A learner's perception of what a career in physics is like has a major impact on their decision to pursue physics professionally. This decision can also be influenced by a high school student's awareness of issues concerning diversity within the physics community. We surveyed current high school physics students and investigated their perception of physics careers and knowledge of diversity issues within the field. When we explored student responses, we found that students are generally unaware of the variety of careers available within physics. In addition, we see that many students are uninformed about issues regarding diversity within the physics community. Furthermore, we found physics teachers can have a noticeable impact on how students perceive these issues.

Recent surveys of Magnet facilities and nurses found low rates of implementation of evidence-based practice in U.S. health care settings. Nursing Experts: Translating the Evidence (NExT) is a collaboration of nurses and librarians providing free online evidence-based practice nursing education benefiting nurses in all settings. The NExT online modules empowered participants to efficiently access valuable resources to inform and improve their practice in a convenient, accessible, self-paced format. This article explores strategies for school counselors to use in intervening and managing adolescent students who engage in self-injurious behaviors. The school counselor's roles in intervention, referral, education, advocacy, and prevention are discussed, Implications and recommendations for school counselors are addressed.

The authors present (a) an overview of the recent literature on social advocacy, (b) results of a deconstructive analysis of the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of this movement, (c) a critical analysis of its role and function in the profession, and (d) a call to the profession. This study attempted to replicate the results of R. C. Schwartz, S. Petersen, and J. L. Skaggs (2001) by testing predictors of homicidality in a new sample of participants with schizophrenia. Results of multiple regression analyses showed that manic symptoms and substance abuse were significantly positively correlated with more extreme homicidality. Global Assessment of Functioning scale ratings were significantly negatively correlated with ratings on homicidality. Finally, men displayed significantly heightened homicidality as compared with women. These findings lend support to the hypothesis that clinicians should pay particular attention to evaluating homicidality in patients who are male, have schizophrenia, who abuse substances, who show acute manic symptoms, and whose global functioning has recently declined.

Evaluated the impact of self-disclosing and self-involving counselor responses. College students (N=80) evaluated audiotaped counselor-client interactions. Results showed no difference in positive versus negative disclosures.
