Atualmente, séries ambientadas sob a temática da investigação criminal se tornam cada vez mais populares, apresentando-se como tema motivador para o desenvolvimento de atividades lúdicas com abordagem de conceitos químicos aplicados ao campo forense. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo criar um portfólio de substâncias comerciais que apresentem resultados falso-positivos aos testes realizados pelas polícias científicas na detecção das drogas de abuso cocaína e maconha e, nesse contexto, propor experimentos reprodutíveis em sala de aula, utilizando materiais que possibilitarão a simulação de “drogas falsas” (simulacros) para sua realização. Constatou-se que a lidocaína apresenta resultados semelhantes à amostra de referência de cocaína, e que dentre os materiais vegetais testados, o guaraná em pó apresentou resultado falso-positivo semelhante à amostra de referência de maconha, mostrando-se dentre os materiais testados, os melhores simulacros para serem utilizados nas atividades em sala de aula.

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and subclasses are the only class of antibodies capable of crossing placenta and providing protection against neonatal infectious diseases, especially in premature infants. This systematic review aimed to review the literature concerning the transplacental transfer of IgG and its subclasses in fetuses and preterm newborns and compare the results with data from term neonates. Eleven studies were included in the final review. Most studies demonstrated a lower transplacental passage of IgG2 than other subclasses in term and preterm newborns and a more efficient passage of total IgG and IgG1 after 37 weeks of gestational age. These results elucidate the physiology of IgG subclass transfer during pregnancy and may explain one of the reasons preterm newborns are especially susceptible to specific pathogens, such as encapsulated bacteria.

The samples were collected between 2015 and 2016, with 212 females that were identified, classified according to their gonadal development stage, and measured (CL). The gonads were macroscopically classified into immature, spent and developed, and were then removed. Both body (BodW) and gonad (GonW) dry weights were obtained in order to calculate the gonadosomatic index. Weight/length relationship and weight gain rate were assessed. The weight gain presented negative allometry, indicating that the animals grow faster than they gain weight. The weight/length relationship showed a pattern of continuous reproduction, as previously determined for tropical species. From the GSI values, it was possible to separate the three predetermined gonadal stages, proving that macroscopic evaluation is reliable for evaluating the reproductive period of these shrimps. These results can be used as a guide for fishery stocks management and monitoring. In performing this volumetric technique very toxic reagents such as Cr (VI), Hg (II) and Sn (II) are used. These metallic cations are known to be bioaccumulative and may have carcinogenic characteristics. Thus, it is essential not to discard this waste in the sewage system, adopting management measures and, if possible, treatment of the generated waste. In this paper, a proposal for the recovery of dichromate and Fe (III) in the tailings from experimental classes is presented. The proposal was the oxidation of Cr (III) to dichromate and Fe (III) precipitation with NaOH and redissolution with HNO3. The recovered dichromate was in a concentration ten times more diluted than that used in practical classes and iron in a concentration 1.5 times higher. The dichromate concentration obtained was 0.0002 molL-1 and iron 30 gL-1. The concentrations used in the practical classes are 0.01667 molL-1 and 20 gL-1, respectively. O câncer de próstata é o tumor maligno mais freqüente nos homens com idade superior a 50 anos, excetuando-se os tumores cutâneos. No Brasil estima-se para o ano de 2012 cerca de 60.180 casos novos deste tipo de neoplasia. Os marcadores tumorais permitem fazer o rastreamento do câncer, o diagnóstico diferencial entre uma neoplasia benigna e maligna, a avaliação de prognóstico e o acompanhamento terapêutico, assim como a detecção da recidiva tumoral. Dentre estes marcadores tumorais, tem-se dado muito atenção para as proteínas que mediam e participam da progressão do ciclo celular. A ciclina D1 é uma proteína nuclear de vida curta que é destruída pela via da ubiquitina ATP dependente, e está envolvida na transição celular da fase do ciclo G1 (repouso) para a fase S (síntese) tanto em células normais como em células neoplásicas. A super expressão de ciclina D1 remove a regulação normal do ciclo celular causando proliferação celular descontrolada, um crescimento anormal dos tecidos e a transformação para um fenótipo neoplásico, atuando como oncogene. No presente trabalho foi estudado a expressão de ciclina D1 em adenocarcinomas de próstata, tendo como objetivo avaliar a relação desta proteína com parâmetros epidemiológicos, clínicos e histopatológicos. Adicionalmente também foi feita comparação de escore de Gleason e lateralidade tumoral entre biópsias prostáticas com agulha e de prostatectomias radicais. No ensaio para ciclina D1 foram analisados 85 casos através de imunoistoquímica (IHQ) de material proveniente de prostatectomias radicais diagnosticados com adenocarcinoma de próstata entre os anos de 2005 e 2010 em nosso serviço. O método de avaliação se utilizou de microscopia ótica comum e contagem semi-quantitativa, comparado-se a expressão com achados clínicos, epidemiológicos e histopatológicos utilizando-se Teste T de Fisher, Qui Quadrado, Mann-Whitney, Curva ROC e correlação de Spearman. This study was conducted at the Agroforestry Research Center of EMBRAPA (CPAFRO), Rondônia, Brazil, to determine the effects of various factors on milk yield (MY) of crosss-bred buffalo (Murrah, Mediterranean and Jafarabadi) under two production systems. Production system one (PS1) corresponded to the period from 1984 to 1998 where animals (4471 observation) were milked once a day and received only pasture without supplementation. Production system two (PS2) corresponded to the period from 1999 to 2002 where animals (458 observations) were milked once or twice daily with concentrate supplementation to pasture. Fixed variables were contemporary group (CG), genetic group (GG), Sire (S) and Dam (D). Age (days) at calving (AC), weight at calving (WC) and tast day (TD) were included as linear covariates. Data were analyzed using PROC GLM (SAS, 2005). Results showed that average milk yield for PS1 and PS2 were 3.24 and 4.31 kg/day, respectively. With the exception of WC, in PS2, all other factors significantly affected milk yield in buffalo on two production systems. In PS1, the highest milk yield was for the genetic group 7/8M and the lowest for genetic group 1/2M. For PS2, the highest milk yield was for genetic group 3/4M and the lowest for genetic group 7/8M. Using the significant covariates, the following regression equations were developed to estimate milk yield for buffalo under the two production systems: MY(PS1) = 1.99719578 + 0.00409672WC - 0.00012372AC - 0.00616303DC; MY(PS2) = 3.650977 + 0.000462760AC - 0.010300571DC.

