This article analyzes the relationship between the Andalusian daily press and the media conglomerates in Spain from the 20th century to the present day. It highlights that few Andalusian newspapers remain in local hands and that there is a large regional communication group. The importance of understanding media ownership to understand the identity of publications and the evolution of companies is emphasized. The emergence of New Journalism and its relationship with power and public opinion is also mentioned. It discusses the consolidation of the market economy and the capture of local press by large businessmen and politicians. Examples of businessmen and politicians who invested in the newspaper business are mentioned. It is highlighted that corporate press has evolved and adapted to new media such as radio, television, and the internet. Some prominent journalistic companies in Spain are mentioned. The article focuses on the period of the Spanish Transition from 1975, where there was an explosion of new media. Changes in ownership in the main Andalusian daily newspapers during the Spanish Transition and the 1980s are analyzed. The conversion of the Cadena de Prensa del Movimiento19 into the Medios de Comunicación Social del Estado (MCSE), which were later privatized in 1984, is highlighted. The strong penetration of foreign capital in the Spanish economy and the concentration of companies in the media sector are mentioned. The importance of local press in covering events and the opinion of local residents is emphasized. The two major communication groups, Grupo Correo and Prensa Ibérica, which absorbed several local newspapers, are mentioned. The methodology used in the study is described, which is based on the structural approach and analyzes the ownership connections of the media with other elements of power, such as economic, political, and media. The article talks about the history and evolution of the ABC de Sevilla newspaper. Founded in 1929 by Torcuato Luca de Tena y Álvarez-Ossorio, the newspaper was part of the Prensa Española company, controlled by the Luca de Tena family. During the Spanish Civil War, ABC de Sevilla took the place of the monarchist newspaper ABC de Madrid. After Franco's regime and the Transition, the newspaper experienced significant growth. In 2001, Grupo Correo acquired 80% of Prensa Española and merged with Vocento in 2003. Over the years, ABC de Sevilla has faced competition and has experienced a setback in its market position. The Luca de Tena family has had a strong influence on the newspaper, with monarchic and aristocratic connections. Vocento has continued to grow as a media conglomerate, expanding to other media and launching digital editions of its newspapers. The article discusses the history and political and economic connections of the newspapers ABC de Sevilla, Ideal, and El Correo de Andalucía. ABC de Sevilla, founded in 1929, has had connections with political forces such as Alianza Popular and the Union of Democratic Center. Ideal, founded in 1932, has been linked to Editorial Católica and has had shareholders related to Cadena COPE and Grupo PRISA. El Correo de Andalucía, founded in 1899, has been a conservative Catholic newspaper and has had links to the Catholic League and the National Catholic Action of Propagandists. Ideal and El Correo de Andalucía have been part of Grupo Correo and later Vocento. The article describes the history of the El Correo de Andalucía newspaper and the changes in its ownership over the years. The Second Vatican Council influenced the newspaper's commitment to the social doctrine of the Church, while the arrival of Bueno Monreal as Archbishop of Seville led to collaboration with EDICA. ABSTRACT – The poor performance of the Mexican press is a frequent concern in the literature. However, this focus is on the capital, Mexico City. Thus, we comparatively measure performance between regions and physical and digital media, based on criteria of bias and mediated deliberation. We analyzed 281 news articles from 117 newspapers in 28 states about the 2021 federal elections. We found that performance is better in robust markets and worse in smaller ones, and it is more homogeneous in print media than in digital media. The latter seems to be independent of market factors, which could indicate clientelist relationships linked to the economic vulnerability of smaller markets.

This study identifies the recurrent repertoires of covert prejudice in the regional press of three Greek islands (Lesvos, Chios, Samos) during the refugee crisis. Between 2015 and 2016, these islands were the first-line receiving communities for the many refugees and migrants who arrived in Europe through the Eastern Mediterranean route. This article applies a synthetic qualitative approach to discourse analysis, emphasizing the argumentation and narrative complexity of prejudiced discourse as articulated through the idiosyncratic prism of locality. By focusing our analysis on expressions of neo-racism, symbolic and aversive racism, our study identified five interpretative repertoires of prejudicial discourse: “superfluous bodies,” “threats of multiculturalism,” “agents of misery,” “bogus refugees,” and “capitalizing on the refugee crisis.”

