OVIDE 2018 cruise focused on the 9th repetition of the OVIDE section. OVIDE cruises have been run biennially since 2002, always in June-July, and the section is labelled as a high-resolution reference section in the international program GO-SHIP. OVIDE 2018 started in Brest on June 11 and ended in Brest on July 14 on the N/O Thalassa. The 98 stations of the OVIDE section, from Portugal to the tip of Greenland, were cast within 3 weeks, and 6 stations were added afterwards in the Bight Fracture Zone. The core of the work consisted in acquiring surface-to-bottom hydrographic profiles of pressure, temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen, and analyzing 20 physical and biogeochemical tracers from 17500 samples drawn from the Niskin bottles of the CTD frame. We report here an overview of the cruise operations and team, followed by a focus on the acquisition and calibration steps of the physical variables measured specifically by the hydrographic CTD-O2 probe. After calibration, we find precisions for pressure, temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen that fit the GO-SHIP international quality requirements. Pressure and temperature were calibrated at the laboratory before and after the cruise, leading to a precision of 1 dbar and 0.001 ��C respectively. The calibration of salinity and dissolved oxygen data is obtained by applying polynomial correcting functions that are calculated to statistically minimize the differences between the probe data and the sample data analyzed on board in the chemistry container. These chemical data are also evaluated by the comparison of replicates. After calibration, the differences in salinity and oxygen follow a zero-centered Gaussian-like distribution which standard deviation is used to evaluate the probe precision for each variable. For salinity, we find a standard deviation of 0.001, and for oxygen, 0.03 ml/l (or 1.3 ��mol/kg). The oxygen uncertainty could be reduced to 1 ��mol/kg after correcting for isopycnal heave. Those numbers correspond to a 68 % confidence interval and must be doubled to obtain the precision within a 95 % confidence interval., La campagne OVIDE 2018 portait sur la 9��me r��p��tition de la section OVIDE. Ces donn��es chimiques sont ��galement ��valu��es par la comparaison de r��plicats. Apr��s ajustage, les diff��rences de salinit�� et d'oxyg��ne suivent une distribution de type gaussienne centr��e sur z��ro dont l'��cart-type est utilis�� pour ��valuer la pr��cision de la sonde pour chaque variable. Pour la salinit��, nous trouvons un ��cart-type de 0,001, et pour l'oxyg��ne, 0,03 ml/l (ou 1,3 ��mol/kg). L'incertitude sur l'oxyg��ne pourrait ��tre r��duite �� 1 ��mol/kg d'apr��s la correction de la profondeur des isopycnes. Ces chiffres correspondent �� un intervalle de confiance de 68 % et doivent ��tre doubl��s pour obtenir la pr��cision dans un intervalle de confiance de 95 %.

The OceanoScientific Programm was initiated in 2006 and yielded the creation of a specific equipment : the OSC-System. The OSC-System measures physical parameters at the air-sea interface including Sea Surface temperature and Salinity. An OSC-System was installed on board of the OceanoScientific Explorer Boogaloo sailing ship. A cruise around the world was initiated the 17/11/2016 and ended 02/06/2017 including 60 days south of 40°S. Sea Surface temperature and salinity collected along this cruise are discussed in this technical report., Le Programme OceanoScientific initié en 2006 a permis la création d’un équipement spécifique : l’OSC System, pour mesurer des paramètres physiques à l’interface air-mer. Des mesures de température et salinité sont ainsi effectuées par cet équipement à la surface des océans. Le voilier OceanoScientific Explorer "Boogaloo" équipé de l’OSC System a effectué un tour du monde du 17/11/2016 au 02/06/2017, dont 60 jours sous le 40e Sud, objet du présent rapport. Les mesures de température et de salinité collectées lors de cette campagne sont discutées dans ce rapport ainsi que le fonctionnement du thermo-salinomètre.

The water vapour isotopic composition ( (H2O)-H-1-O-16, (H2O)-O-18 and (HHO)-H-1-H-2-O-16) of the Atlantic marine boundary layer has been measured from 5 research vessels between 2012 and 2015. Using laser spectroscopy analysers, measurements have been carried out continuously on samples collected 10-20 meter above sea level. All the datasets have been carefully calibrated against the international VSMOW-SLAP scale following the same protocol to build a homogeneous dataset covering the Atlantic Ocean between 4 degrees S to 63 degrees N. In addition, standard meteorological variables have been measured continuously, including sea surface temperatures using calibrated Thermo-Salinograph for most cruises. All calibrated observations are provided with 15-minute resolution. We also provide 6-hourly data to allow easier comparisons with simulations from the isotope-enabled Global Circulation Models. In addition, backwards trajectories from the HYSPLIT model are supplied every 6-hours for the position of our measurements.

Sea surface temperature and salinity measurements complete the ocean global observation network. Such measurements are installed on research and commercial ships. Observations are now obtained from voluntary sailing ships using smaller sensors. Some of these instruments also measured atmospheric parameters near the ocean-atmosphere interface. The oceanic data from the Oceanoscientific program and from NKE-STPS sensors were validated at the Laboratoire de Physique des Océans (LPO). This report summarizes the work done in 2014, the data validated and the behavior of sensors., Les données de température et de salinité de surface des océans complètent les réseaux globaux d’observation. Des telles mesures sont effectuées sur les navires de recherche et sur certains navires de commerce. Des sondes sont déployées maintenant sur des voiliers d’opportunités utilisant des capteurs plus compacts. Certains de ces instruments permettent aussi des mesures atmosphériques à proximité de l’interface air/mer. Les données océaniques issues du programme Oceanoscientific et des sondes NKE-STPS sont traitées au Laboratoire de Physique des Océans (LPO). Ce rapport synthétise les efforts déployés en 2014 au LPO, les campagnes traitées et le comportement des capteurs.

The Argo array, by offering simultaneously global coverage and high vertical resolution, made the monitoring of inter-annual and decadal variability of the ocean interior possible. In the ARIVO project, we have initiated the production of gridded monthly fields of temperature and salinity using an optimal analysis tool and designed an iterative approach to combine near-real time and delayed mode data. The monthly gridded fields are averaged over time to produce the reference state needed by climatological studies, dynamical modeling and reconstruction methods themselves. Higher degree statistics such as variances and extreme values are later derived. Global indices (heat content, dynamical height) and corresponding error bars are also computed. Sensitivity tests and careful examination of the analysis results have been performed to detect biases and inconsistencies. A strategy is proposed to reduce these errors and produce a coherent statistical representation of the first decade of the third millennium.
