Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a challenging nosocomial problem in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) that face barriers to healthcare delivery and resource availability. This study aimed to examine the incidence and predictors of VAP in Egypt as an example of an LMIC while considering death as a competing event. Methods: The study included patients aged ≥ 18 years who underwent mechanical ventilation (MV) in an intensive care unit (ICU) at a tertiary care, university hospital in Egypt between May 2020 and January 2023. We excluded patients who died or were transferred from the ICU within 48 h of admission. We determined the VAP incidence based on clinical suspicion, radiological findings, and positive lower respiratory tract microbiological cultures. The multivariate Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard model was used to examine the predictors of VAP while considering death as a competing event. Results: Overall, 315 patients were included in this analysis. Sixty-two patients (19.7%) developed VAP (17.1 per 1000 ventilator days). The Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard model, after adjustment for potential confounders, revealed that emergency surgery (subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR]: 2.11, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.25–3.56), reintubation (SHR: 3.74, 95% CI: 2.23–6.28), blood transfusion (SHR: 2.23, 95% CI: 1.32–3.75), and increased duration of MV (SHR: 1.04, 95% CI: 1.03–1.06) were independent risk factors for VAP development. However, the new use of corticosteroids was not associated with VAP development (SHR: 0.94, 95% CI: 0.56–1.57). Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most common causative microorganism, followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Conclusion: The incidence of VAP in Egypt was high, even in the ICU at a university hospital. Emergency surgery, reintubation, blood transfusion, and increased duration of MV were independently associated with VAP. Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to COVID-19 crowded intensive care units in the world with high mortality. Mechanical ventilation was fundamental in the treatment; however, the evidence of ventilatory markers associated with mortality is not entirely clear. In 2021 it was described the linear power, which was superior to other markers. At the moment its possible utility in patients with ARDS due to COVID-19 has not been described. Objective: To evaluate linear power as a risk factor for mortality in patients with ARDS due to COVID-19 in intensive care. Material and methods: Retrospective cohort study in patients admitted to intensive care with ARDS secondary to COVID-19. Linear power was calculated for patients who died and patients who survived in intensive care. Mann-Whitney U test and multivariable Cox regression (hazard ratio [HR] with 95% confidence intervals [95% CI]) were performed. Results: 60 patients were studied with a mortality of 43.3%. Those who died had a higher linear power (89.5 vs. 78, p = 0.031) and the best cut-off point was 84 cmH2O/rpm (AUC 0.663, p = 0.031, LR 2.02); in addition, those with linear power < 84 (p = 0.050) had a better cumulative survival. Abstract Background Severe COVID-19 carries a high morbidity and mortality. Previous studies have shown an association between COVID-19 severity and SARS-CoV-2 viral load (VL). We sought to measure VL in multiple compartments (urine, plasma, lower respiratory tract) in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with severe COVID-19 pneumonia and correlate with clinical outcomes. Methods Plasma, urine, and endotracheal aspirate (ETA) samples were obtained on days 1, 3, 7, 14, and 21 from subjects admitted to the ICU with severe COVID-19. VL was measured via reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Clinical data was collected from the electronic health record. Grouped comparisons were performed using Student’s t-test or 1-way ANOVA. Linear regression was used to correlate VL from different compartments collected at the same time. Logistic regression was performed to model ventilator-freedom at 28 days as a function of peak plasma VL. Results We enrolled 57 subjects with severe COVID-19 and measured VL in plasma (n = 57), urine (n = 25), and ETA (n = 34). The primary outcome is the occurrence of delirium, while the second outcomes include the number of delirium-free days; subtype, severity, and duration of delirium; time to first onset of delirium; total dose of vasopressors and antipsychotics; duration of mechanical ventilation; ICU and hospital length of stay (LOS); accidental extubation, re-intubation, re-admission; and mortality in the ICU at 14 and 28 days. Discussion There is an urgent need for a new combination regimen of dexmedetomidine due to its evident side effects. The combination of esketamine and dexmedetomidine has been applied throughout the perioperative period. However, there is still a lack of evidence on the effects of this regimen on delirium in mechanically ventilated ICU patients. This substudy will evaluate the effects of the combination of esketamine and dexmedetomidine in reducing the risk of delirium for mechanically ventilated patients in ICU, thus providing evidence of this combination to improve the short-term prognosis. Background/Aims The prognosis of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation is poor. Therefore, mechanical ventilation is not recommended. Recently, outcomes of mechanical ventilation, including those for patients with IPF, have improved. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in the use of mechanical ventilation in patients with IPF and their outcomes over time. Methods This retrospective, observational cohort study used data from the National Health Insurance Service database. Patients diagnosed with IPF between January 2011 and December 2019 who were placed on mechanical ventilation were included. We analyzed changes in the use of mechanical ventilation in patients with IPF and their mortality using the Cochran-Armitage trend test. Results Between 2011 and 2019, 1,227 patients with IPF were placed on mechanical ventilation. The annual number of patients with IPF with and without mechanical ventilation increased over time. However, the ratio was relatively stable at approximately 3.5%. The overall hospital mortality rate was 69.4%. There was no improvement in annual hospital mortality rate. The overall 30-day mortality rate was 68.7%, which did not change significantly. The overall 90-day mortality rate was 85.3%. The annual 90-day mortality rate was decreased from 90.9% in 2011 to 83.1% in 2019 (p = 0.028). Conclusions Despite improvements in intensive care and ventilator management, the prognosis of patients with IPF receiving mechanical ventilation has not improved significantly.

