
