The research featured the development of citizen journalism in Siberia in the early 1920s when the debates around societal challenges spilled onto the pages of periodicals. By focusing on the early New Economic Policy (NEP) narrative in the regional and local media, the author describes the difference between amateur and professional journalism. The campaign to promote the mass media and NEP was contingent on community debate, which addressed people’s worldview. In some cases, editors and citizen journalists used these topics to highlight the efforts of the local authorities and the effectiveness of media narratives. The narratives of the Soviet mass media and the early NEP made it possible to engage Siberians in public activities and develop a better understanding of working processes at the grassroots of the early Soviet society. The research was based on an interdisciplinary approach, which encompassed the history of everyday life and the relevant issues of journalism.

Background. Today, there is a difficult economic situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is accompanied by a number of negative social consequences: a decline in the standard of population’s living standart, an unemployment’s increase. Therefore, the experience of the new economic policy on finding ways to solve the problem of employment is still relevant. It is important not only to highlight the main methods of combating unemployment in the years of the NEP, but also to show the specifics characteristic of individual regions. The purpose of the work is a comprehensive analysis of this process based on the publications of the regional periodicals. Materials and methods. The source base of the research is the materials of the Penza newspaper “Trudovaya Pravda” for the period 1921– 1925. Formal-logical and comparative-historical methods are used. Results. Publications dealing with the problems of unemployment in the Penza region are investigated. The analysis of the main activities of local regional economic, state and trade union organizations to solve the problem of employment in the early 1920s is carried out. Special attention is paid to the social and professional composition of the unemployed, the activities of the labor exchange, and the work of groups of the unemployed. Conclusions. According to the analysis, it can be noted that the problems of unemployment received a lot of attention in the materials of the newspaper “Trudovaya Pravda”. Statistics on the number of unemployed were regularly published, the work of the labor exchange and the activities of trade unions in providing social and labor assistance were highlighted. There are no analytical articles and very rarely any information was accompanied by the author’s comment. But it is important to note the value of the factual material contained in the newspaper for the study of regional problems of unemployment.