OBJECTIVES: Recent reviews demonstrated discordant effects of ICU-based physical rehabilitation on physical function. These inconsistencies may be related to differences in treatment fidelity—the extent to which a protocol is delivered as planned. Before evaluating the association of fidelity with outcomes, we must first understand the extent of treatment fidelity reporting in ICU-based physical rehabilitation randomized controlled trials (RCTs). DATA SOURCES: Six electronic databases from inception to December 2022. STUDY SELECTION: We included RCTs enrolling adults or children admitted to the ICU, if greater than or equal to 50% were invasively mechanically ventilated greater than 24 hours, and underwent an ICU-based physical rehabilitation intervention, with no limitation to comparators or outcomes. DATA EXTRACTION: We screened and extracted data independently and in duplicate, with a third reviewer as needed. Extracted data included study characteristics, treatment descriptions, and the presence of National Institutes of Health Behaviour Change Consortium (NIH-BCC) treatment fidelity tool components. Treatment fidelity scores were calculated as the proportion of reported (numerator) out of total NIH-BCC components (denominator). We calculated scores across studies and by treatment group (intervention vs. comparator). We used linear regression to assess for a time trend in study treatment fidelity scores. DATA SYNTHESIS: Of 20,433 citations, 94 studies met inclusion criteria. Authors reported a median (first–third quartiles) of 19% (14–26%) of treatment fidelity components across studies. Intervention group scores were higher than comparator groups (24% [19–33%] vs. 14% [5–24%], p < 0.01). We found a mean increase in study treatment fidelity scores by 0.7% (0.3 points) per year. CONCLUSIONS: Only 19% of treatment fidelity components were reported across studies, with comparator groups more poorly reported. Future research could investigate ways to optimize treatment fidelity reporting and determine characteristics associated with treatment fidelity conduct in ICU-based physical rehabilitation RCTs. Rationale: Lung-protective mechanical ventilation strategies have been proven beneficial in the operating room (OR) and the ICU. However, differential practices in ventilator management persist, often resulting in adjustments of ventilator parameters when transitioning patients from the OR to the ICU. Objectives: To characterize patterns of ventilator adjustments during the transition of mechanically ventilated surgical patients from the OR to the ICU and assess their impact on 28-day mortality. Methods: Hospital registry study including patients undergoing general anesthesia with continued, controlled mechanical ventilation in the ICU between 2008 and 2022. Ventilator parameters were assessed 1 hour before and 6 hours after the transition. Measurements and Main Results: Of 2,103 patients, 212 (10.1%) died within 28 days. Upon OR-to-ICU transition, VT and driving pressure decreased (−1.1 ml/kg predicted body weight [IQR, −2.0 to −0.2]; P < 0.001; and −4.3 cm H2O [−8.2 to −1.2]; P < 0.001). Concomitantly, respiratory rates increased (+5.0 breaths/min [2.0 to 7.5]; P < 0.001), resulting overall in slightly higher mechanical power (MP) in the ICU (+0.7 J/min [−1.9 to 3.0]; P < 0.001). In adjusted analysis, increases in MP were associated with a higher 28-day mortality rate (adjusted odds ratio, 1.10; 95% confidence interval, 1.06–1.14; P < 0.001; adjusted risk difference, 0.7%; 95% confidence interval, 0.4–1.0, both per 1 J/min). Conclusion: During transition of mechanically ventilated patients from the OR to the ICU, ventilator adjustments resulting in higher MP were associated with a greater risk of 28-day mortality. Objective: To describe acute kidney injury prevalence in young adults diagnosed with COVID-19 admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Methods: This is a retrospective, quantitative and analytical study. The sample consisted of young adults (20 to 40 years old) admitted to Intensive Care Units, diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection between March and December 2020. Data were obtained through electronic medical records, and kidney injury acute was defined by the creatinine value, according to the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes guidelines criteria. Statistical significance was p≤0.05. Results: A total of 58 young adults were hospitalized, 63.8% of whom were male. Hypertension was present in 39.6%, obesity in 18.9%, and diabetes mellitus in 8.6%. Acute kidney injury was identified in 55.1%, with stage 3 predominating in 43.1% of them. In these patients, the use of mechanical ventilation and vasoactive drugs was significant in 92% as well as respiratory organ dysfunction (80%), followed by renal organ dysfunction (76%). Risk factors such as kidney transplantation or chronic kidney disease and obesity increased by 12.3 and 9.0 times, respectively, the chances of developing acute kidney injury. Conclusion: This study demonstrated a high kidney injury prevalence in young adults and its association with previous comorbidities. Obesity, kidney transplantation and chronic kidney disease increased the chance of young adults to develop acute kidney injury, resulting in outcomes in favor of morbidity and mortality. Purpose: Conflicting evidence exists on the choice of surgical or non-surgical treatment of flail chest injuries. We aimed to perform a meta-analysis comparing outcomes in patients presenting flail chest undergoing surgical or non-surgical treatment. Methods: Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing surgery to no surgery in patients with acute unstable chest wall injuries. We computed weighted mean differences (WMDs) for continuous outcomes and risk ratios (RRs) for binary endpoints, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Random effects meta-analyses were performed. Heterogeneity was assessed using I2 statistics. Results: Six RCTs (544 patients) were included, and surgical treatment was used in 269 (49.4%). Compared to no surgery, surgery reduced mechanical ventilation days (WMD − 4.34, 95% CI – 6.98, − 1.69; p < 0.01; I2 = 87%; GRADE: very low; PI − 13.51, 4.84); length of intensive care unit stay (WMD − 4.62, 95% CI − 7.19, − 2.05; p < 0.01; I2 = 78%; GRADE: low; PI − 12.86, 3.61) and the incidence of pneumonia (RR 0.50, 95% CI 0.31, 0.81; p = 0.005; I2 = 54%; GRADE: moderate; PI 0.13, 1.91). No difference in mortality (RR 0.56, 95% CI 0.19, 1.65; p = 0.27; I2 = 23%; GRADE: moderate; PI 0.04, 7.25), length of hospital stay (WMD − 5.39, 95% CI − 11.38, − 0.60; p = 0.08; I2 = 89%; GRADE: very low; PI − 11.38, 0.60), or need for tracheostomy (RR 0.59, 95% CI 0.34, 1.03; p = 0.06; I2 = 54%; GRADE: moderate; PI 0.11, 3.24) was found. Objective: To compare the Rapid Shallow Breathing Index (RSBI) obtained by the ventilometer and from mechanical ventilation parameters. Methods: Randomized crossover trial, including 33 intubated patients, on mechanical ventilation for at least 24 hours, undergoing spontaneous breathing test. Patients were submitted to the measurement of RSBI by four methods: disconnected from the ventilator through the ventilometer; in Pressure Support Ventilation (PSV) mode at a pressure of 7.ßcm H2O; in Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) mode at a pressure of 5.ßcmH2O with flow trigger; in CPAP mode at a pressure of 5.