Eight mathematical functions were used: Inverse Polynomial, Linear Hyperbolic, Incomplete Gamma, Logarithmic, Logarithmic Quadratic, Linear, Quadratic and Jenkins & Ferrel. Statistical analysis was conducted using PROC NLIN of SAS (2005). Results showed that for both production systems, Incomplete Gama was the best function to describe the lactation curve. Values of coefficient of determination, standard-deviation, coefficient of variation and standard-error were 95%, 0.068, 7.20, and 0.003, respectively. The corresponding values for PS2 were 96%, 0.200, 2.12, and 0.003. Values of the lactation curve parameters (a, b, and c) for PS1 and PS2, respectively, were (a) 7.0035923 and 10.9209, (b) -0.1080043 and -0.1614882, (c) 0.0434868 and 0.0679365.

Objective: to describe and evaluate the acceptance of a low-cost chest tube insertion porcine model in a medical education project in the southwest of Paraná, Brazil. Methods: we developed a low-cost and low technology porcine model for teaching chest tube insertion and used it in a teaching project. Medical trainees - students and residents - received theoretical instructions about the procedure and performed thoracic drainage in this porcine model. After performing the procedure, the participants filled a feedback questionnaire about the proposed experimental model. This study presents the model and analyzes the questionnaire responses. Results: seventy-nine medical trainees used and evaluated the model. The anatomical correlation between the porcine model and human anatomy was considered high and averaged 8.1±1.0 among trainees. All study participants approved the low-cost porcine model for chest tube insertion. Conclusion: the presented low-cost porcine model for chest tube insertion training was feasible and had good acceptability among trainees. This model has potential use as a teaching tool in medical education. Objetivo: descrever e avaliar a aceitação do modelo porcino de baixo custo para drenagem torácica em projeto de ensino médico no oeste do Paraná, Brasil. Métodos: um modelo suíno de baixa tecnologia e baixo custo foi desenvolvido em projeto de ensino de drenagem torácica. Alunos de Medicina e médicos residentes receberam instruções teóricas sobre o procedimento e realizaram a drenagem torácica no modelo porcino. Após realizarem o procedimento, os participantes responderam a um questionário sobre o modelo experimental proposto. Esse estudo apresenta o modelo e analisa as respostas ao questionário. Resultados: setenta e nove participantes usaram e avaliaram o modelo. A correlação anatômica entre o modelo porcino e a anatomia humana foi considerada alta com média de 8,1+1,0. Todos os participantes aprovaram o modelo porcino de baixo custo para o ensino de drenagem torácica. Conclusão: o modelo porcino de baixo custo para drenagem torácica apresentado neste projeto de ensino foi facilmente montado e teve boa aceitação local entre os participantes. Esse modelo tem potencial para ser usado como ferramenta de ensino na educação médica.

A mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma (MTSCC) is a rare and recently described kidney neoplasm with distal nephron differentiation. It can affect patients of all ages and is more prevalent among women. In this case report, we present a 50-year-old woman who had a renal mass, which was accidently discovered during an investigation for chronic anemia. The final diagnosis of MTSCC was made after the lesion was removed and a pathology work-up was performed. The clinical, pathological and imaging findings of this rare neoplasm are described in this report.

We aimed to compare Gleason score and tumor laterality between transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy of the prostate (TRUSBX) and radical prostatectomy (RP). Some factors that could cause a discrepancy in results between these two procedures were also evaluated. Among the 318 cases reviewed, 191 cases were selected for inclusion in this comparative study. We divided the patients into two groups using the Gleason score: an intermediate/high-grade group (≥7) and a low-grade group ( 0.05). Thus, our study showed that TRUSBX has a high likelihood of underestimating both the Gleason score and tumor laterality in prostate cancer (PCa). The size of the fragment appears to be an important factor influencing the likelihood of laterality underestimation and Gleason score overestimation via TRUSBX. Due to the high likelihood of underestimation of the Gleason score and tumor laterality by 12-core prostate biopsy, we conclude that this type of biopsy should not be used alone to guide therapy in PCa.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the acceptability of an educational project using A porcine model of airway for teaching surgical cricothyroidotomy to medical students and medical residents at a university hospital in southern Brazil.METHODS: we developed a teaching project using a porcine model for training in surgical cricothyroidotomy. Medical students and residents received lectures about this surgical technique and then held practical training with the model. After the procedure, all participants filled out a form about the importance of training in airway handling and the model used.RESULTS: There were 63 participants. The overall quality of the porcine model was estimated at 8.8, while the anatomical correlation between the model and the human anatomy received a mean score of 8.5. The model was unanimously approved and considered useful in teaching the procedure.CONCLUSION: the training of surgical cricothyroidotomy with a porcine model showed good acceptance among medical students and residents of this institution.