LOCAL government , *PRESS , *TWENTY-first century - Abstract
In 1976 David Murphy wrote his critique of the role of the UK regional press in local politics—The Silent Watchdog: The Press in Local Politics. Through the next two decades, local 'papers of record' attempted to report on the activities and decisions of their local councils regularly and diligently but the decline of the regional press in the twenty-first century has rendered Murphy's critique obsolete. This article will look at what was expected of local journalism in the 1970s. It will show what was delivered until the twenty-first century and then look at how local press coverage of local government has declined, raising the scenario of a 'local democratic deficit'1 whereby local politics in some communities receives little direct coverage, creating a danger of a disconnect between local government and local communities caused by the abandonment of its former role by the regional press. POLITICAL corruption , *MASS media , *POLITICAL systems , *ATTRIBUTION (Social psychology) , *PRESS - Abstract
The mediatization of political scandals has become a common phenomenon in the most diverse political systems. However, we know little about how the media frame this information. To answer this question, we have developed a descriptive study on a series of recent political scandals denounced in the Chilean press. Taking as a temporary framework the news published between 2014 and 2016, we analyzed the total information (n=10011) published by a sample of eleven national media, on seven political scandals that occurred during the period. We have used the QDAMiner-Wordstat program to detect frame terms, from which we have been able to identify two large frames: one referring to the "Judicialization of cases" and the other referred to the "Attribution of responsibilities". The results are presented and discussed, examining some implications of the exercise for the understanding of the political scandals themselves and the way in which the Chilean periodic press presents and disseminates them. Online journalism has become a significant kind of journalistic work quite quickly - media producers as well as recipients of journalistic products have had relatively little time to accept this new situation on the media market. The last three decades have shown that the typology of newspaper reading (and reading as such) is changing dynamically, as well as the attitude of the readers towards the written word - undoubtedly under the influence of rapid development of information technologies or rather as a result of their everyday use. Regional press expresses social culture and civil engagement in that area. While publishers of regional newspaper are generally private publishing companies, local newspapers are usually published by self-governments. Regional print is not just an instrument for spreading information in given region, but also instrument for self-govern regions for self-propagation or raising awareness of local events. The goal of the paper is to uncover the role and evolution of print media in digital era, advancement and adaptation to internet form mainly on younger generations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to analyze the technical and social dynamics of publishing the magazine El Heraldo Seráfico, which, after August 1915, was totally undertaken in a Capuchin workshop. Following the model proposed by historian Robert Darnton, this paper seeks to answer the following research questions: What motivated the foundation of this typographic workshop? What kind of technology existed therein? What were its main expenditures? What was the editorial hierarchy at the workshop? We conclude that the Capuchins reproduced in Costa Rica an editorial strategy previously and successfully developed in Catalonia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MASS media ,NEWSPAPERS ,JOURNALISM ,SEMANTICS ,INFORMATION literacy - Abstract
The subject of this article is the specifics of feeding the information which is topical for the whole society in regional newspapers; in particular it’s asymmetry towards the data of the central press. The authors carry out a comparative analysis of the content of media representations of the political event (Navalny’s march) in the federal and Khabarovsk print media, which made it possible to reveal a number of formal and substantial differences in the media image of the event, to fix new media phenomena. The theme of media representation is relevant for the theory and practice of journalism, and the transformation in the world and national information space (information warfare, loss of the presumption of information and truth by the world journalism) make this topic even more significant. The research methodology refers to a discursive approach, the authors attempt to analyze the headline complex of journalistic materials, identify the main semantic units of texts, and fix some speech techniques for creating a media image. The novelty of the work lies in the following provisions. The authors go beyond the media-centered approach and in the conclusion analyze the situation of mastering the text by the readership, highlighting two types of audiences according to the criterion of “information literacy”. As an explanatory principle, the authors’ notion of “a zero signs” is introduced to explain the preterition of the media with respect to certain facts. On this basis it is possible to classify different types of information consumers in the future. The empirical study makes it possible to record differences in the coverage of the event by federal and Khabarovsk print media, and also to reveal interesting phenomena of media representation, in particular, “smoothing out”, “suppression”, etc., which have a high level of heuristics. The study deserves attention, gives an increment of new information and raises problematic questions of theoretical and methodological plan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In the post-war Czechoslovak government programme, proclaimed in Košice on April 5, 1945, there were incorporated strong limitations on principles of parliamentary democracy, including the elements of preventive censorship. In operation area of the Slovak national uprising, strong local editorial groups emerged since the summer 1944, acquiring common resistance experience while facing the pro-Nazi power. This made them more resistant also to expected subjection to any administrative or political pressure in the early post-war period. Research into selected regional periodicals confirms relatively strong influence of local conditions on general textual content and also on prevailing mood of editorial boards in terms of potential resistance towards censorship. Compared to the Czech lands, censorship in Slovakia operated in a slightly different frame due to post-war reception of particular judicial norms from the war-time Slovak state by the Slovak national council. The local bi-weekly journal Ohňom a perom (With fire and pen), produced by a group of former young anti-Nazi guerrilla fighters of Orava and Liptov region, remains an important source of knowledge of post-war media policy. Writing about everything they considered worth of interest and compensating the lacking editorial experience with devotion to freedom of expression, they chronicled also their own clashes with otherwise invisible preventive censorship.