ßcmH2O with pressure trigger. Abstract Background Ventilator-free days (VFDs) are a composite endpoint increasingly used as the primary outcome in critical care trials. However, because of the skewed distribution and competitive risk between components, sample size estimation remains challenging. This systematic review was conducted to systematically assess whether the sample size was congruent, as calculated to evaluate VFDs in trials, with VFDs’ distribution and the impact of alternative methods on sample size estimation. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted within the PubMed and Embase databases for randomized clinical trials in adults with VFDs as the primary outcome until December 2021. We focused on peer-reviewed journals with 2021 impact factors greater than five. After reviewing definitions of VFDs, we extracted the sample size and methods used for its estimation. The data were collected by two independent investigators and recorded in a standardized, pilot-tested forms tool. Sample sizes were calculated using alternative statistical approaches, and risks of bias were assessed with the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Results Of the 26 clinical trials included, 19 (73%) raised “some concerns” when assessing risks of bias. Twenty-four (92%) trials were two-arm superiority trials, and 23 (89%) were conducted at multiple sites. Almost all the trials (96%) were unable to consider the unique distribution of VFDs and death as a competitive risk. Moreover, significant heterogeneity was found in the definitions of VFDs, especially regarding varying start time and type of respiratory support. Methods for sample size estimation were also heterogeneous, and simple models, such as the Mann–Whitney–Wilcoxon rank-sum test, were used in 14 (54%) trials. Finally, the sample sizes calculated varied by a factor of 1.6 to 17.4. Conclusions A standardized definition and methodology for VFDs, including the use of a core outcome set, seems to be required. Indeed, this could facilitate the interpretation of findings in clinical trials, as well as their construction, especially the sample size estimation which is a trade-off between cost, ethics, and statistical power. • Myotonic dystrophy type 1 patients often present with respiratory insufficiency. • Sleep apnea is very common in myotonic dystrophy type 1 patients. • Home mechanical ventilation is frequently needed in myotonic dystrophy patients. • Low compliance with home mechanical ventilation often occurs in myotonic dystrophy. • Respiratory features cannot predict home mechanical ventilation treatment failure. Chronic respiratory insufficiency is common in patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) and can be treated with noninvasive home mechanical ventilation (HMV). HMV is not always tolerated well resulting in low treatment adherence. We aimed to analyze if baseline respiratory characteristics such as pulmonary function, level of pCO 2 and presence of sleep apnea are associated with HMV treatment adherence in DM1 patients. Pulmonary function testing, polysomnography and blood gas measurement data of DM1 patients were retrospectively collected. Initiation of HMV and treatment adherence after one year was documented. Patients with low treatment adherence (average daily use of HMV <5 h) were grouped with patients that discontinued HMV and compared with patients with high treatment adherence (average daily use of HMV >5 h). HMV was initiated in 101 patients. After one year, 58 patients had low treatment adherence. There were no differences between the low and high treatment adherence group regarding the respiratory characteristics. None of the included predictors (gender, age, body mass index, cytosine-thymine-guanine repeat length, FVC, daytime pCO 2 , bicarbonate, nighttime pCO 2 , nighttime base excess, apnea-hypopnea index and mean saturation during sleep) was able to significantly predict high treatment adherence. In conclusion, the respiratory characteristics are not associated with treatment adherence with HMV in DM1 patients and cannot be used to identify patients at risk for low HMV treatment adherence. ABSTRACT Objective: To identify factors associated with prolonged weaning and mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients admitted to ICUs and under invasive mechanical ventilation. Methods: Between March of 2020 and July of 2021, we retrospectively recorded clinical and ventilatory characteristics of critically ill COVID-19 patients from the day of intubation to the outcome. We classified the patients regarding the weaning period in accordance with established criteria. A logistic regression analysis was performed to identify variables associated with prolonged weaning and mortality. Results: The study involved 303 patients, 100 of whom (33.0%) had a prolonged weaning period. Most of the patients were male (69.6%), 136 (44.8%) had more than 50% of pulmonary involvement on chest CT, and 93 (30.6%) had severe ARDS. Within the prolonged weaning group, 62% died within 60 days. Multivariate analysis revealed that lung involvement greater than 50% on CT and delay from intubation to the first separation attempt from mechanical ventilation were significantly associated with prolonged weaning, whereas age and prolonged weaning were significantly associated with mortality. Conclusions: Prolonged weaning can be used as a milestone in predicting mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Lung involvement greater than 50% on CT and delay from intubation to the first separation attempt from mechanical ventilation were identified as significant predictors of prolonged weaning. These results might provide valuable information for healthcare professionals when making clinical decisions regarding the management of critically ill COVID-19 patients who are on mechanical ventilation.

Sample sizes were calculated using alternative statistical approaches, and risks of bias were assessed with the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Results: Of the 26 clinical trials included, 19 (73%) raised "some concerns" when assessing risks of bias. Twenty-four (92%) trials were two-arm superiority trials, and 23 (89%) were conducted at multiple sites. Almost all the trials (96%) were unable to consider the unique distribution of VFDs and death as a competitive risk. Moreover, significant heterogeneity was found in the definitions of VFDs, especially regarding varying start time and type of respiratory support. Methods for sample size estimation were also heterogeneous, and simple models, such as the Mann–Whitney–Wilcoxon rank-sum test, were used in 14 (54%) trials. Finally, the sample sizes calculated varied by a factor of 1.6 to 17.4. Conclusions: A standardized definition and methodology for VFDs, including the use of a core outcome set, seems to be required. Indeed, this could facilitate the interpretation of findings in clinical trials, as well as their construction, especially the sample size estimation which is a trade-off between cost, ethics, and statistical power. Pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS) is a relatively common critical illness in the pediatric intensive care unit with an incidence of about 3%. It has a high mortality rate; although this number has decreased in the last de-cades, it is still as high as 18%; in some developing countries, it even reached 40%-50% in the last 2-3 years. Optimized mechanical ventilation strategy contributes to an improved prognosis. To this end, this article reviews the current status of research on mechanical ventilation strategies in PARDS.

