Industrial and institutional (I&I) cleaner manufacturers are beginning to pay more attention to environmental concerns after a slow start in this area. One of the most significant changes is greater use of aqueous-based products, instead of solvents. Also, a demand for milder cleaners has resulted in more use of amphoterics and betains. Henkel Corp developed a line of Glucopon surfactant concentrates that includes natural materials, such as glucose. They can be used for dishwashing, laundry and hand soap formulations. Several other I&I producers and products are discussed.