The rising importance is a result of the competition with digital platforms like 'Meta' on the online advertising market. This article examines if and in which way German local newspapers are using Facebook as a platform for promoting their paid content. It focuses on the question if they label and promote paid content, using factors such as regionality or hints pointing out the additional value of the linked article. The theoretical background of the study is based on the relationship between journalism, media, and digital platforms regarding economical and organization theoretical approaches. A quantitative content analysis was used to examine 525 Facebook posts by 15 German local newspapers. The results show that publishers are using the digital platform to spread their paid content. The majority of the examined posts contain links to articles behind a paywall. Most of the newspapers had labeled these posts as paid content, especially by using logos. Contrary to this, factors such as regionality or hints pointing out the additional value of the linked article could not be identified as unique characteristics of paid content posts. They were also found in other posts whereas the exclusiveness of newsroom content was mentioned mostly in paid content posts.

- Abstract
In a media context strongly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, a quantitative content analysis of 194 publications obtained from June 2020 to May 2021 has been carried out through an analysis sheet that studies formal aspects of the pieces: subject matter, types of sources, use of terms referring to the young population and informative bias. The results obtained point to a clear neutrality in the informative treatment of youth, although there is a lack of participation of young people in the journalistic discourse. However, the most recurrent themes in the information on the young population continue to be negative representations of the whole (Rodríguez and Megías, 2007), such as violence, alcohol and drug consumption and non-compliance with restrictive measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic., Departamento de Historia Moderna, Contemporánea y de América, Periodismo y Comunicación Audiovisual y Publicidad, Grado en Periodismo

The article analyzes the materials of the regional press of the southern provinces of the Russian Empire, published in the middle of the 19th century under the control of the Odessa Censorship Committee. Reconstruction of historical processes has its own epistemological features; it implies the need to search for various qualitative and quantitative methods of researching sources. Periodicals in general and the press of the southern region in particular have two important attributes of a mass source – the typology of the social phenomena reflected in it, and information richness, which makes it possible to solve a number of issues of its study using content analysis. At present, this method is one of the leading in the studying of periodicals in foreign and domestic science. The purpose of the article is to identify the possibilities of content analysis to study the perception of the regional press of the preparation of reforms carried out by the government of the Russian Empire in the 60-70-s of the 19th century. Content analysis shows that during the preparation and implementation of socio-economic transformations in the Russian Empire, the regional press mainly formulated the platform of entrepreneurs of the South: the abolition of serfdom, the development of industrial production and transport, freedom of trade. At the same time, the periodicals of the region vigorously advocated the implementation of other reforms: they defended the idea of granting the rights of broad self-government at the local level, the implementation of judicial reform, reforms in the field of censorship, 146 etc. According to content analysis, government bills assessments that are found in periodicals in the southern region are relatively diverse. They range from unconditional approval to skeptical remarks. The diversity of information in periodicals is represented by a certain number of domestic political priorities determined by the political orientation of the editorial board. For the implementation of content analysis in this aspect, the following have been obtained: 1) a catalog of topical social problems presented for the press discussion; 2) a catalog of ideas about the methods and tendencies of public assessment of the reformatory activities of the government on the pages of the regional press. The catalog includes the values of the economic and social sphere. The Value Orientation Analysis Tool has combined a number of binary constructs. This research have been identified the organs of the press with a certain value orientation to the traditional and reformatory scales. Content analysis showed the catalogs of values in the regional press mostly coincide. The average correlation coefficient for publications on the reformatory scale is 0.56 and on the traditional scale is 0.21. Thus, content analysis makes it possible to more clearly present the specifics of the discussion on the pages of the regional press of reform projects proposed by the government of the Russian Empire in the era of reforms, to count the number of comments on government projects, as well as to identify the influence of publicity on the final document approved by emperor Alexander II. Substantially different, the content-qualitative analysis and formal-quantitative analysis of press materials do not exclude, but mutually complement each other, allowing compensating for the shortcomings in each of them, because they pursue the same goal – to obtain valid and reliable research results. Their organic combination is most effective, This work studies political discourses on immigration from a sample of eight national and regional Spanish newspapers during the month previous to the general elections celebrated on April 28, 2019. The aim is to analyse the discourses stated by different political actors, paying special attention to the main framings in which media and its sources focus their messages. In order to study the content of the selected pieces, identity framings have been used to label the analysis units depending on their proactive, reactive or neutral vision of immigration. According to this analysis discourses on the matter seem to have favoured more reactive positions, especially in centre-right parties, probably derived from the greater presence in media of the party Vo x, as this issue has become their rallying cry. By comparing national and regional newspapers there seems to be some nuances which tend to fit with their editorial lines, rather than their scope of dissemination.