Abstract Background Intellectually disabled (ID) patients present unique therapeutic challenges. We aimed to describe the characteristics of ID patients admitted to a general intensive care unit (ICU). Results We conducted a retrospective cohort study comparing critically ill adult ID patients to matched patients without ID (1:2 ratio) in a single ICU (2010–2020). The main outcome measure was mortality. Secondary outcomes included complications during admission and characteristics of weaning from mechanical ventilation. The study and control groups were randomly selected based on similar age and sex. ID patients nonetheless had an average APACHE score of 18.5 ± 8.7 vs. 13.4 ± 8.5 in controls (p < 0.001). ID patients had more hematological (p = 0.04), endocrinological (p < 0.001) and neurological (p = 0.004) comorbidities and used more psychiatric medication before admission. No difference was found in mortality rates. Differences were found as there were more secondary complications, such as pulmonary and sepsis (p < 0.03), frequent requirement of vasopressors (p = 0.001), significantly higher intubation rates with more weaning attempts, tracheostomies and longer ICU and hospital admissions (p < 0.019). Conclusions Critically ill adult ID may have more comorbidities and be sicker at the time of admission compared to their age- and sex-matched counterparts. They require more supportive treatment and their weaning from mechanical ventilation may be more challenging.

Background At present, there are a variety of mechanical ventilation mode of breathing for premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) , but the application of these techniques in Tibetan Plateau are limited because of the low air pressure and oxygen content and etc. The NRDS initial breathing support measures can only be performed with INSURE technique (tracheal intubation—injection of pulmonary surfactant—nasal continuous positive airway pressure ventilation after extubation) and invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) . It is currently unclear what factors influence the selection of the NRDS initial breathing support therapy in premature infants in Tibetan Plateau. Objective To explore the factors in selection of supporting NRDS initial breathing strategies in high altitude area and evaluate the early clinical outcomes of different supporting strategies. Methods The clinical data of 183 premature infants diagnosed with NRDS and their mother's general data in Paediatri neonatal ward of Lhasa People's Hospital from June 2018 to June 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. According to the accepted initial respiratory support mode, they were divided into INSURE group (n=122) and MV group (n=61) . The objective of the study was to evaluate all available systematic reviews on the use of prone positional ventilation in adult patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). An umbrella review on the efficacy of prone positional ventilation in adult patients ventilation in adult patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome was conducted. We performed a systematic search in the database of Medline (Pubmed), Scopus, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Epistemonikos. The ROBIS tools and GRADE methodology were used to assess the risk of bias and certainty of evidence. We estimated the necessary number of patients to be treated to have benefit. For the synthesis of the result, we selected the review with the lowest risk of bias. Sixteen systematic reviews including 64 randomized clinical trials and evaluating the effect of prone positional ventilation, with or without other ventilation strategies were included. Aoyama 2019 observed prone positioning, without complementary ventilation strategies, leading to a reduction in the 28-day mortality only when compared to high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (RR 0.61; 95% CI 0.39–0.95) and lung-protective ventilation in the supine position (RR 0.69; 95% CI 0.48–0.98), with an ARR of 9.32% and 14.94%, an NNTB of 5.89 and 8.04, and a low and moderate certainty of evidence, respectively. Most reviews had severe methodological flaws that led to results with very low certainty of evidence. The review with the lowest risk of bias presented results in favor of prone positional ventilation compared with high-frequency oscillatory ventilation and lung-protective ventilation. Transtracheal jet ventilation can be used for resuscitation of partial airway obstruction. A prerequisite for jet ventilation is that at least a minimum airway opening for gas escape must be secured. Therefore, another option should be considered in cases of complete airway obstruction. The following methods or devices has been used under cricothyrotomy using an intravenous cannula: 1) Ambu (bag valve mask) bagging, 2) Ventrain®, 3) Rapid-O2 oxygen insufflation device (Rapid-O2), and 4) jet ventilation using a dual lumen catheter. During Ambu bagging, extraordinarily high insufflation pressure is required to force oxygen through the cannula. When using a 12-G cannula, long and slow positive-pressure ventilations (10–12 breaths/min) are required, which makes it extremely difficult to compress the bag. Therefore, a 10-G or larger is recommended. Ventrain® is an expiratory assist device capable of forcibly expelling insufflated oxygen through a transtracheal cannula. It is recommended to adjust the inspiratory and expiratory times while observing the chest wall movements. Rapid-O2 is a rescue oxygenation device with adequate ventilation of less importance; therefore, the resulting hypercarbia is inevitable. A 14-G cannula is used. Lastly, jet ventilation using a dual-lumen catheter with a 16-G inflow lumen and 10-G outflow lumen was used to obtain both oxygenation and ventilation. However, the addition of the outer diameters of 16-G and 10-G results in an outer diameter of 5.1 mm, which is too large to puncture the cricothyroid membrane. In conclusion, Ventrain® is considered the most ideal device for use among the devices developed to date.

