Abstract

Proper evaluation of donor cornea is critical to the success of corneal transplantation. Attention must be paid to the cause of death and ocular condition as several general and ocular diseases constitute contraindications for donor corneal usage. Death to enucleation time should be noted. Gross examination and slit lamp biomicroscopy are mandatory for the evaluation of the donor eye while specular microscopy adds another useful dimension to information regarding donor cornea. This article provides a comprehensive review of all the aspects of donor corneal evaluation as practised today worldwide.

Abstract

We have fabricated active probes for on-wafer wave-form and network measurements. The probes incorporate GaAs nonlinear transmission line (NLTL) based network analyzer (NWA) integrated circuits and low-loss quartz coplanar-waveguide probe tips. The active probes show step response falltimes of 2.7 ps when excited by a 0.7-ps falltime input. Using these active probes, we demonstrate both waveform measurements with 2.7-ps risetime and network measurements to 200 GHz. We discuss the probe tip and NWA IC design, the hybrid assembly and mechanical design, and system design considerations. On-wafer waveform and S-parameter measurements of monolithic millimeter-wave integrated circuits are demonstrated.

Abstract

Due to intermittent natural energy resources and energy resources seasonal un-balance, a PV-wind hybrid electrical power supply system was developed for many remote locations where a conventional grid connection is inconvenient or expensive. While the hybrid system is also applicable with grid connection, owners are allowed to sell excess electricity back to the electric utility by using net meter. The proposed set-up consists of a photo-voltaic solar-cell array, a mast mounted wind generator, lead-acid storage batteries, an inverter unit to convert DC power to AC power, electrical lighting loads and electrical heating loads, several fuse and junction boxes and associated wiring, and test instruments for measuring voltages, currents, power factors, and harmonic contamination data throughout the system. The proposed hybrid solar-wind power generating system can be extensively used to illustrate electrical concepts in hands-on laboratories and demonstrations in the Industrial Technology curriculum. This paper describes an analysis of local PV-wind hybrid systems for supplying electricity to a private house, farmhouse or a small company with electrical power depending on the need at the site. Abstract

Gelatinous drop-like corneal dystrophy (GDLD) is a rare autosomal recessive disease characterized by the deposition of amyloid beneath the corneal epithelium and by severely impaired visual acuity leading to blindness. Although gelatinous corneal dystrophy has previously been mapped to chromosome 1p and seems to be associated with mutations in the M1S1 gene, molecular genetic studies have been limited to Japanese patients. To investigate the cause of GDLD in patients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, we performed linkage analyses in eight unrelated GDLD families from India, USA, Europe, and Tunisia. In seven of these families, the disease locus mapped to a 16-cM interval on the short arm of chromosome 1 between markers D1S519 and D1S2835, a region including the M1S1 gene. In addition, a 1.2-kb fragment containing the entire coding region of M1S1 gene was sequenced in affected individuals. Seven novel mutations (M1R, 8-bp ins., Q118 E, V194 E, C119 S, 870delC, and 1117delA) were identified in six families and two unrelated individuals. No sequence abnormalities were detected in a single family in which the GDLD locus was also excluded from the M1S1 region by linkage analysis. 40. Detecting FET Stuck-Open Faults in CMOS Latches And Flip-Flops

Abstract

The authors present evidence that conventional tests cannot detect FET stuck-open faults in several CMOS latches and flip-flops. Examples are given to show that stuck-open faults can change static latches and flip-flops into dynamic devices�a danger to circuits whose operation requires static memory, since undetected FET stuck-open faults can cause malfunctions. Designs are given for several memory devices in which all single FET stuck-open faults are detectable. These memory devices include common latches, master-slave flip-flops, and scan-path flip-flops that can be used in applications requiring static memory elements whose operation can be reliably ascertained through conventional fault testing methods.