This thesis has the purpose of understanding how the political power is treated on the pages of two regional newspapers: Jornal da Madeira and Diario de Noticias da Madeira. All the subjects from the public interest are newsworthy. Politics wouldn’t be an exception. Since the begging of journalism, politics have been playing a great part in the media world. It is up to us, with the elaboration of this thesis, to try to understand how this part is played and what adversities are presented to the journalists to get the political information to the public. Since the local media has a proximity that the national media doesn’t, it’s important to understand how this relationship between journalism and politics works in a territory where sources and journalists share an even stronger bond. With this thesis we reach to understand political journalism from the Madeira Island. For this purpose, we have proceeded to analyse the political news in two different periods of time: before and during the Covid-19 pandemic, in which we verified that, in both newspapers, the published information is mainly provided by the sources and that the pandemic didn’t cause many alterations in the journalism practiced by these newspapers.

The Leveson Inquiry was established to specifically examine the press and not the media in general. UK Prime Minister David Cameron set it up in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal at the now-defunct News of the World tabloid. It looked at the ethics of the press, its culture and practice. The public and judge-led enquiry generated massive media attention inside the United Kingdom and beyond on whether the government should introduce new press regulations or whether the press should regulate itself. Most of the media coverage focused on national press, with regional press getting the least attention. Anthony Longden writes about the enquiry's impact on local press. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Early in 2013 John Mair's swiftly produced edited collection of articles about the impact of the then-recent Leveson Report included two chapters on the regional press. My chapter offered statistical evidence to show that the regional press was the sector with the best track record in terms of complaints to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC). The chapter controversially predicted that any proposed regulation would have no impact on that sector. It hoped that Lord Justice Leveson's highlighting of the problems of the regional press and plea for recognition of its vital community role might prompt positive parliamentary activity. Four years later regulation has had no impact on the regionals, but the bigger issue of the basic viability of the sector remains unresolved. So how healthy is the UK regional press now? Is digital journalism a killer or a saviour? And how long can the regionals survive? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept of REFUGEE in the Ternopil regional press. Interest to him is due to the noticeable migration processes that play an important role in the transformation of discursive practices of modern society, rethinking the famous and the emergence of the new nominations of the subjects of these processes. The purpose of the reconnaissance was to find out features of language objectification of the concept to denote persons forced to change their place of residence in the conditions of Russian military aggression in 2014 and 2022, on the example of Ternopil regional publication "Free Life Plus". The analysis showed that the concept of REFUGEE in the studied texts is characterized by branching system of names and it testified to the need for their unification, that is due to modern challenges to information security of the state, also changing the causes and consequences of refugeesness.

The main objective of this work is to contribute to deepen the discussion on the future of the regional press, based on the case study of an innovative project in Portugal – paperview – a platform developed by the company Paperview, with the support of API – Associação Portuguesa de Imprensa. We also propose to reflect on business models and the regional press. At the crossroads between traditional business models, based on the sale of advertising space, and the uncertainties and challenges of digital, newspaper companies are currently under tremendous pressure and are looking for alternative sources of funding. The regional and local press is no longer confined to a geographical space, it has also become global. The Internet allows for cost reduction and the emergence of online media requires adjustments to current business models. Most of the literature converges on the appreciation of the regional press for its irreplaceable democratic function, benefited by its proximity to its public. The construction of sustainable business models that are able to reconcile rigour and exemption with economic viability is the great challenge. How can the sector create value to ensure its survival in the current context, marked by changes in production, distribution and consumption and at a time when the journalist profession is also undergoing profound changes? How has the regional media managed the crisis in which they find themselves? What role is reserved for the regional press in a global world? Can the regional press benefit from the proximity and knowledge it has to its readers to build alternative and sustainable business models?