The second wave group used more noninvasive ventilation (81.3% versus 53.4%; p<0.001) and high-flow nasal cannula (63.2% versus 23.0%; p<0.001) during their intensive care unit stay. The intensive care unit (11.3% versus 10.5%; p=0.696) and in-hospital mortality (12.3% versus 12.1%; p=0.998) rates did not differ between both waves. Conclusion: In the first and second waves, patients with severe COVID-19 exhibited similar mortality rates and need for invasive organ support, despite the second wave group being younger and less severely ill at the time of intensive care unit admission. Background: Viral respiratory infections are one of the main causes of hospitalization in children. Even if mortality rate is low, 2% to 3% of the hospitalized children need mechanical ventilation. Risk factors for admission to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) are well known, while few studies have described risk factors for invasive ventilator support and prolonged hospitalization. Methods: A retrospective study including all patients aged between 2 and 18 months with a confirmed viral respiratory infection, requiring admission to PICU from September to March between 2015 and 2019, was conducted at Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital in Rome, Italy. Results: One hundred ninety patients were enrolled, with a median age of 2.7 months; 32.1% had at least one comorbidity, mainly prematurity. The most frequent isolated viruses were RSV‐B, rhinovirus, and RSV‐A; 38.4% needed mechanical ventilation. This subgroup of patients had lower median birth weight compared with patients not requiring mechanical ventilation (2800 g vs. 3180 g, p = 0.02); moreover, comorbidities were present in 43.8% of intubated patients and in 24.8% of patients treated with non‐invasive ventilation (p = 0.006). Viral coinfection did not result to be a risk factor for mechanical support, while virus–bacteria coinfection was significantly associated with mechanical ventilation (p < 0.001). Similar risk factors were identified for prolonged hospitalization. Conclusions: Early identification of patients who could have a sudden respiratory deterioration and need of mechanical ventilation is crucial to reduce complications due to orotracheal intubation and prolonged hospitalization in PICU. Introduction. It is common practice in on-pump cardiac surgery to stop mechanical ventilation when extracorporeal circulation is started or to continue with low tidal volumes. The aim of this study was to investigate whether patients ventilated with low tidal volumes had a lower percentage of postoperative pulmonary complications compared to patients who were not ventilated during cardiopulmonary bypass. Material and Methods. This retrospective study included patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graft surgery over a period of 14 months. Patients with lung diseases and those with an ejection fraction < 30% were excluded from the study. Results. A total of 499 patients were included in the study. Of these, 398 were ventilated with low tidal volumes, while 101 patients were not ventilated during extracorporeal circulation. The groups did not differ in baseline characteristics, comorbidities, and intraoperative data. Pulmonary complications were equally prevalent in both groups (ventilated 16%, not ventilated 17.8%). The most frequent were the need for prolonged mechanical ventilation (ventilated 5.8%, not ventilated 5.9%), and pleural effusions (ventilated 4.8%, not ventilated 5.9%). The incidence of pneumonia was identical in both groups (2%). Other complications were less frequent. Duration of mechanical ventilation after surgery, stay in the intensive care unit, and in-hospital mortality did not differ significantly between the groups. Conclusion. Pulmonary complications after cardiac surgery are still common. The experience at our clinic showed that the choice of mechanical ventilation strategy during cardiopulmonary bypass does not affect postoperative pulmonary complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Janus kinase (JAK)1/JAK2 inhibitor ruxolitinib in COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome requiring mechanical ventilation.Design: Phase 3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial Ruxolitinib in Participants With COVID-19-Associated Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Who Require Mechanical Ventilation (RUXCOVID-DEVENT; NCT04377620).Setting: Hospitals and community-based private or group practices in the United States (29 sites) and Russia (4 sites).Patients: Eligible patients were greater than or equal to 12 years old, hospitalized with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection, and mechanically ventilated with a Pa o2 /F io2 of less than or equal to 300 mm Hg within 6 hours of randomization.Interventions: Patients were randomized 2:2:1 to receive twice-daily ruxolitinib 15 mg, ruxolitinib 5 mg, or placebo, each plus standard therapy.Measurements and Main Results: The primary endpoint, 28-day mortality, was tested for each ruxolitinib group versus placebo using a mixed-effects logistic regression model and one-tailed significance test (significance threshold: p < 0.025); no type 1 error was allocated to secondary endpoints. Between May 24, 2020 and December 15, 2020, 211 patients (age range, 24-87 yr) were randomized (ruxolitinib 15/5 mg, n = 77/87; placebo, n = 47). Acute respiratory distress syndrome was categorized as severe in 27% of patients (58/211) at randomization; 90% (190/211) received concomitant steroids. Day-28 mortality was 51% (39/77; 95% CI, 39-62%) for ruxolitinib 15 mg, 53% (45/85; 95% CI, 42-64%) for ruxolitinib 5 mg, and 70% (33/47; 95% CI, 55-83%) for placebo. Neither ruxolitinib 15 mg (odds ratio, 0.46 [95% CI, 0.201-1.028]; one-sided p = 0.029) nor 5 mg (odds ratio, 0.42 [95% CI, 0.171-1.023]; one-sided p = 0.028) significantly reduced 28-day mortality versus placebo. Numerical improvements with ruxolitinib 15 mg versus placebo were observed in secondary outcomes including ventilator-, ICU-, and vasopressor-free days. Rates of overall and serious treatment-emergent adverse events were similar across treatments.Conclusions: The observed reduction in 28-day mortality rate between ruxolitinib and placebo in mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome was not statistically significant; however, the trial was underpowered owing to early termination. Introduction. The arm replantation is an extremely rare and challenging procedure. The recognized risk is myoglobinuria and, consenquently, ischemia reperfusion-induced renal failure. Case report. We presented two patients aged 24 and 46 years who were admitted after traumatic arm amputation. Ischemia time was six and two hours, respectively. Postoperative intensive care treatment with assisted ventilation, sedation, and obtaining sufficient urine output prevented myoglobin-induced renal injury. In the case where ischemia time was shorter, there was only one delayed reconstruction of skin defects after fasciotomy, but in the case where ischemia lasted longer, the patient had two secondary look procedures with acceptable definitive results. Conclusion. Arm replantation is a safe procedure even in cases with longer ischemia time. Postoperative control of urine output, correction of acidosis, and preventing myoglobin-induced tubular injury are crucial for stable postoperative recovery and.

Introduction: Chest compressions during CPR induce oscillations in capnography (ETCO2) waveforms. Studies suggest ETCO2 oscillation characteristics are associated with intrathoracic airflow dependent on airway patency. Oscillations can be quantified by the Airway Opening Index (AOI). We sought to evaluate multiple methods of computing AOI and their association with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 307 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) cases in Seattle, WA during 2019. ETCO2 and chest impedance waveforms were annotated for the presence of intubation and CPR. We developed four methods for computing AOI based on peak ETCO2 and the oscillations in ETCO2 during chest compressions (ΔETCO2). We examined the feasibility of automating ΔETCO2 and AOI calculation and evaluated differences in AOI across the methods using nonparametric testing (α = 0.05).Results: Median [interquartile range] AOI across all cases using Methods 1-4 was 28.0 % [17.9-45.5 %], 20.6 % [13.0-36.6 %], 18.3 % [11.4-30.4 %], and 22.4 % [12.8-38.5 %], respectively (p < 0.001). Cases with ROSC had a higher median AOI than those without ROSC across all methods, though not statistically significant. Cases with ROSC had a significantly higher median [interquartile range] ΔETCO2 of 7.3 mmHg [4.5-13.6 mmHg] compared to those without ROSC (4.8 mmHg [2.6-9.1 mmHg], p < 0.001).Conclusion: We calculated AOI using four proposed methods resulting in significantly different AOI. Additionally, AOI and ΔETCO2 were larger in cases achieving ROSC. Background: In patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), prolonged and inappropriate use of prone position ventilation (PPV) is a known risk factor for mortality. Hence, it is critical to monitor patients' response to PPV and accurately differentiate responders from non-responders at an early stage. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between oxygenation improvement after three rounds of PPV and survival rate in patients with pulmonary ARDS. Additionally, we sought to identify the earliest turning point for escalation from PPV to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation., Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study from 2015 to 2023. We included adult patients who received invasive mechanical ventilation, underwent at least three periods of at least 6 h of PPV after admission to the Intensive Care Unit, and meet the ARDS criteria. The study collected data on each PPV session, including changes in PaCO 2 , PaO 2 , pH, FiO 2 , PaO 2 :FiO 2 ratio, and clinical outcomes., Results: A total of 104 patients were enrolled in the study. The change in PaCO 2 from baseline to the third PPV session (P3) had the highest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.70 (95% CI 0.60-0.80; p < 0.001) for predicting hospital mortality, with an optimal cut-off point of 3.15 (sensitivity 75.9%, specificity 56.0%). The percentage change in PaO 2 :FiO 2 ratio from baseline to P3 also had significant AUC of 0.71 (95% CI 0.61-0.81; p < 0.001) for predicting hospital mortality, with an optimal cut-off value of 99.465 (sensitivity 79.6%, specificity 62.0%). PaCO 2 responders were defined as those with an increase in PaCO 2 of ≤ 3.15% from baseline to P3, while PaO 2 :FiO 2 responders were defined as those with an increase in PaO 2 :FiO 2 ratio of ≥ 99.465% from baseline to P3. In the multivariable Cox analysis, PaO 2 :FiO 2 responders had a significantly lower 60-day mortality risk (hazard ratio 0.369; 95% CI 0.171-0.798; p = 0.011)., Conclusions: The percentage change in PaO 2 :FiO 2 ratio from baseline to P3 was a significant predictor of outcomes. Background: COVID-19 is associated with prolonged disability, particularly after critical illness. This study aimed to assess and compare disability post-hospital discharge of subjects who were invasively ventilated versus those who were not, following ICU admission due to COVID-19. This study also explored variables associated with long-term disability., Methods: In this prospective cohort study, subjects with COVID-19 who received invasive ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, or high-flow nasal cannula during ICU stay were assessed with the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS) 2.0 at 3 and 6 months post-hospital discharge. Data were analyzed collectively and stratified as subjects with and without invasive mechanical ventilation. Analysis of variance and multiple regression analyses were applied., Results: The subjects ( N = 43) were mainly male, middle age, and overweight. Subjects who were invasively ventilated ( n = 21) had decreased physical function compared to those who were not during hospital assessments. From 3-6 months after discharge, all WHODAS domains and the overall score decreased in both groups ( P < .001), indicating disability recovery. The participation domain, which assesses joining in society, was the only domain that remained worse in the ventilation group compared to the no ventilation group ( P = .01). No interaction was found between time and the study groups, suggesting that the recovery trajectory was similar. At 6 months, considering the entire cohort, 70% and 56% had no disability in self-care and getting along domains, respectively, while 42% exhibited moderate to severe disability in the participation domain. According to the overall WHODAS score, 86% of subjects still had some level of disability at 6 months. In multivariate analyses, the overall WHODAS score along with the household and participation domains showed significant positive correlations, indicating higher disability, with corticosteroid use., Conclusions: Disability persisted at 6 month post-hospital discharge for ICU survivors of COVID-19, regardless of the need for invasive mechanical ventilation. In 2018, the institutional burn resuscitation guideline was updated to remove the use of high-dose ascorbic acid (HDAA) therapy, to lower 24-hour resuscitation fluid estimations from 4 to 2 mL/kg/TBSA, and to optimize guidance around appropriate colloid resuscitation. This retrospective study compared the incidence of a composite safety outcome (acute kidney injury, or intra-abdominal hypertension requiring intervention) between the pre-guideline update to post-guideline update. Secondarily, 24-hour resuscitation volumes, hourly urine output, vasopressor use, and mechanical ventilation duration were compared as well. The composite safety outcome was similar between the 2 groups (40% vs 29%; P = .27), but the post-group showed significantly lower 24-hour resuscitation volumes (3.74 vs 2.94 mL/kg/TBSA; P < .01), as well as lower urine output (1.26 vs 0.75 mL/kg/h; P < .01). There was no difference between the groups with respect to vasopressor use, mechanical ventilation duration, or mortality. This study suggests that a simplified resuscitation protocol without HDAA, combined with a lower starting fluid rate, led to significantly lower 24-hour resuscitation volumes without an increase in adverse safety events., (© The Author(s) 2024. Patients with COVID-19 under invasive mechanical ventilation are at higher risk of developing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), associated with increased healthcare costs, and unfavorable prognosis. The underlying mechanisms of this phenomenon have not been thoroughly dissected. Therefore, this study attempted to bridge this gap by performing a lung microbiota analysis and evaluating the host immune