This work summarizes part of the results of the Research Project in the area of History of Education that addresses the regional educational issues through the written press (newspapers of regional and local circulation, union press, among others) in the province of Rio Negro. In particular, the newspaper Tiempo Cipoleñowill be taken as a source of analysis of the local press. In the development of the project, the written press is considered a political actor and therefrom, as one of the instruments that form representations and political-social discourses. We thus propose to analyze a set of communications about the primary and middle levels of education in the province, produced by the written press, to differentiate, according to the different socialactors that wrote them, the various positions expressed in the texts. The theoretical starting point assumed for the analysis of the education in Río Negro through the regional and local written press develops from the convergence of several perspectives:a)From the political analysis of discourse; b)from the theory of social representations; and c)From the analysis of metaphors in discursive formations. The impulse given to the Educational Reform in the 90s in terms of its dissemination and legitimation will be analyzed from the discourses of Tiempo Cipoleñoon education. This paper examines why strategy innovation is rare in the regional news industry. It integrates the knowledge-based view of a firm, path-dependence theoretical perspective and the field of business model studies to interpret the historic emergence, formation, and current lock-in of legacy regional newspapers. The historic case of the provincial press in England is analysed to consider how, in an industrial context of relative simplicity and certainty, path-dependent formation processes are led by knowledge integration mechanisms. - Abstract
Spanish press sector is characterized, among other things, by the lack of success in their commercial units dedicated to paper and the inescapable search for models that allow for their continuity. This article aims to analyze the main journalistic groups in the regional sphere, based on the autonomic distribution and behavior of some of their newspapers. The cases studied are Joly, Henneo, Zeta, Prensa Ibérica, Serra, Vocento, Promecal, Edigrup Media, Godó, Voz and Noticias. In all groups the main figures of the economic activity (incomes and EBITDA) and the figures linked to newspapers output (circulation and dissemination) are analyzed.

- Abstract
This work studies political discourses on immigration from a sample of eight national and regional Spanish newspapers during the month previous to the general elections celebrated on April 28, 2019. The aim is to analyse the discourses stated by different political actors, paying special attention to the main framings in which media and its sources focus their messages. In order to study the content of the selected pieces, identity framings have been used to label the analysis units depending on their proactive, reactive or neutral vision of immigration. According to this analysis discourses on the matter seem to have favoured more reactive positions, especially in centre-right parties, probably derived from the greater presence in media of the party Vox, as this issue has become their rallying cry. By comparing national and regional newspapers there seems to be some nuances which tend to fit with their editorial lines, rather than their scope of dissemination., Este trabajo estudia los discursos políticos que sobre la inmigración reflejaron una muestra de ocho periódicos de alcance nacional y regional durante el mes anterior a las elecciones generales celebradas el 28 de abril de 2019.

- Abstract
During the 19th century, Chile began to develop small industrial clusters that gave birth to new entrepreneurships, like beer. From the establishment of the first breweries, the common thought was that Concepción was, in comparison to another Chilean provinces, a latecomer this process. However, imported beer and beer manufactured in the area were older than that was established by various historical surveys. In this case, we analyze qualitatively the history of beer in Concepción province during its first development stage, that is, between 1833 and 1874, by the historical synthesis and the critic-heuristic method. This investigations studies a period that began beer production on large scale with the foundation of the Keller brewery., Durante el siglo XIX, Chile comenzó a desarrollar pequeños polos industriales que dieron paso a una serie de nuevos emprendimientos, entre ellos, la cerveza.