responses that could drive the development of VAP. In this prospective cohort study, mechanically ventilated patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were enrolled. Nasal swabs (NS), endotracheal aspirates (ETA), and blood samples were collected initially within 12 h of intubation and again at 72 h post-intubation. Plasma samples underwent cytokine and metabolomic analyses, while NS and ETA samples were sequenced for lung microbiome examination. The cohort was categorized based on the development of VAP. Data analysis was conducted using RStudio version 4.3.1. In a study of 36 COVID-19 patients on mechanical ventilation, significant differences were found in the nasal and pulmonary microbiome, notably in Staphylococcus and Enterobacteriaceae, linked to VAP. Patients with VAP showed a higher SARS-CoV-2 viral load in respiratory samples, elevated neutralizing antibodies, and reduced inflammatory cytokines, including IFN-δ, IL-1β, IL-12p70, IL-18, IL-6, TNF-α, and CCL4. Metabolomic analysis revealed changes in 22 metabolites in non-VAP patients and 27 in VAP patients, highlighting D-Maltose-Lactose, Histidinyl-Glycine, and various phosphatidylcholines, indicating a metabolic predisposition to VAP. This study reveals a critical link between respiratory microbiome alterations and ventilator-associated pneumonia in COVID-19 patients with higher SARS-CoV-2 viral loads in respiratory samples, elevated neutralizing antibodies, and reduced inflammatory cytokines, including IFN-δ, IL-1β, IL-12p70, IL-18, IL-6, TNF-α, and CCL4. Objective: To analyze in-hospital and 1-year morbidity and mortality associated with acute gastrointestinal dysfunction in critically ill patients with COVID-19 via a prespecified scoring system., Methods: Between March and July 2020, consecutive hospitalized patients with COVID-19 from a single institution were retrospectively analyzed by medical chart review. Only those who remained in the intensive care unit for more than 24 hours were included. Gastrointestinal dysfunction was assessed according to a predefined 5-point progressive gastrointestinal injury scoring system, considering the first 7 days of hospitalization. Laboratory data, comorbidities, the need for mechanical ventilation, the duration of intensive care unit stay, and subsequent in-hospital and 1-year mortality rates were also recorded., Results: Among 230 patients who were screened, 215 were included in the analysis. The median age was 68 years (54 - 82), and 57.7% were male. The total gastrointestinal dysfunction scores were 0 (79.1%), I (15.3%), II (4.7%), III (0.9%), and IV (0%). Any manifestation of gastrointestinal dysfunction was present in 20.9% of all patients and was associated with longer lengths of stay (20 days [11 - 33] versus 7 days [4 - 16]; p < 0.001] and higher C-reactive protein levels on admission (12.8mg/mL [6.4 - 18.4] versus 5.7mg/mL [3.2 - 13.4]; p < 0.001). The gastrointestinal dysfunction score was significantly associated with mortality (OR 2.8; 95%CI 1.7 - 4.8; p < 0.001) and the need for mechanical ventilation (OR 2.8; 95%CI 1.7 - 4.6; p < 0.001). Both in-hospital and 1-year death rates progressively increased as gastrointestinal dysfunction scores increased., Conclusion: In the current series of intensive care unit patients with COVID-19, gastrointestinal dysfunction severity, as defined by a prespecified scoring system, was predictive of adverse in-hospital and 1-year outcomes.

Introduction: Invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) is frequently used as a life-supporting device in Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU). To date, there are few studies evaluating the impact of prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) in children which is associated with high morbidity and mortality. We aimed to determine the incidence and factors associated with PMV in PICU at our institution., Methods: A retrospective review was performed of children aged 1 month to 18 years who were admitted to the PICU at Chiang Mai University Hospital, Thailand between January and December 2020. PMV was defined if the duration of IMV was ≥ 96 hours. Baseline characteristics and factors associated with PMV were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and univariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis, respectively. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant., Results: Ninety-two episodes of IMV were performed in 90 children. The median (IQR) age of the children was 22.8 (7.2-111.9) months (male 64.1%). Forty-six of 92 (50%) children received PMV and 32.6% of children with PMV required a tracheostomy. Following multivariable analysis, factors associated with PMV were age <2 years old (OR 2.86, 95% CI 1.04-7.84, p = 0.041), male gender (OR 3.21, 95% CI 1.15-8.94, p = 0.026), and multiple antibiotics administration during PICU admission (OR 7.83, 95% CI 1.87-32.78, p = 0.005), respectively., Conclusions: Pediatric PMV was notably common, with younger age, male gender, and multiple antibiotic use contributing to higher risk. Patients with both diabetes and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are more likely to experience negative outcomes. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with these adverse outcomes that can assist clinicians in implementing suitable treatment strategies to minimize the occurrence of severe complications. A total of 92 patients with diabetes and COVID-19 in the Endocrine Department of Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine from December 2022 to February 2023 were enrolled and divided into the recovered group and the transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU) or death group. The clinical characteristics and infection indicators were compared between the 2 groups. Additionally, the patients were further divided into the normal group and the reduction group based on their glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and their clinical characteristics and infection indicators were also analyzed. Compared with the GFR normal group, the GFR reduction group exhibited worse outcomes, higher COVID-19 severity, a higher proportion of mechanical ventilation, and a longer hospital stay. However, there were no significant differences in leukocyte, lymphocyte, and neutrophil counts between these 2 groups. Compared with the recovered group, the transfer to ICU or death group demonstrated an increase in leukocytes and neutrophils, while lymphocytes decreased (P < .05). The C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, interleukin-6, and serum amyloid A levels in the transfer to ICU or death group were significantly higher than those in the Recovered group (P < .05). In addition, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, and serum amyloid A levels in the GFR reduction group were significantly higher than those in the normal group (P < .05), while interleukin-6 levels were only slightly higher (P > .05). Objective: To evaluate the relationship between nutritional scoring systems, nutritional support methods, and the prognosis of severe and critically ill patients infected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)., Methods: Patients with confirmed Omicron variant severe and critical COVID-19, who were admitted to Chongqing Medical University First Hospital between December 2022 and January 2023, were enrolled into this retrospective study. Clinical data of patients who survived for 28 days were compared with those who died during the same period. Nutritional status was assessed using the 2002 Nutrition Risk Screening (NRS) tool and Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI). Factors influencing patient mortality were identified by multivariate logistic regression, and the relationship between patient nutrition and mortality as the disease progressed was illustrated using Kaplan-Meier curves. The study was registered on the ChiCTR platform (No. ChiCTR2300067595)., Results: A total of 508 patients were included (349 survivors and 159 non-survivors). Significant differences were found in sex, age, NRS score, PNI score, albumin level, lymphocyte count, chronic comorbidities, mechanical ventilation, neutrophil count, procalcitonin, and platelet count between survivors and non-survivors. Multivariate analysis revealed that high NRS score (OR 3.87, 95% CI, 1.97, 7.63), fourth-level nutritional support (combined enteral and parenteral nutrition; OR 7.89, 95% CI, 1.32, 47.28), chronic comorbidities (OR 4.03, 95% CI, 1.91, 8.51), and mechanical ventilation (OR 6.03, 95% CI, 3, 12.13) were risk factors for mortality (OR > 1). The malnutrition rate among patients with NRS ≥ 3 was 41.93%. The median (interquartile range) PNI score was 38.20 (35.65, 41.25) for survivors versus 32.65 (29.65, 36.58) for non-survivors. The mortality rate was higher in patients with high nutritional risk within 28 days of hospitalization. The descending order for mortality rate in patients receiving different nutritional support was: dual parenteral and enteral nutrition, no nutritional intervention, single enteral nutrition, and single parenteral nutrition., Conclusion: A high proportion of severe and critically ill patients with COVID-19 experience malnutrition, and various factors are associated with their prognosis. High nutritional risk is significantly related to patient mortality. Objective: To establish a model that can predict the risk of requiring mechanical ventilation within 48 h after admission in patients with sepsis., Methods: Data for patients with sepsis admitted to Dongyang People's Hospital from October 2011 to October 2023 were collected and divided into a modeling group and a validation group. Independent risk factors in the modeling group were analyzed, and a corresponding predictive nomogram was established. The model was evaluated for discriminative power (the area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic curve, AUC), calibration degree (Hosmer-Lemeshow test), and clinical benefit (decision curve analysis, DCA). Models based on the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores, the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) scores and multiple machine learning methods were also established., Results: The independent factors related to the risk of requiring mechanical ventilation in patients with sepsis within 48 h included lactic acid, pro-brain natriuretic peptide (PRO-BNP), and albumin levels, as well as prothrombin time, the presence of lung infection, and D-dimer levels. The AUC values of nomogram model in the modeling group and validation group were 0.820 and 0.837, respectively. The nomogram model had a good fit and clinical value. The AUC values of the models constructed using SOFA scores and NEWSs were significantly lower than those of the nomogram ( P < 0.01). The AUC value of the integrated machine-learning model for the validation group was 0.849, comparable to that of the nomogram model ( P = 0.791)., Conclusion: The established nomogram could effectively predict the risk of requiring mechanical ventilation within 48 h of admission by patients with sepsis. Skin injuries are a major healthcare problem that are not well understood or prevented in the critically ill, suggesting that underappreciated variables are contributing. This pilot study tested the hypothesis that perfusion-related factors contribute to skin injuries diagnosed as hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs). A total of 533 adult patients were followed over 2574 critical care days (mean age 62.4, standard deviation (SD) 14.3 years, mean body mass index 30.4 (SD 7.4) kg/m 2 , 36.4% female). This was a secondary analysis of prospective, non-randomised clinical data from an intensive care unit at a large urban teaching hospital. Factors related to perfusion, specifically two or more infusions of vasopressors/inotropes, temporary mechanical circulatory support (MCS), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and durable MCS, were analysed to determine whether they were more strongly associated with HAPIs than immobility due to prolonged mechanical ventilation (>72 h) or operating room time (>6 h). Patients diagnosed with a HAPI had a statistically significant higher risk of being exposed to variables related to perfusion and immobility ( P  < 0.05 for each variable). Perfusion-related variables, except durable MCS, had a larger effect on skin breakdown (number needed to harm (NNH) 4-10) than immobility-associated variables (NNH 12-17). The finding that perfusion-related variables predicted HAPIs may warrant consideration of alternative diagnoses, such as skin failure due to impaired perfusion as a pathophysiological process that occurs concurrently with multisystem organ failure. Differentiation of skin injuries primarily from circulatory malfunction, rather than external pressure, may guide the development of more effective treatment and prevention protocols. This pilot study suggests that the contribution of perfusion to skin injuries should be explored further.

Tracheotomy has long been performed outside of intensive care medicine. In modern medicine, it has a firm place in the management of critically ill and emergency care patients as well as in cancer surgery of the head and neck, the care of long-term ventilated patients, patients with swallowing disorders, and neurological diseases. The indication, technique, and timing of tracheotomy are very different for the various diseases. Background: Frailty is strongly correlated with mortality in intensive care unit patients, yet routine screening among intensive care patients is rarely performed. The aim of this study is to assess frailty and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients before intensive care admission and to compare this with outcomes after 3 and 12-months. The Clinical Frailty Scale and EQ-5D-5L will be used to assess frailty and HRQoL, respectively., Methods: This is an ongoing, prospective observational study including patients from five Norwegian ICU's. Inclusion criteria are patients aged ≥65 years requiring invasive mechanical ventilation for ≥24 h. The Clinical Frailty Scale and EQ-5D-5L are administered at baseline (before critical illness) and at 3- and 12-months post-inclusion. Additional data collected includes patient characteristics, ICU treatment details, illness severity and mortality. The EQ-5D-5L will be compared to Norwegian population norms and assessed for measurement properties., Results: Inclusion started July 2022 and will be stopped at 350 patients. The study will be completed in 2025., Conclusion: The study will assess the feasibility and measurement properties of the Clinical Frailty Scale and EQ-5D-5L in ICU survivors by telephone at long-term follow-up study and will give additional information on the frailty and HRQoL of intensive care survivors., Clinical Trial Registration: The study is registered in ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06012942.
